VillageBoi: Exactly! And that is one reason why I think ncap & Co shouldn't make the film 'yet'. They should wait to develop more skills or get a fully skilled crew. It seems like a rush, rush film that, as Originalsy pointed out, will be so pirated if it goes straight to DVD. Yes u are right, just trying to get the zoom h4n since I record and mix audio and I have also done musical video back in 2006 so synchronizing the sound with the video won`t ba a problem.

VillageBoi: Ah, the dreaded no pre-prod. Good filmmaking IS hard work. Honestly if you guys are not quite 'ready' you really shouldn't do it. It will be so much more pain than gain.
Why don't you convince him to do a few shorts first, get used to the equipment, make mistakes on shorts - use it as a learning curve. Making mistakes on a feature is very costly and not worth it.

Do u have this sound effect called designer sound fx from Andrew Cramer of video copilot? don`t know where I kept mine or probably I have formatted the disk I copied it on.

VillageBoi: Can't you just capture sound to the mixer on SD cards or something and then don't bother tethering yourself to the camera? And later just sync in post.

That will be hell of work and nobody is paying me for all this, this is the reason why we end up messing the all thing, I tried to make my friend understand that i`m not ready yet to dive into movie production but he would`nt listen and now he has organised the cast crew so I don`t want to let him down, he is not even bothered about quality but for me I cherished quality that is why i`m going extra miles and i`m base in Gombe for now where there is no professionalism when it comes to movie production.

VillageBoi: Does the Behringer take a battery? I know it's 48V Phanthom power. And what mixer are you guys using?

EDIT - The mixer has to supply the power to the mic. Did they give you cables to connect the mixer to the 7D? Let's know how the testing goes.

I owned the mic and mixer for my musical studio production so it has phanthom power, I will capture the sound to the mixer and mixer to the camera and transfer it to pc for edit, export it and check it out if the sound is ok before going to the field.

Doing some research now, oh boy e no easy oh, all I hear with D7 is using a boom mic with zoom h4 and recording on a different device

@Villageboi I will let you know the outcome later today as I will be collecting the camera by 6pm today and I will run a test using Behringer B2 MIC and a mixer connecting back to the canoe d7 if the option is there to know how the sound would be.

As said earlier on. You cannot get good quality sound by connecting a mic directly to a DSLR because these cameras have extremely bad pre-amps built in. What you really want is 'dual-system' sound. Capture the sound with pro mics onto a device such as a Zoom H4n or similar.

The best thing would be you guys get a pro sound guy with his own kit.

You may connect something like a 'Rode Video mic' directly to the Canon 7D but the audio captured in-camera is only good for use as a 'guide track' to sync up the pro audio recorded on set.

VillageBoi: The fact that you guys are going out there to shoot something is good. Double check & triple check EVERYTHING! As long as you guys have done some serious work on the pre-prod you should have half a chance of things going well on the shoot. Be prepared for anything. Did you say it's a 'short' or 'feature'?

Feature, we will be shooting with CANNOE 7D for high resolution and picture quality, just finished negotiation with the owner of the camera who does'nt even know how to operate it, please kindly help me on how to connect external mic on the cannoe d7 as i'm not with it now cos I want a cristal clear sound and I will also do more research on it later when i'm using PC

VillageBoi: Really glad to hear you guys are out there making things. I know, it's not easy without good funds because the truth be told - creativity will only let us get so far - unfortunately money does the rest.

You are completely right on the name of the film - 'Project' is so much easier to say and even 'think' of than 'Dina Hypothesis'. If those were two actual films showing in a cinema and people without knowing what they want to watch saw those names - the majority, with no other info to go on, would most probably pick 'Project'.

VillageBoi: I apologise for sounding off. As Eno siad you have a good idea with the 'bringing the family back to life', however that is a 'different' film. No single film can be everything or cover everything - it's just the way films are.

The truth is, you, like a lot of other posters here, do have pretty good ideas. And we can't wait for people like you to do things. I'm sure a lot of the posters on this thread CAN write a good script - they will all be different stories - and the good thing about that is - the more the merrier.

