Am building a bigger pen house for the birds. I cannot give u numbers till I put the standard birds cage in place. They lay between 12 to 15 at most times. I sell 6k. While my own people sell cheaper to people around. Am putting all my skills into the new phase of the local chicken because it's another arm of the poultry. The new cage will take like 100 layers while the local be on their hundreds because people from different section comes for it.
Plain white plain black are in high demand. The management is what am improving now. So we can forecast expectations. It is lucrative
epainos:

The challenge with you is that you don't get your numbers before and during production. Is this not what I have been trying to check? See...its not an issue of meat and eggs no dey scarce for mouth. With layers, I can make even millions per month. Same with broiler. Yes, despite all odds. However, I am interested in this native too. Do you think I will rush into it with getting my numbers right? How much you sell? How many eggs they produce...you have said nothing na. Except you don't keep record and you aren't observant. You should know by now what it takes to make N500k per month. The question is that...is it worth the stress? No need to answer me...I'm just asking a rheotical question I don't need answers to.

If you don't know what it takes to make N500k per month from this native chickens after the time you have spent, then, you really need to evaluate your approach.

Personally, I dont go with...the is lucrative. Maybe to the person. I want to see the numbers and make my decision. If you don't want to share...its OK. One way or the other, I will get what I need. That's me. I always find a way out.

[Why the fowl them come naked wetin happen. Na Agbo Jedi u dey feed them. quote author=Redomi post=129794183]Waooo, I enjoying reading everything from this thread.
I have noilers too, though frizzle feathered I have them since 3 years ago, I saw them inside a carton of noiler I bought from someone on Nairaland, the mother have been laying everyday and not hatching, though I have force it to sit on eggs twice, the first time she managed to hatch 4 of her egg and the second time she hatched two, I had to sell the male crossing it to one guy at 30k, though two of the chicks hatched first time turn to be male, I killed one during last Christmas and I have one left. Two weeks ago I went to market to buy two local hen to help me hatch their eggs, since they all lay everyday and not ready to sit on the eggs. Though I force their mother to sit on the egg on Thursday. The two local hen I bought two weeks ago have started laying.
I feed my noiler anything I see, they eat vegetable leaves, egg shell is their favourite food, I'm also into crop farming, I feed them corn too, though I buy a bag of happy chicken finisher once every month[/quote]
Agriculture / Re: Journey On My Local Chicken Production by newoffer: 3:24pm On May 05
Check online. If u want to succeed in this poultry business you must be around. Have other side hustles within your area. That way u can real heavily. U think if I make 500k per month from this I will go and answer yes sir some where u know they won't give u time for yourself. Egg and meat no dey scarce for mouth.
epainos:

Hahaha. The heat of manure will incubate them. grin
Agriculture / Re: Journey On My Local Chicken Production by newoffer: 3:00pm On May 05
If u can incubate very good for you. Or just pick up eggs and add to mature hen to hatch
epainos:

Interesting.

I will need to see the FCR of the whole process. Free range is the solution....but thieves around the neighbourhood is the challenge, if not, one needs to get food for them.

A very good approach is to grow poultry lawn and grasses. There are seeds mixture for chickens...then produce bugs for them. Villagers give them corn/sorghum/millet shaft also.

I have a question. Let's say I have 50 hens (females) with some cocks. Tell me...how many eggs can I get weekly if I do not allow them to brood the eggs? Their jobs is to job lay eggs....I collect the eggs and incubate in an incubator.

Tell me, how do you make the lay more and more eggs?
Agriculture / Re: Journey On My Local Chicken Production by newoffer: 11:40am On May 05
Na this formula na him I dey run now. I need lots of birds. Cheap grains and restaurants remnant that's how I feed them.
marhoinspire:
Sometimes in October I concluded that I want to venture into local chicken production.
So many factors made me choose this path
1. Low cost of feeding
2: low mortality rate, etc.

I started with 3 hens and 1 cock

As at today I have 26 local chicken

They would have been more if I did separate the chicks from the mother hen on time.

What I do now, when the hen hatch, I give her 2 weeks to raise the chicks, then I separate her from the chicks, in less than two weeks, they usually go back laying eggs.

