When I wanted to marry my wife in 2015,her mother went to my village to find out more about my family.

Do u know what they told her,they told her that we were poor with integrity.
And my mother in law said,poverty is of the mind and they too were poor before things got better and after that,my mother in law and her son jointly gave my wife the go ahead to accept the proposal as what they were interested in was peace of mind and honest family where there is love.

Your wife is lucky that, in your case, things turned out better than they were when she first met you. However, for the vast majority of women out there who married men who earned less at the time, the reality did not turn out the same. That is partly the reason why almost 50% of married women in Nigeria today are breadwinners. Of the others who were not breadwinners, many of them who were not able to attain financial independence before marriage(and maintained it in marriage), a large portion are financially abused by their spouses in marriage.

What OP expressed is a preference many women have, and there is nothing wrong with their choice. Additionally, that choice is facilitated when the woman is financially independent before and throughout the course of the marriage, as we are all aware that even rich men can be stingy towards their own wives and children.

My reason is that,she is already right in her thinking and u can't force an adult whose mind has been set on something...u cam only be talking.

I had to dwell on the part which is most pressing.

I and my wife were bankers when we got married. Her salary was more than mine even till date and even when I left the bank to join a federal job.

But my side income brings in 40 to 50million per annum. If I had wanted to keep this a secret my wife wouldn't know.

So,salary isn't everything aunty. Love first and family goal is key to marriage and not ur skin and those things u just mentioned there.

ironically,I don't collect my wife's salary and in fact,I encourage her to save and invest towards retirement.

I read Estate management and I can say it succinctly that u don't know anything,because if u do,u won't say igbos were into land grabbing in Lagos or yoruba states.

My statement was borne out of sympathy for people both here in the city and in my village. A bag of rice,a bag of beans and even a bag of garri I bought for my mum and dad couldn't last up to 4months due to how people come to beg for food on a daily basis.

Same thing is happening around me,there is no time in week I don't spend minimum of 10k for alms but in all,I thank God almighty.

Back to ur question,I am 42 but I am worth a quarter of a billion naira.

For this period wey ordinary primary school fees dey reach 70k

I was lucky enough to have raised capital aggressively
enough in my early 30s.

Since Jan to date,it was only last month I was able to spend less.

The cheapest I have spent this year happened to be in the month of July,that is about 1.2m. Other months were terribly high.

I don't expect anyone to believe me but I know, it is never easy with me.
