FAMILY WRITERS INTERVIEW WITH ASARI MUJAHID DOKUBO Tuesday, 15 March 2016 FAMILY WRITERS INTERVIEW WITH ASARI MUJAHID DOKUBO Chief Mujahid Asari Dokubo, the former Ijaw Youth Council President and founder of the defunct Niger Delta People's Volunteer Force (NDPVF) He took his time off the mounting tension to address FAMILY WRITERS. In an extensive chat with Ibeh Gift Amarachi, Blessed Orji and Chima Onyekachi, he proudly as a Biafran freedom fighter poured out his love and closeness to Igbo Biafra extraction. Asari Dokubo with Family Writers SIR, MOST PEOPLE ARE SEEN TO REPEATEDLY TAG THE BIAFRA QUEST TO BE AN IGBO STRUGGLE, WHAT IS YOUR TAKE ON THAT? Biafra is never an Igbo struggle alone, every region in the old Eastern Nigeria is Biafra. The name BIAFRA was suggested by Chief Frank Opigo, who was the then proprietor of Niger Grammar School at the Eastern Nigeria Consultative Forum. Anybody who is saying that, the Ijaw people, Efik,Ibibio are not Biafrans is just been mischievous and are working against the interest of their people. WHAT DOES BIAFRA AS A NATION MEAN TO YOU? Nations are not created. Nations must remain natural to the people and must be accepted by the people. Biafra has existed before Nigeria and the people of Biafra have been together for a very long time. For instance, the Cities of Ijaws, Nemba Brass, Akasar, Grand Bonny, Opobo, Okrika spiritually look up to Arochukwu Chukwuabiama which they call Chukwu. If you want to have a child or your wife is pregnant and you happened to be a high chief in those days in Kalabari, you will send people to go and make some consultations if the child can carry out your legacy in Arochukwu that is how close we are to each other. A lot of people don't know that the main religion we practice in Ijaw, is same with Efik and every other region in Biafra land. Everybody worships Chukwuabiama. If today the main deity Asoko which Kalabari people worship and something eventually gets wrong, one will be asked to go to Arochukwu or Osuzu for consultation, which is also a shrine of Chukwuabiama. A lot of people don't know the Truth. They just open their mouths to talk trash. All of us got our roots from Arochukwu, in fact where the Arochukwu's presently are; it was the Ibibios that left there. This is facts that nobody can keep aside. A LOT OF SPECULATIONS HAS BEEN MADE OVER THE DICTATORSHIP ACTS OF MOHAMMADU BUHARI THE PRESIDENT OF NIGERIA AND HIS QUEST TO STOP BIAFRA INDEPENDENCE. DO YOU THINK BUHARI CAN STOP THE RESTORATION OF BIAFRA? The restoration of Biafra, have nothing to do with an individual. It is our responsibilities and actions that will restore Biafra. To those of you who are Christians, there is a biblical verse that says; "When the enemy comes like a flood against us, a standard will be lifted up against them". The question is who are those ready to meet the standard? The Indigenous People of Biafra have shown strength and resoluteness, so they should continue been strong. They should carry out one on one campaign all over Biafra land, not just in Igbo land. Resolution must be shouldered by a particular set of people, before it will get to others. It is our collective responsibilities that will make Biafra restoration a Success. IN THE PRESIDENTIAL MEDIA CHART, MOHAMADU BUHARI CONDEMED NNAMDI KANU OVER HIS POSSESSION OF PASSPPORT AND LABELLED IT TREASONABLE. WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS? Buhari does not understand what he is talking about. Just ignore him, he is a stark illiterate. He is talking of dual citizenship, but his daughter Zarah Buhari is in possession of dual passport, that is a Nigerian and British passport. With Zarah Buhari's dual citizenship, have she committed treason also? My Children are also in possession of dual passports, have they also gone against the Law governing Nigeria? If it’s a crime to be a dual citizen, then he should arrest his daughter and his other children who were born abroad. In fact, Buhari doesn't know what he is talking about. FOLLOWING THE UNLAWFUL DETENTION OF THE LEADER OF THE INDIGENOUS PEOPLE OF BIAFRA MAZI NNAMDI KANU AND THE BREACH OF JUSTCE DONE BY JUSTICE JOHN TSOHO ON SECRET TRIAL,DO YOU THINK NIGERIA JUDICIARY CAN LET JUSTICE PREVAIL? There is no Justice in Nigeria. There is no way Nigeria government will let Justice prevail in Nnamdi Kanu's case. Nigeria cannot give any Biafran Justice, including Nnamdi Kanu. I have gone through that before. They wanted to put me on secret trial to stop me from coming to the court, but my Lawyer fought against it. So, Nnamdi Kanu and every Biafran should never expect Justice, from this darkness called Nigeria. WHAT MESSAGE WILL YOU LEAVE FOR BIAFRANS? I want our people to be steadfast. We can see our destination and we must arrive at it. Biafra will be the hope not just for Biafrans alone, but every Blackman.

