The Massacre Of Christians In Iraq by TheClown: 7:59am On Nov 17, 2010
On the eve of All Saints' Day, 1st Nov, 2010, the faithful gathered at the Assyrian Catholic Church of Our Lady of Salvation in Baghdad.

As Father Wassim Sabih finished the Mass, eight al Qaeda stormed in, began shooting and forced him to the floor. As the priest pleaded that his parishioners be spared, they executed him.

When security forces broke in, the killers threw grenades to finish off the surviving Christians and detonated explosive-laden vests to kill the police. The toll was 46 parishioners and two priests killed, 78 others wounded, many in critical condition after losing limbs.

Within 48 hours, al Qaeda in Mesopotamia issued a bulletin: ``All Christian centers, organizations and institutions, leaders and followers, are legitimate targets.''

It was the worst massacre of Christians yet. For Assyrian Catholics known as Chaldeans, whose ancestors were converted by St. Thomas the Apostle, the U.S. war of liberation has been seven years of hell. Estimates of the number of Christians in Iraq in 2003 vary from 800,000 to 1.5 million. But hundreds of thousands have fled since then. Seven of the 14 churches in Baghdad have closed, and two-thirds of the city's 500,000 Christians are gone.

While Saddam Hussein, a secularist, had protected religious minorities, Muslim vigilantes -- Shia, Sunni and Kurd, as well as al Qaeda -- have attacked Christians who have endured kidnappings, pillage, despoils, beheadings and assassinations. And what has happened to this Christian community must be marked down as one of the predictable and predicted consequences of America's war in Iraq.

In editor Tom Fleming's Chronicles, just days before President Bush ordered the invasion, columnist Wayne Allensworth warned pointedly:

``Iraqi Christians fear they will be the first victims of a war that might dismember their country, unleashing ethnic and religious conflicts that Baghdad had previously suppressed. Tariq, a Christian merchant in Baghdad, told the French weekly Marianne that `If the United States goes to war against our country . . . (t)he Wahhabis and other fundamentalists will take advantage of the confusion to throw us out of our homes, destroy us as a community and declare Iraq an Islamic nation.'

``If recent history is any indication, Tariq has cause for concern,`` wrote Allensworth. ``The Shiite uprising in southern Iraq during the first Gulf War -- encouraged and then abandoned by Washington -- targeted Christians. Many Christians had supported Saddam's regime . . . as their best hope of survival in the Islamic Middle East.''

``We let the Shia genie out of the bottle,`` said a rueful Yitzhak Rabin after Israel's invasion of Lebanon gave birth to Hezbollah.

We Americans did the same with our wars against Saddam's Iraq.

Why is Christianity being murdered in its cradle by Muslim fanatics?

Multiple reasons. Islamic militancy. The rise of ethnic nationalism that conflates tribal and religious identity. Hatred of America for its domination of the region, for our war on terror that they see as a war on Islam and for our support of Israel in its suppression of the Palestinians. Christians across the Middle East are now seen as both members of an alien religion and a fifth column of the Crusaders inside their camp.

Paul Marshall of Hudson Institute's Center for Religious Freedom warns that we may be in for another great wave of persecution, ``as Christians flee the Palestinian areas, Lebanon, Turkey, and Egypt.''

Christians are gone from Jerusalem, gone from Nazareth, gone from Bethlehem. From Egypt to Iran, the Vatican counts 17 million left. ``Across the Middle East,`` writes Robert Fisk in The Independent, ``it is the same story of despairing -- sometimes frightened -- Christian minorities, and of an exodus that reaches almost Biblical proportions.``

America remains the most Christianized of the Western nations. Yet, the protests of the White House, State Department and major media over the eradication of Christianity in the Middle East is muted. Of what worth these wars for democracy if we end up freeing fanatics to annihilate communities or expel populations of our own Christian brothers and sisters across the Middle East.

what happened in iraq is very sad and unfortunate.but let me also add that the article above does not help the situation or the christians in particular.it is adding fuel to fire.it is making things look like muslims are targetting christians everywhere in the middle east and that isnt true.israel,a state, has done more harm to both christians and muslims and have limited their freedom to worship.take note that about 25% of palestinians are christians.there are palestinian families that predate both Jesus and Moses in palestine and have lived there since time immemorial.israel has displaced them, seized their land and rendered them refugees.many muslim countries in the middle east have churches and christians are free.take iran as an example of tolerance.iran has the oldest churches in the world.

keep in mind that the evil terror of al qaeda has not only targetted christians but muslims also.the number of shia muslims that have being killed is pitiful.al qaeda even target their fellow sunnis that dont agree with their hate and criminality.islam has nothing to do with al qaeda.

