AutosRe: Views From Range Rover Hse/vogue Or Sport Users And Dealers by newvision: 4:42pm On Mar 02, 2010
Had an 4.4 HSE sports for about 2 years, not really a technical person, just someone that enjoys the ride as is, one thing i can say though that they are not very reliable cars, one problem after the other, from injection to electricals, to the weight on the tyres, they should probably consider a recall

Depends on the quantity you want, but you will be looking at around 800 naira per watt

In terms of security, i do not think that you have to be involved in any thing before you make it paramount, people are being kidnapped at home and are paying upto 5 million as ransoms, my only concern is if this is considered then it has to be done properly, ie using the right materials, erhaps getting an expert for the installation. If its going to be done then do it properly, theres no need doing it and God forbids when you are under attack you fortification is not restraining.

A properly installed one should hold as long as necessary, but these have to be built with the right UL listed specs, in terms of location it can be installed in any part of the house (not necessarily underground) but a good security survey should point out the least vulnerable location,
a properly installed one should come with air purifiers and face mask just in case its a bio-attack. The communications should trigger a call to any nominated response unit. Good thing is the DVR/CCTVs can be accessed remotely, this enables the response unit to analyse the risk situation(know what your attackers are upto) before they arrive on site.

Hope this helps

Also, as an earlier poster expressed the Solar technology is now being adapted to serve dual purposes, i.e cladding and roofing slates, a house built using solar roof slates generates electricity but also serves as a covering, the house needs to be roofed regardless, so why not use something that will generate electricty in the process. yes the price difference will be significant (dont have exact figures yet)but if we move our mindsets from the short-term this represents good investment.
PropertiesRe: Nigerians Could Be Safer With A Panic Room Installed In Their Homes: by newvision(op): 4:51pm On Feb 26, 2010
Yes this can be locally done, however, the hi-tech ones need a decent level of expertise and specialist materials i.e UL listed bullet proof panels which are manufactured in the states, heavy guage steel mesh for the walls and door (for protection against AK 47s, sledge Hammers and axes), communication systems etc.
Obviously the list goes on depending on the level of security required.

The reasons are obvious, did you do your installation locally?
BusinessRe: Why Is Solar Power Not Commonly Used In Nigeria? by newvision: 2:44pm On Feb 26, 2010
From my view point Solar or some form of alternative power is the way to go, the problem is with perception and awareness. Most Nigerians percieve this technology to be expensive, without indepth consideration to long term cost saving. To solar power a 1000 watts you will be looking to expend 1 million + Naira which seems high, however considering the alternative i.e diesel generators to power that same watts you will be looking to expend 400,000 + Naira on diesel per annum, by the time you include your initial purchase cost for the gen + ongoing maintenance costs, running a generator is way more expensive than Solar tech on the long run.

In terms of awareness, sorry to say, Nigerians have this Herd mentality, if my neighbour, colleague, relative, friend is doing it, then its good for me (without evaluating the situation to ascertain best - fit). Problem: Most people I speak to that run on gens probably only require half the size of the generator they currently use. Most people that use 25 KVA only need around 11 but if its the norm then thats fine, disregarding the amount of costly energy that goes to waste. A Solar Tech. quote based on a 25 KVA output is obviously significantly different from that of an 11 KVA output. Then theres the issue of energy saving, the cost to update home appliances to energy efficient ones is relatively cheap compared to the long term costs of powering them. there are energy efficient air conditioners, fridges, light bulbs, tvs that cost up to 70% less to run compared to the typical ones. These are simple practical steps that can be adopted, but no one seems to care, its the norm so lets all follow the pattern. there needs to be a change in the paradigm.

Affordability is another key issue (or so it seems) when solar tech is considered, however, the simple truth is Nigerians can afford it, they are currently powering their generators and Diesel is not cheap. on the long run people will still spend millions
of Naira to run their gens. A way of resolving this is for the financial institutions to assist and finance the purchases, and collects their returns , long term (thats what they are there for)
.
Just my two pence

In the wake of the increased kidnappings, burglary, assassinations etc in Nigeria the need for Nigerians to take a step further and ensure absolute home security is increasingly transforming to a basic necessity. The unbecoming security challenge transcends what the average home security gadgets can resolve. Imagine when the “Serious Boys” arrive, how does a CCTV camera fare against shots from an AK47 or an M16? What is the average response time before security rescue service gets to you when you hit your panic button? And does your attacker wait for you to ,

Someone pls clarify me, as i never cease to be astonished in this area, my question: what is hindering the diffusion of Solar technology in Nigeria? given our natural endowment. From my deductions it seems to be the sure way to go.

Your views pls.
