Wow! Kabiyesi waja.

Ibadan's age-long non-acrimonous method of choosing successive Olubadan will always turn up an aged Oba because candidates spend so long on the queue before it gets to the eventual Oba's turn.

With the passing of Kabiyesi, it should be 80-year old Pa Rasheed Ladoja who's likely next in line to the Olubadan's stool. They almost messed up Kabiyesi's political position with fake news during the 2023 Presidential election. Probably Kabiyesi was already dealing with age-related slowdowns.

May God console his immediate family,
Ibadan, Oyo state and Nigeria as a whole. Nigeria lost a great Nigerian and First Class Royal Father.

I wonder who asked you all these?

It was God that saved Anambra from the diabolical machinations of ebonyi people.

I am just wondering the essence of spending a lot of money to bury people who are dead. Sometimes, the way the so-called clergy behaves, you begin to wonder if they actually have the spirit of God in them.

These are the same people that usually give crazy terms and conditions to deceased families before they can participate in funeral rites. Throwing a big party for dead people don't send them to heaven. The last time I checked: the Catholics believe in praying for the dead so that God can accept their souls, not throwing a big party to impress people.

If you don't know the tradition of people or part of such settings just keep quiet. Anambra State has her own tradition of burial rites and acknowledged by all without complaints. So Soludo should face Governance and allow the state do their thing.

After all the money is not his and moreover demand u are talking is alien to them.

The dead must be accorded full respect.

GerogeI:

Am from Anambra State. What exactly do you call a stool. Stool translates to Okwa, which simply means having a role, not kingship. There was nothing like Igwe any where, except for Onitsha people who claim to come from Benin with their Obi. Go and ask your elders for the truth. There were titled men, but they were not kings. Within the Ozo, NZe or Someother Stock grouping, there was the highest titled Man who led procedures and rituals, as well as decision making. Some time two or three man were equally titled and they countered each other. But there was no king.

Where the British won such men, they gave them armed police and called them warrant Chiefs. Where such leaders opposed the British, which was the case in most communities, they looked for the most Dubious Character in the community and gave him armed police and named him warrant chief to oppose the real community leadership. This is captured well in the story of things fall apart by Chinue Acheba.

Igbos are republican, every man had his say, even though all men were not equal. No man was appointed a king by the people. Rather you level of title determined your political role, stool or Okwa. Power was shared, not a monarchy.

Long story without knowing the history of towns and communities equals someone reading epistles in Google's. Whereas I specifically named a town in Anambra, all you have to do is to go and verify his accurately not kind of reciting things fall apart for me here which is what most of you guys who have no deep knowledge of various town historical lines do. It's a pity.

You should have realised you have no validation even most of these histories have been discussed here and laid to rest years ago.

You can as well use nairaland as your research tool. Thank you.

Soludo, Archbishop Okeke in war of words over flamboyant burial of priest’s mother
soludo

ONITSHA—The Catholic Archbishop of Onitsha Archdiocese and Metropolitan of Onitsha Ecclesiastical Province, His Grace, Most Rev. Valerian Okeke, and Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State were locked in a war of words yesterday over the governor’s threat to impose a fine on the Obimma family for celebrating funeral ceremonies of Ezinne Grace Obimma in a flamboyant manner.

Recall that there is an existing law against lavish burial ceremonies in Anambra State, enacted during Willie Obiano’s administration.

Soludo had at the requiem mass for Ezinne Grace Obimma, mother of the spiritual director of Holy Ghost Adoration Ministry, Uke, in Ndemili South LGA, Rev Fr Emmanuel Obimma, blamed the family, particularly Charles Obimma, who was a member of the legislature that passed the state burial law in 2019, for an over-shooting limit of burial expenses prescribed by the law.

The governor said the insignificant, low-key burial of his late father, Pa Simeon Soludo, was child’s play compared to that of the late Madam Obinna, who died at 88.

Countering the governor, flayed him for stepping into an area he had no jurisdiction, asking him to respect the boundaries or principles of separation of jurisdiction.

The cleric said: “In separation of power, you don’t make laws for the church on how to bury the dead because it’s bound to fail.

“It’s not the duty of the governor to make law on how Christian burials should be done because there are more serious things the government should do. Any law that is impossible to keep or enforce should be considered unjust.”

According to him, the church can only make laws where it has exclusive ecclesiastical powers and not for the government because they remain two separate jurisdictions.

He pointed out that the church made suggestions on how to cut expenses during burial but noted that the choice of celebrants to decide whether to spend hugely or meagrely depended on them.

Earlier, at the mass, the presiding cleric and chancellor of Onitsha Archdiocese, Rev Fr. Dr. Prudentius, Aroh, and Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the last general elections, Peter Obi, said the late Madam Obimma lived a life worthy of emulation.

In his words of appreciation, Rev Fr. Obimma, who is the founder of Holy Ghost Adoration Ministry Uke, said his mother, whose life was deeply rooted in Christ, died on All Saints Day (1st November), noting that heaven had gained a saint.

Rev. Fr. Obimma, the Parish Priest of Blessed Iwene Tansi Catholic Church in Umudioka, Dunukofia Local Council Area, hinted that Madam Obimma lived a life dedicated to the service of God and humanity.

