Neither was there gun battle in the forest to rescue the abductees going by the account of the army even before the teacher interview.! The army deploy tactical strategies,of course in the course of their rescue its likely some are neutralise (most people-the pessimistic-believes its a Bush thing, with gun.... that's power of intelligence only that it took a long time!

Their release was announced in a post on X on Friday by Bayo Onanuga, spokesman for the Presidency.
“Finally, the kidnapped pupils and teachers in Orire, Oyo, have been freed by their abductors,” Onanuga wrote.

He disclosed that eight members of the kidnapping gang were arrested during the rescue operation and are now in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).

Onanuga said the rescue operation did not involve any exchange or concession to the kidnappers, noting that a notorious gang leader whose release had been demanded by the abductors remains in custody and is being prosecuted for his alleged crimes.

He added that security agencies would provide a full account of the operation soon.

“In the course of the rescue operation, eight of the kidnappers were arrested and are now in DSS custody, while some of them were neutralised.

“There was no quid pro quo in the rescue, as one of the terrorists, a kingpin whose release was demanded by the kidnappers, is being prosecuted for his atrocities. The security agencies will give a full account soon,” he added.

For avoidance of doubt let's distinguish between "Rescued and Released"
In this context, the distinction between "rescued" and "released" is significant:

- Released indicates that the abductors voluntarily set the students and staff free without any outside intervention. This situation would imply that the release occurred without any immediate threat or action from security forces.
So what is he saying-that the security forces where not involved or that no family members of the abductors were arrested in return for their release!
Those arrested were actually privy to the abduction plans and close associate of the terrorist!

That's not the argument being made. The issue isn't whether the "average Nigerian" is good or bad. It's that in a constitutional democracy, citizens and institutions both have responsibilities. Citizens are expected to hold leaders accountable, while the Executive, Legislature, and Judiciary are expected to exercise their constitutional powers responsibly and check one another. When either side fails, democracy weakens.

I checked that claim, and as of now there’s *no official announcement from FGN* on June 18, 2026 raising WAEC/NECO registration to *₦50,000 for 2027*.

Here’s what’s actually out there:

*What the official 2026 fees are*
- *WAEC 2026: ₦27,000*
- *NECO 2026: ₦22,250*
These are the rates WAEC and NECO are using for 2026 registration.

*Where the ₦50,000 figure comes from*
The ₦50,000 you’re hearing is for *NECO certificate reprint*, not for writing the exam.
NECO announced a ₦50,000 fee for reprinting certificates, and NANS has been protesting it. It’s only for people requesting a new copy of their certificate within 1 year of issuance, not for new candidates.

*Any govt increase for 2027?*
No press release, circular, or Federal Ministry of Education statement about a ₦50,000 registration fee starting 2027 shows up.
What states are doing instead is paying fees for students: Taraba paid ₦1.39bn for WAEC, Adamawa released ₦2.4bn, etc. Benue also warned schools not to charge more than ₦5,000 as handling charge for WAEC/NECO.

*So no, FGN has not confirmed ₦50,000 registration fee for WAEC/NECO starting 2027.*

It’s possible what you heard is either:
1. *Rumor/misinformation* mixing up the ₦50k certificate reprint fee with registration fee
2. *Private schools inflating charges* - some charge ₦250k-₦300k which govt has condemned

If FGN does approve an increase, WAEC, NECO, and Federal Ministry of Education usually announce it through official channels and newspapers first.

Despite presenting your TCC, which a lot of people even process behind closed doors with politics at play, so their wards can qualify, your wards may still be dropped. We saw a whole lot of that in alimosho. Im a grassroots person there. We paid a lot of wards waec fees. Im not saying this for anyone to credit me. I'm not even the only one who made this happen.

Which tax will a woman who sweeps compound to feed family afford ? What about those who barely see one square meal per day? What of those who are out of jobs? Who will now be responsible for their wards waec fees just because they have no TCC to present ? Is it not people who work or make money that can pay taxes ? Some people's conscience is dead walahi

All these stories about men or women unable to pay N10k for their wards is a farce if for 3 years they could not save N10k ,while their wards enjoy free tuition from SS1 -SS 3 WAEC inclusive but could muscle resources to buy aso ebi for ceremonies or do other things but choose to downplay the future of their wards!

I deliberately mention WAEC because I don't know government fixes such fees,since it's an approval it's still subjected to review.
For your information,Lagos State and most states bear the cost of WAEC,NECO for their students. It's in concurrent list!
