Group canvasses for Yoruba autonomy
Cover Stories Jan 12, 2010 By Ola Ajayi

IBADAN—PROMINENT sons and daughters of Yoruba under the aegis of Atayero have set up a committee to agitate for a confederacy which would give autonomy to the Yoruba nation.

The committee was set up yesterday in Ibadan after a prolonged deliberation on how the Yoruba nation could get off the claws of its oppressors and have a remarkable progress.

Many contributors lamented disunity among leaders in the zone. A man that represented the youths gave a stern warning to the older generation in the zone that they needed to act fast before they took up arms like the Niger
Delta militants.

Meanwhile the founder of the Oodua Peoples Congress(OPC) Dr. Fredrick Fasheun warned the nation to handle the case of ailing President Umaru Yar’Adua with caution so that the restiveness of the Niger Delta would not resurface.

this is because of the global economic downturn. ppl are getting more and more desperate and looking for answers. any tribe that wants to be autonomous is fine by me, but every tribe in nigeria is headed by the same thieving illiterate shortsighted and self centered system that has castrated the country as a whole and that tribe as a unit, so why create 250 bleeped up countries when we have 1 bleeped up country to be proud of?

they don't.
most yoruba's a cosmopol. educated and striving to attain a middle class status in a increasingly functioning nigeria and southwest.
like all other nigerians.

tribalism and seperatism are the calls of the poor, the illiterate, the unemployed and a generation past

there's a new nigeria raising and an old nigeria dying.

Nigerians keep denying the obvious fact that the nation will rest in peace in no distant time. The appointed time has come for all to go back to their tents.

Well said the same OPC that terrorizes yorubaland.

Only the poor, the illiterate, the unemployed keep tribal political parties relevant because educated people like Soyinka,Fela Gani and co . . . dont listen to the trash.

No one pays attention to OPC. not even OONI of ife or Alaafin

Is Becomerich behind this dumb idea?
Re: Group Canvasses For Yoruba Autonomy by OAM4J: 9:03pm On Jan 13, 2010
This is not about becomerich idea. A prominent Yoruba man actually told me there are lots of underground meetings going on.

Apart from this one reported here by Vanguard, There was one called and held at Ikenne home of the Awolowos,

Another one was held at Ife recently with the Oni of Ife including the President of Benin republic Dr. Thomas Boni Yayi. And It was agreed that the final position of the Yorubas will be made at
Benin Republic (yeah, you heard me right, Benin Republic) by march this year, where all views and opinions will be harmonized (including becomerich Egbe omo oduduwa grin)

http://www.tribune.com.ng/03012010/news/news4.html

So its not a joke. I guess the recent happenings in the country/presidency is fueling it, like I was told, the Yorubas don't want to be cut unawared.

Hmm. I dey luku I dey lafu! grin

I don't know why some Nigerians don't like facing the truth openly and squarely. Something tells me that this is much more credible than all the "Naija forever" lies.

Good news though! I hope MASSOB will start making real consultations and real plans instead of some stu.p'id rants, slogans and speeches. grin grin

I pity whoever will be caught unawares.

The only way we can belong together is in a united Southern Nigeria.

A southern Nigeria Republic will be more acceptable to the Yoruba than a silly union with Republic of Benin. The leaders going to Benin are the ones that have lost relevance amongst the Yoruba and are seeking international alliances. Yorubas have more in common with the mid-west and the east than any group in Benin Republic.

We love our culture and we try to preserve it, even via Nollywood. Why do you think Yoruba movie is thriving.

Yep English movie is dominated by the Easterners. But who cares. it is the same fucking story of violence, kidnapping, and gun touting that is common in Igbo land. Igbos hate themselves, and their language will soon disappear. Up Yorubas. Please get out more movies and ensure quality, we will buy it, because you have good stories to write. And thanks for answering your original name. We all know of Igbos who hate their culture. Lately they begin to answer Nwachukwu or Chinyere. It was always, Jenifer, Linda, Genevieve (don’t worry girl, I like your performance regardless, I am just making a point), etc. I wonder what is wrong with Chidi, Uche, etc? On one side, I don’t need to blame the Igbos too much, since they have no clue what a large society is.

Let Igbo man or worman from Asaba go to Enugu and see how much of an Igbo he or she is. Please do us a favor, vacate Lagos, and take your wealth with it. And just see how the Yorubas will take over and create a model of a nation, instead of you from the East. You are even scared to go to your own land for anything. Oh! it is the Federal government. Then, what the hell did your governors do to improve your people. The idiot Kalu got some nerves to be writing in the Sun, and yet he was the governor of his state in the East, he has nothing to show for.

My advice to the Yoruba state in Nigeria is to start coming together regardless of party afflication and start running those states as a country. We know how to choose our leaders. We won’t have 1000’s contesting to lead. We also know how to tell our leaders to go to hell, if they don’t perform. Igbo people hate Nigeria, and that is why you would not see them fight for any civil rights. They are there to pillage the country.

Hey! a friend noted the other day that Igbos have been stashing their money abroad. They wanted to exploit every other areas in Nigeria before they pack back to their pigin holes, where they belong.

Nigerian fought the Biafrans because they couldn’t grow another day without Biafrans. The have sacrificed a great deal to incoporate Ndigbo into Nigeria sphere and without Ndigbo, the economy of Nigeria today will stand still despite huge oil productions. These and many more are the reasons Nigerians don’t want Ndigbo to have their own state.

Let us face reality folks! Be honest with yourselves, what is it that the Yorubas offer Nigeria today?

Lagos is the only city that thrives in Yoruba land, if really Lagos is in Yoruba land. Clearly, the reason Lagos thrives today is because of Ndigbo business operatives. So, my good Yoruba friends, feel free to carve your own state any time you want. I don’t see any meaningful Nigerian stopping you. Biafrans will support you. As a matter of fact, the rest of Nigeria will pay you handsome sum for you to go your separate ways. I am really suprised it is has taken you so long to realise your options. Have you guys finished looting Nigeria or have the Hausa/Fulani administrations locked the doors? Oh!, I get your reason, access to banks have been disabled by the governor of central bank.

I shouldn’t wast too uch time on this issue. Those Yorubas asking for their own state are bunch of dreamers. However, dream or no dream, note that the Nigerians lost huge resources fighting the Biafrans because they knew and still know the worthy of Biafrans. Yorubas are not Biafrans in any way. Yorubas are not even close to Biafran wisdom, intelligence, resourcefulness, agression and prowness.

In my time, I saw how a notable Yoruba business man won a presidential election fair and square and the office of the presidency was openly taken away from him. Requiring visas to go visiting your in-laws. If you don't like them, you can at least claim you were denied a visa.

On a serious note; those agitating for a new state are the corrupt leaders who no longer have any relevance in Nigeria and think that they will have some relevance in a Yoruba state.

Same place it left Nigerians married to foreigners. That to me is the least of the problems.

My own concern is, how are we sure the same corrupt Yoruba people currently leading now (the Daniels & the Akalas of Yorubaland) will not be the one directing the affairs of a new Yoruba state?
