The attack occurred at Ipele in the Owo Local Government Area of the state when the convoy of the governorship candidate of the PDP, Eyitayo Jegede, visited the area.

St least three supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ondo State were wounded on Tuesday during an attack on the party's campaign team.

The attack occurred at Ipele in the Owo Local Government Area of the state when the convoy of the governorship candidate of the PDP, Eyitayo Jegede, visited the area.

Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, who is seeking re-election under the All Progressives Congress platform, is from Owo LGA.

The attack comes a few days after the police threatened to jail anyone caught causing trouble in the state ahead of the election.

Jegede's convoy was attacked a few weeks at Oba Akoko during a campaign tour.

Confirming the attack, Samuel Fasua, spokesman for Eyitayo Jegede Campaign Organisation, said the armed thugs blocked the entry points of the community and started attacking some of the campaign vehicles in Jegede's convoy.

He explained that three members of the party identified as Mr Amuda Sikiru, Mr Taye Akintufede, and Seun Ogunlade were brutally injured during the attack by the armed thugs.

He said, "These members were shot in the face and abdomen during our campaign rally in Owo town by the APC thugs but we have rushed them to the hospital.

"Our campaign vehicles were damaged, as was witnessed in the Oba-Akoko community recently and one of them was completely burnt down.

"The armed thugs were later dispersed by a joint team of the security agencies.”

Tee-Leo Ikoro, spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, who also confirmed the attack, said the incident was currently being investigated.

He disclosed that some persons linked to the attack had also been arrested by the police.

Nigerian man held as collateral and tortured by dreaded Pakistani gang thanks Nigerians for coming to his aid.

The Nigerian man who was filmed being tortured by a dreaded Pakistani gang after he was used as collateral has been identified as Ekenedirichukwu Innocent Chima.

A video of him has been released to assure Nigerians of his safety after a group of wealthy Igbo men came to his rescue and contacted the gang leader, Nuruz, to let him know that they will pay to secure Chima's release. They also assured Chima that they will not abandon him in Pakistan.

Apparently, their video was shown to Chima and he also recorded a video of his own to thank the Igbo men working to save him.
He said he saw the video and thanked them for their kindness. He also thanked Nigerians and assured everyone that he's still alive.

Recall that Chima was used as collateral by a man named Andrew. However, Andrew absconded afterwards and the Pakistani gang tortured Chima and threatened to kill him on July 10 if Andrew doesn't return with their money.

The Osun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, has launched an investigation into allegations of husband bashing by an Ikirun based housewife.

The peak of the battery against the husband by the wife was the attempt to pull of his scrotum, the NSCDC said in a statement on Tuesday.

The NSCDC spokesperson in the state, Daniel Adigun, said that the accused, Mrs. Omolara Seriki, a resident of Ikirun, headquarters of the Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state, had reported her husband, Raheem, to the command for running from his responsibilities.

The statement, however, deposed that Adigun in his explanation accused his wife of physical abuse which had led to injuries on his body.

The statement read in part, “The couple had been married for six years and had two children. Raheem complained that he had never enjoyed the marriage due to incessant fight between him and his wife. He said the situation made him to abandon their house in Ikirun and ran to Iragbiji.

“Raheem said a few days after leaving home around 10 p.m., a lady brought food to him and could not leave immediately because it was raining and while waiting for the rain to subside, he heard a knock and he opened the door.

“When he opened the door, the person knocking turned out to be his wife. Immediately his wife saw another woman in his room, she started making trouble.

“Raheem said his wife grabbed his scrotum and attempted to pull it off. In the process, the husband said he fainted and only regained consciousness at the hospital, where his damaged scrotum was treated.

The wife has, however, regretted her actions and pleaded for mercy.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has arrested a man accused of raping a three-month-old baby in Adogi Village in Nasarawa State.

He was arrested on Tuesday, the NSCDC announced via its Twitter handle.

The para-military security outfit said its operatives arrested the man after thorough investigations.

"After a thorough intelligence gathering and investigation, the Nasarawa State Command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps arrested a man Tuesday accused of raping a three-month-old baby in Adogi Village of Nasarawa State," the security outfit tweeted.

The incident happened on May 27 when the mother woke up at night and discovered that her baby and mobile phone were missing.

“The incident occurred on Wednesday 27 of last month when suddenly I woke up around 3am and found that my baby was missing. I checked my phone which was also close to me before I slept, but it was also missing,” the mother narrated.

