1forall: It's great that you know where your heart lies because there are many who don't, so that's a good first step.

Since you ask, I actually think you're at the BEST stage to begin your career as an entrepreneur. Yes! You're at the easiest of career crossroads to negotiate. Not that it's easy, but it certainly shall become a more difficult decision to make once you get into the lifestyle of paid employment. Plus the mind is more creative when not expecting a salary.

Now I understand the influence of family in such decision making, and how they have sort of made sense to you by presenting all the reasons why you shouldn't. However, your heart isn't going to keep quiet if you settle for the immediate security of a day job. It's like marrying your second choice of partner because your family simply don't like your first choice, you'll always wonder, what if...?
Seriously I think you should write a book.
Please I'd love to pick your brain some more, here's my email : macdestiny@yahoo.com
Or you can just drop yours and I'll contact you..thanks a lot

digitite: Firstly, I applaud your sense of self and seeking to know better outside of your comfort zone. A rooted piece of advice I would give you is to follow your heart and look toward the future. Never do anything to please anyone but what is GOOD for you and your future goals. You can listen to your friends/family and learn something from them but the ultimate decision rest with you. In due time, you will be the one to sow and reap; whatever the outcome.

From experience, I have got tangible advice and ideas on vast realms of interest/entrepreneurship goals. I need to know certain things like your strengths, weaknesses, passion, and so on, to flourish you with a beneficial long term business plan. Mind you, I am not gonna share such business strategy on a public forum, we can communicate by email if you so desire.

Bless you.
How do I contact you Sir?

WoW!
I'm sHort of words... Nairalanders, you are just the BEST.

Was beginning to think I'll get no further responses only to come back now and BAM!

Personally I think the average Nigerian is a genius, judging by the depth of reasoning I've just seen here.

Saying that I'm grateful will be a cruel understatement. I feel I owe you all.... And do you know what the best part is, the views are rounded, optimists & pessimists.... Risk-seekers and averters all dishing out their mind. I've learnt a lot.

Actually I never doubted what I want to do...which is business.. But just wanted to know of it would be a bad idea to jump into it fully , without any experience of the corporate world first .
If its about capital, I got engaged in small-scale trading towards the middle of my NYSC program, I'm pretty certain I'll get enough to start-up, albeit on a VERY small scale.

I'm not afraid of making a few mistakes along the way..I'm braced for failure.
And for all those who advised to get a job first, I totally understand your point of view, but at the end of day I think it all boils down to individual personalities and what motivates each person.

I know it for a fact that this thread hasn't helped just me....but also a good number of Nigerians trying to decide on their nexT course of action.

I would also like to encourage any inexperienced youth in my shoes who might come across this thread, please No matter how much the pressure is, take some time off to think FOR YOURSELF.... The future belongs to us but we wouldn't call it OUR future if we allow tradition and pressure make the decisions for us.

Once again...I appreciate the timely responses.
God bless you all and guide every Nigerian youth.

Hello guys
Seems there's less and less of people on here over time..
Please do not let this thread die...I'm sure that if it were to be a thread about romance, celebrity gossip etc, the number of traffic would've been overwhelming...
This affects our life directly.and will also serve to encourage a lot more people than we can imagine...

That been said..
Please I'd love to know if anyone here had any idea what it takes to start a food processing business.. Authorizations, permits, trainings etc

BusinessA Paid Job Or Entrepreneurship For A Fresh Graduate? - Please Advice by nell07(op): 12:42pm On Jul 02, 2013
Sorry guys...
I just couldn't help but wonder out loud...there's no shame in admitting that you're lost/confused .........or is there? Well either way, shame is the least of my problems right now.

Honestly I've been very worried lately .
Right from my undergraduate days, I had always felt that entrepreneurship is the way for me... But now, listening to family and friends, I'm beginning to think that I'm the one who hasn't embraced reality yet.

It's even made to seem more futile when the things I see around "obviously" point to strongly validate their (friends and family) points.

So I've come here to seek the insightful AND PRACTICAL a advice of NLers:

Do you think getting a paid job is a more realistic target for a fresher like me? (Afterall I've seen young people earn healthy sums working for big multinationals).....bear in mind, I 'm not thinking this way because I performed poorly in school.... I made a healthy 2'1 from a reputable federal university.

Do yuu think there's still a way a fresher can go into the business world and come out triumphant specially in Nigeria where even getting power for production processes is "further maths"?

Please are there any other persons in my shoes out there, lets rub minds together...
Also, I'd GREATLY appreciate any piece of advice from any of our elders in the house. Please let's learn from your experience.
A sound piece of advice is like gold to me right now..
Especially when I don't know where to start.

Dean Olamide: Nice Script... Weldone guys... Why not get a producer to help u guys produce this and make moreeeee money.... Jokers...
Ummm..bro I do admit that the corruption rate in Nigeria makes most of us cynical, BUT THIS........?

Someone is genuinely asking for help and all you do is discourage others from rendering it...wow..we truly are the enemies of our own progress.

At OP:
I understand your plight. Its not been easy. I to just concluded my NYSC this June.its been quite challenging I must say...but please be careful while seeking a way out. And always consider every option objectively before going for it.... Its nice that you decided to find a good way to help yourself instead of going on the hunt for magas as a lot of ladies would do...
The lord is your strength sister.
