PoliticsWhy People Are Protesting In Kwara by Niyilight(op): 12:55pm On Feb 18, 2024
Why People are Protesting in Kwara

Kwara is my second home. I was born there, I schooled there and I married from there. In fact, despite that I left the state more than 2 decades ago, I've refused to let go of my love for the state. So, I take more than a passing interest in its affairs.

Kwara State, a region known for its rich cultural heritage and historical significance, is currently witnessing a wave of protests that has taken both locals and observers by surprise. Reportedly originating from the ancient palace of the Emir of Ilorin, the protests have rapidly spread across the state, engulfing it in a fervor for change and accountability. But what has ignited such widespread discontent among an otherwise docile populace?

The root of the unrest lies in the growing concerns over fiscal management and governance priorities under the current state administration led by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq. Reports have surfaced that the Kwara State Government (KWSG) has received over N60 billion in federal allocations in the last five months, a figure that is unprecedented in the entire history of Kwara state. And when combined with internally generated revenue (IGR), could potentially double. This revelation has sparked outrage among citizens, who are increasingly questioning the transparency and accountability of how these funds are being utilized.

For too long, the people of Kwara have been kept in the dark about the state’s financial dealings. Despite repeated calls for openness and responsible governance, the administration has remained opaque, blocking all avenues for public scrutiny. It wasn't until the Presidency itself intervened by recently publishing the allocations details to the subnationals that the magnitude of the financial mismanagement began to come to light.

At the heart of the protests is the accusation that the Kwara Governor has consistently favored trivial political pursuits over the substantive governance of the state. Critics argue that he has placed narrow political interests and permutations above the broader welfare of his constituents, demonstrating a preference for short-term political gains over long-term state development and prosperity.

One of the most glaring examples of this alleged mismanagement is the decision to allocate approximately N18 billion towards the renovation of the state-owned Kwara Hotel—an investment seen by many as extravagantly unnecessary, especially when considering the myriad of humanitarian concerns plaguing the state.

Furthermore, the Governor's choice to sponsor his own APC party members and a select group of local traditional and religious leaders on a pilgrimage to Hajj with a staggering N1billion from state coffers has added fuel to the fire, showcasing a blatant disregard for the pressing needs of the general populace.

Adding to the sense of betrayal is the state of major projects initiated by the government, many of which have either been abandoned or are progressing at a snail's pace. This lack of follow-through not only undermines the state's development but also erodes public trust in the administration's commitment to its promises.

Complicating matters further is the perception that the Governor is presenting a facade of stability and progress to his political allies and the presidency in Abuja, while his state grapples with discontent and unrest. This disparity between the projected image and the reality on the ground has deepened the divide between the government and its citizens.

As the chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum, the Governor's actions do not merely reflect on his administration but also set a precedent for other state leaders. His governance style, marked by a perceived prioritization of frivolities over meaningful statecraft, serves as a disappointing example to his peers and a rallying cry for his constituents demanding change.

The protests in Kwara are a manifest expression of a populace at its breaking point, demanding accountability, transparency, and a redirection of focus towards the pressing needs of the state. It is a call for leadership that prioritizes the welfare of its citizens over political gains and projects that serve the public interest over those that cater to a select few.

The unfolding situation in Kwara is a stark reminder of the power of public sentiment and the imperative for leaders to align their priorities with the needs and aspirations of those they serve.

PoliticsEXCLUSIVE: Bolaji Abdullahi Moves To Join APC, Lobbies For Ministerial Slot by Niyilight(op): 4:03pm On Jun 10, 2023
EXCLUSIVE: Bolaji Abdullahi moves to join APC, lobbies for ministerial slot

... The Fayemi, Wike connection

Bolaji Abdullahi, a former Sports and Youth Development Minister and prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is reportedly making clandestine moves to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and serve in President Bola Tinubu's cabinet, according to exclusive sources.

Abdullahi recently contested as the PDP's flag bearer in the 2023 Kwara Central senatorial election but was defeated by his APC counterpart, Mustapha Saliu, who secured over 100,000 votes compared to Abdullahi's 60,000.

Reliable sources familiar with Abdullahi's plans confirmed to our medium that, he formulated this strategy following his loss in the February 25 elections. Since then, there have been rumors of his secret consultations with relevant APC stakeholders, particularly at the national level.

Abdullahi is said to be relying on his strong relationship with former Ekiti State Governor Dr. Kayode Fayemi and former Governor of Rivers State Nyemson Wike. Wike has been reported to be recruiting dissidents from the PDP to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, allegedly with the aim of weakening the opposition PDP ahead of the next election in 2027.

A highly placed source familiar with the situation stated, "He will soon defect to the APC. It is no longer a matter of 'if,' it is a matter of 'when.'"

The same source added, "Oga is no longer interested in the Saraki Dynasty. He believes the dynasty is already spent and has outlived its usefulness in Kwara state politics. No matter how much stakeholders like him tried, the dynasty is gone for good."

