Nigerians are people with inherent sophisticated ignorance.
It has been further compounded by perpetual failure to drop the toga of a looser being manifested by Jonathanians.
These are the reasons why they can't give robust arguments to buttress their point but readily resort to abusive and gutter languages.
Let them continue.
Even Lee Kwon Young had critics before they were put to embarrassing shame by his exceptional performance.
So, my fingers are crossed till 2018.
Bro, u just drop am the way the mama born am.
That is just the perfect description of our situation.
May God help us.

thumps up to you too bro, the thing is this, who tells the op that they don't smuggle Cars in Nigerian seaport? A lot of nasty things goes on in tincan most times they smuggle Cars due to high custom duty rate and bring it to seme border to pay duty, I have paid duty to tincan smuggled cars more than 1000 times, I even did one 2014 Toyota venza just last week.
Thank you brother. These are what should dominate discussions on nl; educating those who know little or nothing about some issues with a view of finding a way out when one is trapped in such situations. Honestly, I know nothing about these illicit deals in vehicle importation cos my job is not related to that but the idea of smuggling vehicles from Tincan to Seme Border to evade exorbitant custom charges is the least I expect. Wonderful!!!
In summary, it is cheaper to go through that process than simply getting the vehicle cleared at the port, implying that custom duties at the ports are throat-cutting, hmm. Nawao.
May God save us in this country.
I have learnt a trick and this is coming at the right time.
Tnx.

I don't think so bro. Ur international flight ticket is only affected by dollar/naira things. If ur currency is foreign currency denominated, no effect cos u pay with foreign currency directly from that account, online things, forget all these travelling agents.

Hehehe, this is the real problem with our educational system. Someone is busy committing serious grammatical blunders and after fruitless effort to justify same, he is now advising, smh.
English, formal or informal, non permits turning the language upside-down.
Okay, now, what's this again?
And this one may be among the numerous graduates complaining of bad systems in Nigeria.
Nigeria is in a serious problem.

My last piece to you: no any sane adult(that's if you're one) goes about online picking grammatical blunders, trillions of words and spoken a day and people just read, digest in whatever way they can and move the fvck along.... gerrit??
Gerrit bro, but note as well that children are coming to nl to pick words. So the use of slangs and any other informal words may be used but not at the expense of complying with grammatical rules.
Alternatively, pidgin can be used. Most of my posts on nl are in pidgin because I no sabi English wella.

The fun and most important fact of informal expression is getting the message across any sane human should understand what I wrote just as I understood you when you abbreviated you to u.

Politics › Re: Buhari Decorate His Newly Promoted ADC & Commander Of Presidential Air Fleet(pix by nextprince: 9:56pm On Dec 15, 2016
phykel:
What is this one saying.
Ranks are attached to positions.
ADC to the president is usually a senior Lt.col who has undergone the junior officers course in Jaji. The highest rank of an ADC to a President is a colonel.A one star general can not be an ADC. So ranks and positions go together in military.
However the c in c can use his discretion to appoint any one from those shortlisted.
Thanks.
The appropriate rank for ADC at the time of appointment is Lt Col. The military will not shortlist an officer of the rank of Col and above for that appointment and the president will be briefed accordingly even if he is not aware of that rule. A senior major can as well be appointed in that capacity. When u said that Obasanjo's ADC was a colonel, u did not state it clearly if he was col or a Lt Col at the time of appointment and if u are to be taken in the context of that statement, it means he was given that appointment when he was a colonel, which is not true.
Finally, Junior Staff Officers Course is for junior officers of the rank of captain and below . A Lt Col is not a junior officer. The course which a senior Lt Col would have attended and be in the list of senior officers awaiting promotion is Senior Staff Course, same Jaji though.

keep quiet and stop sounding delusional my friend!!!