SHOCK AS JUDGE TSOHO MAKES A U-TURN, AGREES ON A SECRET TRIAL Monday, 7 March 2016 By Okonkwo Isaac Somto For Family Writers After much argument and deliberation from the defending lawyer and the prosecuting lawyer on whether the witness should be granted a secret trial, Judge Judge Tsoho who initially ruled out the secret trial has shockingly agreed to a secret trial. Making his submission, Chuks Muoma (SAN), Kanu’s lawyer, had asked the court to not only discharge his client, but also to order that he should not be rearrested by the DSS. “I posit that the prosecution is not ready to prosecute the charges against the defendants,” he said. Judge Judge Tsoho “My lord with respect, it is very clear that this ‘witness story’ is no longer going to be condoned by this court. They can’t open their case. How long are we going to come here? “I most humbly urge the court to dismiss this complaint. I urge your lordship to apply the law being section 351 (1) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act. “The prosecution is not prepared to produce its witnesses. I most humbly apply the charge against the defendants be dismissed. My lord should make an order that they should not be rearrested. I seek a specific order that they should not be rearrested.” But Mohammed Diri, counsel to the DSS, in his argument, stated that the prosecution was ready to call its witnesses, but asked that they be masked. “Our witnesses are ready. They will definitely come to this court,” he said. “We have not told this court that we don’t have witnesses, or that they are not around. “We are simply asking this court to vary its order. To allow our witnesses to testify behind a screen so that their identities will not be revealed. I shall ask for a short adjournment so that we can make an application to vary the order of the court.” Although the judge declined the request to dismiss the charges against Kanu he upheld the argument of Diri that the prosecution witnesses should be given some form of protection by use of a screen. This was the same Judge who struck out a Secret trial on the 19th of February and then reconsidered it today been the 7th of March. Judge Judge Tsoho ruled that, the witnesses should be granted a secret trial, which is totally contrary to his former rulings. Many continue to wonder if Judge Tosho really knows what he's doing or has he suddenly gone daft of the justice, the Judiciary needs to uphold? Judge Tsoho should be under investigation for the alleged bribe he collected from president Buhari (N100million scandal). Judge Tsoho continue to show that he is a willing puppet and a pawn been used by Mohammadu Buhari, to continue frustrating and adjourning the case. Buhari who have vowed that Nnamdi Kanu will be jailed, has found a willing tool in Judge Tsoho, a man willing to do Buhari's bidding. The Nigeria judiciary is a disgrace and shouldn't even capable and dependable to be able to carry out a justified case in court. It’s now time to know that this case against Nnamdi Kanu will go on forever if allowed, we can no longer folds our hands and watch, hoping that one day, Nnamdi Kanu will receive justice from the Nigeria Judiciary. That won't happen, because the Nigeria Judiciary doesn't have any power against the government of Buhari. The Nigeria Court is a failure and a shame to the rule of law. Judge Judge Tsoho is a man who keeps getting instructions from Buhari on how the case should go on and you expect the leader of the Indigenous people of Biafra to receive a fair judgment? We all know the answer to that. The case has been adjourned to 9th March and a Secret trial will be granted, through the use of screen. |

I was kidnapped for refusing to join cult – Catholic priest ON FEBRUARY 7, 20164:48 AMIN CRIME GUARDCOMMENTS By Charles Adingupu Bernard Jenfa Adedayo was one of the priests ordained by the Bishop of Nnewi, Rev. Hillary Okeke, at the Saint Georges’ Catholic Church, Orifite, Anambra State, after a rigorous training that lasted almost 17 years. That day climaxed his childhood ambition of becoming a servant in God’s vineyard. He was posted to the Catholic Church Assumption, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State shortly after the ordination. priest Bernard Jenfa Adedayo The enthusiasm to carry the gospel beyond the dry lands of Ijebu-Ode pre-occupied his young mind. And so, from village to village, he went like a humble servant, proclaiming the good news. However, this excitement was short-lived when the young priest got his first baptism of fire as some alleged members of a renowned cult group kidnapped him. This firebrand Catholic priest eventually became a guest to kidnappers in a forest that was home to