Unveil Me, My Love by Orikinla(m): 4:31pm On Oct 07, 2006
I have just wriiten my latest short story Unveil Me, My Love on the true story of how and when Aishah bint Abu bakr the youngest wife of Prophet Muhammad was accused of adultery. But the prophet spared her life, because he couldn't find the required four witnesses to convict her.  She was very wise to do it in secret. Otherwise, she would have been stoned to death.

The story was well researched and already completed in over 2,200 words.

Aishah(ra) was even the first to unveil herself in public!

"Since the Almighty hath put on me the stamp of beauty, it is my wish that the public should view the beauty and thereby recognized His grace unto them. On no account, therefore, will I veil myself," said Aisha bint Talha

So, don't mind all the ignorant hypocritical Muslims screaming to condemn Jack Straw over his decision for Muslim women coming for official appointments in his office to remove their nikabs.

Watch out for Unvel Me, My Love

Please avoid this topic like a plague. The people you are writing about won't find it funny.
Re: Unveil Me, My Love by Orikinla(m): 8:29pm On Oct 07, 2006
Seun,
I won't post it on Nairaland.

It is going to be published commercially as short fiction.

I have completed it.
My Editor is writing the Prophet's Mistress on how the prophet died at 63. And how and why all his sons died before him and only his daughter Fatimah survived him.
Was he poisoned by the woman he abducted after torturing and beheading her husband?

I have all their real names and the circumstances in my fictionalized version.

Once it is published, I will let those who want to read know where to see it online. It won't be available offline for security reasons.

It was as if I was present right there at the time and I was seeing the whole events before my very eyes.

Oh my daze. That sounds really interesting, I want the book already!!! However, that could be potentially destructive, especially as it somewhat related to religion.

- Don't forget that the Miss World riot was started by a printed work.
- Don't forget that these people like to protes against books that are critical of their prophet in any way.
- Please be careful oga. Please be really careful! We love you!

Seun,
I have edited the fiction and left Aishah bint Abu Bakr without having a relationship even after the death of the Prophet.
But she was only 18 when the Prophet died.

Here is an extract:

But the last prophet  of Allah/الله) patted him on his shoulder and nodded that Abu Bakr should continue. Abu Bakr  often glanced at the prophet who was sitting at his right hand side praying in solitude.

We were all in elated spirits to see him looking hale and hearty in spite of his protracted illness.  Anas (ra) turned to me and smiled with glee.
“I never saw the Prophet’s face more beautiful than it was at that hour,” he said joyfully.
I nodded and as I looked to see the cheerful faces of the other devotees, my eyes and the eyes of Aishah met and I quickly averted my eyes lest I would be caught ogling at the most beloved wife of the prophet. Then I saw him whisper into the ear of Aishah.

Later Sunniyah told me that Aishah disclosed to her what he whispered into Aishah’s ear.
“No Prophet is taken by death until he has been shown his place in Paradise and then offered the choice to live or to die.”

One cold night, I was sitting alone in front of my tent under the half moon when I saw a hooded figure on the white mule of the prophet that was a precious gift from Muqawqis. I was wondering who could be this strange visitor.
Then as the figure came closer, I recognized that it was a female figure.
Then the unmistakable velvet voice of Rekiyyah bint Abu Bakr greeted me.
"Salam Alaikum."
'“Wa alaikum salam sister.”
I was gaping and gasping in awe. Who am I to be honoured by such a highly revered visitor.
“Alhamdulillaah!” I exclaimed inwardly.
I hurriedly took her by her slim hands into my tent. I did not want anyone to see her.

If any serious publisher can commission me, I can make it a full length novel.

By the way the ebook version and hardcover edition of my Scarlet Tears of London is available.

Re: Unveil Me, My Love by Orikinla(m): 10:22am On Oct 10, 2006
I am contacting Islamic scholars to see that everything in my historical fiction will not contrary to what they also addressed in their studies. Most of the facts were from their lslamic texts.

Aishah (ra) was widowed at the tender age of 18! She would not have remained without love till death. She did not become an Islamic nun. Let us be realistic.

Here is another extract.

The father now seemed to have more need of her divine gifts in the absence of the prophet ((pbuh). I also feared that the caliph would never allow an Abyssinian to marry his beloved Aishah.

