The bill, ‘Protection from Internet Falsehood and Manipulations Bill, 2019,’ seeks to guide how activities on the internet can be tolerated as well as curb fake news on the internet.

Mohammed Musa, who sponsored the bill, said it seeks to address the growing threats which if left unchecked, can cause serious damage to our polity and disrupt peaceful existence.

He also argued during the lead debate that one of the disadvantages of the internet is the spread of falsehood and manipulation of unsuspecting users.

Although the bill was passed by a voice vote, indicating that a majority of the lawmakers supported it, four senators, apart from the sponsor, spoke in its support during the debate.The four are: Ibrahim Gobir (APC, Sokoto East), Abba Moro (PDP, Benue South), Elisha Abbo (PDP, Adamawa North) Bala Na’Allah (APC, Kebbi South).

More than 700 tapeworms were found in a man's body, including his brain and lungs, a month after he ate uncooked pork.

Zhu Zhongfa, 46, ingested the eggs of the parasite Taenia solium - better known as the pork tapeworm - from his dinner.

The construction worker, of Hangzhou in the Zhejiang Province of East China had suffered regular seizures for the few weeks following.

When he went to hospital, he was foaming at the mouth and losing consciousness, local reports said.

Doctors said the worm larvae had entered Mr Zhu's body through his digestive system and then made their way to his brain through the bloodstream.

The larvae - newly hatched worms - get into body tissues and form cysts there. These cysts can then decay and cause infections.

Symptoms such as chronic headaches, blindness, seizures and dementia follow, but may not appear for years after ingesting the eggs.

A Taenia solium infection, taeniasis, happens after someone eats tapeworm eggs in contaminated or uncooked pork.

Tissue cysts cause the infection cysticercosis, which are particularly dangerous when they occur in the brain or nervous system, an infection known as neurocysticercosis.

The eggs may also mature into adults in around two months. This can happen in various organs of the human body, as well as the muscles, skin, eyes and the central nervous system.

According to Newsweek, Mr Zhu revealed he had eaten a hot pot about a month ago and he was unsure the pork was fully cooked.

He sought medical attention after suffering from regular seizures and random fainting over a period of a few weeks.

The cysts had also reached his brain (pictured, the white blobs in a scan of his skull) causing seizures and lack of consciousness

Dr Huang Jianrong, from the Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine, ordered brain and chest MRI scans.

These revealed that Mr Zhu's brain and chest were riddled with cysts of the pork tapeworm.

Dr Huang said: 'He not only had numerous space-occupying lesions in his brain, he also had cysts in his lungs and chest muscles.

'Different patients respond differently to the infection depending on where the parasites occupy.

'In this case, he had seizures and lost consciousness, but others with cysts in their lungs might cough a lot.'

Dr Huang added: 'We killed the larvae using antiparasitic drugs and prescribed medication to protect his organs and reduce any side effects brought on by the treatment.

'Phase one of the treatment has now concluded after a successful week. Now we'll run further tests.'

It is still unclear whether Mr Zhu will suffer any long-term effects from the tapeworm infection.

Cysticercosis and neurocysticercosis are most common in farming communities in developing countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

In 2015, the World Health Organization identified T. solium as a leading cause of death from food-borne diseases.

The parasite has been virtually eradicated in the US and tapeworm infections are rare in the UK.

Instagram famed crossdresser Idris Okuneye alias Bobrisky has been arrested by the Police for breach of public peace and indecency and is currently in police custody.

Bobrisky who escaped to evade arrest following the deployment of policemen to scuttle his planned birthday celebrations.

President Muhammadu Buhari says most instances of inter-communal and inter-religious strife and violence were and are still being sponsored or incited by ethnic, political or religious leaders.

The President, who stated this in his Democracy Day address on Wednesday in Abuja, said that the leaders were hoping to benefit by “exploiting our divisions and fault lines, thereby weakening our country’’.

The new Secretary to the Imo state Governor, Chief Uche Onyeagucha, has berated the immediate past Governor of Imo state, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, over alleged mismanagement of the state’s resources throughout his reign.

President Muhammadu Buhari has in compliance with the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, submitted his assets declaration forms to the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), with no significant changes in assets as declared in 2015, when he said he had N30m, five homes and 270 heads of cattle.

Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President, Media and Publicity, said the president has submitted his forms in compliance with the law that asset declaration must precede his oath-taking slated for Wednesday.

According to Garba, the forms, as signed by the President and sworn to before a Judge of the Abuja High Court, showed no significant changes in assets as declared in 2015 by him.

“There are no new houses, no new bank accounts at home and abroad and there are no new shares acquired”, he said.

The implication is that the President’s assets have not significantly changed than he declared in 2015.

In 2015, Buhari declared that he had N30 million to his name.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday vowed to investigate the National leader of the All Progressives Congress Bola Tinubu over the bullion vans that drove into his home in February

The development raised controversies because it came a day to the presidential election on February 23.

The Senatorial candidate of the Accord Party (AP)for Abia North District in the just-concluded 2019 general election and now, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Onyekachi Iheme, has slammed the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, over his comment on the quest for the Igbo extraction to produce next Nigeria president in 2023.

Amaechi had declared that Igbo have no chance of taking over from President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.

Amaechi said this was simply because, the South East geo-political zone voted against Buhari in the 2019 presidential election.

Iheme, while reacting to the minister’s statement, in an interview with newsmen, Tuesday, explained that South East, as integral part of the country got 25 per cent votes for the President during election, wondering why the federal government had continued to marginalize Igbos despite the performances of the APC in the South East.

Because, if you look at the performances of the party in the last 2019 election, you can bear me witness that President Buhari, like never before, polled the required 25 per cent votes needed in all the five eastern states put together. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo knelt down for then Vice President Atiku Abubakar in his desperate bid to secure the ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2003 poll, according to Professor Wole Soyinka.

