20 cars, buildings vandalised in fresh Lagos clash

No fewer than 20 cars and six houses were vandalised as youths from Olusosun, in Kudirat Abiola Way, Ikeja, Lagos and area boys from Ojota Park, clashed in the area on Wednesday.

Vandalised vehicles and restaurant.

Some of the residents of the area were also injured in the mayhem, which started around 7am.

Although none of the residents of the area could give an account of how the violence, which started on Monday snowballed into absolute mayhem, PUNCH METRO gathered that the attacks were politically motivated.

A spokesperson of youths in the area, Mr. Daniel Ejide, who spoke to our correspondent, said the mayhem had political motive.

"When they came they were asking, is this not where the Action Congress of Nigeria supporters are? We all ran away as they were wielding machetes, which they used in damaging vehicles and shattering the windows of the buildings, including a church and a mosque," he said.

The Head of the Celestial Church of Christ, Olusosun Parish, which was damaged in the crisis, F.S. Agunbiade, however, expressed doubt that the mayhem was politically motivated.

"This whole thing started during a carnival of the youths of the area. When they came initially, they destroyed the windshields of the cars in the church compound. They later reinforced this morning and destroyed more cars on the mosque and restaurant premises, they destroyed everything in sight," he said.

The leader of the Olusosun youths, Kayus Onye, who was also injured, said the attackers were led by a policeman from Alausa Police Station.

Other eyewitnesses corroborated his claim, saying the policeman was a well known person in the area.

Onye expressed fear that the hoodlums might return to attack them again. "They said they are still coming this night (on Wednesday), we have informed some government officials and they have promised that they would protect us," he said.

A victim, Christopher Onyekaba, said he was in front of his shop when he was attacked by the hoodlums.

"I did not know anything was about to happen, I just saw many of them as they descended on this area and before I could escape, I was matcheted," he said

However, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Samuel Jinadu, said the crisis had been brought under control.

"We saw that many cars had been damaged. But we have brought the problem under control. The people are safe now," he told our correspondent on the phone.

He also said one suspect had been arrested in connection with the attack. When our correspondent asked if he was aware of the allegation that the attack was led by a policeman, he said it was not possible.

"How can a policeman lead an attack like that? What did he have to do with the people? What would be his own business with them? I am not aware of that but I am assuring you I would look into the matter," he said.

What is the connection between the boy in that picture and the cars, 'restaurant' at the background?
If you want to convince my likes dont use this type of pictures. That pix is CorelDrawed or Photoshopped.

I said it . . . . Almajiri's are now the latest in the minds of bigoted Nigerians out there. Northern riots --- Almajiris are blamed even when NO REPORTS made such connection. So since the new OJUJU CALABAR are the Almajiris one should understand the @OP's need to inject Almajiri's into this and every other riot in Nigeria -- even those in the South East.

You must be foolish to say such because there are amajiris in the South West too. Amajiris are not only peculiar to Hausa-Fulani if you don't know besides, I may choose to refer to alaye as amajiri after all they serve the same function under different aliases.
