Why do you think opposition politician protest in every country of the world?

While the article looks like PR for the government, I think the protests failed for the following reasons:

(1) Nigerians are still reeling from the outcome of the August protests where people's homes were bungled, personal properties were destroyed, including people's cars; destroying common public properties like street lights and public utilities; and people called for regime change and asked for Russian intervention. It must also be included, those who died and whose names have never been known or photographs released, with the protest leaders showing no regard for their families.

(2) Historically, successful protests were organic, not mechanical as the Nigerian #FearlessInOctober. You do not give dates for protests. You just hit the streets. The immediate cause of the Arab Spring was a Tunisian Mohamed Bouazizi setting himself on fire when the wares he sold to sustain himself were seized.

(3) General suspicion of one of the protest leaders, who is seen to using the protest to express his grievances for coming 9th in the 2023 elections with less than 15,000 votes, as the people of his own home state did not reckon with him.

(4) Protest fatigue. People are generally tired of hitting the streets as they have realized protests are easily hijacked and the motives of protest leaders are insincere. For example, some of the arrowheads of the #EndSARS protests suddenly transmuted to treasurers of politicial parties where they squandered donated funds without proper accounting; became emergency activists, living la vida loca, and so on. One of them who claimed to be a lawyer to the August protesters used it to promote his legal business and suddenly started representing some people eben though he lacked cognate legal experience. For example, he filed a bail application for one VDM, but got a lawyer from Falana and Falana Chambers to argue the bail application: why couldn't the pseudo-social crusader argue the bail application himself? Talk about contracr scam, where politicians collect contracts, collect their share without doing anything and give the contract to someone else to execute.

(5) Some of the arrowheads of the August protest stayed away from the October protests. They were probably shortchanged in the funds one of them received and realized they were being used to promote someone else's pecuniary interest.

(6) People are too weak, they are suffering too much to have the strength to join any protest.

I made several comments on the October protests as I envisaged the protests would flop:

October 1st, 2024

September 30th, 2024

No, it flopped because of one major reason, Nigerians are not united and when I mean united, I mean tribally and regionally united and thanks to Tinubu and some Yorubas for that especially in the south...

After the Yoruba Ro.u saga during the End SARS protest in 2020, I said no protest in Nigeria may ever work again...

They killed every form of southern unity with that slogan especially for protest...

How can you join someone to do protest and then turn around to start blaming the people who joined you?

Nigeria's unity is at its worst ever since Nigeria was formed, thanks to Tinubu, he got that one...

It flopped majorly because of apathy. People know protest won’t solve the structural problem.

Also, protest in Nigeria is never genuine, it is an avenue for some people to become rich, blackmail the government, get paid behind, and lead frustrated youths to the street without any plan.

Check the October protest demands, most of them are impossible to execute even in 3 years. How can you demand almost 50 things in a protest.

Are you saying Tinubu's 2012 Ojota protest was not genuine?

Chai!

We have limited police personnel! If for instance, 200 policemen is sent to Imo and 500 is sent to Zamfara State. Imo state will still be better secured than Zamfara! This is so because Imo will be having one Policeman manning each 28km while Zamfara is having 80km secured by each policeman!

And don't compare developed countries as we are not at their level yet!

So Alaska that is bigger than Nigeria has more police men than Nigeria abi?

Your analysis doesn't hold any water, as for developed, are you saying that Nigeria cannot be as developed as those countries ?

I've said it before and I will say it again. Even if Fuel hits N5000/litre or dollar reach N5000/$, I will never give up on this country. Sometimes things have to get worse before getting better due to the implementation of radical but much needed policies. We suffer now so our children can have a better future. Pushing the can down the road just to appease the populace hasn't worked and the buck stops here.

It's painful but fleeing abroad is never the solution. Everyone likes to complain of bad governance this, corruption that, but how many of you have tried to bring about positive changes in your daily lives to curtail corruption? I still see people skipping the lines at the bank after bribing the security guard or some bank worker so they can be seen before others. I still see people bribing airport staff just so they won't search their bags and things like that.

Most of these politicians were once ordinary citizens like you and I and they also decried bad governance and corruption only to continue in the same path when they got elected. This is the reason I don't have any party loyalty nor do I listen to wailing Nigerians because you are all the same like the elected officials. If we want to see this country turn around, we all need to play our part. Stop participating or promoting corruption at your current level in life, then encourage your family members and friends to do the same. Our problems will not magically disappear, it has to start at the grassroot where we all make an effort to change the culture of corruption so that with time, maybe all our collective efforts will yield positive results. Until then, we should not complain because 99% of you will be just as bad if elected today.

You guys and this your nonsense narrative, if everyone is to do what you are saying, why then do we have leaders?

