Aisha Buhari, the wife of President Muhammadu Buhari has re-assured Nigerians that the President will use his second term to consolidate his previous campaign promises of securing the nation, growing the economy and fighting corruption.

Specifically, she said the president would alleviate poverty by closing the gap between the rich and the poor. Aisha said this on Saturday during a dinner organized by her at the State House Conference Center in Abuja, to celebrate the president’s victory. She also thanked the women and youths for their support throughout the election period.

“I wish I can invite all the 15 million Nigerians that voted for Mr President to this dinner, but no place can accommodate you all. So, let me say thank you and assure you that you made the right choice,” she was quoted as saying in a statement signed by her spokesperson, Suleiman Haruna.

“Specifically, I wish to express my appreciation to the women and youth presidential campaign team that I initiated to complement the efforts of the APC Presidential Campaign Council.

“As you all know by now, the aim of setting up the team was to get women and youth, who form the majority of the electorate, involved in all the campaign activities across the country,” she said.

You want what’s best for your heart. And it’s simpler than you might think. These lifestyle changes can help prevent a heart attack and heart disease.

1) Eat to be your best.

Add plenty of fruits and veggies, grains, and foods high in omega-3 fatty acids like fresh tuna or herring to your diet. Cut down on salt, saturated fats, sweets, and red meats. Avoid trans fats and food with “hydrogenated” or “partially hydrogenated” ingredients. Variety in your diet is a good way to get all the nutrients you need.

2) Take it easy.

Find a relaxation method that works for you. Yoga, meditation, dedicated time to unwind after work -- these can help keep your stress levels down. Stressful emotions such as anger and hostility may also lead to heart attack risk, so keep calm and be cool.

3) Ban smoking.

If you never started smoking, that’s perfect! If you already quit, excellent. If you still smoke, stop. Talk to your doctor to find out what method will work best for you. Even people who smoke fewer than five cigarettes a day can have early signs of heart disease. Start now. In just 1 year you can reduce your risk of a heart attack.

4) Keep tabs on your blood pressure.

If it’s too high, your risk of a heart attack and heart disease goes up. Stress management, a healthy diet, and regular exercise can help you manage your blood pressure. Your doctor may also prescribe medications to lower your levels.

5) Mind your blood sugar.

Too much sugar in your blood can damage your arteries. This happens with prediabetes as well as diabetes. Work with your doctor to control your blood sugar levels. That may lower your chance of having a heart attack or stroke. Remember, you can’t tell if you have diabetes (or high blood pressure, or high cholesterol) based on how you feel.

6) Be smart about cholesterol.

When blood flows through your blood vessels, it can drop traces of cholesterol, fat, and calcium, creating a buildup of plaque in your arteries. Too much of that plaque makes a heart attack more likely. If you don’t know your cholesterol levels, ask your doctor for a blood test.

Keep in mind, there are two kinds of cholesterol. One called LDL is bad for your heart. The other, HDL, can help protect you from heart disease. You can improve your levels with exercise and a diet low in unhealthy fats. Some people may also need to take medicine that lowers cholesterol.

7) Check your weight.

If you have extra pounds, it can put your heart at risk. Exercise and a good diet help. Ask your doctor or a dietitian what your weight should be and how to get there.

Be social.

Stay in touch with your friends and family. Research shows that people with more social support are less prone to heart trouble. As you grow your network and make new friends, know that you might be good for their heart health, too.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano state has defeated People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the Saturday Presidential and National Assembly election in Madobi local government area of Kano state.


NAN reports that Madobi is the local government area of Sen. Rabi’u Kwankwaso, the Senator representing Kano Central Senatorial zone.

Dr Sani Umar, the returning officer for the local government, made the announcement on Sunday at Madobi.

He said that the APC Presidential candidate secured 26,110 to defeat PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar who got 13,113 votes.

Similarly, Prof. Mansir Umar-Bindawa, the returning officer who announced the National Assembly elections result, said the APC candidate for Kano Central Senatorial candidate, secured 22,731 while PDP Senatorial candidate got 15,524 votes in the local government.

According to Umar-Bindawa, the APC House of Representatives candidate defeated his PDP counterpart with 22,100 votes as against 15,925 votes.

Similarly, INEC has declared the APC Presidential candidate as winner of Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State.

INEC returning officer, Dr Mohammed Murtala, who announced the result, said Buhari scored 19,984 to defeat Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the PDP who polled 7,732 votes.

Murtala also announced APC as winner of the Kano North Senatorial zone with 16,794 votes as against PDP’s 10,746 and PRP’s 397 votes.

The returning officer for the Presidential election in Garin Malam Local Government Area, Prof. Dahiru Sani-Shuaibu, said APC scored 23,810 against PDP’s 4,861 votes.

Dr Umar Abbas, the returning officer for the Senate in Garin Malam Local Government, said APC’s Senatorial candidate for Kano South Senatorial zone scored 18,412 while PDP candidate scored 8,548 votes.

Abbas also declared APC House of Representatives’ candidate after polling 18, 029 to defeat PDP’s candidate who scored 8,262 votes.

In Yobe, the APC scored 12,227 votes against PDP’s 325 votes in the presidential election in Gujba local government area of the state.

Dr Madu Gadaka, Collation Officer of the local government while presenting the election results on Sunday, said a total of 13,526 votes were cast, out of which APC garnered 12,227 and PDP scored 325 while 635 votes were rejected.

Prof. Abubakar Gundiri, Presidential collation officer in Yobe, asked agents of the parties if their records tally with the submission made by local government collation officer.

Dr Zaji Bunu, APC agent and Dr Abdu Bulama of PDP both agreed with the figures submitted as true copy of the election results. (NAN)