I'm glad to hear you are shooting on Thursday. Is it your first film? Is it a short or feature? I also see more and more people starting out making shorts, as cheaper equipment such as DSLRs becomes accesible, and that is very good for our industry. It enables people to experiment and learn things without too much of an upfront cost.

Yes, it is my first movie with no previous experience, just trying to help a friend out who wants to make movie by all means with out finance , hahahahahahahah.... He is the writer of the script and has even done one before with good story line that could get international recognition from W.H.O and UNICEF but b,cos no resources and he decided to do it and they messed up the all thing that the movie is not in the market, the title of the movie is CHILD'S ADVOCATE so any interested movie maker with resouces can indicate so that I can drop the script.
Back to the one i'm shooting come this thursday the title the script writer title it is DINA HYPOTHESIS b,cos it has to do with a final year student in university writing her project and she made new discovery but i'm telling him to change the movie title to the PROJECT as this title would be more familiar to people and easy to pronounce so as to make it a household name. So house drop ur comment as I will always welcome both. Thanks all.

Enoquin: Yes dear, you are sprinkling too much salt into sholay's pot of soup...apart from some misspelt words which has nothing to do with being a writer...you are not trying to leave that dead zone that is saturated because almost all film-makers tap and tap from it.
The only promise I saw in your story was when funmi's children and husband came back to life...this could be turned to a good fantasy storyline but not with paranoia as the main theme...the thompson's character would have to be different and the build-up would have to be longer not short as sholay's own...that tiny scene of yours can create a whole new plot...no idea is totally useless but let's try to shift from the norm...take care

As soon as I got to 'Cursed by a wicked Witch' near the very start of your post I kinda knew it would go completely off the rails... and it did.

I believe Sholay wrote something that does pretty well as a 'psychological short'. Turning it into a wicked witch/babalawo film and sprinkling it with a healthy dose of 'All-I-wanted-was-her-money-first' just turns it into a poor Alaba-Market copy of something.

Understandably there is not a single film in the world that can please everyone and everyone will always have an idea on 'how to make it better'. If we actually could make everything better then there wouldn't be a single crappy film coming out of Nigeria... sadly that is not the case.

@ ncpat. Does anything 'have to' happen next in the script? Probably not. The audience can use their imagination to make their own conclusions instead of being spoon-fed the conclusion IMO that makes it a much more mature film. There is a reason for the saying 'Too many cooks spoil the broth'.

Thomson will fell in love with Funmi in order to inherit Funmi`s Wealth but little did he know that Funmi was telling him the truth that the dolls were her children and the Dog the husband but they were cursed by a wicked Witch and only a true love from another man who is unaware of the Spell can break the Spell. Thomson at a point is no longer about the wealth but have genuine feelings for Funmi and he confesses to Funmi and letting Funmi know he loves her the way she is along with her dolls as children.

Thomson: My love, you know I love you.

Funmi: Of course I know.

Thomson: (cuts in) I mean I love you from the bottom of my heart, the way you are and your children I want to be their father.

Funmi: (In tears of joy looking straight into Thomson eyes robbing his chin with her tender fingers) I love you too but you can`t be their father.

Thomson: (Thomson immediately and gently carry up the dolls)I love your children too(Looking straight into their eyes and he called them by their names)Tade, Titi I love you both and I want to be your Father(embracing them to his chest with a warm welcome and pulls them from his chest looking straight into their eyes and he kiss the dolls and there you have it just like the Cinderella story winds and lightening blazing everywhere and behold the two dolls turns into a human form a boy and a girl )

incometrader: Till date, so many billion-dollar and multi-million dollar internet companies have been built. The likes of Facebook, Twitter, Google, Amazon, Ebay will easily come to our mind.

I read an article on Forbes and it says the best way to create a consumer internet company worth over a billion-dollars is to build a digital transaction business - a company that connects buyers and sellers so they can more efficiently transact. This is true in the US where everyone uses the internet and even little children have tablets (with internet o), but might not be same for Nigeria. In Nigeria, companies like Jumia, IrokoTV, etc have shown that it is possible to build an internet company worth plenty millions of dollars even within 1 year of inception.

