Five Kano Pillars players have been shot by gunmen in an attack on the club's entourage as they travelled to Owerri for the start of the new Nigerian Premier League season. "Five players were injured from gunshots - Gambo, Ogbonaya, Eneji Otekpa, Murtala Adamu, and Moses Ekpai," the club wrote on Twitter. "The gunmen also snatched handsets and other valuables from the players". Saturday's match against Heartland has been postponed indefinitely. Kano were travelling in a bus carrying 25 people, including 18 players, when the incident occurred at about 13:15 local time. The five injured players are receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre in Lokoja. Kano were preparing to begin the defence of their Nigerian title, having started their season with a victory over Al Malakia in their African Champions League preliminary round last weekend. It is not yet clear whether Kano's Champions fixture against Moghreb Athletic Tetouane on 13 March will go ahead as scheduled. Share this story http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/31756677 |

By Babayola M. Toungo President Goodluck Jonathan is a coward. Or how do you honestly describe someone who came to office through democratic process and is now doing everything possible to scuttle the same process that brought him to the office? In his reckless adventure, he is not averse to bringing down the house on everyone. His Rottweilers turned their poisoned tongues on former president Olusegun Obasanjo for giving them straight - that the Jonathan gang are taking Nigeria on the same path Gbagbo took Ivory Coast before the French intervened and saved the country from a needless civil war. For lack of anything to say, the presidency, the PDP and Jonathan's mudslingers resort to vile language to answer critics of the government. Anyone who disagrees with them is an enemy and should not be spared the acidic tongue of Funny Kayode, Doyin Okupe, Reuben Abati or the dinosaur known as Edwin Clark and gang of oil thieves masquerading as Ijaw patriots. Now Obasanjo has left the party for our neo-carpetbaggers and he did that in a very dramatic manner - he tore his PDP membership in public. Goodluck Jonathan has a deceptive mien and works hard to promote his image as a God fearing harmless man who will never allow the spilling of blood by anyone for him to remain a day longer than constitutionally allowed in office. But under this timid and docile exterior lies a cunningly dangerous man who can comfortably superintend the extermination of hundreds of thousands if that will guarantee his continued occupation of the office of the president. We have seen how he keeps mum while his associates insults the rest of the country and go as far as threatening war in the event he loses the forthcoming elections. While opposition figures are fair game to a compromised security apparatus, Jonathan's friends must be given protection to rain abuses on us poor folks. Goodluck Jonathan left no one in doubt that he is a going to be a sectional president right from the get go but we all ignored the danger signs and we are now paying for it. We all remember the October 1st, 2010 bombing at the Eagle Square, an act that was claimed by MEND only for Jonathan to exonerate the group well before any form of investigation commenced. His reason being that he knows his people and know that they cannot do what they claimed to have done, the then spate of bombings and kidnappings in the Niger Delta notwithstanding. And so began the serial bombings, killings and general insecurity in the north with the president wringing his hands and projecting an image of a besieged leader who cannot do anything. His supporters with his active support and prompting went to town with the implausible story that the north is killing its kindred just because they don't like his face. They refused to see the danger staring them in the face by their divisive tactics and mindlessness. While the rest of the country was forced to be defending themselves against manufactured charges, Jonathan and his people are stealing the country blind. And this is where we can locate the need to scuttle our hard won democracy. The level of theft under the Jonathan administration is unparallelld in any modern day country - the buccaneers of the 17th and 18th century will surely be turning green in envy wherever they are. They will look like angels compared to Jonathan. This is the first government in the chequered political history of Nigeria to turn over the federation's purse to a few selected people to do as they wish. Some few individuals became so powerful they believe they can determine the economic and political fate of the over 170 million Nigerians. The likes of Deziani, Okonjo Iweala, Sambo Dasuki, Edwin Clark and their minions with a covering fire from Ayo Oritsejafo, are so enmeshed in stealing (not corruption, mind you) that they cannot afford to leave office and remain free. This is fundamentally the reason for the postponement of the elections and the plan to abort it