The World Igbo Congress(WIC) has concluded a preliminary session for its upcoming convention slated for August 30 to September 2, 2019, in Houston, United States.

One of the agenda to call Nnamdi Kanu and Asari Dokubo to order and probably settle the dispute between them.

In a release by its Executive Director, Dr Kenneth Igwe and his deputy Chief Godwin Ndukwe, the group agreed to work closely with leaders to remove obstacles frustrating the growth of the international market hub centres in Aba and Onitsha.

The Congress agreed to tackle the insecurity and economic barriers affecting business activities in Igboland, also the issue of Biafra agitation.

The group also frowned on the Nigerian authorities undignified silence, after the state-sponsored election malpractice aimed at disenfranchising Igbo voters in the last election.

The body invited all the elected governors and federal legislatures from the Eastern part of the country to the World Igbo Stakeholders meeting.

They also stated that discussions with the American embassy are ongoing to ensure maximum cooperation for invitees.

Troops on operation “Exercise Harbin Kunama III’’, have arrested a suspect the army described as “notorious’’ bandit logistics supplier, Marwana Abubakar in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State.

Army Spokesperson, Col. Sagir Musa, in a statement to NAN on Friday, said that troops have also arrested a local weapons fabricator, Salisu Ibrahim during a raid on the suspected facility at Kontagora in Kontagora Local Government Area of Niger.

”On Wednesday, based on credible information, troops raided kidnappers’ hideout in Kaduna, killed two suspected bandits and recovered two AK 47 rifles and ammunition.”

The Court of Appeal will today deliver judgment on the appeal filed by former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Walter Onnoghen.

The announcement was contained in a short statement issued yesterday by Sa’adatu Musa Kachalla, spokesperson of the court.

“Notice is hereby given. The Appeal filed by Hon. Justice Walter Onnoghen is ripe for judgement, tomorrow morning in Abuja Division. Thank you for your usual cooperation,” Kachalla said.

The Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) had convicted Onnoghen on six counts bordering on false assets declaration.

The tribunal ordered that he should be removed from office and banned him from holding public office for 10 years.

It also ordered the forfeiture of the money in the five accounts which the defendant failed to declare as part of his assets.

However, he appealed the judgement based on 16 grounds.

“The onus was on the prosecution to prove that that the defendant did not declare and submit his assets declaration form to the Code of Conduct Bureau for over 11 years as charged,” Onnoghen said in his appeal.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has extended a formal invitation to the President of the Senate Bukola Saraki over its current probe of the tenure of Senate President Bukola Saraki when he was governor of Kwara State from 2003 to 2011.

He is to com e to the commission on May 29, 2019. The anti-graft agency also said that it has a sacred mandate to rid the country of corruption, no matter whose ox is gored.

It said Saraki has no need to fret as long as he has no skeletons in his cupboard.

The EFCC, which stated this in a statement in Abuja by its Acting Head of Media and Publicity, Mr Tony Orilade, said it will conduct a legitimate forensic inquiry into Saraki’s tenure as a governor.

The anti-graft body, in a letter, dated April 26, wrote the Kwara State government about some information on Saraki’s earnings as the state governor.

But Saraki alleged that the EFCC’s inquest was a plot to intimidate and frame him up.

The anti-graft agency assured him that it is only investigating the Senate President in line with its mandate.

The statement said: “The EFCC has taken note of the reactions of Senate President Bukola Saraki to the commission’s inquiries regarding his earnings as Kwara State governor as well as on the quality of his financial stewardship in the Senate.

The People Democratic Paty PDP has accused President Buhari that he worked tirelessly to influence Court of Appeal in Abuja to overturn the victory given them by the Osun State Election Tribunal.

The statement was released by the Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Kola Ologbondiyan who said Buhari has compromised three out the four members of the Appeal Court panel in Abuja to change the judgment in the favour of the All Progressives Congress.

Three other members of the appeal tribunal agreed with Sankey who set aside the judgment of Osun Election tribunal, one member disagreed.

Also, the chairman, Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr Soji Adagunodo, has said the party would appeal the judgement of the Appeal panel that upheld the victory of Mr Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress in the last September election.

The Save Ogbia Movement (SOM) has insisted that former President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Patience, worked against the interests of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the last general elections.

The group in a statement said the former President despite benefitting immensely from PDP abandoned candidates of his party especially in Ogbia Local Government Area and the entire East Senatorial District in the last elections.

The statement signed by the Secretary of the group, Franklin Azibola James, noted that few days to the election, the former President called a meeting of his loyalists in the party at his Otuoke home and told them to vote for the PDP Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and other candidates of their choice in the National and house of assembly elections.

James lamented that Jonathan’s disposition and lack of contributions to the party made the elections very difficult for the PDP and brought the ugly narrative of an opposition party winning his senatorial district.

He recalled that while holding sway as the President on the platform of the PDP, Jonathan failed to contribute to the unity of his party at home but allowed his presidential aides to sow seeds of discord, that almost destabilize Bayelsa.

The police in Nigeria have emerged as the most corrupt public institution in the country, according to a new survey released today by Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP).

The power sector was ranked second in the survey’s corruption index, which examined five public institutions in Nigeria in the last 5 years.

Other public institutions identified as corrupt by 70% of Nigerians surveyed are: the judiciary, education and health ministries. The survey reveals that the level of corruption has not changed in the last 5 years.

The report entitled Nigeria: Corruption Perception Survey was launched today at the Sheraton Hotels, Lagos.

