South-African hip hop star, Cassper Nyovest, has taken to the streets to protest against the increasing rate of violence against women in his country. In an Instagram video he shared this morning on his Instagram page, Cassper wrote;

“Live from Pretoria . Marching against femicide #MenAgainstWomenAbuse#NotInMyName ,” said the rapper in the ‬Instagram post.

This is coming after Karabo’s death, led to the uncovering of more cases of ladies being killed by their boyfriends. This has also made so many people protest in the street, at the increasing rate of violence against women.

The Federal Government of Nigeria today, granted citizenship to a total of 335 foreign nationals in Abuja. They were granted citizenship by the Federal Government after statutory clearance and due diligence by the relevant security agencies.‎ ‎

The Minister of Interior, retired Lt.-Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau,‎ who presented the certificates of citizenship to the foreigners, charged them to be good ambassadors of Nigeria.

Mrs Lara Oshiomhole from Cape Verde, who got married to former Governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomole‎, in 2015 was one of the recipients.

NAN reports that Dambazau in his remarks, said that 335 applicants were approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) in January, out of the over 500 foreigners that applied. He explained that 245 of the foreigners approved were granted Citizenship by‎ Naturalisation, while 90 were by Registration, mainly foreign women married to Nigerians.

English artist Damien Hirst has been accused of cultural appropriation after his exhibition, "Treasures from the Wreck of the Unbelievable," featured a "golden head" that appears to mirror sculpted heads created by African artists from Ile-Ife Nigeria. Cradle of the West African Yoruba culture.

"For the thousands of viewers seeing this for the first time, they won't
think Ife, they won't think Nigeria," Nigerian visual artist Victor Ehikhamenor wrote on his Instagram page, along with a picture he took of Hirst's "golden head" behind glass.

"The British are back for more from 1897 to 2017. The Ooni of Ife must hear this. "Golden heads (Female)" by Damien Hirst currently part of his Venice show "Treasures from the Wreck of the Unbelievable" at Palazzo Grassi. For the thousands of viewers seeing this for the first time, they won't think Ife, they won't think Nigeria. Their young ones will grow up to know this work as Damien Hirst's.

As time passes it will pass for a Damien Hirst regardless of his small print caption. The narrative will shift and the young Ife or Nigerian contemporary artist will someday be told by a long nose critic "Your work reminds me of Damien Hirst's Golden Head". "A reference to the Ife heads is in the text accompanying the work and in the guide to the exhibition and is integral to the concept of the work."
Hirst initially declined to talk with CNN, instead referring questions through a spokesperson to curator Elena Geuna.

The exhibition features two types of captions: the label inside the cabinet, which is part of the artwork and the leaflet, describing the works in the show," Geuna told CNN. "Both captions contain a reference to the Ife heads." The label inside the cabinet on Hirst's piece reads: "Golden heads (Female),'" and the Kingdom of Ife is referenced there and in the guide.

"One of the sources of inspiration for the exhibition is the collection of the British Museum, in London, where the Ife heads are displayed," Geuna said.

"An Ife head from the British Museum collection has also been included in the famous book, 'A History of the World in 100 Objects' by the former museum director Neil MacGregor."

"The Damien Hirst work does mirror that of the Ife craftsmen of the early 14th-15th Century," the SOAS statement read. "The form of the Hirst head, with its striations, clearly echoes those Ife examples which emerged from the sacred shrine at Wunmonije Compound in the 1930s."

The world's fastest man, Usain Bolt, helped dig up the grave of his friend and fellow athlete Germaine Mason, who tragically lost his life in a motorcycle accident last month. The Jamaican-born athlete, who switched to represent Team GB in 2006 reportedly lost control of his bike while returning from a party with Bolt in Kingston and crashed, dying instantly.

According to Mirror, the pair were close friends growing up and Bolt was said to be inconsolable after learning of the news. The world’s fastest man is yet to speak publicly about the tragic news, but posted a tribute to his friend and Olympic high jump medalist on social media. Mason won a silver medal at the Beijing Olympics and was the Jamaican national high jump record holder.

Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has said that contrary to insinuations in some quarters, he does not intend to be President when the Republic of Biafra was eventually actualized.

Kanu told Vanguard that he always preferred to operate from the background, pointing out that if the pioneer leader of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, Chief Ralph Uwazurike had remained consistent with the struggle, he would not be doing what he is doing with IPOB.

Insisting that the actualization of a Republic of Biafra was a foregone conclusion, the IPOB leader said he also sympathized with the South East governors and some other political office holders’ position on Biafra, attributing it to their fear of losing their positions and political relevance in Nigeria.

He, however, said the fear being entertained by such Igbo leaders was neither here nor there because the Biafra Republic would be founded on the principle of justice, equity and fairness.

He was also happy that some Igbo leaders were already identifying with the struggle and encouraged them to remain steadfast.

He said: “I am into this struggle because of leadership vacuum. I am into this struggle because my people are suffering; they are being denied their rights and privileges and nothing will stop this fight. I want to assure our people that we are almost there.

“The Biafra Republic is almost here with us. Even if one is from Sokoto, he can be a Biafran once he believes in our value system of equity, justice and fairness.

“Biafra will be a home for all people who agree with our values, whether you are from Kano or Sokoto.It will be a place for good things for good people. Therefore, those who are distancing themselves from the Biafra struggle will regret it. If you don’t join the struggle, you will be irrelevant in the end because Biafra Republic is sure.”

Kanu described Afaraukwu -Umuahia where his father is the traditional ruler as being part of the headquarters of Biafra where the late Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu had the popular Ojukwu bunker and operated from till the end of the Biafra war, adding that there was therefore no way he would abandon his father’s land which served Biafra in time of need.

