Jobs/Vacancies › Re: Oil & Gas Certifications That Actually Matter In 2026 (and The Ones That Don’t) by NewHe: 2:56pm On Mar 04 |
qleap2all: Are you tired of throwing your hard-earned money at certifications that don’t really help you land a job in the oil and gas industry? Let’s talk about the certifications that truly matter in 2026—and those that are just a waste of your time and cash.
Every year, countless Nigerians invest in various certifications, believing they’ll be the golden ticket to oil and gas jobs. But here’s a little secret that recruiters often keep to themselves: not all certifications boost your chances of getting hired.
In fact, some are merely cash cows for training centers.
So, which certifications actually hold value? Here’s a quick rundown based on the role you’re aiming for:
- NEBOSH (for those on the HSE pathway) - IOSH Managing Safely - Basic Offshore Safety (BOSIET) - Project Management (depending on the role) - QA/QC Certifications - API-related technical certifications (especially for engineering positions)
Now, let’s talk about the certifications that won’t do you any favors:
Random online safety courses that lack industry recognition Generic diplomas in “Oil & Gas Management” Costly short courses abroad that have no relevance back home
One recruiter put it bluntly: “We don’t hire someone just because they have 12 certificates. We hire based on how well those certificates match a specific role.”
The real takeaway? It’s not about amassing certificates; it’s about strategically aligning them with your career path.
I’ve recently put together a detailed map showing which certifications correspond to various entry routes for Nigerians looking to break into the industry without any connections.
If you’re interested in this structured breakdown, feel free to reach out to me privately! This is real expository. Thank you. |
Jobs/Vacancies › Re: Why "I Don’t Have Connections" Is No Longer A Justifiable Excuse To Get Oil Job by NewHe: 1:44pm On Mar 03 |
qleap2all: For a long time, many Nigerians held onto a common belief about landing jobs in the oil and gas industry:
“If you don’t know someone, you can forget about it.”
However, things are starting to change in the hiring landscape.
Thanks to compliance requirements, international collaborations, and more organized HR practices, many midstream and service companies are now leaning heavily on: Contract staffing agencies Project-based recruitment Competency filtering systems Digital screening platforms
In fact, quite a few successful candidates have made their way into core firms through vendor companies first. What many job seekers often overlook is this crucial point:
Connections might help you get your foot in the door, but it’s your positioning that keeps it open.
Many applicants stumble because: - They apply through the wrong channels. - They don’t fully grasp contractor pathways. - They fail to tailor their CVs with role-specific keywords. - They overlook staffing firms. The oil and gas industry has a clear structure.
And once you understand that structure, you can significantly cut down on the guesswork.
After looking into the entry routes used by recent hires, I’ve put together a structured pathway system that lays it all out step-by-step.
If you’re interested in accessing the complete framework, feel free to reach out to me privately. Sir, this is great information o.You are really giving us rare resource on oil &Gas Sector career #jobs. Thank you |

Jobs/Vacancies › Re: Not Just Engineers: 12 Non-engineering Roles In Oil & Gas With Good Paycheck by NewHe: 2:42pm On Feb 27 |
qleap2all: By Tony Ade
Let’s bust a common myth in Nigeria: oil and gas jobs aren’t just for engineers!
Sure, we often think of Petroleum, Mechanical, and Chemical Engineers when we talk about this industry, but that’s far from the whole story.
There are plenty of non-engineering roles making waves in the sector, including:
- HSE Officer - Procurement Analyst - Logistics Coordinator - Document Control Officer - HR Business Partner - Contracts Administrator - Finance Analyst - Supply Chain Officer - Community Relations Officer - Compliance Officer - Operations Scheduler - Quality Assurance Officer
Many of these positions offer salaries ranging from ₦400k to ₦900k monthly, depending on the company and your rotation schedule.
What’s crucial to understand is that it’s not just about your degree. It’s all about how you leverage your background.
For instance, a Microbiology graduate can easily transition into an HSE role. A Business Administration grad might find a great fit in procurement, while someone with an Accounting degree could step into project finance support.
The oil and gas industry is much more expansive than many Nigerians realize. The secret lies in knowing the right pathways and positioning yourself effectively.
I’ve put together detailed strategies that successful candidates have used to make these transitions. If you’re curious about how to navigate this, feel free to reach out!

grandstar: Not all jobs depend on connections, or the poor would never get jobs.
Many times, companies do want competent and qualified people for jobs, and not just crony based hiring.
Thats why companies only hire those with a 2:1 or higher. Thats why an ICAN or masters can open up for you or how many years of experience.
A class mate of mine who was from an humble background got work in an oil company after graduation. You're correct, remember when I was invited for an aptitude test by Chevron Texaco after NYSC around 2005 ,I tried contacting someone i knew but he said-if I have all what required, I will get in. I study statistics, during interview they were asking for some industry qualifications/certifications ,which I don't have in a compliance role! |
Jobs/Vacancies › Re: From NYSC To ₦750,000 salary How 3 Young Nigerians secure Oil jobs by NewHe: 1:36pm On Feb 24 |
qleap2all: A lot of Nigerian graduates hold a common belief about the oil & gas industry: “If you don’t have connections, you might as well forget it.”
But that story is starting to shift. In the past 18 months, a number of young Nigerians have quietly made their way into the oil & gas sector without any influential backers, without a decade of experience, and without political connections.
Yes, one can get into the oil and gas sector without connection but one must have the right information and expert guide
Take Peter, for instance. He’s a Mechanical Engineering graduate who wrapped up his NYSC in 2023. After 11 months of focused applications and enhancing his certifications, he secured a contract role with a servicing company, raking in over ₦750,000 a month offshore.
Then there’s Ada, who studied Microbiology—not engineering or anything petroleum-related. She’s now thriving in HSE compliance for a midstream firm in Port Harcourt. According to recruiters we chatted with, the key factor wasn’t “connections.”
It was all about positioning. What They Did Differently!
They didn’t just send out a bunch of applications randomly. They didn’t rely on generic CVs.
Instead, they targeted specific companies with clear entry pathways. They grasped the ins and outs of contract opportunities.
They strategically positioned their certifications.
One recruiter pointed out: “Most candidates apply without a plan. The few who understand how hiring really works stand out right away.”
Sure, the oil & gas sector is competitive. But it’s not as out of reach as many people think.
There’s a roadmap available—but most folks are just guessing. After examining successful entry stories and looking at hiring trends across various firms, I’ve put together a practical guide on what truly works for Nigerians aiming to break into the industry today.
If you’re serious about making your mark in oil & gas without relying on luck or connections, feel free to send me a DM. I’d be happy to share more insights! Yes one can get into the oil and gas sector without connection but requires having the right information and expert advice or guide. Thanks, for the enlightenment. |
