TIS NOT HURRRAY YET, BERTI NFA deny Vogts' dismissal Posted: 2008-02-05 15:15 The Nigeria Football Association (NFA) on Tuesday stunned a crowded press conference by denying that Super Eagles coach Berti Vogts has been sacked. NFA board member Mohammed Ladan read out a short statement stating that although the NFA recognised “the dismal performance of the Super Eagles at the 26th Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana despite the full support of the government of Nigeria, the Executive Committee regrets the widespread rumours about the status of the coach and dissociates itself from the reports claiming that he has been dismissed”. The press conference, which was scheduled for 10h00 local time, did not start until nearly 13h00, with insiders telling KickOffNigeria.com that the NFA board had received instructions from 'above' to delay the announcement by at least 24 hours. This was to give the NFA time to brief Globacom chairman Mike Adenuga, whose company foots the bill for the coach's wages. |