Israel is the root cause of global terrorism: Baroness Tonge
By staff and agencies

Liberal Democrat Peer Jenny Tonge says Israel is the cause of global terrorism and problems like Kashmir and Palestine are alienating Muslims all over the world.

Speaking at the Strategic Defense and Security Review on Sunday at the House of Lords in London, she said, “The ill-treatment of Palestinians by Israel is held up as an example of how the West treats Muslims and is at the root cause of terrorism worldwide.”

“Even (the Quartet's Middle East envoy) Tony Blair has now admitted this publicly,” she noted.

Baroness Tonge told the House of Lords that Israel's behavior toward Palestinians goes unchecked, possibly because of “Holocaust guilt” or “the power of the pro-Israel lobby” in the UK and the United States.

Commenting on two unresolved conflicts in the Islamic world, Tonge said, “It is a disgrace to us all that problems such as Kashmir and Palestine are still alienating Muslims all over the world.”

She also attacked Britain’s coalition government for its anti-Iran policies and its close ties with Israel.

She went on say that “cynics might think Britain is at the ready to help Israel attack Iran.”

“Why do we let it continue? Is it Holocaust guilt? We should be guilty -- of course we should. Is it the power of the pro-Israel lobby here and in the USA?”

“Or is it the need, maybe, to have an aircraft carrier called Israel in the Middle East, from which to launch attacks on countries such as Iran? The cynic might think that that is why HMS Ark Royal and the Harriers (fighter jets) can be dispensed with (as part of UK defense cuts) -- (since) we already have a static ‘Ark Royal’ in a strategic position, armed to the teeth and ready to fight, provided that we do not offend Israel,” she said.

The Jewish Talmud, in the book of Sanhedrin folios 56a-60b, sets forth seven
laws which it insists non-Jews must follow on pain of death (see also: Sanhedrin
20b; 88b; 97a-99b; 105a). These are called the “Noahide Laws”. Rabbinical scholars
fabricated these laws, in part, as a response to Christianity. Jewish leaders have
already introduced these laws into the laws of the United States of America.28
Christians, Hindus, Moslems, Buddhists, etc. who refuse to abandon their religious
beliefs and become slaves of the Jews will all be killed. Anyone who questions
Judaism will be killed. Anyone who disobeys the commands of the Jews will be
    killed.

Jewish leaders are attempting to persuade Gentiles to adopt the “Noahide Laws”.
These laws forbid Gentiles to worship idols. Jews view Christianity, Islam,
Hinduism, Buddhism, and all other religions as forbidden religions (Zechariah 14:9).
Jews are planning a nuclear war, which will turn night into day, and will eat the flesh

Jews insist that Gentiles obey the seven Noahide Laws—the seven Mitzvoth of

Moslems, Buddhists, etc. who refuse to bow down and worship the Jewish King, and
who refuse to renounce their religions and obey the Noahide Laws and the Rabbis

This is one of the main problem with muslim apologists.

The topic is about Al Qaeda killing christians in Iraq, and it took you all but 2 sentences before you flipped the script and started talking about "Isreal" and "Occupation of 'Palestinian' land". I applaud you for denoucing the act but you should've simply stopped there instead deploying the popular tactic of deflecting to Isreal whenever accusations are pointed against any islamic republic.

Furthermore, you're citing Iran as an example of tolerance?  shocked oh dear, this topic is too serious for these kinds of jokes oh. I watched a documentary on this "oldest church" just a few weeks ago actually. You herald it as a symbol of tolerance. 'Iran' and 'religious tolerance', an oxymoron if I ever saw one. The same Iran constantly in the news for human rights violations. I'll stop now cos this isn't the politics/foreign affairs section.

More food for thought:

The new, emerging global order

http://www.crescenticit.c, erging-global-order.html

Nature abhors a vacuum, especially a political vacuum. New players emerge to fill it in. The global order established by the victors of the Second World War is not only crumbling, it is almost dead; only its last rites need to be performed. Into this vacuum has stepped in more confident and assertive new players: Iran, Turkey, Brazil and Venezuela. There are others on the scene: China, Russia and to a lesser extent India but just like the declining power they hope to replace, they too are predatory in nature and act much like the fading “superpower”.

