One of the profound critics of former President Goodluck Jonathan’s government and Lagos activist, Femi Falana have joined other Team of Jonathan critics to confess that he actually fought corruption in more civilized ways. The Lagos while speaking on Channels TV this morning said that “contrary to the general belief that former President closed his eyes to corruption, President Goodluck Jonathan did so much in the fight against corruption including the sack of three of his ministers for alleged graft. Adding to what Bishop Matthew Kukah said last week, Mr Falana concluded that President Jonathan carried out the most successful loot recovery without making noise about it. During the Jonathan era, the government introduced the Single Bank account for the country, saving billions. Their electronic payroll payment system and the Bio-metric registration of Federal workers identified 68,000 Ghost workers and over 50,000 ghost pensioners. They also introduced the Single Contract Requisition system with a Legislative oversight. The cashless economy was the reason that “Ghana-Must-Go” disappeared in the National Assembly and around the corridors of his administration. Trillion of Naira were recovered and saved the through these high-tech corruption fighting system and and was never advertised. |

The only thing I dislike about Nigerians is
our obsession with prayers.
When we deliberately get ourselves into a
bad situation, instead of looking for ways to
make amends, get out of the situation and
learn from it we start asking God to do
wonders, but God won’t do for a man what
he ought to do for himself which is why
God carefully created us and added a
brain, not only to make us better but for us
to only ask for his help when the situation
is beyond our ability.
The hatred and desperation to put an end
to the “Goodluck that wasn’t so good” led
us into believing the“Change”without
asking the details of what the Change has
for us, we simply became too emotional
during the run ins to the election, the
opposition saw this and capitalized, our
hatred, desperation and emotions to see
the end of President Goodluck Jonathan
became our Weakness.
Showing these traits, APC went to work on
our psychic by feeding us lies and
propaganda just to fuel our hatred and
desperation which In turn made us eager
to vote out the “incompetent Jona” (a title
I’m sure most us those that voted the
present president must now feel they used
too early).
The election couldn’t come earlier and
everything that happened during
preparations for the elections were
inconsequential as minds were already
made up and when Nigerians started
sharing this on social media “even if pdp
show us a picture and video of tinubu and
Buhari robbing the central bank, we will
still vote Buhari” the APC knew it was a
matter of when and not if they’ll win the
elections, Nigerians played into their hands,
made them feel like the gods they’ve
proven they’ll never be and this made APC
promised us things we knew are impossible
but because we’ve been blinded by
emotions and desperation we refused to
read beyond the Promises and ask how.
95% of the Nigerians that voted Buhari did
so because they “want the very best” for
Nigeria and in Buhari they felt they have a
man who loves Nigeria, as he is a former
head of state, and also served under
another head of state, such a man should
understand everything about Nigeria and
shouldn’t be overwhelmed by whatever
“rots” he finds in the system; also as an
election veteran, no man competes for
same position three times in twelve years
and won’t know what the seat demands
but the current realities have shown that
Nigerians elected a man that is overwhelm
by the vastness of Nigeria, a man with no
clear understanding of how to lead a multi
ethnic and multi religious nation, a man
that clearly still lives thirty years behind,, a
man that feel Nigeria should be run like a
village.
Having a man with no self improvement
(education and current affairs wise) since
leaving office and electing him president of
Africa’s biggest economy without a debate
or thorough questioning on his ‘HOWS’ is
the deliberate mistake Nigerians made and
will always live to appreciate, he won ‘our
hearts’ by his Mr Integrity tag.
A man the believes corruption is the single
biggest problem facing our nation and
solving it will automatically fix every other
things is not a man worth the highest office
in the land, pre election when General
Buhari granted an interview and promised
to fix our economy with ‘the army, navy
and air force” he clearly told us that there
is no need probing further, that he doesn’t
understand what makes an economy works
neither does he know what it takes to
correct the many issues facing our
economy, currency and nation, but like I
said earlier, the emotions and desperation
got the better of us
Having him as our President right now has
made it very difficult for the country to
progress because nobody can readily point
to the direction in which the country is
headed economic, security, even anti
corruption wise but he’s a mistake we all
shall learn from.
No man becomes great based on his
intentions, better still public perceived
intentions, he got there on who Nigerians
t
hink he was and not who is he right now,
a man that refused to update himself on
happenings around the world and upgrade
his knowledge of what he actually knows
no matter how little but many believes he’s
still the right man for the job based on the
integrity many believes he has and in also
believing that while he’s there he’d
concentrate on areas where he has much
ability and knowledge while his vice will be
in charge of other areas that require deep
academic knowledge. So far it’s not been
what we expect but lessons from his 4years
if Nigeria survives till then are;
1. Integrity is not enough for lead a
nation.
