Mind you Lagos will also join soon..

WRONG!

The term 'Niger Delta' refers to a geographical area which has nothing to do with oil or politics. Other examples include Nile Delta, Volga Delta, Danube....etc.

The fact that some people misuse the term to describe what you posted does not make it universally acceptable.

Whether you agree or not...Religion is one of the most powerful tools used in keeping the poor in order.

Yes, all independent thinking fellows know that.

Your previous post inferred that it is the only tool not just one of the available tools.

Bro, you are not alone at all.
I cant believe i understood every single thing you said. [s]Problem with people like you is that if we emerge in a large number, the world will be cold bloody. I remember a thread by hardmirror which said that we should leave religion to stay cos religion is among a host of other things preventing your poor neighbor from attacking a rich man in the same street. [/s]
[s]You cant easily control a society of free thinkers, infact a society of absolute free thinkers cannot survive itself.[/s]
.
We still live to survive, no matter how man redefines ideas about resources. Most people in position of some high level of control of humans usually understand that there are absolute psychological traits in man and they often exploit them.

I totally disagree with these comments.

There's no evidence that a society of the non-religious is more barbaric/violent (or otherwise) than any one composed essentially of religious folks (eg. Scandinavian countries are not religious and yet peaceful and sane).

While not everyone may be urbane in any type of society, humans are social animals and the need to tolerate others for the sake of survival is sheer instinct.

Stop being foolish and start reasoning normal. You people like attacking every bible discussions like mad dog. No sane reasoning. All your intention is to make mockery of the bible without reasoning in balance with its submissions.

LMAO. So many insults in nearly all your posts.

Both of you (honourhim & MizJanet) appear to have a few things in common (one always casting aspersions on the other's viewpoints) except that you are both at opposing extremities of this philosophical debate.

I know something that can effectively resolve this impasse ... Two revolvers, one bullet each.... A duel. wink

By the way, you still haven't given any reason why you cherry-picked the (body) parts of your GOD (not capitalised for emphasis) and the functions of those parts. Since the GOD you described is anthropomorphic, it's goes without saying that the tongue you spoke about should be complete in all its functions i.e. speaking...making th sounds wink, tasting spiritual food, protecting the spiritual windpipe from spiritual food particles, etc.

No offense intended, I just don't understand your argument.

This is what happens when English comprehension is poor, science is abused and thinking is in parallel lines.
Please, understand the context of a statement. The bible is not a novel, however even novels are read with context.

English Example:
My heart melted when I heard the story. Did the heart actually melt to liquid?

Friendly advice and tips:
- To understand English comprehension & context, I recommend a book "Brighter Grammer".
- Read that scripture in clearer bible English version. KJV does do justice to modern English.

Cheers

Bravo! Bravo!

A very typical response from your kind; resorting to insults when common sense is against you.

You didn't have to go through all that trouble to explain that "melt" was used figuratively. ...which again, is typical of your kind... whatever doesn't make sense must have a figurative meaning.

Cheers!

What is funny here, have you not seen mountains melt by volcanic activity? Have you not heard of Supernova the death of a star?

I have seen mountains grow not melt away ... due to volcanic activities (besides I don't see what volcanoes have in common with melting stars).

Only super massive stars end in supernovae. Supernovae are not melting stars. In Physics (as well as English), melting refers to phase transformation from solid to liquid. Stars are gaint bodies of hot ionized gases called plasma. Gases (Plasma) don't melt.

am not a scientist. I read Einstein equation of general relativity which include space and time .Einstein did not say anything about space having more than 3 dimension, he only say space has 3 dimension and Time interwoven the 3 dimension. It was when he expended it and he added a matter that an ordinary eye can not see.

Concerning string theory, as long as it has not be proven, no need to bring it up.

I thought you said you are open to learning.

Do your research properly, if you will. Perhaps you'll get a better grasp of what your interwoven space - time fabric is. I doubt how much you know of the theories you quote, like you said "you are not a scientist"; but I am.

No need for replies, you'll get no more from me.

I know of 3 dimensions of time and space. If you have any idea pleased shere, I am ready to learn.

Oh yes, I'd gladly share... in as simple terms as I can conjure.

It's good to know you have an idea of what the space - time fabric is. However, space - time in the simplest form is not 3 - dimensional, it's 4 (the three traditional planes x, y, z & time). Phenomena such as quantum entanglement can only be understood when time is seen at par with the other dimensions. This may appear counter intuitive, but experiments after experiments have proven this to be correct.