GerogeI:
I agree with Obi of Onitsha.

But more importantly,
There is no thing traditional about igwe's and obi's in Igboland of which Anambra is part of.

They were started by British invaders as a means to subdue the people, Igbo had no chiefs, talk less of warrant Chiefs, nor Kings.

Nze and Ozo were socio political Societies, with Pyramid structures that allowed several people to provide leadership based on their level of title in the society. It is similar to a parliamentary government, with no Prime minister, only the leadership of the House. There morality and court were provided by Nri theocracy through the transfer of Ofo!

Soudo- can we stop deceiving ourselves. Do away with all the Igwes and Obi and replace them with the people's congress (which we have as town unions already) led by three elected persons forming a trinity to be known as Mayor or some igbo name 'Izu'. Trinity so they countercheck each other. Pass a law that establishes them as an extension of the state Government, but synchronize with Local government ment laws by electing them as councillors. This will make for faster more people oriented development, and also force the judicious use of local Goverment funds as they can be shared for community administration by the state Government irrespective of who answers local Government Chairman. You make the non performing Local Govt. Chairmen redundant.

Please Anambra is not in the league of your community that is headless.

Traditional institution existed in Anambra communities before the arrival of the Whiteman.

Nnewi alone has a long standing stool even before British set foot in Nigeria and it has been like that till this day

He has left Governance and be pursuing traditional rulers who has done nothing wrong up and down.. Professor Mgbaafor.

If he is not suspending one traditional ruler today, he is suspending another tomorrow or he will suspend even two weeks ahead of time even before the traditional understand what his offence is.

He has littered Facebook with little boys and girls singing praises of him not performing in the state.

Stop Dehumanising Traditional Rulers, Obi of Onitsha Fires Back at Soludo

The Anambra state Traditional rulers council has officially responded to the Anambra state government, on the recent suspension of HRH Igwe Damian O. Ezeani. In a press release made available through the Chairman of the council of traditional rulers in the state, His Royal Majesty Igwe Nnaemeka A. Achebe CFR, mni, the council in a 14 point letter bemoaned the dimension that was taken by the state government in the suspension of Igwe Damian O Ezeani.

He said he was suspect that the suspension letter was an after thought as it was already trending on social media for over 24 hours prior to their receipt of the letter. "I was embarrassingly inundated with phone calls and messages from traditional rulers and other persons seeking clarification from.me as Chairman of ASTRC regarding a situation to which I was not privy. Your letter to Igwe Damian O Ezeani was copied to the Commissioner of Police, and Director DSS, Anambra state, bit not to the chairman of the ASTRC."

The revered traditional ruler however stated that the action of the state government has indeed shown, amongst many others acts, how traditional rulers of Anambra state are being treated and the measure of the worth the traditional institution has with the present state government.

Continuing, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe said that it's unfortunate that the state government can apply this code of conduct without the involvement or reference to ASTRC, a body that worked so hard to ensure that the law stands following the 2013 annual seminar of Anambra state traditional rulers where it was presented and adopted.

He retraced how he had on 04 October 2023 communicated the governor on the subsisting code of conduct which served previous administration and the need for it's review to have adequate efficacy. He however stressed that since then he has not received any feedback from the Commissioner or Mr Governor, and as such he assumed that the same order with the previous administrations would continue to prevail.

Igwe Achebe said it was out of place, for the commissioner to have discussed with him on 7th of January 2024 on the code of conduct for traditional rulers who conferred honorary chieftancy titles in violation of the code, as he said that the Commissioner specifically mentioned Igwe Ojoto, who conferred an honorary chieftancy title on Senator Ifeanyi Ubah on 30th December, 2023 and the self acclaimed traditional ruler of Nawfia, who also conferred honorary chieftancy titles on 40 persons on the January 4th 2033. Igwe Achebe said that" in the conversation, you categorically, did not mention, in any regard whatsoever, Igwe Menu who celebrated his ofala on the 29th of December 2023."

He stressed that," Nevertheless, it's is very manifestly presented that no written directives from your ministry on conferment of Chieftaincy titles existed before 08 January 2024 when Igwe Neni was suspended He further stressed that the referenced letter to a second term Right Honorable Distinguished Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as "one Senator Ifeanyi Ubah is most disrespectful, offensive, and unbecoming of one holding a political office as a Commissioner the traditional ruler thundered in his release.

He further stressed that it unfortunate that the commissioner used such words on the Senator as its noteworthy that a person can only qualify to contest elections after scaling through the highest level of security checks at the Federal level. He however stressed that Senator Ubah can't be wished away as he hold a Chieftaincy title of his hometown, Nnewi, conferred on him by his monarch and Grand Patron of the Anambra state traditional Institution, Igwe K.O.N Orizu. Besides, he is also a well known business investor in Anambra and a generous Philanthropist to say the least.

He therefore maintained that the issue of code of conduct on Igwe Neni and the conferment of Chieftaincy title to Senator Ubah suggests that there may be other issues with either the Igwe or Senator Ubah, as is being stealthy ventilated in this present circumstance.

He however conculded that the way the state government has handled the matter of the honorary chieftancy titles is the apogee of the progressive dehumanization and dismantling of the traditional institution of Anambra by the present administration.
