There was little drama on Tuesday inside an Osun State Magistrates’ Court sitting in Osogbo when an accused arraigned for assault, suddenly coughed while his charge was being read.

The development led to a little disruption of the proceedings, as three lawyers that sat in front of the accused hurriedly moved away their chairs.

The accused, Taofeek Ige, who was in the dock, had barely given his plea, when he suddenly let out a loud cough, forcing three lawyers, who were in court for a different matter, but sat directly in front of the dock, to quickly move away their chairs.

The incident caused disruption in the proceedings for a few minutes, even as Magistrate Olusegun Ayilara, told the accused that his cough would not stop the session.

Ige, was arraigned alongside Rasaq Sunday, Wasiu Adeyanju and Samson Ogunleye.
They were said to have on April 6, 2020, at Olugun Street, Osogbo, conspired to commit assault occasioning harm and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 516 of criminal code cap 34 Vol.Il laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.

The accused were said to have used broken bottles, scissors, cutlass to inflict injury on the left hand of one Lateef Kareem, thereby committing an offence contrary to and punishable under section 355 of criminal code Cap 34 Vol. I Laws Of Osun State Of Nigeria 2002.

Rasaq Olayiwola announced appearance for the prosecution.
The accused had no legal representation and pleaded not guilty to the two-count of assault pressed against them.
Magistrate Olusegun Ayilara admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N200, 000 with one surety each.

He then adjourned the matter to May 13 for mention.

The Nigeria Police Special Tactical Squad (STS) has smashed a two-man car stealing gang led by one Bashir Isiaku, aged 34, notorious for stealing cars from the car park of the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH).

A statement released by the Police force spokesperson, DCP Frank Mba today April 14th, said the arrest of Bashir, a graduate of one of the Federal Polytechnics, came after painstaking efforts and investigations by operatives of the STS to hunt down the criminals. Bashir and his accomplice and Aminu Yakubu specialized in using customized master key, crafted out of screwdriver to open and start vehicles. Police investigations show that their choice of cars to steal are the ones without special security features such as pedal or steering locks.

A total of twenty-one (21) vehicles have so far been recovered from the syndicate and their criminal receivers.

The following criminal receivers have also been arrested: in Funtua – Rilwanu Garba, Ibrahim Hassan, Kabiru Aliyu, Sikiru Danjuma, Bashir Abba; in Sokoto – Dodo Danbello, Mudeen Adelera, Nasiru Bello, Hassan Bawa; in Kucheri – Magazine Garba; in Tsafe – Yushehu Abdullahi; in Gusau – Abdurazaq Adekoya; and in Marafa – Kabiru Aliyu.



The recovered vehicles comprise 2 Opel Vectra, 1 Toyota Camry, 1 Honda CRV, 2 Toyota Carinae, 7 Golf-3, 1 Toyota Corolla, 6 Honda Civic and 1 Toyota Avensis. The suspects claimed that they found it easy to steal in JUTH due to the lax security at JUTH premises. Police investigations reveal that their choice cars are Toyota products, Honda products, and Volkswagen especially the Golf brand because these brand of cars are in high demand by criminal receivers, either in whole or in parts across the country and other neighboring countries.

In the light of the above, members of the public whose cars were stolen between January 2019 and March 2020, within the premises of Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) are advised to come forward for possible identification and recovery. Nigerians are equally enjoined to take extra measures to secure their cars by utilizing special security features such as steering or pedal locks, tracking systems, etc. In the same vein, institutions and organizations are encouraged to enhance security and access control within their premises to minimize the possibility of theft and other mischief by criminals.

In a related development, a 28 year old female armourer, Fatima Garba has been arrested alongside her gang of kidnappers and armed robbers, notorious for attacking Nigerians around Sokoto, Kebbi, Kaduna and Niger States.


Mba in his statement said Fatima was responsible for ensuring the safety of the weapons used by the gang whenever not in use.

