So they bought the club with their money?

They should’nt have been allowed to buy the club with a loan in the first place. Or at least if they want to, the debt shouldn’t be on the neck of the club.
Why should they buy with 100 percent equity? Wait, so you think that dem billionaires make investments using their cash? Hahahaha when interest rates are fuvking low?

Also, you think that billionaires have cash? most of their monies are unrealized because they are in stocks and equity investments.

The mistake dem Glazers made was, they did not restructure the organization, and take the loan above Man uTd level (like put it in an entity above the club so man utd looks debt free on the surface). That’s what Abramovich and other club owners did and are still doing. I am sure there are reasons why the Glazers have not structured it that way.

Unfortunately, we don’t have access to financials of City Football Group, because it’s not a listed entity. I am sure there is a lot of debt in the books of the entity, while City and other clubs owned by City Football Group appear debt free. If the banks decide to go after their monies, the subsidiaries (e.g. Man City) will be in trouble.

I used to think it was just bantz when you are usually mentioned as a 'major' stakeholder.
I don’t need to be a major stakeholder to know this. Just visit the stadium a couple of times (not match days), you will get the chance to move around. Also, man utd is a listed entity. The club discloses every repair and maintenance cost.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by nitrogen(m): 6:25pm On May 02, 2021
Infact, the 70 percent would include less than 50 percent bank debt and the remainder in PIK loans provided by other institutional investors e.g. hedge funds and Private equity firms, and the Glazers themselves.

What capital? Didn’t they buy the club with a loan?
That’s the problem with people and the press. You can’t finance an acquisition with just loan, most LBOs is minimum of 30-40 percent equity, with the remaining financed with debt. That’s even if you have physical assets. The only major tangible asset that man utd has is Old Trafford. So tell me how easy it would have been for the Glazers to acquire with up to 70 percent debt.

The billionaire utd fans should get their acts together and bid for the club at min of 4 billion. Let them buy and run it. Forget the narrative that they don’t want to sell, they want the right returns before they can sell, contrary to what is being said, they haven’t recovered their capital. Fact!

Offer them good returns, and they will sell. I can’t wait to see how another owner will run the club sef.

The Glazers are running the club without the fans and this is quite similar to what is happening at Arsenal. They have absolutely abandoned and alienated the fans and failed to engage them in the process of making very critical decisions. The last fan participation dates 5 years ago, I stand corrected.

Have they exactly invested in the club and it’s facilities? They have not invested in the stadium as Old Trafford has not had any recent renovation. They are running the club like typical American business men. Like Arsenal, United is virtually running on a self sustained model. So that means, it is revenue from merchandise, tickets and other revenue sources that is keeping United and Arsenal afloat.

Worsestill, the debt profile of Manchester United has increased astronomically over the last 5 years and this is with the Glazers cashing out. The debt profile of United will be worse than the what the Glazers inherited which speaks volume of how the club is being run.

From an investor POV, I will be careful not to distort the identity and history of the club while trying to make money. The self sustaining model is a difficult one to sustain especially in the UK when the consider the economic system. This is not about buying FRIDGE and Aaron Nwa Bissaka”. The idea behind ESL was just the crowing of the thorn.

The Glazers ownership is different from City’s.
Your assertions don’t make sense. A self sustaining business is actually the best. Forget the fact that some owners pump money into their businesses from their pockets, it means the clubs are distressed.

Debt dropped overtime to about 200m before COVID, so, debt did not increase over the last five years. It only increased last year because of COVID. Do you think that other clubs haven’t borrowed more money very recently to mitigate the effects of the pandemic?

The attack on these guys no make sense at all. I guess britons are not happy with them because they are Americans. Simple!

Well said. And to just correct something. Man Utd had no debt before the Glazers. The debt started when "audio" billionaires decided to buy a big club without spending a dollar of their own money.

There was a day i watched a game in the top tier of the SAF stand. I had to use a suspicious looking staircase that looked quite rickety. In recent years the stadium has not had any real improvements apart from adding more seats (to increase match revenue)
I have been to OT very recently (and a couple of times), I didn’t see any issues. The stadium still looks great which means they do repairs and maintenance every time.

You can check the notes to the financial statement, they would normally disclose costs of repairs and maintenance on an annual basis.

You guys should stop this abeg.

LOL. Why should fans who just want to win titles look at it from POV of owners who are interested only in making money.

The grievances are many but i don't want to get into another long debate with Pro-Glazer people here so i will summarize.

2004: Manchester United was debt free and able to compete in the market with just about anyone.

2005: Glazers bought the club on a high interest loan which they now passed on completely to the club to pay. Instantaneously turning a profitable club into a debt ridden one. Since then the club has had to pay over 1 billion pounds in loan repayments and interest payments. 1 billion pounds that might have been spent on things like players, coaching recruitment and facilities had the Glazers not bought the club.

There is a reason Ronaldo was replaced by one leg Owen and no brain Obertan. Ferguson's ingenuity was what was papering over the cracks and everything collapsed as soon as he retired. In the past few seasons every time we make Champions League instead of supporting the manager in the next window the Glazers cut back on spending since their own target has been achieved.

