sapien:That's exactly my point. In more developed climes, women who embrace their sexuality and enjoy sex aren't shamed for it. But in Africa, once a guy is ready to settle down, he begins to look for a virgin. Even those who settle for non virgins act as if their decision is some magnanimity that women ought to be grateful for. It's an unequal playing field for women in Africa. The bias in society is such that when a woman has sex, she's viewed as 'less than'; while when a man has sex, he's patted on the back. If sex were a currency, it's women who would be spending anytime they had sex? Spending their dignity in the eyes of society. Because in the end, they're the ones left morally depleted. So holding back, and giving sparingly even when in love, is just the deserved instinct. So, even though both parties enjoy sex (maybe equally), the fallout is uneven. Once we overcome this crazy bias, and a woman isn't seen to be "shamed" or "defiled" whenever she has sex; and when people stop referring to busy vaginas as tired pool-sized pussies; then she can participate freely without being persuaded by any other incentives except for the enjoyment of the act itself. 6 Likes 2 Shares |

DrinkLimca:English teacher! Could is correct in that context. It's a modal verb (still auxiliary) showing that there may be conditions attached. Eg: They could always learn (if they wanted to). If nature expected women to be the cooks in the world by default, they would have been born with the skill. A natural instinct. But they weren't. It's a skill that anyone can learn. |

But how can people still have these expectations of women when even governments the world over have adjusted themselves to more humane structures. It used to be that a Monarch would lord it over his subjects. But through time, it's accepted that human beings are not made for that kind of treatment. Now, democracy is being embraced and autocratic governments are seen as evil. Why are we insisting on keeping the evil in homes? Families should also transition to a more democratic model. It might not have been so in biblical times but we haven't let the bible stop us from abolishing other distasteful practices like slave trade. Why is there suddenly a line? 9 Likes 3 Shares |