As a matter of fact, the String Theory which was developed in the 1990s predict even more dimensions (which are so far yet to be experimentally proven). The LHC experiments which were started again yesterday deep under the France/Swiss border are part of efforts to understand more of this subject.

When I peer through my telescope at Night, am much so stunned by how tiny we are even in the observable universe. The stuffs out there are not limited to three dimensions. (By the way I'm one of those very few Nigerians who care enough about understanding the universe to invest personal $$$ in telescopes).

I hope my post makes *some sense to you.

Of the three monotheistic religions, only
one teaches that the One God is revealed in Three Persons: Christianity. The other two agree that God is One and is revealed as One Person.
However, as I contemplate the universe,
is it possible that the Creator put His
fingerprints on the universe so we can
know what kind of God He is? The answer is yes. The universe, though it is one, is also three-dimensional.

@bold.

Wrong!

There are more than three dimensions in the observable universe.

Please show me a scripture that says only bodies have those parts; or that souls and spirits don't have hands and eyes and tongues like our bodies.

Is God not a spirit? Does God not have eyes and hands, and mouth? Are angels not spirits? Do angels not have eyes, hands, mouth etc?

Please show me a scripture that portends that only our bodies have those parts and not our spirits and souls. Then you would have made sense. For now I've not seen any bomb.

lol.

@bold. According to your assertions, it would be safe to assume that these angels (& possibly God too) have body parts ....like... hmmm...hmmmm. undecided

I suggest you remove "etc" from your post, cos you are triggering some funny imaginations. Let's limit the body parts to hands, mouths, legs and... I guess they have heads too. wink

That's the best expression I could come up with to explain the point I wanted to make.

But you can help me. How would you define the resurrection body of Christ? An immortal body of flesh and bones quickened with the life of the Spirit, not with blood.

Physical body? Or spiritual body? Or spiritual physical body? grin

I wish I could help you explain the inexplicable. .... but you see, this is what happens when you try to make sense of what does not make sense.

I was just thinking to myself. Every story has two sides, right ? We've heard God's side from the bible. But how many of you have actually tried to find out what happened according to the devil ? I mean, it's really not fair to the Devil if we just condemn him based on only Gods testimony. Afterall, if i am in a fight with someone and a mediator comes to settle the case, i'd alway want to put myself in the right.

.

A sheer waste of time.

Of God or the Devil...their existence or nonexistence is irrelevant.

It is impossible to prove that what does not exist does not exist. That's just the way things are.

I'd rather spend my time on more productive matters.

Learn to study the bible and not just read it.

If you had studied that passage you would have discovered that the greek word translated "hell" there is the word "gehenna" which is the place of final damnation that unbelievers will go to after resurrection. It is different from hades. People enter gehenna with their souls and bodies after resurrection.

Two greek words are translated hell in the new testament: Hades and Gehenna

Hades: The place where the souls of unbelievers go to after they die. Only souls go to hades. The body is buried in the grave (mnemeion) while the soul goes to hell (hades)

Gehenna: This is the place of torment and final destruction; it is also the place called the "Lake of fire". Nobody is in gehenna yet. Sinners will go to gehenna after the final resurrection. And they will enter with their soul and bodies.

God bless.

You are apparently unaware of the original meanings of the words you defined.

Do your research properly.

Albert Einstein one of the most famous Physician who has used more of his mind than any other man was not an Atheist.

Though he might not have been an atheist, he certainly was not a theist.

Einstein said, "I believe in Spinoza's God, who reveals himself in the orderly harmony of what exists, not in a God who concerns himself with the fates and actions of human beings."

He also said, "It was, of course, a lie what you read about my religious convictions, a lie which is being systematically repeated. I do not believe in a personal God and I have never denied this but have expressed it clearly. If something is in me which can be called religious then it is the unbounded admiration for the structure of the world so far as our science can reveal it."

Interesting it was to read through these well informed and highly educated arguments coming from fellow Nigerians. I'm impressed.

Here's a little contribution from me:
As a deist of a sort, i've always considered myself "the man on the fence". I find it completely unnecessary to take sides on matters of religion. I do not believe in a personal god who concerns himself in the affairs of men. I'm also not of the opinion that there must be a reason for everything. Nonetheless, I find it hard to criticize those who believe in such a god because I have come to the understanding that it is 'human' to have delusions, religious delusions being just one of the many kinds.

Regards to all the brilliant fellows who have contributed to this thread.