altogether ultimately. The insecurity alibi that was used to arm-twist the INEC in shifting the elections was put to test by the visit of General Muhammadu Buhari to Maiduguri yesterday and the massive turnout by his supporters effectively put to lie the claim by the military (Esau's voice) of not guaranteeing the security of voters. The youth of Borno under the auspices of Civilian JTF provided security to the APC presidential candidate when he announced his plan to visit Chibok - that traumatised community which the cowardly Jonathan couldn't find the guts to visit even as he is the Commander in Chief. In their ill-advised adventure to delay their day of judgement, they are ready to plunge the country into chaos just so that the elections cannot hold. The mayhem visited on the people of Gombe on Sunday the 15th of February 2015 falls in line with the regime's thinking. The attack came a day after the military are supposed to have launched a "massive" attack on the insurgents terrorising a corner of the northeast. I have always been sceptical about the military's tactics in this war against the insurgents - why is it that the military have never attacked them in the past and only waits for them to attack first before they "repel" them? How are the insurgents able to move around freely without the fear of being molested by the soldiers manning the many roadblocks in the region, while innocent passengers are daily subjected to one form of harassment or the other? Are we to expect more attacks between now and March 28th, so that the government may have an excuse for invoking section 135 (3) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended)? This section, in conjunction with section 180 (3), section 64 (2) and section 105 (2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) may be the government's jokers in trying to extend the agony of Nigerians by six months "in the first instance". And these sections, whose total effects may be used to extend the tenures of all elected persons, may be Deziani's immunity clauses. We must be vigilant. http://allafrica.com/stories/201502180163.html |

Igbo traditional rulers in Lagos, under the aegis of Eze Ndigbo in Lagos, have endorsed the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), General Muhammadu Buhari. At a briefing in Lagos yesterday, Eze Uchechukwu Nwachukwu said Ndigbo in Lagos will vote for Buhari and the Lagos State APC governorship candidate, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, on March 28 and April 11. Nwachukwu said Ndigbo has enjoyed robust and cordial relationship with the APC administration since 1999. “After a strategic meeting of Ndigbo in Lagos, we have resolved to vote for the APC. Our interest in the state has been protected and we equally want to show appreciation by voting for the APC candidates. “I call on all our brothers and sisters to use their vote wisely, by this pronouncement we have endorsed General Muhammadu Buhari and Akinwunmi Ambode. “I equally urge Igbo to go about the business without fomenting trouble. Our new task is to look forward to the new dates given by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and participate.” http://thenationonlineng.net/new/ndigbo-endorses-buhari-ambode/ |

Like Abraham Lincoln who through power of consistent consistency rose to become the president of the United States after several attempts, Buhari waded through pains and tears to get to where he is today. The fear of candidate Buhari is now the beginning of wisdom in Nigeria today. Buhari was no serious contender in the eyes of ordinary Nigerians in the contest for the Presidency in 2003, 2007, 2011 but in 2015 Buhari has become a serious issue, a volcano, an avatar, a hurricane, a force and a thunder to reckon with. The event that changed everything was when General Buhari was nominated as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC in a 48-hour non-stop event at Teslim Balogun stadium in Surulere. Few days after a cerebral scholar and Pastor in the finest tradition Professor Yemi Osinbajo was picked as his running mate, the momentum changed, permutations changed and calculations changed. The very stone which the builder rejected has become the head of the corner and all and sundry have come far and near to admire the edifice. But Buhari's rise to fame in Nigeria did not come so easy. Like Abraham Lincoln who through power of consistent consistency rose to become the president of the United States after several attempts, Buhari waded through pains and tears to get to where he is today. I have since learnt a lot through Buhari's power of not losing his head when others are losing theirs in a country where politics of the stomach holds sway. Through Buhari's life I have learnt that there is hope for a man who is not easily defeated even when the person seems to have lost everything. I have learnt that the world and everything that is in it belongs to those who try to drill the deepest well. This is the reason why the thieves, the corrupt, the demons, jezebels and