Don’t start with your name. He can see your name from your bid. Not relevant. You must start the first sentence and paragraph with the client’s needs.

I like how you delve into his needs down the proposal and the value stack you introduced.

A bit too lengthy too. Just go with the major talking points:

- His/her needs
- Why you are qualified to help solve those needs
- Previous completed related job/ sample
- Value stack(s)
- Call to action

Don’t forget to put in a clear call to action at the end of your proposal.

A call to action is closing the sale. Telling the client what he should do next if he thinks you are a good match.

A simple call to action sample:

If you think we are a good match let’s chat.

Good job all around.

Don’t beat yourself up on him ghosting.

That he got back to you means your proposal struck a chord. Keep your proposals this way and you would land a client sooner than later.

- ‘Hello. I’m very interested in your project. I’m also interested to know more details...’

Just look at all those selfish people.

Talking about themselves like anyone cares.

This is how almost everyone writes. I’m sure you included.

But luckily for you, I’m about to change that for you.

I want you to stop being ME ME ME ME focused.

Clients don’t hire ME focused people because they know they’re not their to help. They are there to make money.

You see what I always do here?

Writing all these guides and not expecting anything in return?

How I jump on calls all they long using my airtime and speaking for more than 30 minutes to people that reach out and not once asking for money?

That’s the same mindset you need to adopt.

Apply for proposals not expecting anything in return and instead just focusing on solving the other person’s problem.

Proving You Can Actually Hep

Please, don’t apply for jobs you know you can’t deliver on. Please.

Writing a client-attracting proposal means you must only apply to gigs you can help out with.

So, if you have no skill, please go get one and be competent at it. You necessarily don’t have to be world class or good at it even. Just competent.

Here’s how to get started writing magnet proposals:

- Show attention to detail by addressing them by their first name.

- Talk about their needs in your first sentence

- Only talk about your experience education if it directly proves you can get the job done.

- Tell stories about similar projects you’ve worked on in the past and how it turned out.

- Invite the client to chat with you within the platform or get on a call with you.

- Upload relevant samples to show what you can do. Create one if you don’t have.

- offer a money back guarantee/the client not paying you until you get the job done and they like it. This shows them you are serious about quality work.

- PROOF READ YOUR PROPOSAL AND SPELLCHECK!!!

Now here’s an example and a template you can use. Please don’t copy word for word. Use your common sense and tweak to your own situation.

I would have taken the job even if it was $5.

I’m trying to build my credibility with reviews and jobs completed so I’m going for the low dollar value jobs.

If I this wasn’t a new account, this is something I can charge $2000 for easily.

Why?:

Because my copy will make him $10,000 dollars in a single campaign.

What I tell folks is that, don’t jump to the high dolar jobs when starting out. You don’t have the credibility yet.

So go for low dollar amounts where you don’t need people to trust you that much to award you the job.

I Have three jobs already. Just started sending out proposals on New year. The aim of this thread is to show you how I will start from scratch and build my accounts back to making 5,000 dollars a month.

I have done it before. I deleted that account when I hear people give the excuse of not knowing how to make money online. I want to show people it’s possible if you have the right mindset. It’s not to boast.

Now here’s the thing: There’s a big chance that in just a few weeks I could be halfway to achieving that goal already. January isn’t even over yet.

There’s a story I said I was going to tell you guys about a job I was awarded.

I have provided so much value upfront that the client wants me to start working for his company with a starting salary of $1000 AUD (Australian dollars).

Get this: This is a new account on freelancer.com

I don’t have any reviews.

I haven’t completed any job before now.

I’m from one of the most infamous country in the world but yet.

Why?

Value.

So let me tell the story from the top.

He is Australian and he programs forex indicators that helps you automate trades with very good signals.

He wanted a sales letter to sell the latest version of the indicator.

So I placed a bid.

My proposal was value loaded and that’s why I got the job.

After placing the bid. I quickly fired up google doc and started writing a sample (4,000 words). When it was done I went back and edited my bid and added a link to the sample.

I offered a money back guarantee.

I told him I was willing to even write another sample for free for him.

He wanted a 5,000 word copy (wanted more but didn’t want to over pay for extra). I told him I was going to get him 7,000. The extra 2000 on the house.

I told him he had unlimited revisions. That I was going to revise the copy until he was happy. I told him no deposit or milestone was needed. That I was going to do the job and he should only pay me if he liked it. If he didn’t he shouldn’t and that’s fine.

I even had a link on my proposal where he could get a template he could use for free without even paying anyone for the job including me.

Then I waited.

The post had about 10 days to go and then BAAM! I was notified I was awarded the job.

Now here’s what he said:

He said he was skeptical about my no credibility and lack of reviews but he was willing to go ahead and give me the job. He said it was a no brainer. He said immediately he saw my proposal he just stopped reading other proposals and gave it to me.

Why?: Value.

Now here’s the weird part: His budget was $30.

