Hi, How much is a 2010 Ford Taurus and a 2009 Volkswagen CC |
Not just in Ibadan.. You need to understand that most cars come into Nigeria through Lagos. Either through Tin Can port or Cotonou/Seme Border and most people would likely register their cars in Lagos before travelling with it to their respective states to minimize police and customs stress. |
Buyer Beware!!! Is this not the picture of the same car as advertised by Catfish for 2.95m?? I might be wrong but it needs to be investigated! Guys see link of advert below https://www.nairaland.com/1908886/audi-a6-sedan-2005 |
Look at the back of the car that you adverstised. It reads E200 unless that was not the original name tag... |
X_Class That car is MB E200..... |
katsim: Urgent respondNormally VSC showing is ok and not a sign of any problem. VSC (Vehicle Stability Control). It becomes a problem when it says "Check VSC System". If that is the case, then perform a diagnostics on your vehicle and see what codes it will turn out. If the Engine power is reduced due to misfiring or for other reasons, the car will disable the VSC system. You need to isolate the several factors that could be responsible for the problem. |
@OP.., I believe in one understanding his/her car needs before committing his/her money to buying one. I own a 2007 Camry Xle V6 that I bought two years and has been a joy to drive. In two years I have done basic servicing and changing of brake pads. I have changed the spark plugs and one ignition coil. I don't consider fuel economy while buying a car. If I can buy it then I can fuel it. The V6 might have a few parts that might be more expensive than the I4 and it's in order. Toyota is reliable to the extent that you are ready to maintain it. I bought a diagnostic tool after I bought my car so that I don't do guess work with mechanics. Nigerians believe that Toyotas and Hondas are reliable and therefore would not make any more effort in knowing the maintenance needs of their vehicle. So if you want to buy The 2007 Camry Se, be ready to buy the required engine oil, spark plugs, coolant, brake pads etc. These information can easily be gotten online if you can't find it from your user manual. There's no car that doesn't have issues though some have more known problem than others. Goodluck with your search |
@Sooperrescue... are you saying that the LR3 is not a good buy? Is it really more expensive to maintain than the RRS? I was thinking of buying the LR3 over the RRS because of the 7 seater capacity. If it not economical, maybe I would go for the MB GL450 which is also a 7 seater. What are your views? |
Costee: Note carefully and spot the difference:The important thing here is to give the forum the right information and not as much as who is right or wrong. The 90919-01247 is the OEM part number for FK20HR-11. Both SK20R11 and SK20HR11 are not for the 3.5L (2GR-FE) engine. See extract below from sellers on e-bay
|
Costee: It appears Op made a mistake. It should be FK20HR-11. It's Denso Iridium. Same as Denso SK20HR11. You could also use NGK DILFR6D11."Costee, Pls verify your information on the plugs. The SK20HR11 is for the 2.4L 4Cyl Engine. see extract from amazon website below. I even went to Elizade Motors in PH to verify the numbers and they confirmed that the SK20HR11 is not for the 3.5L 6Cyl Engine (2GR-FE) and that they are not the same plugs.
|
@phemmy26, I live in PH so I bought it from one guy at Ikoku. If you are in PH I will give you his number. The plugs are N3,500 each. The correct plug number is FK20HR11. It is made of a material called IRIDIUM. |
I want to share my experience with "Check VSC System Warning" that came on my dashboard about a week ago. I noticed that the warning Check VSC System came up while driving one day. I used my Obd2 scanner and ran the diagnosis and it came up with the code P0306, Cylinder 6 misfire detected and a check engine illuminated afterwards. Car would jerk while idling and would hesistate while speeding off. After careful study I narrowed the fault to possibly bad spark plugs. I learnt that the engine disables the VSC System when it starts loosing power. I went ahead to change the spark plugs. Now that is the interesting part; the plugs for the 2.4L 4cyl engine is different from the ones for the 3.5L 6cyl engine. The right plugs are FH20KR-11 and it was quite a challenge finding it. I got it and changed all the six plugs and cleared the codes. I drove for about 2km and the check engine light came up again together with the check VSC System warning. I got home and scanned the car again, this time around it came up with P0356, Ignition Coil 6 Primary/Secondary Circuit. I went ahead to replace the ignition coil on cylinder 6. After changing the ignition coil and clearing the codes i decided to test drive my car and it came back to life, full 268hp V6 power. It was quite an experience!! |
@Op, please follow JW214's advice. When you are in Nigeria, go to the renewal center depending on the state it could be FRSC office or Motor Vehicle Licensing office, Pay for the new licence and after filling all the form and doing the Biometrics they will print the Temp licence for you immediately which is valid for at least 2 months until the original comes out. If you will leave the country before the original is out, write an authorization letter and sign it allowing one of your folks to pick up the licence for you when it is ready. |