The Three Maidens In White

I was feverish for some days and I was seeing and hearing things as my body shook and it was as if I was no longer on earth. I was used to these fevers. I always fell ill once in a year and I would be rejuvenated afterwards. I took my usual medicine made from bitter herbs prepared by Sunniyah.
“May be you are homesick,” she said.
I did not reply. I only nodded.
I have spent over ten years in the service of the prophet (pbuh) and survived many battles. And I have been even more comfortable here than my years at home. But I was missing my mother. Again, I was discovering certain things and the parchment I received in my last pilgrimage to Jerusalem was now like my talisman. And even the prophet (pbuh) did not deny the truth. That it was the Jews who told him about Allaha whom they called Allah. We all agreed that he is the one and only supreme God and the maker of all things visible and invisible in heaven and on earth. But, I wanted to return to Jerusalem and ask more questions on how the sacred word of God could become flesh and was the Jew whom the bearers of the sacred cross called the only begotten Son of God. Because, the Qur'an said this was not so. Why?

It was about the eleventh hour of the day when I was half asleep. Sunniyah was not with me. Then I saw smoke rising from the floor and soon the smoke enveloped the room. I was wondering what could be the meaning of this. Then I saw them. They were all in white. Like the minstrels of Wahy (Divine Revelations). Three of them coming from a mosque and I saw other buildings behind them.
Then suddenly I did not see them again. I closed my eyes and when I opened them Sunniyah had come with some fruits for me.
“You were hallucinating again,” she said.
“I had a vision,” I said.
She was washing the fruits and only glanced at me.
“Yes. These fevers come with such hallucinations and visions. Don’t worry Hassan, you will soon be on your feet and dancing with me.”
“You are not the only one who can see things,” I said and closed my eyes again.
“All right. We all have dreams and visions. My dear brother, what did you see?”
“I saw three maidens in white in a mist of smoke.”
“Where?”
She stopped what she was doing and came closer to where I lay on my mat.
“Right here while you were not here. When I was half awake.”
“The three daughters of…………”
“You know them?”
“Yes. They only appear to you when you are ready to…”
“I am not ready to die now.”
She laughed and her voice rang in my ears.
“Oh, no Hassan! You are not about to die. If you were old then that would have been the message. But when they appear to young men, they mean well.”
“And what does it mean?”
“That your bride is coming soon!”
Sunniyah smiled and brought me three fruits in a bowl. She offered me one and I accepted it. “Eat my brother. The apple will revive you,” she said.
“But, I don’t want to marry here,” I said.
“Why?” She asked.
“I prefer one of our own maidens in Abyssinia,” I replied.
“Arabian women are the loveliest of all women in the world,” she sang.
She rose to her feet and danced for a moment.
Yes. She was lovely. Yes, very lovely. But she said she would never marry and loved her calling as a stargazer. But I knew she was the comforter of some men in Arabia.
“Your mother would be happy to be the mother in-law of a beautiful Arabian princess,” she said.
I sighed and we were silent for a while.
“The sun is going home and I must return before darkness covers my path,” she said.
“I wish I could escort you,” I said.
“Trouble not yourself. You need to rest until you are fully revived. “
She held my hands for a while and murmured her usual inaudible prayer.
“You will sleep well tonight my brother.”
As she left, I felt like the loneliest man on earth.

NSNA,
I thank God I am in contact with a very good publisher and they are reviewing the story.
Amazon will distribute it online once it is published.

I want to be motivated to write the full-length novel.
The research has been very exciting.

I agree that it will be a bestseller. But that is precisely what makes the book so dangerous in Nigeria.
Re: Unveil Me, My Love by Orikinla(m): 11:58pm On Oct 10, 2006
Seun,
The Muslims on Nairaland don't see anything contrary to the historical facts of Islam in my story. I am actually working in accordance with the knowledge of the backgrounds of the religion as I found out that Allah is even only the Arabic name of Allaha the Aramaic name of God and you know that Aramaic was a dominant language for Jewish worship and Jesus spoke Aramaic.

Re: Unveil Me, My Love by Orikinla(m): 11:45am On Oct 11, 2006
Debqueen,

Unveil Me, My Love is more than meets the eye.

Something just happened that scared me since I started writing this story.

The name of the narrator is Hasan and I just chose that name.
Then last night as I was researching on the scandalous allegations of Adultery against Aishah (ra) the youngest and most beloved wife of the prophet (pbuh) I discovered that there was in fact a poet named HassAn who was one of the accusers of Aishah and the prophet was very close to his poet laureate HassAn.