''Fatima, who confessed of being the gang’s armourer for over a year, claimed to receive a handsome reward each time the weapons were returned to her after each operation. She acknowledged knowing that the arms which she usually kept in a neatly dug hole in her compound were used for robberies, kidnapping and other criminal purposes. Investigations show that Fatima, who is a trader and single mother of two was recruited by her boyfriend Abubakar Usman. Other members of the gang include: Samaila Usman ‘m’ aged 28, Mohammed Ibrahim ‘m’ aged 30, Mohammed Agali ‘m’ aged 22, Dahiru Bello ‘m’ aged 33, Shamsu Mohammed ‘m’ aged 30, Mohammed Usman ‘m’ aged 37, Umar Abdullahi ‘m’ 33, Buhari Abubakar ‘m’ aged 33 and Abubakar Garba ‘m’ aged 37. Since they began operations, the gang is estimated to have made over twelve million naira from their various criminal escapades.''his statement read

Items recovered from the gang are:
– 5 AK47 rifles
– 1 G3 rifle
– 1 Berretta pistol
– 1476 rounds of ammunition
– 36 rounds of G3 ammunition
– 6 AK47 magazines
– 1 operational vehicle
– 8 mobile phones
– Box containing operational tools

Mba said all the suspects will be charged to court at the conclusion of investigations.

A 41-year-old woman stripped naked and jumped on top of a police car following a court appearance for flouting Spain’s coronavirus lockdown.

The woman was first arrested after neighbours alerted police to a woman streaking during the daily round of applause for emergency workers in the Costa del Sol resort of Torremolinos.

She was filmed resisting arrest with her clothes on at first, but stripped off as she got to court.

The Federal Competition & Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) is to prosecute four supermarkets and their proprietors in Abuja for alleged arbitrary hike of prices of sanitizers, hand-wash liquids, disinfectants and other anti-bacterial hygiene products.
Court documents obtained by PREMIUM TIMES on Friday named the four supermarkets, which also include their pharmacies as Prince Ebeano Supermarket Limited and its proprietor, David Ojei, and Bakan Gizo Pharmacy & Stores Nigeria Limited, and the representatives, Ray Opia and Luter Irene.

The others are H-Medix Pharmacy & Stores Limited, and the representatives, Sandra Ejekwu and John Oluwagbemiga, as well as Faxx Stores & Trading Limited and the representative, Adogah Ahmed.

The charges against them were for violating Section 125 (1) (a) of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act, 2018 and punishable under Section 155 of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act, 2018.

The charges included allegations of “false, misleading, deceptive representation in relation to the price of sanitizers, hand-wash liquids and disinfectants of various existing brands on display at their retail outlets.”
The other charges included exploiting the national public health emergency of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic to engage in price gouging of hand sanitizers and surgical disposable face masks of various existing brands and thereby engaged in the use of undue influence, pressure, unfair tactics and other obnoxious practices in connection with the supply of goods.

Also, they were charged for conspiracy to unreasonably enhance the price of sanitizers, hand-wash liquids and disinfectants, and make false, incorrect and deceptive representations to consumers in relation to the price of at which hand sanitizers and surgical disposable face masks may be sold or supplied.

A 20-year-old boy, Isaac Boniface, has confessed to the rape of the 4-year-old daughter of his co-tenant in Jos, Plateau State.

The suspect admitted that he knew the incident was a devilish act, but that “It was a mistake.”

According to him: “I live in the same compound with the girl and her mother. Anytime I’m going to work or passing by, the girl will greet me and I will greet her back because we are friends.

So, one day, I took her to a corner in the compound and raped her. The mother later told me to follow her to somewhere and that is how I was arrested by the police.”

The State Commissioner of Police, Mr Issac Akinmoyede, condemned the act and said Isaac would be charged to court soon.

Nigerians on social media woke up to the disturbing news that the first case of the coronavirus has been recorded in the country, several weeks after other countries have had cases of the virus.

Shortly after the news was made public by the Ministry of Health, a Nigerian man on social media identified as Olugbega Bodunrin(@boldjohnson07) has come out to make claims that he was the cab driver that conveyed the Italian who was infected with the virus.

The individual had responded to a post shared by on the official Twitter page of The Guardian, which made it known that the Nigerian government has started working to identify everyone that came in contact with the Italian citizen.

Reacting to the post, Bodunrin claimed that he had contact with the Italian on Wednesday, February 26.

According to him, during the course of the journey, they talked and laughed together, and even went the extra mile of dining together.
