Five suspects were arrested for the gang-rape of two girls as they allegedly also videotaped the crime scene and posted it on social media to further debase their victims.

The alleged rapists are identified as Olabanji Femi, Abiodun Ayodele, Fadairo Wahab, Bode Akinsiku and Adedayo Adebayo.

Sunday Vanguard learnt that the suspects, now in prison custody, tortured the girls before they were gang-raped and mindlessly invited some other men to have sex with the girls.

Notable personalities in the town, including the Osemawe of Ondo, Oba Victor Kiladejo, have condemned the act while traditionalists in the town rose to appease the gods of the land for the abomination.

Police sources said the suspects, during interrogation, alleged that the girls stole from one of them after they were invited for a party.

As a punishment, the suspects were said to have decided to torture, gang- rape and videotape the scene and posted the recording on the social media.

Meanwhile, according to the sources, the girls denied the allegation of theft levelled against them by the suspects.Four girls had been reportedly lured to a party at the residence of one of the suspects. All of the four turned up but two sensed danger and left almost immediately. The two girls, who stayed, it was gathered, were the ones who allegedly became victims of the alleged inhuman treatment by the suspects.

In a statement to the police, the victims denied stealing from any of the suspects, saying they were invited to a party organised by the daughter of one of the suspects and that, on getting there, they discovered that it was a trap to get back at them for turning down sexual advances from members of a group in the town.One of them disclosed that after the five men took turns to rape them, they invited their friends by phone to come and “eat free meal”.

According to her, the suspects accused them of refusing the sexual advances of their group members while sleeping with less important group members in the town hence the need to disgrace them by posting the recording on the social media.The victims said they could barely walk thereafter because of what the suspects did to them, pointing out that they were equally flogged and tortured.

One of them said, “They stripped us naked, seized our clothes and recorded the rape scene. They threatened to take us to the street naked.“They lured us to the area around noon, held us hostage for several hours during which they did all that pleased them with us.

They freed us in the evening and we reported the matter to one of my brothers who vowed to get the video and report the matter to the police.“Though family members of the suspects begged us and promised to pay us huge sums of money for the rape and torture we were subjected to, my brother got the video recording and reported the matter to the police”.

The brother of the victim who reported the alleged rape to the police (name withheld) told Sunday Vanguard that, following the suspects’ arrest, he had been receiving threat messages allegedly from the suspects’ backers.He, however, said that he was ready to testify against the suspects in court, adding that he had the video recording of the rape scene.

Ondo State Police Command corroborated the victim’s brother’s claim when it alleged that some powerful individuals were making efforts to frustrate the matter by threatening witnesses.Command spokesperson Femi Joseph confirmed the pressure from powerful groups in the town.“We are facing a lot of pressure on the matter”, he told Sunday Vanguard.

Joseph said that some “powerful forces in the town” were doing everything possible to frustrate the case “but the command is determined to get justice for the raped girls”.“They have tried so much to kill the case but we did not allow that. Now they are working behind the scenes to ensure that they (victims) don’t come to court with the hope that if they don’t come to court, the case would die a natural death”, he added.

“But we assure that the case will be prosecuted and the girls will be adequately protected to ensure that they are present in court. We will ensure their presence in court at the next date of adjournment.“The girls are not in police custody but safe.“They have been deliberately taken away from the public glare so as not to be accessible to the people who are pressurising them.“The girls are not missing.

We are facing a lot of pressure on their matter, but, on our part, we are assuring of their safety, nothing will happen to them. This is a case of national interest and we need them to diligently prosecute the case”.

Meanwhile, traditionalists in Ondo, last week, sealed off the gang-rape suspects’ houses in the town.The development, it was learnt, was to appease the gods over the alleged abominable act.

No fewer than two persons were allegedly killed in the early hours of Saturday in Asaba community, Delta state over land dispute.



It was gathered that the problem of land speculations in Asaba said to be a thing of the past, has resurfaced, particularly among youths from UMuezeafadia and umuaJi villages who allegedly attack one another in fierce gun battle.

It was further gathered that the victims were allegedly killed in the part of umuezeafadia village following claims, and counter claims of land Ownership.

The victims, Godfrey Nwadiefe and Dumebi Nnekadi were allegedly killed over the land dispute between the two villages (Umuezeafadia, Umuaji).