Now read what I wrote from the facts:

“Hasan?”
“Yes, Rekiyyah”
“Remember when Aishah was accused of adultery?”
“Yes? What about it?” I asked.
“You were the suspect.”
I wanted to laugh out aloud, but I laughed inwardly.
“When we have not even kissed?” I replied.
“Aishah survived the ordeal,” she said.

I did not want to discuss the circumstances of that scandal again. Because, after all the accusers of Aishah were reprimanded, the prophet (pbuh) did something that really baffled me. Because one of the chief accusers of Aishah, my namesake HassAn got what I have always called the most benevolent punishment in our history. Why did the prophet (pbuh) give HassAn the great castle of BIr HA in Medina? For what? To thank him for accusing his beloved youngest wife of adultery? So that HassAn the poet would not deride her in his lampoons as he derided Safwan? And as if that was not enough, the prophet (pbuh) also gave his poet laureate the beautiful Coptic maiden Shirln whilst the prophet (pbuh) married her sister Maryam. Then in appreciation HassAn wrote eulogies on the beauty, chastity and graceful figure of Aishah. This was one of the reasons I made up my mind to return home.  Sunniyah told me Aisha had forgiven HassAn.
Hmm.
“Aishah did not like that HassAn should be rebuked in her presence, and she used to say: It was he who wrote this verse also: Verily, my father and my mother are all meant for defending the honour of Muhammad,” Sunniyah revealed.

Everything is developing as if I was there when all these things happened.
So the only person that did not exist in this story is my fictional Hassan the narrator. Suddenly now I have discovered that a poet with the same name really existed in the court of the prophet (pbuh).

I believe I am destinied to write this story.
May God help me.

I have completed research and here is the extract from the final part of my historical romance.

The full content will be available in the online edition of the novelette from 49 cents.

I warned Sunniyah not to join forces with Aishah, because opposition to the authority of Imam Ali was against the will of Allah and the Qur'an already commanded:
"And stay quietly in your houses, and make not a dazzling display, like that of the former Times of Ignorance." (Al-Quran 33:33)
I ignored the temptation to return to Makkah and help Aishah and even convince her to flee to Abyssinia and be my wife.

Imam Ali won the Battle of Jamal and arrested Aishah. Sunniyah said she was detained within the quarters of her abode where she would remain till her last days on earth.

It was a great pity. To be deprived of the pleasures of her childhood and youth and now never allowed to remarry. I felt sorry for her. If only we had eloped when we had the chance. If only the prophet (pbuh) had divorced her. If only…

I became a Christian after searching the sacred scriptures and my eyes were opened to see the truth. And I preferred to walk in the footsteps of the Messiah Isa (A.S.). And live the rest of my days on earth sharing this truth with my wife, children and others.

I am happy to tell you that the first edition of Unveil Me My Love is ready after the approval of my editor on http://www.lulu.com/content/474814.

The novelette will also be published in Nigeria and launched during the celebration of the 2007 Valentine's Day by the infinite grace of God who has given me the power to write it and publish it first.

This is perhaps the first historical romance written by a Nigerian in Nigeria on the last days of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).

I won't say anything more until you read it first and you tell me what you think.

Lies?

Product of a research work that enlightened scholars of Islam have previewed it.

The only fictional characters are the narrator Hassan, Sunniyah, Rekiyyah, Babbi Olamide, Anita and Fatima the editor of the Al-Sharq Al-Awsat in the UK.

Everything on Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) in Unveil Me My Love are based on the facts of Islamic history and cannot be disputed. Hassan only claimed to be an eye witness and told us how he fell in love with the celebrated beautiful and fearless youngest wife of the prophet Aishah who even led a rebellion against the authority of Imam Ali and she was defeated and put under house arrest and never allowed to remarry.
Aishah was only 18 when Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) died.

Here are some extracts.

This is a fictional love story based on the last days of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and all the quotations from the Hadith are correct.
It does not contain any profanity or any distortion of the Hadith.
All the references to the Prophet are based on historical facts from the research of the author.

I was on my way to see the editor of Al-Sharq Al-Awsat when I saw the crowd of hooded figures of people in burqas at the Trafalgar Square with placards displaying messages of their protest against the controversial content of Unveil Me My Love. Some called it fake Arabian Nights pornography. I was amused as I regarded the spectacle of over 500 people in burqas in the midst of the pigeons and some of the pigeons even perched on the heads of the protesters. It was quite a sight. And as I drove by I hailed them as if I supported them.