all the monsters in Nigeria will not sleep until Buhari is out of the way for them to continue the business as usual. Check the newspapers, the TV stations, radio stations etc and you will at once notice that the common project is to find everything that is bad under the sun and hang it on the neck of the retired general. They all have a thousand and one reasons to demonize and pull down candidate Buhari so that the business will continue as usual. They place adverts and documentaries that make no meaning to anybody except those placing them. When there are no lies to use against Buhari, they try to manufacture as many as possible and dish it out to to the political space. The more they do this the more it becomes obvious that Nigeria needs a Buhari to rise again. The more those who seek to destroy Buhari work, the more his popularity grows a million times. The more they throw mud at him the more cleaner the man becomes in the eyes of the ordinary Nigerians who desire change at all cost. If you have listened to the audio and the transcript of how Ayo Fayose, Obanikoro, Omisore, Olubolade, Chris Ubah, Nigerian army, the police, DSS, the presidency etc conspired to steal Ekiti state from APC, you will then realize why Ayo Fayose wants Buhari dead by all means. If you know how much crude oil is stolen in Nigeria on a daily basis or how some importers of petroleum products have shortchanged the country, you will then realize why they are fighting tooth and nail to maintain the status quo. If you know the privileges Asari Dokubo, Edwin Clark, Tompolo and others enjoy today under president Jonathan you will at once understand why they are threatening fire and brimstone should Jonathan lose this election. If you are privileged to know the billions going to the pastors and the so called Men of God, you may not go too far to understand why they are falling over themselves to accuse Buhari of planning to Islamize Nigeria if elected president. If your eyes are wider enough to see the rot some government officials especially at the federal level have brought to the land, you will at once understand why they want the soft and weak Jonathan to continue in office. If you are clever enough to know the billions of dollars Jonathan's administration has invested in the power sector without anything to show for it in sixteen years ,you will then realize why the fear of candidate Buhari is now the beginning of wisdom in Nigeria. If you know the level of corruption being condoned by this administration in Abuja, you will further understand why they want president Jonathan to continue forever. But the thieves have stolen enough for the owners to take notice. They have taken enough for themselves, for their children, their grand children and great grand children and yet they cannot say enough is enough. Candidate Buhari is coming to put a stop to this endless corruption and impunity. Buhari is coming to build the battered and badly managed Nigerian Army which was once one of the best standing Armies in Africa. Buhari is coming to unite Nigerians, president Jonathan has divided along ethnic and religious lines. Candidate Buhari is coming to restore sanity in the land. He is coming to stop the oil thieves and the political traders in the seat of power. The retired general is coming to restore the dignity of Nigeria and Nigerians in the comity of nations. He is coming to rebuild our decayed infrastructure and democratic institutions. He is coming to restore hope to the hopeless. He is coming to secure the land. Today, the money changers, the money doublers, the wheel dealers, marabouts, sorcerers, foolish constituencies, foolish gerontocrats, merciless and unconscionable oil dealers ritualists, who thrives under President Jonathan have become desperate, hysterical, confused, dumbfounded, and in total disarray about the coming of candidate Buhari. They are looking for time to regroup but cannot find the time. They want their Jonathan to be re-elected and yet they do not want an election. They have placed confused Advertorials to fight Buhari but they end up fighting themselves. They created a thousand lies to cover a lie and yet the truth stands out like the rock of Gibraltar. There is a finger of God in this fourth coming of candidate Buhari in 2015. Students of the Bible know that Cyrus in Isaiah 45 did not know God and yet God blessed him and used him. God is not man. God's ways are not man's ways. He sees beyond all of us in the world put together. I want Buhari to win this election so that these scavengers, contractors, ritualists, kidnappers, armed robbers, and oil dealers who call themselves Bishops, Pastors, Men of Gof will return to the scriptures. You cannot serve God and mammon. When the ordinary Nigerians call Buhari Mai Gaskiya, do we understand the meaning? A good man can be found in the church, in the mosque and in other religions. One honest man is worth more to the society than all ruffians that ever existed. Buhari is the next President of Nigeria. Case rested! Joe Igbokwe Lagos |