But the police spokesman in the state, DSP Andrew Aniamaka who confirmed the incident to DAILY POST, said, ” A special Tactical Squad is handling the issues. The section is headed by a commissioner of police in charge of PMF ,force headquarters, Abuja and supervised by a Deputy Inspector General of police ,DIG,in charge of operations. We moved into the situation and arrested some of the youths, and handed them over to Special Tactical Squad for further investigation ”

We gathered that trouble resurfaced few months ago when one Isioma was confronted by fellow youths over his alleged land deals, a situation he was said to have contacted the leader of IGP Special Tactical Squad, and allegedly mobilized the police to harass opposition youths.

Family sources hinted that for the squad to storm Asaba, and clip the wings of the perceived opponents of the said Isioma, huge sums of money was allegedly exchanged hands

According to informed sources, as soon as the policemen were allegedly settled, the STS officers including one Inspector Udofia were said to have stormed Zone 5 Benin city in Edo state, and took away a petition lodged against Isioma, leaving the Delta state police Command in the Dark, and the police officers allegedly executed their “deal” and returned back to Abuja .

But in a swift reaction, All allegations against me are not true, the youths on the other side were oppressing me in my land, and I have discovered they have the police here, then I approached higher authorities, now they are running.”

Further investigation revealed that after the petition was taken away by the policemen who came from Abuja, some of the youths from Umuaj village who are seen as rivals, were arrested, and subsequently detained at force headquarters Abuja, while others took to their heels and abandoned the village for safety.



one of the officers of STS, DSp Danlandi Muhammad said, ” We are assigned to investigate the troubles in both villages, and our own is to do our job, and we never took sides. It is not true money exchanged hands, from anywhere. The Asaba youths are too engrossed in land dispute. “

Popular singer, Iledare Oluwajuwonlo, aka Jaywon, has opened up on why men of Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, invaded his birthday celebration in Lekki, Lagos.


Reports emerged on social media that the singer’s house at Lekki, Lagos State was invaded as he wined and dined with his music colleagues.

There are also viral videos showing SARS officials disrupting and causing havoc in the house party.


However, Jaywon told Punch that contrary to reports, SARS came for his media friend who had issues with them.

He said, “It was a media friend that had issues with them. After identifying himself, they still wanted to take him away. I was upstairs when my attention was called to the incident and I quickly came down.”

The singer further stated that he didn’t want them to take the victim away because he was afraid it could turn to a different story once they left the venue.


He said, “You know police will want to harass and threaten you with their guns. We all came together and made sure they didn’t leave the place with the guy. I actually don’t know what the journalist did to them but it created a lot of noise and drama.

“I had the party in a private house and I had promised them we would not make any noise. I was not happy with the way things ended because it was supposed to be a quiet party. I visited two motherless babies’ homes that same day and I wanted my birthday to be about that.”

“I still tweeted about the operation of SARS some days ago. Arresting people has become a business venture right now. They know that once they arrest you, you will give them money. It is getting frustrating and no one is doing anything about it.

“It is so bad on Lagos Island now, Lekki precisely. We were much; so, there was no way the four of them could attack us. We cannot be giving them money every time.

”If people keep giving them money, they will never stop harassing people. It was obvious that they wanted money, but I was not ready to give anyone money,”

Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, has urged teachers to ensure they were qualified, licensed and registered before 2019 or be flushed out of the classrooms.

Adamu gave the warning while monitoring the 2018 Batch A Teacher Professional Qualifying Examination (PQE) in Abuja on Saturday.

‎No fewer than 22,000 would-be teachers sat for the Computer Based Teachers PQE nationwide scheduled to hold from June 7 to 9. ‎

Adamu, represented by Mr Sonny Echono, the Permanent Secretary, stressed that if teachers were not qualified and properly equipped, the products who are the students would also fall short and ultimately the country will suffer.

“The person at the centre of it all is the teacher, not the pupils and if the teachers are not qualified and properly equipped then how can they give our children the best.
‎“So ‎as a government we are insisting that we must raise the standards; we must become like other countries of the world.

“‎We have set a deadline for ourselves and we are going to enforce it.

“If by 2019 you are not a qualified, certified and registered teacher, you will be removed from our classrooms and we will give the job ‎ to those who are qualified.

“It is an embarrassment to us that we have so many qualified people without job and we are given the job to people who are not qualified. It is insane‎.

‎”In the past, we did not have the right numbers, so we appreciate that those not qualified helped us to meet that shortfall, that is why we have given this time of grace,” he said.

‎He urged the teachers to continue to improv‎e themselves while their employers would do their part to continue to train an retrain them.

The minister noted that some people were opposing the use of computer based test, which he said was not going to be scrapped.