“Babbi, Islamic scholars have confirmed that Aisha bint Talha was actually the niece of Aisha bint Abu Bakr. She was the grand daughter of the first Caliph Abu Bakr. And there was no record of any Rekiyyah among the daughters of the first Caliph Abu Bakr (ra),” said Fatima.
“Of course, this is the reason why the debate on this manuscript is good. There are so many things that most Muslims are ignorant of. And the worst form of ignorance is to be ignorant of the truth. And we Christians believe that there are many distortions of the truth in Islam. The Qur'an says Ishmael was the son that Abraham wanted to sacrifice to God. But the Holy Bible said it was Isaac. The worst distortion was on the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ which the Qur'an lied about,” I said.
Fatima just shook her head and sighed.

The Al-Sharq Al-Awsat wanted me to permit them to publish the Arabic version of the story. I said that would depend on the outcome of my discussion with the publisher we have accepted to publish it to confirm the copyrights for the translations.

As I was driving back to West End, I saw a banner with the following message written on it:
Jesus said, "Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."~ John 8:32.

The news of Unveil Me My Love was spreading like bushfire in the dry season in my village. But for security reasons, I became incommunicado and preferred to stay somewhere in Norway whilst my publishers and publicists did their best to diffuse the religious tension over the publication of Unveil Me My Love.

Basic,
I appreciate people reading the whole novelette first before you critique it.

My editor grew up in Kano and well educated at the Ahmadu Bello University and has studied the history of Islam in depth. And this is what he said of Unveil Me My Love:

HOW DID YOU COME ABOUT THIS?!
It's simply earthquake-inducing!
Please let's talk. Wanna sell it over the 'Net?

He is one of our notable members of the Association of Nigerian Authors (NTA) and has a literary programme on TV and writes for The Guardian of Nigeria and his word on my writings matters more.

I deliberately stopped the book after 38 pages. Because, going further could lead to revelations which I feared the unenlightened would misinterprete.

Just read it first before judging me.

Hi Orikinla. You could beep me when next I'm online. I'm concerned from what I read in excerpts that your effort here is not much towards great fiction but great history. How true is that?

And how much are you ready to be a literary historian rather than a fictionist who only uses history as a footstool.

You should read Salman Rushdie's SATANIC VERSES and his THE MOOR'S LAST SIGH. All pieces of history but written in great prose fiction. This notwitstanding the irrational response to his works in the arab world. How prepared are you to take responsibility for re-writing history? I would say that it is far easier to get a way with a history well written as fiction, as long as it is entertaining. But I may be wrong.

You must write, and you must be responsible as much to your readers who want great writing, and those who want (historical) conspiracies. So far, you seem to care more for the conspiracy than the prose work. Here too I might be wrong. Enlighten me.

Gwatala,
You read me heart and soul.

The depth of this work wanted to consume me as I saw myself taken back in time as I researched for this historical fiction. All the characters jumped out from the past and were beckoning at me.

I did not want it to even be a novelette. I wanted to write a simple romantic short story on the veil and ended up unveiling other things.

I did not want to concentrate on the prose much. Because it is meant to provoke debate even for the ordinary man on the street to understand.

I am moving away from the elitist to the street.

I have wriitten all the impressionist prose in the 80s and won some prizes and got invited to high places where the poor are not invited to come and kept in five star hotels where the poor are not welcome and I have become a rebel against the elites, because the elites ruined Nigeria.
You will begin to see them from 2007 by the infinite grace of God.

I don't want to be another Chinua Achebe or Wole Soyinka.
I want to be Orikinla Osinachi.
A writer for the masses.

I don't want to write to impress others but to express the state of the human nature stripped stark naked on the street online and offline.

I enjoyed performing on the streets as a child in Obalende in Lagos and I have only moved on to the Internet.
I am O-RI-KI-NLA exactly what it means in Yoruba.

Thanks for your objective analysis.

Anyway, I've read your extracts and am interested now in reading the rest. However, I am very paranoic about paying with a credit card online these days (I'm getting so many pop-ups on my computer warning me about this and that). Still wondering whether to purchase the e-version ---

Lulu.com and Amazon.com are reliable and the details of your credit card account are safe in their records. I have accounts with them and no cause to worry since I have been associated with them and others have not complained. And they don't joke with their corporate reputation and security.

I advise you get a gmail account or upgrade on Yahoo to prevent 419 and other common phishing mails. And you can block pop-ups.