Another source within the Kwara State government house, who spoke to our reporter on condition of anonymity, mentioned that Abdullahi is attempting to secure one of the two ministerial slots reportedly reserved for Kwara State through his close friend Fayemi, who is considered one of the influential power brokers in President Tinubu's circle.

However, it remains to be seen how Abdullahi will navigate his strained relationship with Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, the current Governor of Kwara State and Chairman of the Nigerian Governors' Forum.

Several sources have indicated that Abdullahi has been working to mend ties with Abdulrazaq since the PDP's defeat in the 2023 general elections. "He knows it is the Governor who will propose names, and Bolaji has been trying to win the Governor's favor by presenting himself as a technocrat. He has also sought Fayemi's assistance in speaking to the Governor," stated one source.

While the government source couldn't confirm if Abdullahi's defection was part of these efforts, they mentioned that it is possible for the former minister to announce his defection before the end of June.

It has been observed that Abdullahi, who has remained relatively silent since the new administration took office, recently congratulated Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq on his appointment as the Chairman of the Nigerian Governors' Forum. Sources suggest that this congratulatory message was one of Abdullahi's ways to ingratiate himself back into the APC.

In a statement on Tuesday, Abdullahi described the Governor's appointment as a matter of pride for all Kwarans, regardless of political party affiliation. "I congratulate His Excellency, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, on his recent appointment as Chairman of the Nigeria Governors' Forum. This achievement should be a source of pride for all Kwarans, both young and old. We wish him success in his tenure as Governor of Kwara State and NGF Chairman," Abdullahi remarked.

It would also be recalled that Abdullahi had, in an interview granted The Sun newspaper, showered praises and encomiums on the President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and offered to support the government in any capacity he deemed fit.

How Gov Abdulrahman Shares N20bn Among Monarchs to Buy Votes

*** Kwara North Emirs sold their Son for a pot of poradge.

In a desperate bid to secure his re-election in the Saturday Governorship Election, Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has invested N20 biilion from state coffers to bribe traditional rulers across the three senatorial districts of the state.

The money was distributed to induce the traditional rulers to influence their subjects to vote for the re-election of the governor. Many of the traditonal rulers got between N60 million and N10m depending on the category they belong to.

It is believed that the recent public endorsement of the governor by some the traditional rulers in the state were the direct fall out of the sharing of rhe largesse. In return, the royal fathers are to also ensure that not only do the subjects vote for the governor but that any opposition candidate is not allowed to garner votes in their respective areas.

"For the governor, it is a short cut to victory. It eliminates getting on the streets and embarking on rigorous campaign across all the wards. Again, it is to buy the loyalty of the royal fathers", a source close to the Governor stated.

The governor is also ensuring that the traditional rulers work for the money he laid them by charging then to deviseeans that will ensure that the people vote for him and when APC leaders in their respective domains perpetrate electoral malpractices against the Governor's leading opponents, the royal fathers provide cover for them.

It is believed that the Olofa of Offa, Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi Esuwoye is the main distribution channel for the Royal fathers in Kwara South Senatorial District while the one in Kwara North, is being handled by Etsu Patigi and Emir of Tsaragi.

The governor who is particularly fixated on getting support from Kwara North to undermine the PDP Governorship candidate, Alh.Shuaib Yaman Abdullahi who is from the district, has invested more in the traditional rulers in the region.

Further checks reveal that the money given to the traditional rulers was not the only juicy part of the deal but there were also promises of contracts and board appointments to family members particularly wives and children of the monarchs while the most ranking monarchs are promised houses in Dubai after the election.

This deal has led to widespread intimidation of lower class traditional rulers who have refused to align with the agenda of the governor since they were not factored into the naira distribution bribery plot.

This grand corruption scheme comes on the backdrop of alleged diversion and misappropriation of billions of naira from the state coffers by the Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq led administration.

The mass diversion and misapplication of.state resources is made possible by the administration's failure to domesticate the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act in the state and its refusal to provide transparent records of financial spendings of the state to civil society groups that have had several requests for facts turned down.

As at the time of filling this report , a top monarch from the Southern part of the state is preparing to embark on a physical door to door campaign on behalf of the governor after a public ceremonial endorsement of Abdulrazaq at the Government House in Ilorin a few days ago.

Melaye: Nobody Tried to Impeach Buhari, Omo-Agege’s a Cheap Revisionist

Senator Dino Melaye who represented Kogi West in the 8th Senate has described his former colleague now Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege as a cheap revisionist who was trying to cover up his inglorious act of leading thugs to disrupt the proceedings of the Senate in 2018 and seized the mace.

Melaye in a press statement in reaction to comments said to have been made by Omo-Agege at a campaign rally in Asaba last Thursday stated that there was no time in the four-year tenure of the 8th Senate that any attempt was made or plot hatched to impeach President Mohammadu Buhari as claimed by the Deputy Senate President.

