Politics › Re: Biafra Of My Dream by NewBorn2: 9:56am On Nov 06, 2015 |
Ugochukwu45: By Uzonna Ononye - (This has been published on www.homelandnewsng.com)
I grew up hearing stories of how the bearded one who knows English language more than the original owners confronted the evil of his time. When it was more like a suicide mission to speak against the orchestrated bloodletting of his people. What began as a military operation created an avenue for those who felt inferior to the intellectual capacity of the wise men from the east to revenge and attempt to overthrow the order of superiority.
Yes, if it was because the soldiers who carried out the first military coup in the country were predominantly Igbos and some of them clearly sabotaged the motive and gave it an ethnic coloration, then the harshest punishment known to the military should be meted to them. No one will complain. Subsequently, a number of other coups have taken place where the perpetrators could not pull through and paid for their lust for power. None ever attracted as much as a protest of placard carrying youths chanting "we no go gree ooo, we no go gree." But when it became an open invitation to wipe out a people from the face of the earth... Afterall, it is only a tree that will hear of a plot to take away its life and still remain rooted at one spot.
The consequence is 30 months of genocide because a people felt that since they cannot be accommodated and protected within the contraption called Nigeria, they will rather go and find their own land.
Biafra was a child of circumstance. It was a response to situations that cannot be likened to any other. The selective killing was unimaginable. I heard and read that in some cases, the murderers will go from house to house in search of Igbos who they had condemned to death for no other reason than who they were and where they come from. I was told and available written records validate the story that when Igbos began to flee from the North, those whose conscience were beclouded by greed and inferiority complex, will waylay them and will slaughter a truck load of human beings, women and children inclusive. Their offence is that they call Mmili and not Ruwa.
There is no agreeable statistics of those who were killed, maimed or rendered homeless in the genocide called war but there seem to be a consensus that millions of souls perished through guns, grenade and other weapons deployed against the unprepared people of the Eastern part of Nigeria. Many also died of hunger and starvation.
Today, 45 years after the pogrom, Biafra has become the Ideology of the "never say die."
I heard and also read from very reliable sources that every Igbo man, no matter how much you had in the bank before the crisis broke, was given 20 pounds. Let us reason this way; the capital for any business owned by any Igbo man coming from the war era was not more than 20 pounds. It is therefore beyond human comprehension to fathom how the people deprived and robbed of their wealth could stage a come-back in the manner Igbo sons and daughters did in this less than half a decade.
Biafra of my dream may no longer be a geographical expression but has become the spirit of "onye aghana nwanne ya" which translates to, be your brothers' keeper.
Pursuing the Biafra of my dream will push me to keep asking for explanation over the dead bodies that floated on the Ezu River in January 2013. Anambra state government at the time and our representatives at the National Assembly allowed the matter to be swept under the carpet after few weeks of grandstanding and the people moved on as if nothing happened but the souls of those young men is still asking for justice. The Biafra blood in me is thirty and yearning for a time when political cleavages will be covered and eroded in pursuit of common good of the people. When the elite will quit selfishness and personal aggrandizement in order to secure the comfort of the majority.
Seeking the Biafra of my dream will involve demanding compensation for all those economic policies that were targeted at impoverishing my people. Nigerian government over time created environment that encourage monopoly and kill healthy competition in business all because Igbos should not be allowed to gain upper hand again or so it seems.
The Biafra of my dream is where equality is the bedrock of justice, peace and progress. If other geopolitical zones in Nigeria has not less than six state, why should the South East have less? Is it because the region is too poor that more states will not be viable or because creating an extra state will give them opportunity to demand for equal rights in the distribution of national wealth?
I am looking for a Biafra where my counselor at the local government and the Chairman of the council have my well being as their first responsibility. I eagerly await for the time when the member representing Idemili North in the Anambra State House of Assembly cares about me and the governor does not care about my Local Government of origin or my creed while paying attention to my request and distributes our resources equitably, in a manner that gives all of us sense of belonging. My representative at the House of Representatives and the Senate should not see themselves as lord unto themselves. That is what I am hoping to see, after all, there is no foreigner among them, we are all Igbos.
I am waiting for a time when an Ebonyi man will find home and peace in Anambra and the man from Enugu will not be scared to travel to Ngwa. I am longing for the time when an Nnewi man will fall in love with a lady and not look back when he discovers she is from Mbaise. I am looking forward to when the rich man from Akpugo Eze will see the young businessman from Obazu Mbierri as his brother and mentor him instead of stifling him and pushing him out of business. That is the Biafra of my dream.