A 59-year-old Nigerian Senior Surgeon, Dr Lawal Haruna, who reportedly removed a woman’s ovary accidentally instead of her appendix has been struck off after being branded a ‘danger to patients.


He allegedly botched up three operations over the course of two years including removing a woman’s ovary because he said the appendix and fallopian tubes were similar ‘worm-like structures’ in the same area. The unnamed woman, known as Patient B, was treated by him when she was admitted for abdominal pain while he was working for Sheffield Teaching Hospitals Trust in Sheffield, South Yorkshire.

During the operation, one of her ovaries was removed leaving her appendix – which was causing her great pain – in situ. A tribunal heard how it was lucky she was not of child-bearing age as it could have affected her fertility.

Dr Haruna botched up two further operations mistaking a lump of fat for an appendix in one case and a skin tag for a harmful lump in another. Colleagues described the operations as poorly executed and ‘never events’. Haruna who claims to have 25 years experience later dismissed the incidents as ‘trifling errors’ and said the appendix and fallopian tubes were similar ‘worm-like structures which lie in a similar area.


The surgeon, who represented himself, told the Manchester hearing he had ‘poor vision’ at the time he carried out the surgery and claimed it would be ‘harsh’ to strike him off. But at the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service a disciplinary panel found him guilty of misconduct and banned him from treating patients.

Coming after news of record breaking performance went viral, Son to Nigerian music legend, Femi Kuti in his interview with Punch, clarified that only broke Kenny G’s record, as the Guinness World Record for the longest note held on a sax was set by Kenny G in 1997 but was actually broken by another sax player 17 years later.


NPR reports that the sax player who set the new record was Vann Burchfield from Birmingham and he did not make the news go viral because he loves Kenny G.

Kenny G held his note for 45 minutes and 47 seconds by using a technique called Circular Breathing. Femi Kuti dragged the note to 46 minutes and 38 seconds using same technique, but
Vann had set the record at 47 minutes and 6 seconds.

Now, Femi Kuti clarifies that he broke Kenny G’s record, not Vann Burchfield’s.

Here’s what he said in his interview;

“I did not break the Guinness World Record; I broke Kenny G’s world record. There is still another record. I don’t know Kenny G, he is not my friend and we have never performed together. I have heard about him and listened to about two of his songs even though I don’t know their titles but I have never met him in person.

Initially, when I did something similar to that and it was uploaded on Facebook, some people were making some comments like, ‘so what? Kenny G has done it before. He is a world record holder.’ Someone then checked and noted that Kenny G actually had a record of 45 minutes and 37 seconds. I said I was going to break it and the feedback I got was that it was not possible so, I tried and after the third attempt, I broke his record.


On that night if they had told me there was another record of 47 minutes 05 seconds, I would have broken it as well but no one knew of that record. It was because it was Kenny G’s record that came up when we made an internet search. I was only 38 seconds away from the current world record; I stopped playing when everyone assured me that I was in 46 minutes and I went another extra 32 seconds to be sure that everyone’s time synchronised. So nobody was in doubt that I broke Kenny G’s record.


I was just doing it to prove a point because anytime I hold a key for a long while playing the saxophone, people always mentioned Kenny G’s name. It made me wonder why they always had to compare us because it was not a competition for me. Since they were making it a deterrent to my performance, I decided to go after his record. Now the matter is resolved; no one can compare us anymore. When you have a performance, it is to enhance the creativity of the music and not to show off.


Now the case of Kenny G has been rested but since people are bringing up the case of the Guinness Book of World Record holder out, I will attempt it. I am going to attempt the world record on Sunday and if I don’t succeed this Sunday, I will try again the next Sunday. It took me three Sundays to break Kenny G’s record and do not forget age is not on my side. You have to be focused and I am sure that after I break it, I will not attempt it again. I will just set my mind. I believe it might take me three weeks to break the world record for the longest single note held on a saxophone.


Once I accomplish that, the case would rest and I can go back to doing it for one minute and nobody will tell me rubbish again. It seems as if there are some people that are just bent on always comparing me with people. I am using this to shut them up because whenever I play, they say that someone has done it better. My music was never about that but I need to do this just to put it all behind even for my own personal satisfaction.


While I am doing it, I want to make sure that I have fun. I don’t want to lose focus of putting good melody to my music which is the essence of my music at the end of the day.”

A school bus full of students swerved off a steep road in Tanzania on Saturday morning and fell into a ravine, killing 36 people -- 33 of them children, authorities said.

The fatal crash happened in city of Arusha in Tanzania's northern Karatu District, on the edge of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

"The place where it happened is a hill, with a steep slope, and it was raining when the accident happened," Aruba Police Commander Charles Mkumbo said.


Mkumbo added investigators were still trying to determine exactly what caused the bus to leave the road.

"We don't know if the driver was new or if there was a mechanical defect," he said.
CNN reported that the bus driver and two teachers on board, were also killed in the crash. Two of the students survived but were critically injured.The primary school students, aged between 12 and 13 years old, were on their way to another school to take an exam.
Tanzanian President John Magufuli expressed "great shock and sadness" over the crash.


"The accident has cut short the dreams of students who were preparing to serve the nation," Magufuli said.

TBoss further disclosed that she's not retracting what she said about finishing N25M in one week, s she's got investments to use it for. According to her, she had planned to take her mum on an all expense paid holiday, get her dad something lovely, give her five god-children good education and then if anything is left of it, she would buy herself a Chanel bag.
