In October 2018, Nigeria’s Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo (SAN) launched the 50% reduction in the cost of Corporate Affairs Commission of Nigeria’s registration fee under the Business Incentive Strategy (BIS) initiative aimed at enabling MSMEs to formalise their businesses. The reduced cost offer ran from 1st October to 31st December 2018.

Seeing the massive response of Nigerians to this offer, the CAC deemed it wise to extend the offer further to 31st March 2019. People who took this offer were able to register their businesses at 50% off the normal registration fee.

The Vice President again graciously gave the directive for another extension which runs from 13th May through 13th August 2019. This is to enable small business owners who missed out during the first extension to do so now.

A friend of mine had a tough time registering his business so I decided to give this help to others who may have similar difficulty.

Performance window.

Thanks for your response. Please I still need to know when you were inducted and when you submitted your business plan. I was inducted on 20th May 2017 and submitted my business plan under the performance window on 15th April, 2018. To date GEM hasn't communicated with me. Just wanted to know if we're in the same performance window.

Hope this mail meets you well.

 

We have receive communications from some of you that you were unable to meet the deadline and that application portal has closed. Really sorry to learn this because of the time and energy you have put into this already.

 

In line with this, I have placed a call to GEM office this morning letting them know that none of you received direct email communication from GEM about the deadline and that the side information you got about the deadline was too short. The response I got was that it has been closed and it is quite unlikely that it will be reopened but however, it will be escalated to the right authority since you did not receive email from GEM of the programme coordinators.

Thank you for your email and we truly appreciate the frankness.

 

While we acknowledge the fact  that the program experienced delays in implementation, kindly note that most of them were beyond the PIU's control hence the slow down in implementation activities.

 

If you have been following the news on the Project you would recall that we tried everything possible to secure extension of the Project for another 1 year. However, the power to make such decisions does not lie with the PIU,

 

Following the final approval of March 29, 2019 as the new closing date, the Project had to adjust its activities to meet the deadline hence the cancellation of some activities of which Fast Track 3 was one of them.

 

As earlier noted, we truly understand and regret your frustrations but unfortunately, there is not much we can do within our powers. Nevertheless, should there be any development in this regard, be rest assured we will get in touch with you.

then I ask this question those people that is submitting business plan now what is gem going to do with it?

This is so painful. I don't even know which batch I belong to.

What you don't understand is that those submitting business plan now have applied since mid 2016. Most of their colleagues on fast track have long collected both their first & second tranche.

We also applied in 2016. Got inducted in May 2017 and we were invited to submit business plans by April 2018. And since then no word from them. So we're also pretty much 2016 applicants!

I don't know. They haven't communicated with me since I submitted my business plan in April last year.

And what baffles me is that they are asking some other people to submit applications while at the same time they told someone in fast track 3 window who obliviously applied since last year that "the Project will not be able to carry out that intervention as the allocated time is very short to complete the entire process."

Dear MSMEs,

 

Based on the information reaching us, application for grants will be ending by Midnight of Wednesday, 20th of February.

As such we advise that you quickly apply for your grants before the deadline.

 

Every MSME has crossed the matching grant level with only a few qualified to apply performance grant.

 

For those whose scores on the dashboard are below 100, you are qualified for matching grant application and those who have reached 100, you are qualified for the performance grant application.

 

Wherever your score is, please make sure to apply before the deadline.

This is very confusing. They've told someone who applied in 2018 that there's not enough time to process his application and they're still asking people to submit application latest today! Which kain confusion be this now?

We investigated your complaint and found out that you are under the Fast track 3 window. Given the closure date of March 29, 2019, the Project will not be able to carry out that intervention as the allocated time is very short to complete the entire process.
However, we will let you know if we have any update in that regard..

These people are not serious. So they were waiting for you to complain before they tell you what they are up to? Well I am waiting for my own email too. I wrote them last week. I also submitted my own business plan in April 2018. We're probably in the same batch.

I don't think he was. I wasn't. We've not heard from them since we submitted our business plans in April, 2018.