Biafra will be a reality when those who seized the property that did not belong to them come begging to pay restitution. They will not just return the property they forcefully took away from their "brothers" but will also offer to refund revenue derived from the building for the past 45 years. There was no building that was abandoned. No, let us stop deceiving ourselves. The owner may have fled for his life but returned after the war. How did it amount to abandonment? When the oppressors pay back "their debt," then I will know that Biafra is nearer than we thought.
For now, the campaign for Biafra as a geographical expression is a denial that the millions of soul that perished in the quest for recognition and acceptance in Nigeria paid the price for us. It is an acceptance of perpetual defeat. Asking that we quit now to me, is admission of weakness and not show of strength. Because if we have sacrificed so much to keep Nigeria together, I am persuaded that we must insist on getting our rightful place and demanding our fair share of the common wealth is the way to go.
How soon we will succeed will be determined by how well we strategise and how soon we realise that quitting is not an option. In a Dream, you better wake up. Buhari will not spare any scarecrow from the east. He believes in Nigeria more than any past president. You should have done this during GEJ period. GEJ care less so far he had his ogogoro! Wait till we have another GEJ |

Christianity Etc › Re: Was Mohammed A Real Prophet ? by NewBorn2: 8:53am On Nov 06, 2015 |
Nina4u: So next question comes up ...Was Muhammed a real prophet Mohammed was not a true prophet..... And I say that because, you see, the true prophet must receive a direct call from God, especially if he will be the founder of a religion. Mohammed is the founder of Islam. Moses received a direct call from God. Mohammed didn't receive a direct call from God. The story is very interesting........ He was in the cave of Hira, outside of Mecca, and there, a spirit appeared to Mohammed.....and then, the spirit squeezed Mohammed very tightly, that he thought that he was going to die....... And the spirit said to Mohammed, "Read." Mohammed was illiterate, he could not read. And he said, "I cannot read." Then the spirit squeezed him more tightly that he thought he was going to die. And the spirit said to him, "Read!" "I cannot read," Mohammed answered. Then the spirit squeezed him more tightly. He was afraid that he was going to die. And he said, "Read!" He said, "What shall I read?" The words should be recited because he could not read. How could you command someone who doesn't know how to read, read? You say to him, "Recite!" And then he said, "What shall I read?" And he said, "Read, in the name of thy Lord, who created man from the clot," etc, etc. So the Quran is not the invention of Mohammed. The Quran was given to him by that spirit who appeared to him at the cave of Hira. The Muslims say, that the spirit was Gabriel the angel. They say the angel Gabriel is the spirit who appeared to Mohammed at the cave of Hira , and he squeezed him tightly. But listen, when you go the Bible, Gabriel appeared to many people. Gabriel appeared to Daniel, and Daniel was scared. And he said, "Do not be afraid, Daniel." Then he appeared Zecharia, the father of John the Baptist. And he was afraid, and Gabriel said, "Do not be afraid, do not be afraid." Then he appeared to Mary. And Mary was troubled, and Gabriel said, "Do not be afraid." But that spirit who met Mohammed and squeezed him, left him very troubled. He was scared to death. And when he went back to his wife Khadigah, he said, "I am scared, I am scared! I am trembling?" She said, "What?" He said, "I don't know, I don't know. I am afraid that I am possessed." Then she took him to a bishop in Mecca, by the name of Waraka Bin Nawfal, who was her cousin, and she told him about what happened. And this Waraka, the bishop of the Amunit cult in Mecca said to her, "Oh, be quiet. Be quiet. Mohammed will be the prophet of the Arabs." So the one who declared Mohammed a prophet was the bishop of Mecca. And that is the historical fact. So the Quran is not the invention of Mohammed. It was dictated to him by that spirit.....and I want to tell you something, it's not a miracle, because any book would not be a miracle. Any book, you know.......Shakespeare wrote many books, it's not a miracle. Plato wrote many books, not a miracle...... The books cannot be a miracle because if I cannot understand the language, I cannot confirm if it's a miracle or not. The miracle is to raise somebody, to heal somebody, to give the sight to somebody, these are miracles! But to tell me that this book is a miracle, I don't buy that!!!! By the time Religion finishes wiTh mankind. This invention of a sort is obviously more dangerous than Nuclear weapon. A cancer in your mind! |
Sports › Re: Eaglets Edge Wasteful Mexico In Concepcion Classic by NewBorn2: 8:49am On Nov 06, 2015 |
omirb: Nov 6, 2015 05:13:00 Nigeria: Six goals and a record-equalling ninth for Victor Osimhen, but it was a lot tighter than the 4-2 scoreline suggested, as both teams played out the game of the tournament.
