Fulaman198: Good morning/afternoon dear, Yes Those who can not speak their language but have never been to Western countries are still Westernized, you don't have to be living in the West to be Westernized. Being Westernized is a learned behaviour. People get it from listening to Western music and allowing their own music to sound Western (like a lot of Nigerian music today).

Good day dear...lol actually "Westernized" is a big word because some people can know their cultue but their parents have never talked to them in their native language but meanwhile they share African values ( respect, education ...) I thnik every single family has its background and past so that it's quite difficult to judge. Plus, it depends on the relation you have with your country if you've never been there ....I've jeard a lot of brothers talking about "westernized people" without knowing that from the moment you're listening to "Western countries" music you might be labelled as one ( westernized).

I said that those who don't know their language are Westernized, those who try to be everything that embodies the western world are Westernized. Being an African means you don't try to act like a European/American/Westerner. Which means you don't go trying to be of another culture when you are African. When you speak French, do you try to say everything with an accent of the particular French region you are in (yes there are many French accents, but do you speak with a French accent of the region you live in).

No offense was taken, but you know you are Westernized if you are. Those who don't want to have anything to do with their culture are definitely Westernized.

Good morning...my point is that I think no one can mesure how "African" someone could be or not, and I think it's quite ( and I'm non offense because I do know the most important things about my culture) dangerous to want to labelled people as "westerner" because of some subjective criterias. I repeat dear, being African is not only knowing how to speak your language, not only wear African clothes: how about those who don't know how to cook ( and they are more than you think..) while they've never been to "Western countries" or do not speak their language in Africa, are they also "Westernized" ?

I think every parent wants to be sure that their children are being safe in their future step family and that's normal, but love needs to be in teh center not money. Of course, it will be difficult to leave your child with a "homeless" but selling him either

I disagree...I mean how people could measure or judge who's more "African" than the others? I think this is a bit arrogant, non offese. I was born and live in France but I understand my language, I do know my culture and how to cook Cameroonian dishes, but when I go to visit my family t will be different, because they see you as different that's simple. Even though you're proud of your roots you can't be like your relatives out there but it doesn't mean you're westernize! come on! please don't think that being African is living in this part of the World ( Africa) while some of them who sometimes have money don't know how to cook or fix their clothers because they have housemaid! So please balance your statement brother, don't jump on conclusions so fast

Perfect post!! As a non- Nigerian I think this enlightens a lot of things even though I know that not all Northern part is Muslim or Hausa. But this is not so different from my country, actually in Cameroon for Southerners the Northern part is Muslim while the region of Ngaoundéré in the Adamaoua region ( yes Cameroon has also Adamaoua region and Cross river) are full of christians about 50%, and they (Southerners) used to talk about Hausa to define the North while Hausas are just located in Maroua( Northern region) and the rest is populated by Fulanis, Mbororos, Kanuris, Arab Shoa, Tupurris and so on on the Extreme North Region.