She explained that both men and women of the village went out in search of the baby on foot and motorcycles, and eventually found the child in an uncompleted building bleeding.

“She was found lying in the building with her pants kept aside. Everywhere across her private part was blood and then we rushed her to the hospital," she said.

The baby received surgical treatment at Jos University Teaching Hospital as a result of the incident.

MILAN (AFP) - Ex-Formula One driver Alex Zanardi, who had both legs amputated in a motor racing accident almost 20 years ago before going on to become a Paralympic champion, was in an "extremely serious condition" in hospital on Friday (June 19) after crashing into a truck while competing in a handbike race in Italy.

Zanardi was participating in one of the stages of the 'Obiettivo tricolore' relay race in Tuscany when he lost control of his bike on a hairpin bend and crossed into the path of an oncoming truck near Montalcino.

The 53-year-old was airlifted to hospital in nearby Siena where he underwent emergency surgery for serious head and facial injuries before being transferred to intensive care.

"Due to the serious head injury, the neurosurgery and maxillofacial intervention began shortly after 7 pm and ended shortly before 10 pm," the hospital said in a statement.

"The patient was then transferred to intensive care. His condition is very serious."

Mario Valentini, coach of the Italian Paracycling national team, told Corriere Della Sera newspaper: "Alex lost control of the handbike, rolled over twice and collided with a trailer truck. The collision was terrible."


Italy's Zanardi was a former Grand Prix driver who twice won the CART championship in the United States before having both his legs amputated following an accident on the Lausitzring track in Germany in 2001.

He went on to win four gold medals on his handbike in the 2012 and 2016 Paralympic Games, and two silver medals, and ten world championship titles.

"I am so anxious and frightened about Alex Zanardi that I'm holding my breath. I am his fan. I am his friend," tweeted former world Formula One champion Mario Andretti.

"Please do what I'm doing and pray pray for this wonderful man."

Zanardi's life changed forever on Sept 15, 2001 when he crashed at 320kmh at Lausitzring while taking part in a CART race.

But what could have been the end of the sports career for the former Lotus and Williams Formula One driver from Bologna proved to be the start of another.

Zanardi adapted to his prosthetic legs and was back competing in the final race of the European Touring Car Championship at Monza in 2003 driving for BMW.

"Although the situation was really bad at the time, I set myself the goal of leading a normal life again at some time in the future," Zanardi said at the time.

"Today, I can walk, I swim, I go skiing."

In addition to his Paralympic medals, Zanardi also competed in the gruelling Ironman triathlon in Hawaii in October 2014.

He had been due to compete in the Paralympics in Tokyo this summer before they were cancelled until next year.

His most recent feat was last September when he achieved a new Paralympic triathlon world record time at the Ironman of Cervia, Italy of 8 hours, 25 minutes and 30 seconds.

It was a record which he achieved a few days after the conquest of two gold and a silver medal at the world championships in London.

"Alex is one of life's truly inspirational people and as we all know, a fighter through and through. Stay strong and Forza Alex," his former Williams team wrote on Twitter.

"Alex has already had his share of bad luck, which he transcended with a mighty determination and spirit to win again," said former F1 driver Martin Brundle.

"Let's hope he's fine and this is nowhere near as serious as it sounds from reports."

Zanardi raced for Jordan, Minardi and Lotus in Formula 1 in the early 1990s before switching to the CART championship in the United States where he was series champion in 1997 and 1998.

He returned to F1 with Williams in 1999 before heading back to the CART series.

Zanardi's passion remained motor racing and he had just announced he would drive a specially-adapted BMW in the final endurance round of this year's Italian GT Championship at Monza in November.

"I can't wait to get back in a car," he said.

The Inspector-General of Police Monitoring Unit in Lagos State has released Instagram celebrity and Executive Director, Cubana Group, Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest.

Okechukwu, known for his lavish lifestyle, was invited for alleged misuse of police escorts and weapons as well as unexplained wealth.

On January 6, 2020, he posted a video of himself throwing freshly minted bundles of naira notes to a huge crowd, a crime that attracts a sentence of six months or a fine of N50,000 or both.

His arrest came a month after another Instagram celebrity and Chairman, Five Star Group, Emeka Okonkwo aka E-Money, was detained for similarly misusing police escort.