Having followed this thread for a while, I can only say that this is exactly the bane of Nigerian businesses. Our inability to handle slight success knows no bounds. There are lots of companies in the western world that were established in the 1700s to date. Arthur Guinness started brewing since 1759. I have little to say to this whole inspiredm saga. First if the lipseal guy is satisfied or at least has counted his losses and moved then it's OK. No matter our struggle for justice, it is still his call. Secondly, Mr inspired, you need to understand that for most people car is one of the most expensive investment after buying/building a house. This places a lot of sentiments to it. People always have attachments to their first car, little wonder our parents would keep an old Peugoet 504, VW Beetle, etc. parked in their garages even though they are practically valueless in today's world. Inspired, you need to understand that it is easier for a man that has N20m to forgo N5m than someone that has N2m to part with N1m. Always bear in mind that the guy buying a N1.5m car might have saved for a while to be able to afford that. In business management and marketing, there's what is called Niche market. If you feel that some cars are too small for you then you can set your minimum to be whatever you consider big (it could be N5m or more..) then the man with N1.5m wouldn't bother contacting you. He will go to someone that will have his time and treat him/her professionally. Zenith Bank has a mimimum current account opening balance of N250k, nobody has taken them to court for that because there are other banks that have opening balance of under N5k. That is how a business is done professionally. I would rather advise you to sit up because if you look around you will see a lot of failed businesses that were by far bigger than your own. The likes of UTC, LEVENTIS, PAN, VOLKSWAGEN NIGERIA, etc., are nowhere to be found again. Finally, treat all men equally or at least with some level of professionalism so that your business would continue to grow. A word is enough for the wise! |
Thanks sooper for the clarification. Its really encouraging. I think I will go ahead with the LR3. But your Range Sport is still looking so cute after 5yrs. Guess its good maintenance culture at play here. Keep it up. sooper rescue: That is the misconception about the suspension issues. Yes it is there but it can be fixed with little effort and little money. Mine have been on the road for 5 years now and I have only changed one air suspension for just N60,000. But I have changed the lower and upper arms on many occasions because I travel on many occasions with the Jeep. On many occasions, I spend N12000 for fuel from Lagos to Abuja and when you are on a long journey, to stop and refresh yourself is very difficult. I just dont want to end the thrill, wanting it to continue. We, my outfit, now fix suspensions on Range Rovers without stress. Most of the time, the jeep needs calibration of the suspensions and that is all that needs to be done but many people just assume that it is the air suspension that is faulty whereas the Jeep suspension height is inaccurate. There is nothing to fear about the suspension or about the repairs, the technology is affordable and it is everywhere. We tend to believe that it is only Coscharis that can fix the Jeep meanwhile the same Coscharis is finding it difficult to fix the problems on the Jeep. They dont repair anything but they change the parts only. There was an Auto Dealer in Lekki that changed the brake pads of someone's Sport for N120,000 whereas the same pads front and back with sensors is not more than N30,000. They changed the A/C system for N400,000 and the A/c lasted for two weeks. It took them 3 months to fix the A/c whereas a simple change of a used compressor for N30,000 will put the A/c in a new cooling condition. Height sensors never go bad inspite of the fragile state of the sensors. There is a Britparts dealer in Lagos that sells the original parts for a fraction of what Coscharis will sell the parts to you. The only problem with the Jeep is when the warning sign of engine performance reduced comes up, it means our regular unleaded fuel is taking a toll on the engine. But there are also solutions too until Dangote's refinery comes on board. Use Octane Boosters. If you have a supercharged, use octane booster at all times or you will be spending money left and right to solve an easy problem. We just fixed the active rolling pump on a supercharged in Abuja. It is the dynamic response of the Jeep and it cost a lot of money. The used engine of a supercharged cost N1.3m if you can get a good one but the engine is built to last. Following the routine maintenance matters a lot. For example, the oil requirement is 5W30 and people use Mobil 1 which is 0W40 and they still find sludge in their engines. Why? Because the oil requirement is not Mobil 1 when it is in Nigeria but Total Q9000, AP Syn and Oando Syn. They are all 5W40 and they are very good. Coscharis once complained to me during an interactive session that they use Mobil 1 on their BMWs because there is no Castrol oil here in Nigeria and they still find sludge in the 3 and 5 series. That was in 2005 and presently we dont know the current situation. The transmission fluid is portrayed as a lifetime fluid but I disagree when it comes to Nigeria. I have been changing the transmission fluid in my Sport for the past 3 years at every 15,000miles and the gear is still much in pristine form. Go get yours and enjoy the benefits the Jeep offers. Many owners dont use coolant or they use coolans not suitable for their Jeep and then the overheating comes to play. Welcome to the Club |
I have followed several discussions online with regards to the Land Rover product line. The common problem seems to be the air suspension system. The complex nature of the suspension system makes it scary for people to venture into. Changing the EAS compressor, Suspension Control Module, Air springs, height sensors etc., as a complete set will easily run into $4000+... I am considering buying a 2007/2008 LR3 4.4L V8 HSE which shares the same platform as the Range Rover Sport but I am not fully convinced it is the right choice considering the cost/avaialability of the spare parts and the expertise of the local Nigeria mechanic. Experts and real owners in the house can throw more light on it and dissuade our fears. Apart the suspension system, I have not heard complains about the Engine/Transmission of the Range Rover Sport or the LR3. It apears that they are less problematic. @OP, thanks for creating this thread. It will go a long way in helping people make informed decisions if people share real life experiences. |