reptiles and carnivorous animals. ‘How I was abducted’ Sometimes, Adedayo was assigned to conduct mass outside his base. One day, in the course of such assignment, a group of persons walked up to him. “They said to me: ‘ Father, we would want you to join our group’ . I asked them which group, as I only knew of the Association of Sacred Heart of Jesus and Immaculate Heart of Mary, Saint Anthony of Padua, Legion of Mary, and the Charismatic Renewal of Nigeria. But they said theirs was none of these and walked away,” he narrated. “After some time, another group accosted me. But, this time, they introduced themselves as members of a secret cult. They said: ‘ We want to work with you and, as time progresses, we would make you one of our patrons.’ My response to their request was polite but firm. I asked them what light had got to do with darkness, and told them that we had nothing in common, so we could not work together. That reply marked the beginning of a battle that almost took my life. They threatened to kill me. Though they almost succeeded, God delivered me from their hands. The reason for their failure was obvious because my life is not in the hands of men but in the hands God.” On the day he was abducted, the reverend father was rounding off a mass in a nearby village when five hefty men, armed with assault rifles, approached him, bundled him into a vehicle and zoomed off. “All entreaties to allow me install the Blessed Sacrament fell on deaf ears. Again, I made on appeal to them to allow me pack some of my personal effects all to no avail. Perhaps they thought that any attempt to give me a breathing space might lead to my escape. And so, they zoomed off,” the priest stated. “We eventually got to an uncompleted building in a forest. For one long silent night, I was with them in a place I didn’t know. After a while, one of them gave me a clue as to why I was kidnapped when he said, ‘ Father, you have proved to be very stubborn and I don’t know why.’ All through the night, I was meditating and it was in the middle of this that one of them walked up to me and said, ‘ Father, say your last prayer because you are going to die now. “Well, I knelt down with my eyes closed and called on the name of the God to let His will be done. Another member of the gang asked: ‘ But what did this man do to warrant his death?’ Yet another gang member responded: ‘ Our business is not to debate his destiny but to kill him and nothing more.’ The argument went on and on. They started showing their might over one another. Walk to freedom “ When eventually I opened my eyes after my prayers, there was nobody in the house except me. Just then, the Lord ministered unto me: ‘ What are you waiting for? Stand up and go!’ I stood up, left the room and trekked a long distance before I could find my bearing. It was indeed a miraculous experience. The Lord took me from their hands. I was able to locate my way from the forest without molestation from animals or evil-minded human beings.” After that horrifying experience, the Superior General of the Vincentian Order in Nigeria thought it expedient to re-assign Adedayo to another parish in Enugu Diocese. He was there for almost two years before he was deployed to a parish in Lagos. Adedayo, who recently clocked five years in priesthood, said there is always a challenge in every human endeavour, adding that priesthood is not an exception. “When Christ gave us his life,” said the priest, “he did not eradicate all the troubles but rather gave us the courage to confront these obstacles.” An author, he recently launched a book, entitled, “His Love Is Grace’, while working on other projects designed to help propagate the faith. “We trust God for so many things. We have some projects in mind and I know God will help us to actualize them,” he said. The 160-page book is about man’s salvation based on God’s gratuitous gift of grace. Adedayo expressed optimism that the book will boost the faith of Christians. |

Nigeria: Lawyers will file complaint with ICC on rights abuses against Biafrans on 29 January Ludovica Iaccino By Ludovica Iaccino January 19, 2016 12:44 GMT 173 Biafra protest Pro-Biafrans call for the independence of Biafran territories, forcibly annexed to modern-day Nigeria during British colonisationgetty images A group of Netherlands-based lawyers has set Friday 29 January as the date they will file a complaint with the International Criminal Court (ICC) on alleged human right abuses committed by the Nigerian government against pro-Biafrans. Dutch lawyer and professor Göran Sluiter, from the Amsterdam-based law firm Prakken d'Oliveira, is to file the complaint. Pro-Biafrans demand the independence of the Biafran