Crime / PHOTOS: RRS Nabs "Legion Officer" For Stealing Motorcycles by Newshelmboss(m): 4:06pm On Aug 21, 2016
Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a legionnaire impersonating official of the Lagos State Taskforce on Special Offences to rob motorcycle riders popularly called "Okada" in Agege and its environs.

The suspect, Umam Hrmid, 48, from Borno, a 2LT of Nigerian Legion, Lagos State Command, was arrested on Friday evening at about 10:30 p.m. by RRS operatives in Agege after dispossessing one Amin Al–Hassan of his motorcycle.

The suspect who was working with his accomplice, Tijani Bashir, now at large, had accosted his victim, Al–Hassan, at Total Filling Station, Agege and told him that he was a policeman attached to the Lagos State Taskforce on Special Offences.

He told his victim that he was impounding his motor cycle for plying restricted area and for operating at prohibited hour.

Bewildered, Al–Hassan began to plead for negotiation but Hrmid told him to bring N20, 000:00 but the victim could only produce N5,000:00, which the suspect rejected.

“When he refused to accept the N5,000:00, he mounted the bike and rode it towards Iyana Ipaja. I begged him but he told me to get down from the bike because I sat behind him while his partner rode the bike they brought”, Al–Hassan explained.

He continue that “he rode through Agbotikuyo, Agege. At Mulero, I forced the bike to a stop by removing its key from the ignition, and I got down.... We were arguing when two passers-by joined us and they requested for his identity card when he told them that he was a policeman with the Lagos State Taskforce.... Reluctantly, he flashed his ID card before them but one of them was so swift to snatch it from him. Then, he began to chase the guy, who quickly ran towards RRS patrol team nearby who arrested him and collected the dagger he was holding."

At the RRS's Headquarters, three other victims from whom Hrmid had collected bikes weeks before he was caught on Wednesday, came with particulars of their bikes, alleging that Hrmid, along with an accomplice, whom they described took their bikes.

The victims, Shuaib, Abdullahi, Umaru Hassan and Salisu Umaru, stated that the suspect collected their motor cycles in a spate of three weeks, and that one his victims was shot at a close range in the cheek at Shoretire Street, Agege.

One of the victims, Shuaib Abdullahi explained that the suspect at around 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday last week, took his bike, FKJ 259 QA, Boxer model, from him, under the pretext that he was taking him to Taskforce Office.

"He drove me to Ile–Zik before threatening me to get down or he would kill him at the deserted place. I requested for his number and he gave me a fake number. I called the number immediately he left but the number didn't go.... I learnt he was arrested yesterday, that was why we came to RRS to collect our okada from him," he said.

The suspect, however, failed to deny the allegations of the three other victims when they confronted him.

Speaking on the development, the Police PPRO, SP, Dolapo Badmos confirmed the arrest of the suspect, stressing that his arrest might help shed more light on reported cases of motor cycles theft in Agege and its environs. The suspect has been transferred to Specail Anti-Robbery Squad(SARS) for further investigations.

The Federal Government is doing everything possible to secure the release of the Chibok girls and put an end to the horrible saga of their abduction.

Politics / Those Who Burnt INEC Office Are Afraid Of Elections -governor Wike by Newshelmboss(m): 11:22am On Jul 23, 2016
Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has stated that those who burnt the Bori office of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, are the same politicians who wrote to INEC seeking postponement of the rerun elections on the ground of security.

Addressing journalists after inspecting the burnt section of INEC Khana Local Government Office in Bori, Governor Wike said the arson should not serve as an excuse for the elections to the postponed.

The governor regretted that politicians who are afraid of the rerun elections would go to the extent of burning down public facility to convince INEC that the rerun elections should be shifted.

He noted that no election materials have been deposited at the office, pointing out that the burnt section only serve as a hall for collation
He said: "Those who burnt this office were not ready for the elections. They don't want INEC to conduct the elections because they know that they don't have the chances of winning.

"They want to use the issue of security to justify the request for postponement. If not, INEC has not brought election materials to this office. What they have done is to scare INEC. "
He added: "For us, we are not surprised. We know this is what they have planned to do."

He advised INEC not to be deterred by the arson. He noted that the commission should go ahead with the elections as scheduled.

The governor directed the security agencies to fish out the perpetrators of the crime. He advised politicians not to see elections as a do or die affair, saying that they must submit themselves to the will of the people.

He said: "We will make sure that this does not dampen the spirit of INEC. I have directed the Caretaker Committee Chairman of the Local Government Area to immediately rebuild the burnt office".

The governor said that the state government will provide an alternative office for INEC to conduct the July 30 elections in the area. He said the people have been duly mobilised and they are ready to cast their votes.

Earlier, the Khana Divisional Police Officer, Stephen Okunade said there was no security at the INEC office at the time of the arson. He said the lone private security guard was absent when the perpetrators struck.

He added that the private guard who has been detained only returned while the office was burning.
The governor was accompanied on the visit by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr Uche Anozie and top government functionaries.

Politics / We Shall Declare Niger Delta A Republic On August 1 – Militants by Newshelmboss(m): 6:47pm On Jul 19, 2016
A Niger Delta militant group has declared that all South Westerners in the area should vacate its soil on or before August 1.

The militant group under the aegis of Adaka Boro Avengers (ABA) said it has rallied the support of other militant groups in the region towards declaring Niger Delta a republic on August 1.

The militant group also issued an ultimatum to the Federal Government to withdraw its personnel from the Niger Delta region before the set date.

The militant group in a statement signed by its spokesperson, General Edmos Ayayeibo urged the Federal Government to judiciously make use of the three weeks notice to withdraw all government agencies, threatening that failure will lead to destruction of military barracks and personnel.

“We, the Adaka Boro Avengers and all the freedom fighters in the Niger Delta region have met and come to a conclusion that we are declaring the Niger Delta a Republic three weeks from today July 18, 2016.

“So we are by this notice calling on the Nigerian government to move out all military personnel and all government agencies out of the Niger Delta. Failure will lead to destruction of military barracks and personnel.

“We are also by this notice calling on our fathers, mothers, brothers and sisters living in the northern parts of Nigeria to return home immediately.

“We are also warning northerners and westerners to leave the Niger Delta region immediately within three weeks from now, for their own good.

“If they refuse to heed to our warning, we will use so many as example in the Niger Delta region on the due date.

“We are telling the Nigerian government that enough is enough and we are taking our independence by force. We have our foreign backers, so we are not afraid of the Nigerian government but ready for total war.

“The inhuman treatment given to us by Nigerian government is enough. We can no longer withstand the suffering of our Niger Delta people. They should not take us for fools”.