What then is leadership for?

In the process of trying to defend rubbish, you guys forget the primary purpose of things....

In case you have forgotten, leaders are the ones who are supposed to teach the followers not the other way round...

When you elect the worst among you people what then do you expect them to teach the people? that's why Tinubu is behaving the way he is behaving...

Each time I read comments like yours it gives me more reason why the country should divide into different countries....

Out regional ideologies are not the same, I doubt you are from the south east...

Simeonee111:
States challenging this is a good course, for a nation like Nigeria, the fact that a body like ICPC of EFCC which are under control of the presidency and higher powers can investigate anyone they have interest in, is of great concern.
If you're not politically aligned, they can send them after you. Look at the likes of tinubu himself, akapbio, orji uzor kalu who were once efcc customers ruling us today. Decentralizing power is what's best for us

I will take it good when the law also includes all citizens of the states, I mean why would EFCC not be able to investigate the first citizen of a state(the governor) and all his cabinet but will enter the same state and harass citizens..

That will encourage mad corruption and more oppression on the the citizens, for me what will help is for the all the anti corruption agencies including the police to be moved under the judiciary and the judiciary should be completely independent from the executive, from appointments and salary to funding, they should be tied and managed by the NBA with electoral process for appointment of judges from the NBA which covers all practicing lawyers in Nigeria which will be done just like we have normal elections in Nigeria with jurisdictions but strictly for lawyers to vote only...

Because as long as most of these present politicians in power control these agencies, forget it.

You are politically sound cos I told a friend just some weeks ago regarding Edo election. If Wike and Fubara don't settle which I don't pray for and Wike relationship with Tinubu is still intact, then bye bye for second term for Fubara. Currently Wike still control the structure of the pdp in the state. Wike has started romancing with a formidable Ijaw politician, senator Magnus Abe, who is a staunch supporter of Tinubu and he was the campaign director in rivers before the Apc presidential primaries. He only decamped to Sdp when he fell out with Ameachi for last year governorship election but declare his supporters to vote Tinubu for president. Wike, Ameachi and Abe were good friends before they fallout. Ameachi choose Wike as chief of staff and Magnus Abe was SSG. When Ameachi nominate Wike as minister, Abe went to the Senate. Ameachi and Wike both betrayed Abe in different occasions to be governor. 2027 might just be his turn cos Wike has reconcile with him now. Emotional people will not agree with you but that is what it is. Tinubu is not Buhari cos he his a pure party man to the core. Wike has been appointing his strong political foot soldiers from rivers in Tinubu's government.

When I read comments like yours and that of the OP, it convinces me more that Nigeria should break up into different countries...

Politics / Re: Blame Gowon Not Aguiyi Ironsi For Nigeria's Loss Of Regional Autonomy –Dele Ogun by NairalandForumo: 8:10am On Oct 09
One major criteria to be a Tinubu supporter is to hate one certain tribe and that is what Reno is doing, his lies keep getting busted

The prolific author, however, express the belief that it is unwise for anyone to advocate for a return to the regional system of government, which he described as the "Berlin strategy," which allows one ethnic group to be joined to another whose culture and language they don't share.

He argued that to get it right, Nigerians must retrace their steps to the structures that existed before the artificial amalgamation of the various ethnic groups into Nigeria.

"The structure is natural because the territories are there, and everybody knows the area of their ethnic groups," he said. "We should allow self-governance on that basis rather than using the Berlin strategy to cut those ethnic groups and join one piece with another group somewhere else whose culture they don't share."

I've said it to those asking for regional government that it might not work, regional government is what led Nigeria to where it is today, Nigeria needs to break up because we don't share the same regional ideology especially on politics and leadership.

Chew and swallow the charcoal?

Yes, please ready my response to another question asked here by someone...

You're welcome but just make sure the charcoal is freshly made and should not be exposed to the air, it should be tightly covered, because charcoal by itself left open filters the air where ever it is kept, that's why if you leave charcoal open for some days it acquires dust on itself, that is the same thing it does in water and when you take it to fight poison in the stomach, it begins to clean the poisonous toxins in the stomach...

The reason why I don't advocate ordinary charcoal intake is because of the process most charcoal makers may have used to produce it and the way they may have exposed it to air before a customer buys it.

Unlike the activated charcoal that is produced under a more hygenic process and packaged in tight containers because it is produced mainly for health benefits, so I don't advice normal consumption of any charcoal.

But in extreme cases like this poisoning due to availablitity, Any charcoal at this point will he of help, it will not be OK that they are looking for activated charcoal when someone is dying, if there is ordinary charcoal they can start with that immediately, I've used ordinary charcoal different times for extreme stomach pain and it worked when there was no activated charcoal...

Like they say half bread is better than none...