Now to the question: As webmasters, what, do you think, is the best way to build a multi-million dollar internet company in Nigeria?

I think you miss the all issues here, Jumia can never be a multi- million dollar site cos what they do is to use the Internet to reach their customer and deliver their goods to them, the difference between Jumia and the rest of site u mentioned above is that Jumia buys and sale using the Internet as their shop so Jumia has to account for cost of goods sold and expenses before arriving at profit. Site like Facebook,twitter,google,yahoo don't do buying and selling like Jumia this people gave us freedom to use their service to communicate one another freely and if you want to be faster in letting people know about you and your service you now pay for their per click service so such Internet sites need good thinking faculty people to work with them, now you see that even if some body wants a million facebook like all you need is to pay the money and facebook will help you spread the news and you get to know who actually like your page or product and I think that is what facebook uses to outsmart google and the rest cos others are invisible, eBay and amazon creates an environment where people sale their goods through site and they charge commission and take the resposibility of shipping it. What I think Jumia should do now is to get all Nigerian invole in the online marketing place since it is getting recognition,it should start playing a role of third party or middle Man where I can post a goods on their site along with my details and if a buyer is interested he pays for the goods to the middle man (Jumna) and in turn confirm the payment to me until I delivered the goods to the buyer and the buyer confirmed to Jumia before I can receive my money and Jumia being the third party will cut her commission. The multi-million site I'm seeing in Nigeria is NAIRALAND but seun need to work with people with creativity,nairaland started with google Adsense but today he is doing the advert directly with the people which is a good move now what seun need to do now is to develope a platform where people can create their add he charges per click like N5 per/click so that any body around the world can take part and not this one that he is banning people that help in contributing to the growth of this site just because you put a link to your site, do you see the Nigeria syndrome? If Facebook where to be banning people, do you think they will be making as much?

The Head of the Household of God Church and former presidential candidate, Chris Okotie, was so uncomfortable with journalists reporting his involvement in a suit that he asked the judge to chase journalists away from the court room.
The reverend stated this to a Lagos Magistrate Court Judge on Wednesday during a trial between him and a former member of his church.
Mr. Okotie is accusing Dafiaghor Okiotor, 40, a former keyboardist in the church, of blackmail and intimidation and trying to extort N39 million from him.
Mr. Okiotor, however, stated that the flamboyant head of the church owed him after he played the keyboard and produced music for the church for 14 years.

The accused had consistently debunked claims that he was a volunteer at the church, adding that he had a “private arrangement” with Mr. Okotie.

Okotie seeks journalists exit
As the trial continued on Wednesday, Mr. Okotie asked the magistrate to tell the reporters to “excuse’ them from the court.
“Your Honour, there are journalists in the court recording the proceedings. We would be obliged if they can be excused from the court,” said Kola Dopamu, who was holding brief for Mr. Okotie at the trial.

Robert Igbinedion, Mr. Okiotor’s counsel, demanded to know the reasons for asking the journalists to leave.

“What issue does it go to? You cannot eat your cake and have it. You were the ones who brought us to court. The court is a public place and setting where everybody, lawyers, journalists and even passersby come to unhindered as long as they don’t disrupt the proceedings,” Mr. Igbinedion said.
Oshodi Makanjuola, the magistrate, ignored the defence lawyer and told the journalists to “leave her court.”

“I know your people (journalists) are always around the court premises but why are you in this particular court proceeding?” Mrs. Makanjuola asked the journalists. “What is so special about this case that you want to cover the case? Please leave the court room.”
The magistrate also shouted at Mr. Igbinedion, who tried to oppose the order.
“Excuse me, I will not allow you to talk. I do not want journalists in my court. This is my court and I run it the way I so please. Who are you that journalists should be coming to cover your case? What nonsense!”

