porthouse7: South east never host anything in Nigeria, not even any age grade national team, not even national sport festival, all they do is to escape to other regions
So what happened at Imo 1998?
Besides, Enugu is hosting the next edition of the games.

And Governor Dapo Abiodun received the torch yesterday in Abeokuta.
Prince Dr. Dapo Abiodun, CON @DapoAbiodunCON
Today, we had the honour of receiving the Torch of Unity in Ogun State in anticipation of the 22nd National Sports Festival, Gateway Games 2024.
We received the Torch from Dorcas Adesokan, a celebrated athlete and double gold medalist at the 2014 African Youth Games, at the City Gate along the Abeokuta–Siun–Sagamu Expressway.
This Torch, which has journeyed across Nigeria since it was handed over by President @officialABAT to the President of the National Sports Commission, represents more than the start of a sports competition. It reflects our collective national aspirations as a country strengthened by diversity, united in purpose, and committed to empowering its youth.
For us in Ogun State, the Torch of Unity embodies the mission of the Gateway Games: a celebration of our sporting heritage, peaceful coexistence, and the resilient Nigerian spirit. It is a call to uphold values of friendship, collaboration, and mutual respect — the very ideals that inspired the establishment of the National Sports Festival in 1973.
By receiving this Torch today, we reinforce our unwavering dedication to national unity, youth development, and cultural pride. Hosting this festival for the second time, we are ready to showcase Ogun’s warmth, vibrant traditions, and the exceptional talents of athletes from across Nigeria.
As the games begin this Friday, we hope this Torch continues to inspire love, pride, and unity among our young people and the entire nation.

🔹 Experience the electric energy of Nigeria’s finest competitors.
🔹 Celebrate the unbreakable spirit of our nation.
This is your moment, Nigeria!
Will you stand on the sidelines, or will you BE THERE WHEN GREATNESS UNFOLDS?
They put a quota so that you'll be represented, yet you refuse to join (you say they are begging you), yet you say that you are not represented at the highest levels.
Make it make sense.
(Besides, that claim that we have not had up to 5 Igbos in senior military positions in all the services since 1970 is false).
tishbite41: Hypocritical take on the issue at hand Talking about representation How many Igbos have been COAS, CAS and CNS since 1970? Not up to five in the three arms of service. Just a state in the North - Niger State - can boast a record better than that. Let the discussion start from there.
Isn't that why the military and state governments are trying to convince Igbos to join the military??
Do you think you can have representation in high places if Igbos don't join the military??
Originalsly: Hmmm ... imagine Jesus at the opening of Fun City. I know some people can explain. Hypocrites everywhere. A gold course in fun City? ...who plays golf? .. isn't it the rich? ...why not football fields for the masses? ... Fun City for whom? Poster should revisit in three years and let's see how much fun this place has to offer. I can guarantee the golf course will be a nature reserve ...home to snakes and whatever else.
Delighted to host His Eminence Peter Cardinal Okpaleke, His Grace Archbishop Valerian Okeke, and my Lordships Bishop Paulinus Ezeokafor, Bishop Isiuzo, and Bishop Jonas Benson at the recently commissioned Solution Fun City and Government House Mini-city!
Accompanied by the National Chairman of our great party — APGA — we had an exciting tour, after which they blessed the facilities and shared inspiring insights. A wonderful moment of faith and progress.
naptu2: I have created many posts about this issue on this thread, so I am not going to give more explanations.
Some people claim that certain states are being favoured in military recruitment, but that's not true. Rather, Nigeria (like many other countries) has put in place measures to ensure that we have a truly national armed forces. Like I told you before, in the US you must be nominated by a senator before you can attend any of their military academies and senators fight to ensure that their states are properly represented.
In Nigeria, each state has a quota, in order to ensure that all states are properly represented and each state fights to ensure that its citizens are well represented in the Armed Forces. I have previously given you examples of Lagos State's efforts.
It was noticed that Enugu State was not able to fill its quota, so the Enugu State Government invited senior military officers and had a campaign to encourage its citizens to join the military.
naptu2: Here's an example of what I wrote about some years ago. Some people love to project this view that recruitment into the Armed Forces is skewed to favour the North. The fact of the matter, as I wrote back then, is that all states have an equal quota for recruitment into the Armed Forces and its up to the state governments to encourage their citizens to fill up their quota.
The only time that there was briefly an uneven quota was in the First Republic and that was done in order to correct an imbalance. At that time there were more Northerners in the Other Ranks cadre than people from other regions and more Easterners in the Officer cadre than people from other regions and the quota was used to equalise things.
Click on this link below and you'll see the Lagos State Government's efforts to ensure that citizens of Lagos fill up its quota
As I said back then, this quota system is implemented in the United States by ensuring that nobody can be admitted into the United States military academies unless they have a nomination from their senator or from the Vice President of the US (this means that senators fight to ensure that their constituencies are equally represented).
