Following the recent attacks that claimed the lives of scores of people in some communities in Plateau State, Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo on Monday advised stakeholders in Plateau State not to allow religious crisis to occur in the country, saying no country in the world has ever survived a religious crisis.

It would be recalled that scores of people were at the weekend killed and property worth millions of Naira destroyed in some communities in the State.


But while addressing Stakeholders from the communities affected by the attacks at the weekend in Jos, the VP said, “We must not allow in this country a religious crisis that becomes uncontrollable, and if this sort of things continue to happen, we will have the kind of crisis that no country in the world has ever survived,” he advised.

“So I want to urge all the leaders to show more restraint especially in what we say.

“Nobody can survive a religious war, so I want to urge everyone of us to exercise some restraint, by being as civil as possible, even in the way that we engage as we go forward.

“It is the responsibility of each and everyone of us especially leadership of the communities to ensure that we are able to bring about the situation of lasting peace.


“We must make sure that we don’t allow anybody get away with that sort of killing.

“Unless we seize the moment to ensure that this is not allowed to continue, we may have greater problems in our hands.

“I know already the Inspector General of Police has deployed men, and today the Chief of Defense Staff has also communicated to the President that he has deployed Special Forces here, that is the military, to ensure that there is peace, to complement the efforts of the Operation Safe Haven.

In his welcome remarks, Governor Simon Lalong, sued for calm among the citizenry.


Lalong said he was surprised and disappointed when he heard about the Berom/Fulani incident because of the efforts both sides have put in place to ensure lasting peace in their communities.

“If I said I’m disappointed about what happened, it’s an understatement, because they set the road-map for peace in this State,” he explained.

Argentina coach, Jorge Sampaoli has said he expects captain Lionel Messi to touch the ball more against Nigeria on Tuesday.

The South Americans are on the brink of an early exit, after picking only one point from their two matches.

Messi has failed to shine in Russia so far, as he is yet to score or provide an assist.

But Sampaoli has explained why his star player did not perform against Croatia.

“I think that [Croatia] match was complicated for Leo, he didn’t get enough balls from the midfield. Argentina didn’t dominate like we did against Iceland.

“For the good of Argentina, I’m sure Messi will touch the ball more against Nigeria,” Sampaoli told a media conference on Monday.

Head coach of the Super Eagles, Gernot Rohr, is considering leaving Victor Moses out of his starting XI, for their final Group D clash with Argentina.

Nigeria only need to avoid defeat, to qualify for the round of 16 and hope Croatia beat Iceland in the group’s decisive encounters on Tuesday. Both matches will be played concurrently.

Ahead of the game, Rohr is worried by Moses’ attitude, as the Chelsea player has failed to play a pivotal role at the tournament.

For the second Group D game against Iceland, Rohr was forced to switch to a 3-5-2 formation, with Moses playing as a wingback and captain John Mikel Obi dropping deep in midfield.

But Moses apparently did not like the decision that restricted him from “expressing his talent”.

Although Rohr told reporters afterwards that he was satisfied with the player’s display against Iceland, but he showed his frustration during the match, with Moses strolling back after misplacing a pass or losing the ball.

The Guardian also claims that Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President, Amaju Pinnick and many other dignitaries had to go to the dressing room, to specifically convince Moses to play in the role before the game.

The much awaited affirmation of the preferred candidate for the position of National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress held on Saturday.

Chairman of the APC National Convention Planning Committee, Abubakar Badaru, who presided over the convention, announced that Adams Oshiomhole was the only person contesting the position of national chairman.


He said, “Adams Oshiomhole has been returned unopposed for the position of national chairman, there will be no election. So, I will ask you if you affirm him as chairman, you answer ‘affirm’ or say ‘aye’ when I ask for affirmation.”

Badaru then asked the delegates if they would affirm Oshiomhole as the party’s national chairman and they all chorused “affirmed.” He then announced the former Edo State Governor as returned unopposed.

None of Oshiomhole’s former opponents was sighted near the stage when Badaru made the announcement.


Three persons namely: Prof. Osareimen Osunbor, Clement Ebri and Ibrahim Emokpai, who earlier expressed interest in contesting against Oshiomhole, pulled out of the race before the convention.

Authorities in Seychelles have opened a criminal investigation into the multi-million dollar assets which Senate President Bukola Saraki and his wife, Toyin, are believed to hold through offshore shell companies in tax havens, can report.

Bukola and Toyin Saraki are being targeted by financial intelligence operatives for their “suspicious” use of offshore shell companies as uncovered in the Panama Papers investigation published in 2016, according to new records obtained by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists and shared with other partners.

Investigators at the Seychelles Financial Intelligence Unit said they are interested in determining whether or not Mrs Saraki stood as a front for her husband in the ownership of some of the offshore holdings linked to the family when a trove of offshore assets managed by Panamanian law firm, Mossack Fonseca, was leaked to the media.

The investigators are also working to determine if the transactions undertaken with the shell companies were used to launder funds or carry out other suspicious activities.

Two weeks after the Sarakis were exposed as owning undeclared offshore assets in violation of Nigeria’s code of conduct regulations, detectives from that country’s FIU asked Mossack Fonseca to furnish them with all documents relating to Sandon Developments Ltd, a firm registered in Seychelles under Toyin Saraki’s name.



Mossack Fonseca responded to the request on April 29, 2019, by forwarding a link to the article on the Panama Papers as well as all documents relating to Sandon Ltd, including international passports and business activities.

The status of the investigation, however remained unclear as there is no record of any update about it since Mossack Fonseca responded to the authorities’ requests at the end of April 2016.