Will keep updating on progress made

There is gold in it brother. I want to sell some of my stock on the exchange and face it squarely. It is business that is lucrative if you have channels to source cheap feeds.we will succeed . What is my stock doing that birds can do for me..
epainos:

I am not condemning you bro. A man who views issues using his own instincts alone without listening to others might miss out. I am trying to tap into your wisdom. Don't look at me like hey....layers are cool, native na wash...Nope. There must be something in this thing that is making you go for it. And I want to learn

If you can sell it for 6k upwards, that's a good deal. Please bro...I just want to learn and I might ask strange questions. Just pardon me. A beg. I get more excited that you can sell at N6k upward. Not bad at all.

I know you said people don't like broilers, and I disagreed previous. But after checking it out again, I think I have heard such too...and I won't dispute it further. However, there is something to unravel.

Just pardon me. Let's say someone gives you the contract to sell broilers of 3kg along with your native chicken, do you see a way out? How much would you propose to sell 1 broiler? Sure, you aren't producing the broilers, but you will pick then up and just sell in addition to your native birds.

To be honest, which will move more? What about quail birds? What do you think?

@marhoinspire... abeg, no VEX bro. I am just trying to see another view and style of chicken business. Personally, I am thrilled that you guys can sell native chickens. I produce quail birds for personal consumption and I have not thought of how to sell the birds or the eggs....but when I saw this thread.....my heart goes to quail, noilers, kuroilers, native chickens, etc. There may be gold there. This is why I am trying to figure out how you guys are doing it. Marketing and Sales are two areas that interest me so much.

APC are definitely high on some weed. This is how they caused a lot of hardship during covid when they stock warehouse with goods masses need to buy. Prices went up and fools didn't have any clue on how to stabilize prices of goods. Lagos State Govt stop sharing food like we are Almajiri. Use that fund to create farms in cities so cost of goods can come down. Sharing food like war torn region is not sustainable.

I have few layer birds. For the local you have to lodge the baby birds after birth. Each hen gives you minimum 12 chicks. So most of the feeds I create is for those native chicks. I feed them so they can be fit before I let them eat. Brother we have different dimensions in this business. Am sourcing canteen waste to feed this guy's. In space of two weeks the mother hen is out laying again. Soon I will show my workings here. The profits in native fowl is slow but u will have lots of numbers. Well am cross breeding them . Before I get to the fourth stage I would have gotten something good. I sell the natives from 6k upward. I get feeds from my homies who are into food business. Every two weeks I get like a full bag of mixed corn millet n other stuffs.
epainos:

Saying most people don't like broilers is not accurate. Broiler's breast is lean meat. You can easily remove the fat in it. Thigh and drumstick don't have fat. You can easily remove the fat. Or you boil it and put the water in a freezer....scrape the fat off it and that's it.

It is OK if you cannot feed 200 layers, if it is 25 you can feed, it is OK. 25 will give you like 15 to 20 crates in a month. And you can easily retail it at N200 each. That's like N110,000 sales. Why should you do what you want afford. Even it is 10. It is OK. Retail it. Steady money will come in.

But still I am trying to understand the profit in this you are doing. How much do you sell each? I am trying to see if waiting for more than 8 months is really worth it.

Time is money. If you can roll money fast, why not?

If it makes sense to do 25 layers only and retail it, perhaps you van raise money from your next sales. 9 months waiting period to not sell something substantial ....does it really worth it?

Please, how much do you sell each?

Right now . It is how much birds you can get in a limited time that matters..Most people don't like Broilers. My client like local breed because of its lean meat and less cholesterol and fats in it's meats. 8 month minimum cos u have to feed them always. I cannot afford to feed 200 birds of layers when me gan never chop. I have friends who gives me chaff and seeds from their stores. We blend it. I pick feeds from few friends who does alot of food business.

I am trying to understand how 200 chickens in six months that will take many months to attain 1.5kg is profitable. Like how much do you sell each chicken when they matured? And how long does it take...10 months or more?

U need to have atleast ten laying area where your birds can go and lay. If not they will just lay around. Your gain is in the amount of times your hen lay. Keeping them till they are fit is another way to make profit Keeping them indoor will save you a lot . The issue of hawk picking of hen will not be there. The cycle will be 4 times a year. Each hen will do atleast 40 per year.Am just coming back from my parent place. That's my formula now. I don't do this agric shit. Let them hatch and do the recycling over and over. In space of 6 month u will get 200 hen. Just create where to lay for them