According to him, all over the world, even primary school pupils are using tablets and devices.‎

Adamu said that the world was not going to wait for Nigeria, calling on everyone to be vanguards ‎of upgrading the standards in schools.

Since Chief Olusegun Obasanjo declared in his State-of-the-Nation Special Statement on January 23, 2018, the desperation to frustrate, intimidate and blackmail him into abandoning his divine mandate to protect the rights of the people to better life and living continued unabatedly and has even taken a bizarre dimension.

Impeccable security sources have informed Chief Obasanjo of the emergence of his name on their Watch List and that the security of his life cannot be guaranteed.

According to these informants, many of who are in the top echelon of the Nation’s security management and close to the corridors of power, the operatives are daily perfecting how to curtail the personal liberties of the former President and hang a crime on him.

Ordinarily, we would not have dignified these reports with a response but for the fact that many of these informants are not known for flippant and frivolous talks.

Secondly, this Government has demonstrably exhibited apathy, and in some cases, encouraged by its conduct, daily loss of lives and property in many States of the country, the office cannot be indifferent.

We are currently in Nation where the Number three citizen is currently being harangued and the Number four citizen is facing similar threat within the same Government they serve.

There is a groundswell of our nationals that live in fear that they could be hounded, harassed, maimed or even killed as the battle for 2019 takes this worrisome dimension.

For Chief Obasanjo, this is a joke carried too far and being someone who do not act on unofficial information, he had cautioned all informants and adopted a wait-and-see attitude to the bestial propositions allegedly being contemplated to cow, cage and embarrass him.

The content of the alleged beastly designs, it was learnt are two-fold for now. One, to seize his international passport and clamp him into detention indefinitely, in order to prevent him from further expressing angst on the pervasive mediocrity in the quality of governance, economic management and in the protection of lives and property by the Government. But, since that could expose the Government to a swath of international condemnation, embarrassment and outrage, it is said that another plot being hatched is to cause the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to re-open investigation into the activities of Chief Obasanjo’s administration using false witnesses and documents.

This will be a re-enactment of the Abacha era in which Chief Obasanjo was one of the principal victims.

The same EFCC that had conducted a clinical investigation on the activities of Obasanjo in and out of Government, it was said, would now be made to stand down the existing report that gave Chief Obasanjo a clean bill of health on the probes are now to get him, indicted, fair or foul for possible prosecution and persecution like it is being done to real and perceived opponents, enemies and critics of this Government.

Dissent is a fundamental principle on which liberal democracy is predicated. A true democrat must be ready to live with and accommodate dissent and opposition.

While it is regrettable how the Government has sunk in its shameless desperation to cow opposition, a resort to blackmail, despotism and Gestapo-tactics being employed by the goons of this Government would not hold water. And no government ever remains in power forever.

For the record, Chief Obasanjo reiterates his readiness to face probe again after that of the House of Representatives, the Senate, the ICPC, and the EFCC, but before an independent, objective and credible panel of enquiry to account for his stewardship in Government and beyond.

Chief Obasanjo reiterates that he has taken a principled position to ensure that the ship of the Nigerian State does not capsize and he remains steadfast in his resolve to turn the tide of maladministration, poor economic management and rudderless governance model that has tore Nigerians apart on account of religion and ethnicity which is a great threat to our democracy.

We would like the Government and its supporters to understand that no amount campaign of calumny, no matter how well contrived, orchestrated or marketed would deter Chief Obasanjo from calling a spade by its name.

Chief Obasanjo is a patriot whose sole agenda is to ensure that the country’s unity, progress and democracy are not negotiated on the altar of incompetence and provincialism and mediocrity.

It is important to point out that chief Obasanjo is one former President and Head of State who has engaged the current administration privately and in a bilateral manner on several issues of direct interest to the government and other matters of national concern.

That channel of private engagement remains open and continues. However, should there be the need for public engagement, the right to free speech will always be exercised and jealously guarded, again in the best interest of Nigeria and the government.

Simba Chikore, the son-in-law of former Zimbabwean president, Robert Mugabe was on Thursday arrested by the police on allegations of kidnapping his lawyer following an argument involving a labour dispute.



Chief police spokeswoman, Senior Assistant Commissioner, Charity Charamba, confirmed the developments to Bulawayo24 on Thursday. “He was picked up today (Thursday) and a warned and caution statement was recorded following a report by his lawyer for kidnapping,” she said.



According to her, as at last night Chikore was still assisting police with investigations at Highlands Police Station who were still gathering details of the case.



Snr Asst Comm Charamba said information they had gathered so far was that Chikore was having labour disputes with his lawyer.