The demise of the old global order began with the decline of the self-proclaimed “sole superpower”: the US. Two decades earlier, Washington had no rivals and leading hawks, better known as neo-conservatives (neocons), boldly proclaimed that America should not allow any power — friend or foe — to emerge to challenge its global dominance. Its hegemonic stranglehold was to be maintained through massive military spending and endless wars. These policy prescriptions were outlined in a document called the Project for the New American Century (PNAC). The neocons asserted that like the 20th century, the 21st century too must belong to America. To ensure this, the US must use lethal military force pre-emptively.

The end of the Cold War should have ushered in peace; instead the US has continued massive military spending, outstripping every other country’s budget. Today, its annual military spending at $750 billion, disingenuously referred to as the “defence” budget, is more than the rest of the world’s total military spending combined. The neocons got their wish: exorbitant military spending and endless wars, but they have run up against the steely determination of people not willing to bow to others. America’s first mistake was to invade Afghanistan, not to conquer but “liberate”, in American mythology. The overthrow of the Taliban was easy; after losing a mere 13 soldiers despite killing tens of thousands of innocent Afghans, butchered by 1,000-pound bombs dropped from a height of 40,000 feet, the Taliban were driven from power. The apparently easy victory puffed up US military and political planners so much that they started to believe in the myth of US invincibility. Plans formulated before George W. Bush entered the White House were now implemented. Iraq was the next target on the neocons’ wish list because of its vast oil reserves and existential threat to Israel’s security. Syria, Iran and Pakistan were to be sorted out next. All this was also intended to ensure Zionist Israel’s dominance in the region.

The only trouble with this scenario was that unknown to the Americans, both the Iraqis and the Afghans turned out to be far tougher and more resilient adversaries than they had imagined. Nine years later, Afghanistan has turned out to be the biggest disaster the US military has faced, even eclipsing Vietnam in terms of spending. The two wars have cost more than $2 trillion and rising; the crashing US economy is only being kept alive by massive borrowing.

The neocons’, most of them Zionists, wish for endless war has been fulfilled but at the cost of bankrupting the US. Its chances of recovery are slim. On the global stage the US no longer carries much weight. This is what the bold nuclear deal by Turkey, Iran and Brazil indicates. A number of South American countries are also now thumbing their noses at the US, something unthinkable merely a decade ago.

But the real change is in the assertiveness of Turkey, Iran and Brazil. The credit for this goes to Islamic Iran. Turkey under Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has also shown that bold leadership energizes people. He has won the respect and admiration of Muslims and indeed other people worldwide because of his bold stand against Zionist gangsterism.

This is how it should be. Courageous leadership can change the political landscape quickly. What is needed is for these countries to challenge the global order at a more strategic level. Anachronistic institutions like the UN Security Council must be abolished. It is unacceptable for five countries, all of them ruling with failed Western ideologies, to decide how the rest of the world should conduct itself.

The de jure new order must become de facto. Muslims must take the lead to implement a fairer and more equitable world order free from exploitation and oppression. A better world is possible.

one should pity the author of this crap, were was he when his christian america massacred muslims in Iraq? probably poping champangne on the death of each muslim, but as things stand, any one with common sense should understand the bolded part of the statement indicates who is to blame, the Americans who lied to invade another country with simmering ethnic pressures, rather than act with the UN on the matter, the devil incarnate Bush rushed to murder people just because there were muslims, It surprised me when mad Christian fanatics when celebrating Davids'(Bush- son of man?) Murder in Iraq as being against Muslims, now everyone is a living witness to the wntom destruction a Christian Fundamentalist like Bush has Caused, the real picture is Both Muslims and Christians ane even other entities in Iraq have suffered all sought of loss and Carnage, all because someone saw them as lesser being whose lands can be invaded for untrue reasons. This should sereve as a lesson to people of all faith, when truth is Ignored then any one can suffer.

there are many islamic republics.and for one authro to hold all muslims accountable for the actions of just one group is not acceptable.i pointed out israel, not because i wanted to "deflect" to israel.i only cited israel because israel acts officially as a state and carries out its attrocities without quarter of condemnation and propaganda the author of the article is directing at muslims.more condemnation should be directed at israel because its acts officially and with impunity.al qaeda is not an official representing islam or muslims generally.

ofcourse,i'm not suprised at your criticism of iran because you have being fed well with western propaganda.for your information, the church you are refering to is not the only church and i dont even know what you are talking about.if you know iran well, you will at least know the number of armenian orthodox christian churches in iran.there are many and not just one.

Propaganda is being manufactured for the consumption of the masses in these times. The evil ones want to mislead us by feeding us lies by way of disinformation. Most of the propaganda you've read about Iran, is formulated to gain your support for the devil's nefarious acts. Think about it; weapons of mass destruction, building nuclear bombs, 9-11, all faked [IMHO].