You can imagine a fan of the club living in Manchester who has seen how the Glazers bought the club and took 1 billion pounds out of the club without spending any part of their own money, then who now sees Man City bought by owners who invested 1 billion of their own money into the club buying players, employing coaches, upgrading the academy and the facilities.
Wait, have they not spent the same 1 billion on the club as well? Why are the fans interested in how much they take out every year? No one should care, because they bought with some of their monies and still invested a lot in the club.

Meanwhile, not like they’ve taken out 1 billion, they have used most monies earned to repay acquisition loan. Not a big deal.

I am struggling to actually understand why the fans are against them, honestly.

These guys no sabi American investors/ club owners.. They are very indifferent and absolutely don’t care what the fans think.. It would take months of boycott and intense protest for any American owner to sell their club.

American investors have a pure undiluted Capitalist mentality about everything in comparison to the ideology behind football and fandom especially in a more socialist/ mixed leaning economy like the UK.
Exactly.

Which time in your opinion would have made sense?
Maybe they should have considered protesting just for a few hours before match time, then allow the game to go ahead. Do this every match day at OT, and you will be taken seriously.

Also, they need the right people to back/support them. The Glazers won’t be moved by protests and picketings. Money will move them, they will sell at the right price.

You keep telling yourself this when it’s obvious you are wrong. As a big club generating upwards of £500m per season, we ought to be spending like the other big clubs in Europe. United were the 2nd richest team in that era but they were the 6th best team in Europe - why is that?

Before 2013, City had already acquired Aguero, Yaya Toure, David Silva, Kompany, Dzeko, Tevez, Nasri, Balotelli, Zabaleta, Robinho, etc.

Your argument would only have a spine if the aforementioned players didn’t go on to contribute to City’s success before/after SAF retired. You know in your hearts of hearts that they did.

You should also blame them for not paying any attention to City’s rapid rise between 2008-2013. City were catching up fast while United were sleeping and counting on SAF to deliver trophies forever.

The Glazers are the worst thing to happen to United.

Let’s calculate how much they have spent since their 2005 takeover and compare it to City’s takeover in 2008.

Man City

08/09 - £142m
09/10 - £133m
10/11 - £165m
11/12 - £82m
12/13 - £56m
13/14 - £104m
14/15 - £93m
15/16 - £187m
16/17 - £194m
17/18 - £286m
18/19 - £71m
19/20 - £144m
20/21 - £160m

Total - £1.8 billion

Man Utd

08/09 - £40m
09/10 - £25m
10/11 - £26m
11/12 - £56m
12/13 - £69m
13/14 - £69m
14/15 - £175m
15/16 - £140m
16/17 - £167m
17/18 - £178m
18/19 - £74m
19/20 - £204m
20/21 - £75m

Total - £1.3 billion

If you add 05/06, 06/07 & 07/08(Glazers arrived in 2005) purchases to United’s total, you have £1.4 billion.

So the Arab owners spent around £400m more in 13 seasons than the Glazers did in 16 seasons.

The Glazers are a disgrace!
The comparison does not make sense. Start from 2012/2013 when Fergie left, not 2006 or 2008, because we had a better squad for years until 2013 when the players were getting really old and tired. How come we got to 3 UCL finals in those years that we did not sign players? Of course we had quality and depth, City were nothing, they started from scratch. They needed to spend the extra 400m to try and catch up with Chelsea and Arsenal.

Please don’t tell me that Fergie was a genius in those years, because we know how woeful he had been in almost 2 decades (prior to 2007/2007).

How many quality players did you sign in the last TW? How many quality players did you sign in Mourinho’s last season? How many quality players did you sign for Moyes?

The teams who start what they finish get their rewards, not those who yank the rug from under their managers once they meet top 4 and then subsequently sack them after they don’t qualify for UCL.
Can you list all players signed by City and Utd in the last 8 years? So we can do proper comparison. You know I am always ready to stuffs like that, but I am a bit busy this morning.

Spent enough to clinch top 4, you mean.

Abu Dhabi don’t know about football, yes. But they put football people in charge of football things in the club, instead of turning the club’s administration into the hands of an investment bankers old boy association.

Abu Dhabi guys aren’t lucky to have Pep. They courted, went after him and got him. His appointment was announced before the season ended.

Abramovic doesn’t sack and hire anyhow. He backs it up with players. He doesn’t do hit and miss with managers alone, he does it with players too. And when a player flops, he goes on loan. Or he sells them.

Why? How?

He fvcking put football people in charge of football things.

He bought Chelsea their first league title. He’s doesn’t take a step back concerning player acquisition when it matters. And they’re still buying.

He cares about the club. Wants to win things.

Your pals at OT are only interested in share prices and UCL money. If not they wouldn’t have sacked LvG after he won the FA cup and didn’t finish in the top 4. Or Mourinho, after he won 3 trophies , and top 4 started looking shaky the next season.

Like you said, eeeris whaririss.
Again, the stuffs from you are not correct. One thing that you need to understand is that David Gill and Fergie left at the same time. You know the effect of that? Why did Gill leave? One of both should have stayed to aid proper transitioning.

Also, we have football guys in charge. The non-football guys are there for commercials. It is tough to have a football person as chairman and CEO. Most ex footballers don’t have business mindsets. A football club is about business and football, not just football.

In fact, tell me what football experience the CEOs of Man City and Chelsea have? While you are at it, please add the profiles of the persons in charge of transfers at the clubs.

You guys should calm down abeg.