A shouting match
As the court orderly came forward to march the journalists out of the room, a shouting match ensued between the magistrate and the defence lawyer.
Court transcripts seen by PREMIUM TIMES detailed the heated verbal exchanges between the magistrate and the lawyer.
“Your Honour, you have no right to issue that order. The constitution is very clear about the freedom of the press and public hearing. By your action you have just trampled on the fundamental right of my client to a fair hearing,” Mr. Igbinedion said.
The magistrate fired back: “How dare you talk to me in that manner? So, it’s the journalists that would now ensure that his rights are protected?”
Mr. Igbinedion continued, “Your Honour, I’m sorry but you do not have the power to do that. You sit there operating with the powers that was given you by the constitution but you are trampling on the same constitution. Your action, if you insist, will rob I and my client of every confidence that we can get justice in this court. If you insist the journalists, who are the Fourth Estate of the realm, leave then I will have no choice but to leave also. You may as well pass your judgment without trial.”
As other lawyers in the court, visibly taken aback, tried to douse the tension in the room, a furious Mrs. Makanjuola insisted that the journalists would leave.
“How dare you talk to me like that? This is my court. Are you going to tell me how to run my court? Journalists please leave my court now,” Mrs. Makanjuola said.
At this point, the defence lawyer threatened to walk out with his client.
“Your Honour, my client is no longer assured of fair hearing. We do not have confidence in the court anymore. The court has ceased to be a public place. A place where everybody should have access especially members of the Fourth Estate of the realm,” said Mr. Igbinedion.

I can use my power anyhow
The argument and counter argument dragged on, the magistrate insisting that no law states that journalists must cover the proceedings of the court; the lawyer arguing that it was their fundamental right.
“I have the power to use my discretion to allow the journalists or not to allow the journalists. You have no right to tell me that journalists must be in my court,” the magistrate said.
Mr. Igbinedion started to flip the pages of the Nigerian Constitution, searching for the section that deals with the Freedom of the Press.
“Sorry, Your Honour, but your discretion cannot supersede the laws of the country… My client is facing a criminal charge brought against him by Mr. Chris Okotie who we all know is a billionaire. The constitution says that no part of the hearing can be conducted in secret. It must be open. If you will trample the constitution then we will lose confidence in the court.”
Mrs. Makanjuola asked the lawyer his reason for ‘bringing’ journalists to cover the court’s proceedings.
“Journalists often come to cover cases in court but why should they come for your matter? Who are you? I’m just wondering why you decided to bring a special journalist. What is so special about you and your case that journalists should come?” Mrs. Makanjuola asked.
Mr. Igbinedion responded that the matter is an oppression of the poor by the rich.

Okotie oppressed my client
“The constitution is here to protect everyone from oppression. Mr. Chris Okotie accused the defendant publicly. Now he wants the defendant to be tried secretly. My client has been maligned in the newspapers with headlines like: ‘Pianist assaults Reverend Chris Okotie;’ ‘Pianists attacks Chris Okotie while preaching;’ ‘Pianist disrupts Reverend Chris Okotie’s service;’ ‘Pianist threaten Reverend Chris Okotie.
“Google any of these headlines, you will find my client named as the anarchist. My client was in jail when these publications came out. My learned prosecutor granted an interview stating these to the press. Consequently, my client is finding it difficult to get jobs because no one is ready to give any job to a man who has been publicly portrayed to have assaulted his boss.
“When they were making all these allegations, the press was good and okay. Now we say give your evidence publicly, they now have a problem with the same press being around. We say no to that kind of oppression,” said Mr. Igbinedion.
The magistrate eventually asked the journalists to return, stating that she did not “have a personal interest in the matter.”
“So it’s the journalists that will ensure a fair hearing? Ok, call the journalists to come in since that is the way you think your client can have a fair hearing,” Mrs. Makanjuola said. “Let it not be [said] that I have any special interest in this matter,” she added.
Addressing the journalists, the magistrate urged them to be objective in their reporting of proceedings.
“I read Mass Communications before going to study Law. I hope you understand what I mean about being objective?” she said.


Big kudos to the defence lawyer for standing up to the judge. The "do you know who I am?" mentality is the very bane of our society. No one is above the law!