According to the survey, “a bribe is paid in 54% of interactions with the police. In fact, there is a 63% probability that an average Nigerian would be asked to pay a bribe each time he or she interacted with the police. That is almost two out of three.”

Kano Rerun election results coming from all the local governments where the election took place today suggests that the All Progressives Congress candidate Governor Abdullahi Ganduje has overturned the People Democratic Party victory.

Our reporters who are monitoring the rerun election disclosed that Governor Abdullahi Ganduje has overtaken the PDP which was leading with 26,000 votes.

Before the rerun, the People Democratic Party PDP candidate scored 1,014,474, leading the APC candidate who scored 987,819 votes, adding that 2,155,128 was recorded as Valid and 49,761 votes were rejected.

The PDP is leading the APC with 26,000 votes, while the votes cancelled was 128,572. But the supplementary election results coming in so far has put the candidate of the All Progressives Congress in clear lead.

Although, the supplementary election was marred with violence and many cases of vote-buying by the two leading political party.

Meanwhile, the people Democratic Party has asked INEC to cancel Kano State Supplementary election over the widespread of violence.

Results from 21 local councils have been collated already and it saw the incumbent Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of the All Progressives Congress, shrinking the 26,655 vote gap between him and his challenger, Abba Kabir-Yusuf of the Peoples Democratic Party.

The votes from Nasarawa is expected to decide the winner of the election.

The PDP complained that its supporters were chased by armed thugs in some of the areas where voting took place. But the APC and the police said the election was peaceful in many areas.

Sen. Bola Tinubu, an All Progressives Congress (APC) National Leader, says his moral authority plays a role in his ability to influence elections.

“The advertorial, placed by an organisation called the Sokoto State Coalition of PDP Supporters, bears the logo of PDP National Youth League and is signed by one Engr. Haruna Usman Shagari.

“The advert made baseless allegations against myself, Comrade Adams Oshiomole, Chairman of APC, Sen. Adamu Aliero and Gov. Abdul’Aziz Yari of Zamfara.

“It falsely alleges that I, along with the others, met the INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu in order to influence the Sokoto State gubernatorial rerun election in favour of the APC.

“These allegations by a contrived PDP organ are desperate untruths without a basis in fact. But they are entirely in line with the delusional reactions of PDP to their loss in the presidential elections,” he said.

The People Democratic Party Governorship Candidate of Lagos state Jimi Agbaje has dumped the People Democratic Party over an unresolved disagreement between him and the leadership of the party in the state.

This contains in a statement made available to newsmen in Lagos. Agbaje revealed that it is necessary for him to leave this party after a series of allegations that arose after our party lost the Governorship election in Lagos State.

The former Governor of Ogun State Olugbenga Daniel, who also served as Director-General of Atiku Abubakar Campaign Organisation has resigned from active politics but his supporters demand from him to lead them to the All Progressives Congress APC.

The supporters who cut across all the local government areas in the state asked him to, instead, lead them to the All Progressives Congress.

Daniel’s supporters who converged on his ‘Asoludero’ private residence in Sagamu GRA, held a meeting with him and prevailed on him to lead them to the APC, instead of abandoning them in “political wilderness.”

Daniel’s loyalists anchored their demands on the fact that they had worked towards the emergence of the governorship candidate of the APC in the state, Dapo Abiodun.

Some of those who spoke at the meeting included a former Chairman of Ogun/Osun River Basin, Iyabo Apampa; a former Director-General of Ladi Adebutu Campaign Organisation, Waliu Taiwo; former Special Assistant to Daniel on Youths, Ifekayode Akinbode; and senatorial candidate of the PDP, Jelili Amusan, among others.

They told their leader that they were not willing to entertain any excuse from him for quitting partisan politics.

They told him to forget whatever he might have personally suffered during his stay at the PDP, stressing that “life itself is full of ups and downs.”

Earlier, Daniel had informed the audience that his assignment in Ogun politics as well as that of Nigeria as a whole had been completed and was ready to quit politics “when the ovation is loudest.”

Founder of One Love Family, Satguru Maharaj Ji, has joined the party counselling, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, against going to court to challenge the outcome of the February 23 elections.

According to him, Atiku should spend on orphanages instead of giving money to lawyers to contest the results of the February 23 presidential election.

Maharaj, who also predicted victory for the governorship candidates of the All Progressives Congress in Lagos and Oyo states, said the PDP wasted the country’s resources and did not deserve another chance at governance.

The religious leader spoke during an exclusive chat with our correspondent on Thursday.

While urging the Federal Government to provide adequate security at polling booths, he asked Nigerians to vote for leaders who would move their states forward.

He said, “There is no need for anybody going to court.

“The money Atiku has, he should take it to motherless babies’ homes and rehabilitation centres instead of giving it to lawyers.

“I want Nigerians to exercise their franchise on Saturday peacefully. They should be security conscious.

“In the past, Nigerians were deprived of their rights to elect their leaders. With the government in place now, I believe we have the chance to choose freely.

“This is our chance to vote out poverty, looting, terrorism and all kinds of unproductive attitude in our society.”

He said he believed that the Lagos APC governorship candidate, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, will win.

Maharaj Ji noted that the PDP did not have the goodwill to remove the ruling party in Lagos.

“I don’t know why we are mentioning the PDP. For 16 years, they held us to ransom.

“From what I see through the spirit of the ancestors, Sanwo-Olu will win. Even if you go to Oyo State, the APC candidate will win.
