Although President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday doused tension by suspending the plan to settle Fulani herdsmen, Nigerians want more to be done. They want Buhari to cancel Ruga in its entirety. The suspension was announced after a meeting between Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and state governors at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The Chairman of the National Economic Council (NEC) committee on farmers/herders crisis and Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi, told reporters: “Today, Mr. President has suspended the implementation of the Ruga programme, initiated and being implemented by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, because it is not consistent with the NEC and the Federal Government approved National Livestock Transformation plan, which has programmes of rehabilitation of displaced IDPs, resulting from the crisis and also development of ranches in any willing state of the federation. The word is ‘willing’ state of the federation.” He explained: “The beauty of the National Livestock Transformation plan is that what NEC and the Federal Government approved is a voluntary programme to all the 36 states who may like to participate. So, it is not compulsory, it is for any state that is willing to key into the programme.” The suspension has, however, drawn criticism from some Nigerians who have maintained that the policy deserves outright cancellation. “We do not want you to suspend Ruga, we want you to cancel it! Suspension means you are postponing the evil day, cancellation means it is never coming back. If you want peace in this country, Ruga must be cancelled and you must also cancel your Fulanisation and Islamisation policy,” said a former Minister of Aviation and opposition Peoples Democratic Party chieftain, Femi Fani-Kayode. Buhari and Atiku APC whips Atiku over peace accord The five-member panel tribunal headed by Justice Mohammed Garba, equally gave President Buhari, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and the All Progressives Congress, APC, who were cited as 1st to 3rd Respondents, respectively, six days each to defend the petition the PDP and Atiku lodged to challenge the outcome of the presidential election. The tribunal took the decision after a brief meeting that was held by lead counsel to all the parties in the matter. Chairman of the tribunal, Justice Garba had, before he okayed a 30-minute stand-down of the proceeding, noted that by the provision of Paragraph 16(3) of the First Schedule to the Electoral Act, the petitioners were, by law, allowed a maximum of 14 days to present their case against the election, while each of the respondents would take 10 days each to enter their defense. When the tribunal reconvened after the stand-down, lead counsel to the petitioners, Dr. Livy Uzoukwu, SAN, announced that all the parties had, at the end of the brief meeting, agreed that the time should be abridged. Uzoukwu further told the tribunal that his clients had lined up a total of 400 witnesses that would be called to testify and give evidence in the course of the hearing. “We intend to call many witnesses as possible within the prescribed time”, he added. On modalities to be adopted for hearing of the petition, he said the parties were in agreement that they would tender documents and reserve objections till the final written address. “We, however, agreed to isolate the objections from the final address of parties. All the parties equally agreed that “ordinary witnesses” will take five minutes each to present their Evidence-in-Chief, while they would be cross-examined for 10 minutes. It was, however, their position that “Star, Expert and Subpoenaed witnesses” would take 10 minutes each to give evidence, while 20 minutes would be used for their cross-examination. He said, “We have discussed here that in using Bible and Quran to swear in public office holders, maybe the intention was for them to have the fear of God and Allah but it is not working, lifting Bible and Quran in your hands, has not served as any deterrent to any public officer, the more Bible and Quran they use the more money are disappearing. “We suggest that we use the Constitution to swear in public office holders. If somebody must use Bible or Quran, he must adhered to what the Bible or Quran says. Busola Dakolo, the wife of popular artiste, Timi Dakolo, has spoken about how she survived a rape ordeal by the founder of The Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA), Biodun Fatoyinbo. Mr Fatoyinbo, who has also been implicated in several sexual scandals, runs the Abuja headquarters of his church with his wife, Modele. Mrs Dakolo opened up about her ordeal in a YouTube interview with Chude Jideonwo published on Friday by the channel, YNaija. She explained that while a member of the church, she was raped at two different times in a week by the pastor. Mrs Dakolo alleged that the pastor raped her for the first time at her parent’s home and at another time in a secluded road path. She said the incidents occurred before she turned 18 and added that she lost her virginity to him. According to the women, Mr Fatoyinbo convinced her through gifts of books and cassette tapes to keep attending their club when she was back home from school. Detailing the circumstances that led to her being raped for the first time, Mrs Dakolo said, “Fatoyinbo showed up at our house unannounced. It was a Monday morning early and I was still in my nightgown. My mother had travelled with my sisters and were absent at service the previous Sunday. “He didn’t say a word, forced me onto a chair, speaking only to command me to do as he said. It took me a while to come to terms with what was about to happen, and it was why I didn’t struggle or make a fuss when he pulled down my underwear and raped me.” She added that he did not say anything after, left to his car, returned with a bottle of Krest and forced her to drink it, probably as some crude contraceptive. She said she recalled him saying,“You should be happy that a man of God did this to you.” She said at this time, his wife had just given birth to their first child, Oluwashindara. The interview comes after her husband, Timi, called out the pastor over his alleged sexual relationship with female church members, even as he encouraged other victims who have gone through the experience to speak up. Mrs Dakolo said she spoke up because her husband put up a social media post on Instagram, accusing the Nigerian clergy of condoning rape and sexual assault. Prominent columnist, Festus Adedayo, has spoken for the first time, since the Senate President Ahmad Lawan, rescinded his appointment. DAILY POST reports that Lawan took the decision, barely 48 hours after appointing Adedayo as Special Adviser on Media and Publicity. This came after some supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) kicked against the appointment. On Thursday morning, a group known as APC stakeholders accused Lawan of rewarding President Muhammadu Buhari’s enemies. They had cited some articles, in which he criticised Buhari and some of his policies. “Of a truth, I am a venomous critic of President Muhammadu Buhari, with no apologies.