COMMENT By Solace Chukwu Follow on Twitter The visceral joy of watching youth level football is the chance to witness a game untainted, free of the leaven of the Pharisees, whose knowledge contains corruption implicit. Then again, maybe it is just nostalgia, a yearning for the mental El Dorado of a bygone age, free of gamesmanship, cheating, and every such thing. Artlessness has its own attractions.
Mexico went for Nigeria right from the opening bell, weaving, jabbing and twisting away, nary a nod to caution. By the end, neither side could give any more; indeed, it would be unreasonable to have expected better. This was as good a game as you will ever see at U17 level.
Observing the trend of the tournament, it was only a matter of time before Emmanuel Amunike’s charges got a ticking-off for their limpid starts, a quirk both Brazil coach Carlos Amadeu and, tonight, Mario Arteaga picked up on and sought to punish.
Unlike the Brazilians, Mexico made the most of their early verve, edging ahead through Kevin Magana. It might have been their second; indeed, there may well have been more by the half-hour, as Nigeria reclined, complacent in their own sense of invincibility, bred by the tournament’s most prolific goal-haul. In those moments, El Tri may have ended the game as a contest. If you come at the king, you best not miss.
Magana | Making the most of Nigeria's lethargy
For a team that has scored 20 goals in six games, goalkeeper Akpan Udoh gets through a tremendous amount of work. Here again, he produced his regular left-handed Buffon save early on, (it is no surprise that he frequently faces shots from his right, as John Lazarus is very much the weak link in this team) before scooping a header onto the cross bar to keep the deficit at one. He is part goalkeeper, part oxygen tank, keeping the team breathing just long enough for them to break the surface and explode into the light.
It was just as well that he did, as five minutes later, drill sergeant Kelechi Nwakali sounded the alarm for the sleepy Golden Eaglets, winning and curling home a majestic free-kick with utmost precision and delicacy. If that was a creamy mousse, then Orji Okonkwo’s explosion was a pungent chili, a lick of fire down the spine that came out of nowhere to produce a half-time lead.
The scoreline was repeated in the second period, a perfect symmetry to underline a fact that it intrinsically undermines: this was a game decided by moments, and it was a lot closer than a two-goal margin would suggest. Victor Osimhen, all through this tournament both worker-ant and Queen, had a subdued game, but settled the tie with a cool penalty seven minutes from the end to equal the record of nine held by both Souleymane Coulibaly and Florent Sinama-Pongolle.
Osimhen | A record-equalling effort
Until then, the same looseness that has characterised the Nigerian defence all through the tournament had threatened to give the Central Americans another way back into the match. Magana fluffed a chance easier than his first half goal, while right-back Diego Cortes went on an improbable half-run through the heart of the Golden Eaglets, and only had to skirt one challenge before scoring.
More than any other team, Mexico asked searching questions of the Nigerian team, and received few answers. Nigeria scored four goals, and twice hit the woodwork, but it was Arteaga’s side who opened up their opponents with greater regularity—two of Nigeria’s goals were from dead-balls, one was a once-a-lifetime missile; only Osinachi Ebere’s third saw Nwakali, producing his first statement performance of the U17 World Cup, prise open El Tri’s backline. Even then, goalkeeper Abraham Romero would not commend his own efforts in keeping it out.
As he ascetically eschews the joy of every goal, one would assume this is not lost of Amunike. A wrinkled Buddha, inscrutable as a Buckingham Palace guard, his fierce concentration is the perfect touchline exemplar for his dozy defence. Look, and look alive.
He will surely find this semi-final slugfest a stark contrast to the challenge of the physically imposing Malian side in Sunday’s showpiece. For now though, he can delight in the fact his team passed a different sort of test, clawing back a deficit; perhaps it is best that it was faced now, rather than in the final, with everything on the line and nerves to the fore.
One suspects Mali will be a lot less open. Are you sure you are communicating. Just web around yourself. Spare my dictionary |

She was the first ever female aspirant in Apapa constituency, and emerged their first female representative on May 29, 2015. There were over 100 delegates in the primaries before she emerged her party – All Progressive Congress (APC)’s candidate.
The Honourable was reportedly the last ‘single’ legislator in the house before she got married this week. As of May, her and husband John Paul had done their ‘introduction ceremony’, and had gone to the registry, but hadn’t had their Nikkai or engagement.
