The 18th Nigeria's Democracy day was celebrated in Abuja, the country's capital and also in the 36 States of the federation but the magnitude of the event in Akwaibom state cannot be compared to that of other States even the FCT.

The present administration of Governor Udom Gabriel Emmanuel has continued to surprise
the people and put smiles in their faces but little did they know that the 'talk and do' Governor was ready to even surprise them the more during this year's democracy celebration.


For two years, the Udom administration has worked tirelessly and assiduously to ensure the betterment of lives of the people in Akwaibom state and this is seen in the Governor's industrialization strides that has created hundreds of jobs and positioned the state better for tourism and investment opportunities.
While other states and even the federal government are still confused and projecting for tomorrow, Udom Emmanuel believes that tomorrow may never be better if you don't start the work today and so in agreement with the wise saying that: 'if you want to live under a shadow in your old age, you must plant the tree now' , Udom Emmanuel started without hesitation the process of sweating now for the sweeter tomorrow by industrializing the State from the grassroots that was seemingly impossible.

It is no longer news that the Ibom toothpick Industry, the first of it's kind in Nigeria has already started production, a feat even the the federal government is projecting to start in years' time...................

Since the Fourth(4th) Republic which started in 1999, Nigeria has experienced various leadership patterns which has shaped our democracy and defined our nationhood.
Several of these leaders are sadly men who at some point in their lives were already in Government during the military rule and had benefited from the corruption of that.

In my opinion, these people who claim to love Nigeria should have done so by actions and not by lies by giving the floor to other people especially the youths to take active parts in governance and not just as thugs and ballot box snatchers during the never free and fair elections.
It is worthy of note that the only Presidency a 35 year old man can have in Nigeria can only be that of the SUG of a university, a case that is a pitiable dismal dismal and regrettably lugubrious according to Honourable Patrick Ogbahiagbon.

The conveners of this event, the Yar’ Adua Memorial Centre, the Ford foundation and the Open Society initiative West Africa, have done us an enormous favour by offering us
the platform for this profoundly important conversation. They deserve our deep gratitude for this opportunity for individual and collective introspection.

Introspection is probably what separates us from beasts. That ability to learn from history is perhaps the greatest defense from the avoidable pain of learning from experience, when history is a much gentler and kinder teacher. Indeed, the saying experience is the best teacher, is incomplete, the full statement of that Welsh adage is that experience is the best teacher for a fool. History is a kinder and gentler teacher.

I was ten years old when my friend in primary school then, Emeka, left school one afternoon. He said his parents said they had to go back to East, war was about to start. I never saw Emeka again. My aunty Bunmi was married to a gentleman from Enugu, I cannot recall his name. But I recall the evening when my parents tried to persuade her and her husband not to leave for the East. She did, we never saw her again.

I recall distinctly how in 1967, passing in front of my home on Ikorodu road almost every hour were trucks carrying passengers and furniture in an endless stream heading east. Many Ibos who left various parts of Nigeria, left friends, families and businesses, schools and jobs. Like my friend and aunty some never returned! But many died. The reasons...............................

The just concluded Unified Matriculation Examination (UME) organised by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board has so far been very different from the ones of other years.
To start with, JAMB reduced the number of questions from 250 to 180 and this also affected the time to answer the questions.
As if that was not enough, the implementation of stricter measures and security transmogrification during the exams was something the candidates will never forget in anytime soon.


Also worthy of note is the released results as they are very different and strange from the pattern of Jamb maybe due to the fact that a new registrar now controls the affairs of the body who has not only changed the ordinances but has also deviated from the modus operandi and settings laid by the previous administration.
The kind of results the candidates received was actually a pointer to the fact that Jamb was ready for this year.

Torogist reliable gathered that some candidates scored even below 20 while some scored even above 350 and just when we were ready to put this saga behind, this shocking but serious letter from one of the candidates to the body has set everyone on their toes.
The boy simply identified as Justus Aaron got angry as a result of his 90 score and decided to write to JAMB.

There was drama today in the Main Campus of the University Of Uyo, Akwaibom during the early hours of the day.
The year one students in the Faculty of Engineering of the Prestigious Citadel were having their Physics 121 lectures when suddenly, a boy spotted a snake on the roof of the lecture hall.

This caused uproar, chaos and screens especially from the girls whobtook to running in order to save their lives.
However, irrespective of the scary looking snake, two courageous students took it upon themselves to kill the snake and afters series of trials and hours, the snake which carefully hid itself amongst the timbers, zinc and other structures of the roof was hurled down and stoned to death by the ever vibrant gingering and swaggering Engineering students of the State's foremost higher institution.

No sooner than the snake was killed by the students than the security man assigned to that building appeared from nowhere to take the glory.
As a result of this, heated violence erupted between the security agents and the students over the Snake.


The security man who tried to use a machete to carry the dead snake was stopped by the angry students who shouted: "bring back our snake, we no go gree ooooo, that na biological specimen oooo," amongst other chants.

In defiance of the students demands, the Security man still carried the snake making one Engineering boy to stone down the snake, an action that annoyed the Security man who chased the student with the machete.
Upon seeing one of them being chaesd the entire students decided to assault the security agents over what the considered as gross misconduct in the school's premises for the purpose of self aggrandizement on the part of the security man.

It took the swift intervention of the Chief security officer, the lecturers present and other security experts to return normalcy to the place.
As at 11:20, the ever articulated Engineering students decided to embrace peace and shove their sword.
