Chapter 8

Just as she was shouting at me,Jared returned. His girlfriend spotted him and kept quiet immediately.
Can someone tell me what is going on here?he asked.
He looked from his girlfriend to me searching for answers.
After a hard look directed at his girlfriend, I turned around and said "maybe you should ask your girlfriend. She was the one shouting, not me.
He turned to his girlfriend

Baby,what's the matter?
Maybe you should ask this b*tch,she said.
The word b*tch sent me over the edge.
You were the one being b*tchy,not me,I shouted in anger.
I have said it before and I will repeat it again.
Nothing is going on between your boyfriend and I.we are just project partners.You really need to get that into that thick skull of yours.
Jared's eyes widened in surprise.

Of course, I answered.

A hint of disappointment flashed in his eyes.I ignored the look and stormed out from their table.
I noticed that all eyes were on me.everyone has stopped eating and was staring at me.
I rolled my eyes and kept walking.I spotted my boss immediately and stopped in my tracks.
Do you mind telling me what happened over there just now?
I'm so sorry sir,I pleaded.
please don't bring your personal vendetta to my restaurant again.
I don't want to lose my customers.
Yes sir,I said.
I went back to work immediately and ignored Jared and his girlfriend the entire time.
I went back to my dorm and reminisced the event that occurred in the restaurant.
I was so pissed.
My roommate came in as I was about to fix my bath.
How did it go today babe?I asked.
Blissful, she answered.
Mind telling me what made it blissful, I asked,while eyeing her suspiciously.
She curled her lips in a smile.
Desmond took me out today.
We ate at MacGregor's.

We woke up around 10am in the morning.

Later in the afternoon, we went out for lunch.
we ordered fried rice and chicken and sat down to eat.
Just as were eating,a couple of guys entered the restaurant and sat beside us.
They were deep in conversation as they were eating. I spared a glance at their table and spotted one of them watching me with interest.
That hot guy is checking you out,you know? Liz whispered in my ears.
I bet my left a*s he will request your number,she said.
Then I will have to turn him down,I said.
Oh babe,come on,he is attractive and seems like a nice guy.
Not interested, I said.
Just as we finished our meal and stood up to leave, they stood up immediately and started heading to our table.

My roommate flipped her hair and put on her seductive smile.

The three of them reached our table and one of them asked.

You are sick!! I spat.
Aren't you ashamed of yourself?
i really pity your girlfriend.
He just stared at me and burst out laughing which pissed me off more.

I stood up to go.
Let's meet tomorrow,I said.
I don't really wish to continue right now.
I left immediately without glancing backwards.
I was still fuming when I entered my apartment.
The guts of that idiot!!! I muttered.

Hi baby,my roommate called as she came out from the bathroom.
she looked at my face and said

Did you quarrel with anyone?
I told her what transpired between Jared and I and she burst out laughing.

What's so funny? I asked.

I read the text and smiled inwardly.

Liz and I watched hunger games American movie after showering and eating dinner.

The following day,I went out in search of job after lectures.

I was able to get a job in one of the restaurants down our street.The wages they promised was not that attractive but I planned to manage it. At least its better than nothing.
Your shift starts by 5.00pm,the manager told me.
Nice,I answered.
At least I will have time for school,I thought.

The following day I met up with Jared for our project.
We only had one week more to defend it.

we have only few days to our defense, I said.
I really wish it won't end, he said smiling.
Something I couldn't decipher crossed his face.
I can't wait for it to end,I said.
Really? he asked.
You want to get rid of me that fast?

He sighed and said, You really hate me that much?
I don't hate people, I answered.

You treated me badly in the past and it still gets me angry.

He looked at me,a look of regret on his face.

I didn't interfere because it would have made my mom hate you more.
The truth is that I was afraid of my mom as a kid and I'm still afraid of her now,a little maybe.

He brought out 2 fresh meatpies from his bag and offered one to me.

Take it,he insisted.
I took the meat pie and ate.

After eating he brought out two orange juices and gave me one.

I collected it and offered my thanks.
After eating,he came close to me and I stiffened.
What? I asked, sounding breathless.

He removed a drop of meatpie from my lips and I trembled when his thumb brushed over my lips.
He put the meatpie inside his mouth and licked his finger.
I gaped at him.

its all gone now,he said looking back at me.

Thanks,I said. My voice barely audible.
Finish up your drink, he told me.
Yeah,I said.