He said fxxk that. He doubled it and created a milestone immediately. On his own.

On his own.

He went to $60 dollars.

I’m not even finished.

We talked a bit about forex. I trade too.

And the next thing he gave me a free license to his indicator worth $279.

Added me to his forum.

Why?: I wasn’t thinking about myself.

I was asking myself every step of the way: ‘How can I help this guy sell his forex indicator on click bank with Copy that’s so enchnating’

What does he want exactly?

What are his fears about getting the wrong freelancer?

I don’t like writing.

I wrote a huge sample for free and gave it out.

I gave him a free template I know he could just take and close the job post immediately and do it himself.

But I wasn’t bothered. I wasn’t expecting anything in return. I know if I provide enough value the universe will pay me back. And it did!

That’s the lesson here.

Stop trying to make money. It’s very hard hustling money at every opportunity. Money is like a cat. It eludes you if you are too desperate.

It comes to you when you provide value and think of others first.

Yeah. I do that but for clients only. So I only do it when I have to do it.

I’m not selling anything here so I don’t really have to do that. This is my own way of just giving out things I know for free.

I don’t really mind if people believe or not here. I try to let my writing do the talk.

A lot of screenshots are doctored. And I usually tell people to not even trust those. I could doctor earnings easily if I wanted to and post here. I even sniff out some here.

What I think people should do is read more and expose yourself to topics you are interested in. When you meet a charlatan you will spot one from miles away.

thanks. What I offer are writing and transcription. Blogging has made me master the art of writing. I'm also going to add graphic design to my gigs soon. Freelancing is easier and better than affiliate marking and blogging

Exactly I tell people to start with freelancing.

But many see it as hard work and they rather just sit at home and blog.

The higher the friction the better.

Blogging is low friction and almost everyone will fail at it. The traffic numbers to make it work is difficult to attain. You need a lot of luck on your side especially now that it is extremely saturated.

Go high friction. Flip the funnel upside down and you will have it easier to make money online.

I will write more about flipping the funnel system and going high friction. That’s one of the single biggest thing that’s made the difference for me.

To be a successful freelancer you have to adopt this mindset.

It’s a mindset based on creating value in the world and solving problems for other people.

It’s about ‘how can I help other people?’

Your ability to earn premium rates as a freelancer is directly tied to your ability to help other people.

Ask ‘Who can I help today’ and expect nothing in return.

Just start helping people and your mindset automatically shifts with you.

How can I help this person overcome their problem?

What has to happen for them to succeed?

Who do I know that can help out with this?

Where could this person get more help with their problem?

When can I start solving problems for others?

These are the questions you must always be asking yourself.

In the world of freelance, thinking and talking about the other person is everything.

Caring about the other person is everything.

Solving problems for other people is everything.

Being valuable to others is everything.

So what is freelancing

Freelancing is doing a specific skill for multiple people.

It involves less general work and more specific work.

You are not an employee and you do not receive benefits but you work from home or anywhere in the world with internet.

What you want to do is to build income gradually from freelance and replace your corporate job’s (prison) full time income.

Take back control of how much you earn in a month or year.

However, Freelance is not passive income.

You just don’t sit there and watch Telemundo while the money hits your bank account.

It involves work.

A lot of work.

So if you don’t like work, stop reading now and go back to watching Telemundo.

As you gain momentum, there are ways to free your time from your income to some extent. But that comes much more later.

You have to put in the work first.

Freelancing can allow you to get back to living life on your own terms.

It has for me.

I work from anywhere as long as I have my laptop, even just my phone and the internet.

Freelance without training rarely surpass the $500 mark.

This is why it takes usually between 6 months to 1 year to earn your first $500 - $1000 so far you put in the work.

What can $1000 a month do for you?

How will it change your life?

How will working on your terms and from anywhere in the world make you feel?

After earning your first $1000 life gets a lot easier. But it takes some learning curve to get there.

After your first $1k you will have built up social proof and credibitly:

Social proof and credibility is what you need to scale into higher amounts.

But let’s not get too far ahead yet.

You need to commit a minimum of 6 months to 1 year to see great results.

A lot of people will give up before then.

You mustn’t if you want to escape the rough and hard life you have now. You must make a promise to yourself to keep pushing on no matter the results you see initially.

You also need to commit at least 3-6 hours a week to freelancing.

It takes time to secure new clients and contracts.

The more time you can commit to your freelance success, the more successful you will likely be!

I think it will be great if you share your story also. A lot of people need to know this is possible. That they shouldn’t resort to illegitimate ways of making money or be hopeless and sulk away that they can’t gain financial freedom.

Do you like been manhandled by those guys?

That’s what you do when you just care about yourself and it’s all about me me me me me me. People can smell neediness from a mile away.

Ask babes. They get this.

Now how do you follow the value first and only strategy:

I will give you a rundown of how I handle my web design business.