2. Debates before an election is as
important as voting
3. Electing a brilliant man as Vice
President won’t be enough cover if the
main man is not at least averagely brilliant
and a good vice won’t suddenly lead the
nation right has it’s not his job
4. Electing a man based on who you
think he is and not what he actually is can
have a serious negative effect
5. Fighting corruption shouldn’t be a
campaign promise, it’s a civic duty.
Gob bless Nigeria and I hope we survive till
2019 so we can apply these lessons in
moving our nation forward.
President Buhari is a Honest Mistake.

In Uganda, like the rest of East Africa, mechanics always remove the engine thermostats when the car first arrives in the country. They call this "tropicalising" the vehicle. And as for coolant, the owner is told, that is only necessary in cold countries - water is good enough. I recently created a bit of controversy by publishing an article (below) that stated otherwise. I am still defending my argument here as people (including expats) are having difficulty believing an engine needs a thermostat to operate correctly! And that coolant is a necessary rust inhibitor. Here's the "controversial" article Every week I see vehicles with either one or both missing. The owner/driver of the vehicle looks at me blankly when I say that they are necessary to maintain the correct running temperature of a vehicle. "But it has been running like this now for ages", they say. "It won't be for much longer", I reply, "and you'll soon have a hefty repair bill to boot". This usually grabs their attention!! Coolant Coolant or antifreeze, as it is known in colder climates, is recommended by all vehicle manufacturers. Anyone who has run a vehicle in a cold country knows the importance of antifreeze but why then should we put it in our vehicle in a hot country? The answer is two fold. Firstly, coolant has a corrosion inhibitor, which does what it says. It prevents the build up of corrosion in the cooling system. I'm sure everyone is aware that if you leave a sheet of steel open to the elements it quickly gets covered with rust. This is exactly what happens to the cooling system of your vehicle if run with water only. Eventually the corrosion will build up until it starts to effect the efficiency of the main parts - i.e. the radiator (replacements cost as much as 1.6 million Ush), the water pump, the thermostat and the hoses. Secondly, coolant raises the boiling point of the cooling system. Therefore, if part of the system does fail and the engine does start to overheat, less damage will occur as fluid loss by vapour evaporation is kept to a minimum. Thermostats On then to thermostats. Too often I hear people and so called mechanics saying that thermostats aren't necessary in a hot climate. A thermostat controls the internal temperature of the engine and keeps that temperature constant. Most engines are designed to run at a temperature of 80 degrees Celsius and above. I would like any one to name me a country that has a temperature that high!! If you run without a thermostat then parts of the engine will run too cool and this can cause accelerated wear. Also, the engine as a whole, will be running at uneven temperatures and therefore, is susceptible to failures. Especially if the engine is made from dissimilar metals i.e. steel engine block with an aluminium cylinder head. If your thermostat becomes faulty by all means take it out, but make sure another correct one is put in its place. So, if you're unsure get it checked and put right. In the long run it will be cheaper and more reliable!! Safe and happy motoring. |
I would just toss the thermostat. But, if you need the Thermostat....on the side of the gate of the thermostat....there will be a flat brass area. In that area drill a relief hole, if its a narrow area drill 2 , 1/8th inch round holes. WHY? When the thermostat gate closes it not only stops the water....it also traps air causing a air pocket and then causes it to over heat. With the modern seals in the water pumps will not allow leaking.....sometime it will allow air to be sucked into the seal area when the car is cold, and then sucked into the impeller and the then motor, causing overheating. So that is the reason for the needed hole. 25 years ago all American thermostats had relief holes, and this problem never occurred. They were always 160 degree thermostats...where yours is 190 or 225 degrees, the boiling point of water is 212 degrees. Need I say more. I buy 160 degree thermostats by the bunch and keep them around....especially for Fords in summer and Freeway traffic; which is a motor killer if they use the a/c. On a the side of the road, for a repair, I use a small length of copper wire hooked around the bridge of the thermostat, and the other end passed thur the seal seat area....so as to hold the valve open just a small bit to relieve air and pressure, and then replace the hose and water with a can. Most call and just thank me...and let me know the car was fine after that.....and they come around for hoses and other stuff. I do 25 or 30 a year like that, and if they come around I just stick a 160 thermostat with a relief hole, in the system and don't charge them.... (the 160's cost about a dollar, bulk) Some mechanics who claim that they have 30 years experience; ...just really do the same thing EACH year....30 times over. So they really only have 1 or 2 years real time experience. You kinda gotta watch for that..... Well you had the question...there's your answer..... Good Luck....Now it is up to you.....tell your friends about your experience with this...and it will start years of knowledge being passed around......it will have a life of its own and help others. |