The revelation came yesterday as the Nobel laureate gave a rare insight into the high-stake lobbying and negotiations that preceded the PDP’s presidential primaries in which Atiku was highly favoured to win at the expense of his then boss Obasanjo.



Besides, Soyinka spoke on how genuine efforts by Chief Bola Ige to reposition the energy sector as Power Minister between 1999 and 2000 were sabotaged by Obasanjo.

Soyinka was replying a question at a special reading session to mark the presentation of his latest book, “Quis Custodiet Ipsos Custodes?: Gani’s Unfinished Business”, at the Freedom Park, Lagos.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Louis Odion, one-time Edo State Information Commissioner and The Nation columnist, asked the literary giant whether he believed a sensational claim last year by Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose of witnessing Obasanjo going down on his knees in Tripoli before the late President Muamar Ghaddafi in his desperate bid to secure the Libyan strongman’s support for an extension of his chairmanship of the African Union (AU), since the former Nigerian President has neither denied nor confirmed the account.

Fayose’s account was published by an Abuja-based monthly magazine, The Interview.

Till date, none of these ministers has been replaced; leaving their states without representation in the cabinet.

On the list also is Mr. Taiwo Akinwunmi from Oyo State, who designed the Nigerian flag. The then President Goodluck Jonathan had given him double honours in September 2014 when he conferred on him the national honours of Order of the Federal Republic (OFR) and appointed him special assistant to the president for life.

The list, obtained ahead of the dissolution of the cabinet as the Buhari administration winds down its first tenure in office and prepares for its second term from May 29, 2019, following Buhari’s victory in the last election, categorised ministers, special advisers, senior special assistants and personal assistants as presidential aides.

Among the aides are those seconded to the office of the vice-president, the office of the chief of staff to the president, office of the wife of the president, Mrs. Aisha Buhari, office of the wife of the vice-president, Mrs. Dolapo Osinbajo, and some ministries, departments and agencies(MDAs).

The list also includes the names of the president and Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo.

Of a total of 161 political aides, 88 work with the president, 39 with the vice-president, and 25 were seconded to ministries, the office of the chief of staff and extra-ministerial agencies, among others.

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has removed Governor Willie Obiano as its Board of Trustees Chairman (BoT)

Also, removed was late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu’s wife, Bianca as member alongside others

The decisions were taken on Tuesday in Awka during the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, which followed the expiration of the four year term of the members of the BOT.

Meanwhile, the party had picked May 31 as for it’s National convention at the Prof Dora Akunyili women development center in Awka, Anambra state.

New BOT members were to be nominated ahead of its National Convention for ratification, as read out by the National Secretary of APGA, Labaran Maku

Also, the Ward and Local Government Congresses of the party would hold on the 19th and 21st of May

Leah was held back for refusing to convert to Islam after the Nigerian government negotiated and paid ransom for the release of the other school girls.

On February 19, 2018, Boko Haram terrorist stormed the Government Girls Science and Technical College, Dapchi and carted away 110 school girls.

On 21 March 2018 after negotiating with terrorists, the Nigerian government announced the release of all but one of the kidnapped school girls; Leah Sharibu Swas held back and not negotiated for on account of her faith.

Dame Patience Jonathan, wife of former President Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, has been accused of collecting a total of N4,900,000, which is N700, 000 monthly salary seven months after she retired as a civil servant.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) ON Monday alleged that the former First Lady, who effectively retired from the Bayelsa State Civil Service as a Permanent Secretary on October 14, 2014, was paid her salary up till May 2015, when her husband left office.

The Commission stated this at the Federal High Court in Lagos during hearing of a forfeiture case it brought against Mrs. Jonathan.

The agency is praying the court to order the final forfeiture of $8.4 million and N7.4 billion allegedly belonging to her.

Justice Mojisola Olatoregun declined to grant EFCC’s application for final forfeiture but directed parties to give oral evidence to justify ownership.

She said there were conflicting depositions in the affidavits before her, adding that oral evidence was needed to clear them up.

The judge had last April 20 ordered the funds’ temporary forfeiture to the Federal Government.

Mrs. Jonathan, Globus Integrated Services Ltd, Finchley Top Homes Ltd., Am-Pm Global Network Ltd, Pagmat Oil and Gas Ltd, Magel Resort Ltd and Esther Oba are the respondents.

Among the temporarily forfeited sums are N1.085billion and N226.3million found in Finchley’s Ecobank account and N39.4million found in its Diamond Bank account, as well as N55.9million found in Pagmat Oil and Gas’ Diamond Bank account, among others.

Mrs. Jonathan’s lawyers, including Chief Ifedayo Adedipe (SAN) and Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN), had argued that the funds included donations and legitimate earnings by the companies linked to her.

But, EFCC said the money was “reasonably suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activity”.

At the commencement of proceedings yesterday, Mrs Jonathan’s lawyers called a former Head of Service of Bayelsa State, Mr. Fraser Ogboru, as its first witness.

In his testimony, Ogboru, who said he retired from Bayelsa State Civil Service on December 31, 2014, told the court that he had knew Mrs. Jonathan when her husband was a Deputy Governor.

He claimed he was still in service when Mrs. Jonathan was appointed a permanent secretary.

During cross-examination by EFCC counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo, the witness said he had no knowledge of when Patience Jonathan’s salary was stopped as he had already left service by then.

Oyedepo: “The first respondent’s (Mrs Jonathan) effective date of retirement is 16th October, 2014. Would you be surprised to hear that the first respondent was still earning salaries till May 2015?”

Ogboru: “I would be surprised.”

Ogboru said a Permanent Secretary’s monthly salary was about N700,000 while the gratuity upon retirement was just over N20million