I will build a site for you. You don’t pay. Value first.

I will spend days researching your market and craft copy that will jive with them for free. Value again.

I will then host the site for you. Geez. Value value value.

I will then build an AdWords campaign with my own money and start driving traffic to your site (sometimes I host the site on my own domain and have the contact form lead to my own end).

Nothing from my clients. All for free.

Now when I start getting leads and people filling out the contact form asking about the businesses service or product, I start sending them to the client to close.

Or if it’s the client getting the leads on their own end I check up on them and ask how we are doing with leads.

Once they start getting leads and turning them into sales I ask them to open their wallet and pay me.

Now you see the difference.

No one needs a freaking website. In fact I turn away more than 50% of the people that ask me to build them a site.

Why?:

Because I can’t help them. If I can’t help them why should I build them a site and charge them for no result.

From the get go, I know a website isn’t what they need and a website won’t do much for them. It’s usually the guy that wakes up from a blissful dream one day and gets an inspiration to start selling perfumes all across Nigeria.

No sales strategy in place.

Logistics non existent.

Never done business before.

Perfumes are blehhhhh mehhhh.

I just tell them, go sell to your friends and neighbors first. Come back two weeks from now and we would talk.

They never come back.

So back to my point:

Nobody needs a website. They need sales. That’s what websites are for. To sell. A website is a digital salesman.

That’s the problem business want solved when they come to you with a website.

So the value first approach is to solve this for them. You are the designer. The expert. Your job is to educate them, help them make money. That’s what they need.

But many people don’t see it this way. They see it as what’s my business. Let me just create the site and charge them.

But guess what you haven’t solved any problem. People have started catching up and getting educated. Hey bro, your site did nada for me.

The value first approach is doing things the hard way first so that thing can be easy later on.

Solve a sales problem for a business and get them closIng a sale every month and watch how they will refer the bejesus out of you. They will tell their dog even.

See, this guy built me this site and business has been crazy man. I just called him to shut down the site because I can’t handle it.

What do you think her hairdresser she’s talkIng to will do?

Abeg give me hin number, omalicha. My business have been slow. Let me know if it’s this village people or not.

And then your phone is ringing relentlessly at 4 am. Omalicha gave me your number....

And then you are making moolah....

Same goes for freelancing.

On this platform, the clients are even smarter.

You must go in there with the mentality to solve their problem and provide immense value.

ProvidIng value is hard. Very hard. So you will just outcompete everyone if you do it. Everybody else will be looking for a shortcut while you are providing money back guarantee...result based pricing...free delivery...sending a bottle of champagne after finishing a website...sending them leads...modifying a freelance work until the client is happy...delivering your work like yesterday etc.

Value first. Value first. Value first.

Forget about yourself. Yes, I know it’s hard. I know that cow meat it’s almost gone and your bashed on Camry makes people laugh at you. But trusts me, you will have the last laugh if you put others before you every single timmmmmme!

Hmmm....this is the same message a certain Jesus Christ also preached.

I won’t be posting much during the festive period because I know a lot of you will be busy with your jollof rice and chicken.

This night however, expect a post on mentality and how to craft a client magnet profile.

You need a certain mentality to succeed in business and in freelancing.

This is the very first bridge to cross.

The mentality post is in my own opinion the most important I will be penning thus far.

If you’ve been stuck and struggling with this make money online thing I’m ready to bet it’s your mentality holding you back.

That’s the single biggest reason I see people struggle. So I want you all to have a mind set shift.

Without that mind set shift you will struggle.

On the surface it seems simple and easy but I have come to realize that many just don’t get it. Or should I say unwilling to change their mindset.

It’s almost criminal.

I just don’t get it sometimes. It’s very difficult for most people I have had this discussion with to have that change of mindset.

Probably they think it can’t be that simple and want to complicate it. But you can’t complicate this. Have that mindset shift and make things easy or keep struggling.

I also think it’s the society many of us have come to know that creates this dissonance. Nigeria is a country where people don’t really understand how value and transfer of money works.

We have a lot of bad examples and misnomer that we see and we somehow think this is the way things work. We emulate this bad examples and of course don’t get the results we want.

So I will be delving into the mindset stuff this night.

Freelancer.com has something similar.

How much do they charge you? And how frequent? Is it a monthly charge if you fail to get two clients or it’s a one-off?

The best way to quickly get two clients is to go for very low pound value work.

Say 6-10 pounds job.

Most of these jobs won’t require you to have a portfolio and don’t mind if you are new to freelancing or new on the platform.

So max out your application on these type of jobs and see what happens.

I have some upcoming posts on how to write client attracting bios/profile and also writing proposals that make you stand above the crowd and win you jobs. But this thing takes a bit of time and one month is honestly a tight deadline.

So I will just say, take the charge (I’m sure it should be very affordable to take) and play out your odds. You will win back all those charges when you start banging in jobs with your killer proposals and client attracting bios.
