Politics › Re: Peter Obi Makes U-turn Over Comments On National Grid, Commends TCN by NewHe: 9:12pm On Jan 12, 2025 |
zero8zero: The presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 polls, Peter Obi, has made a u-turn over his comment on the alleged collapse of the national grid.
Following blackouts experienced in parts of Lagos on Saturday, Obi in a post on X said the incessant fall of the grid which happened 12 times in 2024 has subjected Nigerians to ‘untold setback and hardship.’
He said despite borrowing over $3.23 billion in the last four years to fix its electricity problems, the recurrent occurrences of grid collapse have continued to mar the nation’s power sector.
But he faced backlash from many Nigerians who accused him of not verifying issues before reacting to them.
Obi thereafter reversed his stance, saying his initial comment was based on reports from reputable media platforms.
In a follow-up post on X, Obi said he has learnt that there was no grid collapse following clarifications by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) on the matter.
“Following my earlier message regarding the alleged collapse of the National Grid, which was based on reports from reputable media platforms, I have since learned that there was no such collapse. Instead, the incident involved the tripping of the Osogbo-Ihovbor and Benin-Omotosho lines, which affected the Lagos axis. “I appreciate the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) for their prompt clarification on the matter.
“I sincerely hope we will prioritize enhancing our infrastructure in the power sector and remain committed to improving power generation to meet the growing needs of over 200 million Nigerians.”
Earlier, the TCN clarified that the outage was caused by tripping of the Osogbo-Ihovbor and Benin-Omotosho lines indicating that the claims about grid collapse was fake news.

Angelfrost: Lol... Please, name one top Nigeria Politician who isn't divisive.
Tinubu, Atiku, El-Rufai, etc, are far more divisive than Obi.
Infact, they are actually the people who perfected the "Divide and Rule" approach to national politics which is how they got hold of power in Apc since 2015.
Even Reno spends more time dividing Nigeria on his social media platform than uniting the nation... If you can't see this, then you are either blind or not objective enough.
Personally, I maintain that the focus should be more on those failing so badly in their leadership duties which is what gives room for Obi and his fellow critics to keep dragging them and the nation all over the social space. And what do you think, could be the missing link since the Government has done whats possibly doable and seems we are wining until COAS Lagbaja was poisoned to death? |

PresidObi: Playing politics of where it happens, while neglecting the people who are failing in their responsibilities.
What has Peter Obi speaking about it got to do with the blatant loss of human lives and the lack of care and solution by the Federal government who owns the police and army?
Ronu Mockery should get help from a head doctor. Only a certified psychiatrist can give him clearance if he wants this political appointment this bad. To the people who wants to promote bad news against the south east, your regions will always be worse in reality. Stop the propaganda. That's the truth, the #Obidients refuses to accept, that their Role Model is a divisive person and just playing politics with Nigeria situation refusing to even gather stakeholders in collaboration with Anambra Governor on solving the insecurity in his own region! |