I checked the time and discovered it was few minutes to five.
I need to go,I told Jared.
So soon? he asked.
I am working part time and my shift starts by 5pm.

where do you work,he asked?
MacDonalds,down the street, I answered.
Okay,see you tomorrow, he said.

My shift ends by 9pm in the night.

I served food and drinks.
The Job was not very easy because of the influx of many customers but I did my best.
Go and serve the people over there,my boss said pointing at one direction.
I went down to the table and my eyes met with Jared's. His girlfriend was by his side.Her hands were on his laps and she was leaning on him.
Talk about being clingy,I thought

is he a regular customer here or did he come because I told him I work here?.

He continued staring at me and his girlfriend stared between the two of us.
I was pretty sure he recognized me as the girl she met coming out of Jared's apartment.

she touched his face and asked...
Baby,what are we going to order?

The girl is really territorial, I thought.
Doesn't joke with what belongs to her.

uhmm....I don't really know.
what do you guys have? he asked me.
I told him and he ordered 2 plates of fried rice and chicken and soft drinks.
I left to get their food.

when I came back with their order,I saw his girlfriend scowling at me.

what now? I thought.
The girl is really a b*tch.
Jared left to go to the restroom and the girl said to me.

You are really trying too hard,aren't you?

CHAPTER 6

I hurried up the stairs to my apartment because I didn't want any unnecessary drama or conflict

I just stood in my apartment and eavesdropped on their argument.

oh,is this how it's going to be? His girlfriend roared.

Baby,calm down,let me explain,Jared said.

So you have been cheating on me all this while?

For goodness sake,hear me out,Jared shouted.

I trusted you,she cried.

oh my God,this is serious ,I thought.
I felt so guilty even though I didn't do anything wrong.
I shouldn't have agreed to visit his apartment,I thought.
I closed my eyes and prayed they resolve their conflict.
I really dislike relationships because it is full of hurdles.
I have never been in love with anyone, maybe except my late parents.
secretly, I want to know what it feels like to be in love with someone and share your innermost secrets with them but I know I'm not cut out for that sh*t.
After some minutes,their argument died down.
Thank goodness, I muttered.
I made a plate of spaghetti and sauce.
The delicious smell of the food wafted up from the kitchen making my mouth water.
I took a shower and changed into my pajamas.
I later sat down and ate.
After eating,I lay down on my mattress but sleep couldn't come. I stayed awake staring at the ceiling.
My roommate told me she would spend the night at a friend"s place. I felt lonely staying alone.

The following day,I woke up on time and fixed breakfast,bread and bacon eggs.
I planned to go grocery-shopping after school and go job-hunting afterwards because I was running out of cash.
We had our first lecture by 9am in the morning.
Jared came late to lecture and sat at my back.
He touched me with the tip of his pen.

What? I asked.
Let's meet after lecture, he said

I met him when the lecture was over.

what?,I asked.
Come to my apartment by 4pm for the project, he said.

Dude,seriously? I said
You must be kidding me.
you really think I will be coming to your apartment after what transpired between you and your girlfriend.

Its my business, I knew the misunderstanding was because of me.

Meet me by 4pm at the school library, I said and left.

He stood there and stared at me as if I was crazy.

immediately after lectures, I went to a grocery store and bought the groceries I needed.

I went back to my apartment,showered and prepared for my meeting with Jared.
I wore a loose top and a jean trouser,applied a little makeup and left my apartment.

when I reached the library, I called Jared.

Hello, I said

Hurry,I have been waiting, he said

I looked at my wrist watch and discovered I was 10 minutes late.

Sorry for keeping you waiting i said when I spotted him.
Apology accepted, he said.

He stared at me,his gaze intense.
what? I asked, my breath coming out too fast.
Nothing,he said.
please, let's start.We don't have all day.I said.
we researched for some hours and took some minutes to rest.
I found Jared watching me,his gaze on my mouth.
I really think you should stop staring at me,I said,a hint of anger in my voice.
it makes me uncomfortable.

Do you want to know what I was thinking?

no no no,I thought.

He leaned in and whispered in my ears.

CHAPTER 5

The following day we visited the library and borrowed some books related to the topic we were given.
Jared collected My phone number and said he would call me back in the evening. I anticipated his call the whole time.
in the evening, he called and told me to come down to his apartment.
His apartment is on the first floor while mine is on the second floor.
I knocked on his door and he opened it after some seconds.He wore a singlet and boxers.

what the hell? I said.
please go and get dressed.