territories forcibly annexed to modern-day Nigeria during British colonisation, which ended in 1960. Why advertise with us "To date, there is clear and consistent evidence that crimes against humanity within the jurisdiction of the ICC have been committed in the context of politically and ethnically-motivated state violence against, primarily, IPOB [Indigenous People of Biafra] members and the Igbo people of South-Eastern Nigeria," Prakken d'Oliveira said in a statement on Tuesday 19 January. Sluiter, who specialises in international criminal law, told IBTimes UK earlier in January that his team interviewed dozens of people who had been victim of alleged abuses, including murder, unlawful imprisonment, torture and enforced disappearance. Nnamdi Kanu's detention source of concern In the latest developments, at least three pro-Biafran demonstrators are believed to have been killed in Abia state, southeastern Nigeria, during protests held by Ipob on 18 January. Ipob announced the demonstrations a few days before a scheduled hearing on the bail application for Nnamdi Kanu – director of Radio Biafra and Ipob leader – arrested in Lagos by the State Security Service (DSS) last October. The hearing was however postponed to 20 January as the judge failed to appear in court. Kanu, who has been accused of inciting hate during his broadcasts, was apprehended on conspiracy and terrorism charges that were later dropped. However, a day after the Abuja High Court ruled he should be released, officials pressed new treasonable felony charges against him. Watch IBTimes UK exclusive interviews with Kanu's wife My husband is a prisoner of conscience This is why we need Biafra During a media chat in December, President Muhammadu Buhari sparked outrage after stating that Kanu would not be freed in spite of the High Court rulings due to the "atrocities" allegedly committed. "President Buhari, for his part, has publicly endorsed — and presumably ordered — the prolonged unlawful imprisonment, suggesting that the situation is far too politically sensitive to be entrusted to the court system," Prakken d'Oliveira said. "Kanu and the many other victims of the Federal Government's anti-Igbo campaign have been specifically targeted for their actual or perceived support of Biafran self-determination. The right to publicly advocate and support political positions that may be disagreeable to the government of the day is protected by both Nigerian and international law." IBTimes UK has contacted Buhari's spokesperson Femi Adesina for a comment on the allegations, but has not received a response at the time of publishing. In a previous interview, Adesina told IBTimes UK: "The lawyers have a right to their opinions. It does not make what they say gospel truth. With regards to Nnamdi Kanu, the president already spoke on the matter during the Presidential Media Chat." Pro-Biafrans' demands and government's position Buhari's government has always mantained that Nigeria's unity is a priority for the country and that although peaceful pro-Biafran protests are welcome, demanding the breakaway of the Biafran territories is against the constitution. Mike Omeri, a spokesperson for the Nigerian government, denied any wrongdoing by the leadership. He told IBTimes UK: "No, the Nigerian government is not committing abuses, we reject such allegations. The government of Nigerians say individuals have the right to demand for anything, but without acting to sabotage the nation. "The government recognises the rights of the Igbo men, but it will not just watch these freedoms and rights being trampled upon by a few people," Omeri continued. "Nigeria has had a civil war. The government and 99% of the people in Nigeria do not think that we should have another one." Former President Olusegun Obasanjo accused some people behind the protests of commercialising the Biafran cause as a way to extort money. He said during a conference in Abuja on 16 January: "There is even some suspicion that the agitators embarked on the act in order to extort money from outsiders and to also extract financial support from the government." The former leader – who was an army commander during the civil war (1967-1970) spurred by the declaration of the Republic of Biafra, later re-annexed to Nigeria – also said Nigeria cannot afford to face another insurgency like the one carried out by Boko Haram terrorists in the north-east. "Youth education, welfare, well-being, empowerment and employment for ever must be our collective duty, obligation and responsibility," Obasanjo said.http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/nigeria-lawyers-will-file-complaint-icc-rights-abuses-against-biafrans-29-january-1538757 |