Rules and use of English is only applied to formal and semi-formal English..... Informal English(meaning there are no boundaries) , get that into that dead brain of yours
Hahahahaha, in the absence of any logic to defend a rotten case, he has finally RESORTED to insult. Claiming formal or informal, I still don't know which of those forms of writing permit the slaughtering of English language.
The difference between formal and informal writing lies in the fact that while slangs and non universal abbreviations are allowed in the latter, they are not in the former. It is not about committing unacceptable grammatical blunders and be claiming one form of writing or the other. Even in this reference, I have not seen where a word having one meaning was substituted for another word with an entirely different meaning.
First, it was typo, later an attempt was made to prove the correctness (with a reference) and finally, it is about being formal/informal.
Laff want comot my teeth, abeg e don do. grin grin grin.

and what relationship does an informal word like break down has to the formal word known as collapse

#shame.......Joke is on you nigga!!!
I had wanted to leave this matter but it seems u really want to prove a point.
B4 I proceed, let me answer ur question.
First, 'break down' is not a word but a phrase.
Secondly, it is not an informal expression.
Thirdly, it can be used in place of the word 'collapse'.
That is the relationship.
But in ur own case, 'resort' and 'result' are separate words.
They have entirely different meanings.
They are only related in sounds when pronounced without applying the proper rules of phonetics and that is where u got it confused thinking they can be interchangeably used.
The apparent finality in their meanings and use does not in any way suggest that they are similar in meaning.
Argument in favour of their interchangeable use suggests total ignorance of their separate meanings.
Finally, in an attempt to prove this rotten point, u are getting urself more involved in grammatical blunders.
I have been ignoring them all along but let me point out one for u.
Does and has as used in ur sentence above is the height of grammatical blunder. I have crossed them 4 u.

dude... Stop orbiting around the same lame point you've been seated on, it's only making you look dumb. It's not sane picking grammatical errors in a social forum that is built on diverse form of expression.

Pidgin itself is an informal way of expression, meaning there's nothing like rule of English grammar in an informal expression...

Using ur in place of your is informally acceptable to you but result in place of resort is not. Na wa for you o
My last comment on this;
'Your' is informally shortened as 'ur' to save time and space but which relationship exists btw 'result' and 'resort'?
Peace.

And about the bolded sentence above.... Oh I've forgotten I was making a formal presentation here on nairaland when I made the sentence lol...

You could use u and ur as an informal way of expression on a social forum and comfortably seated while judging one who uses result in place of resort as an informal way of expression...

The joke is still on you by the way grin
First, u have agreed that u goofed.
On the use of letters in place of words, that is arguably a generally accepted norm/abbreviation on social media and ones use of English cannot be assessed on that basis. Same applies to the use of slangs. But same cannot be said of the use words which are in direct conflict with the rules of grammar in English language.
Rather than breaking the rules of grammar, why not use pidgin? At least, rule no dey for dat one and it is accepted on nl.

Nay bro, u got it wrong and this further throws ur ignorance to the surface. It would have been better if you insist it was typo.
Anyway, let me enlighten u a bit. The word 'result' isn't used that way for the following reasons:
1. In ur proof, it was clearly stated that 'result' was used in the noun sense, while in ur statement u quoted, it was playing the role of a verb, Parts of Speech things. (Get urself Brighter Grammar)
2. The use of the word 'result' in that sense suggests that the speaker/writer learnt English from the street rather than through the formal method cos when the word 'resort' is pronounced, it sounds like 'result' which is more familiar than the former and street boys assume it is 'result'. Go and find out the meaning of 'resort' and learn how it is used.
This is similar to the use of the following pairs interchangeably which is wrong; their/there, curse/cause been/being, etc.
Bro, u goofed, stop arguing otherwise ur ignorance will be further exposed.

U are right bro, but my concern, as I have earlier stated, is; SCHOOL CHILDREN ARE COMING HERE TO PICK WORDS.
Moreover, I don't know how typo should take the blame when 'result' is used in place of 'resort'. grin. Typo whispered to my ear that he will not take that blame although he agreed with 'glorying'.