Whoa!!,easy girl,I'm not even naked,he replied.
He opened his door and I went inside his apartment.
Wow! I whispered immediately I went inside his apartment.
He left me and went inside to change.
His apartment was the same size as mine but very well furnished.
I sat on the sofa and looked around admiring the whole place.
Two pictures hung on the wall. I stared at the pictures and they were pictures of Jared.
One was his childhood picture. He was very handsome as a child.He was about two years when the pic was taken.
The other was a recent pic.He was very attractive in the pic.His hair was long and brushed downwards and his physique was the same as now.His muscles was visible through the polo he wore.He looked delicious. Just like he does now.
The picture was taken not long ago.
He came out from his room after a short time.
He changed into a trouser but still had the singlet on.

Much better,I said.

He met my gaze and chuckled.
He sat next to me on the sofa and I let out a small breath.
His proximity made me nervous.
I caught a hint of his Cologne and my stomach tingled.
He smelt so good.

So where do we start? he asked
I brought out the research books we borrowed from the library and flipped through the pages looking for the topic we were supposed to write on.

immediately, his phone rang

Hi baby,he said
How are you doing?
I am expecting you in the evening.
Okay,I'm waiting.

He blew a kiss on the phone as a sign of affection and I rolled my eyes.
I guessed his girlfriend called.
He dropped the phone and looked back at me

Why did you choose psychology? he asked

I am glad you ended up attending uni, he said.
I kept quiet and didn't reply.
I didn't really blame him.He never knew I would end up doing something useful with my life.
I left their house empty-handed with no hope of making it
I later picked up courage and worked my butt off to get where I was.
I did so many menial jobs in order to put food on the table for years

we did research the whole time and wrote down some points.

I later stood up and stretched my body because I was tired from the prolonged sitting.
Jared sat there and stared at me

He smirked.
I saw you the other day jogging, he said.
I guess you work out a lot.

I scowled at him and asked, "Does your girlfriend know you check out other Ladies figure.

I stood up to go and he checked the time.
Wow!he said,I can't believe we have researched for four hours.

See you tomorrow, I said and left his apartment closing the door behind me.
i ran into his Girlfriend on the stairs.
She stopped and stared at me with her eyes wide open.
I knew she saw me come out from her boyfriend's apartment
I wanted to explain but she ignored me and took the stairs three at a time,anger evident on her face.

We jogged a short distance from our lodge.

As we were returning,my eyes went up our apartment and I saw someone staring at me on the first floor. I squinted and figured it was Jared.

Why is he staring at me?

He knew the moment I spotted him and continued staring.

so that means he lives here?

Talk about coincidence.

The same course and the same dorm.

is he stalking me?

My friend followed the direction of my eye and asked me who i was staring at.

Jared,i answered.

OMG,he is looking right here,she said

we were tired by the time we finished our exercise.

I really needed that exercise to blow off some steam.

I hated the fact that Jared lives in the same place as me.

Sweat trickled down my face and body.

I immediately went inside the bathroom and took a cold shower,washed my hair with shampoo,combed it until it was smooth.

I went down to reading.I brought out my books and started studying,going through the week's notes.

I really want to do well in this semester. I plan to graduate with a nice grade and I'm never backing down

Determination is the key to success... I'm really determined to succeed.

I took a short break between studying and made a bowl of pancakes.

Music blasted from a speaker somewhere and I was pretty sure it was Jared because the sound came from the direction of his apartment.

I wondered whether he ever studied.

People like Jared see uni as a place to go through just to obtain a piece of paper.

But for people like me,the piece of paper is my whole life.

His dad is very rich and owns a large company.

He may take over his dad's company one day.

I really wondered how his b*tch of a mother was doing.

The woman treated me like garbage.

Anyway,I've been free from them a long time.

No one treats me like dirt now,not that I would ever allow it.

I'm not that little kid anymore.

Lectures resumed the following week.

More Lecturers came in and introduced their course titles.

I saw Jared with his girlfriend.

I won't lie,the girl is a looker.

He likes pretty girls.

I wonder whether she will ever last.

He had his hand on her waist.

He caught me staring and continued walking with his girl.

The next lecturer gave us a group assignment to be submitted in two weeks and Lo and behold, I was paired with Jared.

Could my life get any harder?

After the lecture, the two of us met at the back of the class.

I am looking forward to work with you,he said.

it would be better if we overlook everything and work on this project.

I don't intend spoiling anything, I need those marks as much as you do.