He noted that the issue in question when Omo-Agege was suspended and he led thugs to disrupt the session of the upper chamber of the National Assembly while also seizing the mace was the order of election that should be followed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the 2019 polls as it was to be included in the Electoral Act.

“You could see how incoherent and incomprehensible Omo-Agege’s statement was. He said he was “de facto chairman of the Electoral Act”. I have never heard of such a position or responsibility in the National Assembly before. As of the time of the passage of the Electoral Act 2010 (amendment) Bill in 2017, Sen. Suleiman Nazif was chairman of the Senate Committee on INEC.

“The 8th Senate had passed the Electoral Act 2010 (amendment) on March 30, 2017, two years before the 2019 election and five days after the passage, the then Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki visited President Mohammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa to brief him on the provisions of the proposed law. The President expressed his happiness over the proposed changes. So also the INEC  chairman, Prof Mahmud Yakubu on a visit to the Senate leader said he and the commission were satisfied with the changes.

“It was a year after that, that the House of Representatives passed their version of the Bill and reversed the order of elections contained in the one passed by the Senate. The concurrence given by the Senate to the House version was what Omo-Agege and his cohorts in the Senate said they were protesting against because they believed it would jeopardize the re-election plan of Buhari if the presidential election came last in the order.

“That Omo-Agege is now spinning that situation by claiming an imaginary impeachment plot to justify his perfidious act of bringing thugs to disrupt a senate session and also seize the mace is condemnable. A Senator leading thugs to attack the chambers and forcefully halt a parliamentary session in a fascist manner? It is an endorsement of anarchy and only a person like Omo-Agege can be beating his chest over that type of shameful act.

“To think that this character wants to be governor of Delta State is a sad commentary on our democracy. Anarchists and people who have no pretension to any belief in the tenets of democracy should not seek positions that require them to be democratically elected”, Melaye stated.

He advised Omo-Agege not to seek to rewrite history as the truth is well documented and history will surely not be kind to him for the ignoble role he played in the 2018 saga.

PoliticsStop Displaying Ignorance, Govts Can’t Use Property As Collateral, KAI Tells KWS by Niyilight(op): 11:30pm On Feb 08, 2022
Saraki administration neither obtain nor guarantee any loan for Shonga

The Kwara Advancement Initiative (KAI) has advised the Kwara State Government to stop displaying ignorance and peddling cheap lies by claiming that the Saraki administration took loans on behalf of a private company, Shonga Farms while using the state property as collateral.

In a statement signed by its Head, Democratic Mobilisation and Monitoring Desk, Hajia Adeola Bashiru, KAI stated that governments do not use properties as collateral for loan as no bank will accept it. Rather, governments use allocations from the federation account to guarantee loans.

It stated further that the Kwara State government under Saraki never guaranteed any loan for Shonga Farms Holding where it has 25 percent of the shareholding and therefore could not have used any of its property as collateral for any loan obtained by a limited liability company that has a legal personality and could enter into any agreement, sue and be sued.

“Kwara State government was just a shareholder in Shonga farms like four of the nation’s banks: FinBank, Intercontinental Bank (now defunct), GT Bank and Unity Bank and therefore it cannot be held liable for the debt incurred by the company, particularly since the loan must have been adequately secured before it was granted.

“As a shareholder in Shonga farms, the Kwara State government had no liability for any loan contracted by the company more than its investments. Curiously, the Kwara State government under Abdulrahman is claiming that its property had been seized when the other shareholders in the bank have no such complaint.

“If Shonga Farms took any loan and defaulted in its payment, then the creditors who must have granted the loan based on the appropriateness of the collateral must simply resort to realising the collateral.

“Thus, the appropriate step for the Kwara State Government is to fight through the legal means any attempt by the Asset Management Company of Nigeria (AMCON) or any private or public institution to illegally appropriate its property. It is unfortunate that AMCON sometimes illegally attaches property of any of the directors or shareholders of any company that is purported to be indebted to any bank. This is an illegal means of asset recovery and a reasonable shareholder will use legal means to resist being victimized through illegality.

“However, instead of the Kwara State Government to fight for its rights and protect its properties, Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq decided to play politics with the issue by folding its arms and allowing Kwara State Property to be illegally and unduly seized so that it could once again blackmail the preceding administration.

“To clear all doubts, the KAI has made all necessary checks and is convinced that neither the Saraki administration nor the Abdulfatai Ahmed administration contracted or guaranteed any loan on behalf of Shonga farms. There was no need for the government to do so and it was also not possible for the state government to use its landed property to guarantee or collateralise any loan.

“Kwarans should tell Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to do the needful. He should stop peddling lies and displaying ignorance. This cheap Politics must stop and now, too”, the KAI stated.

PoliticsBreaking: Efcc To Pay N50million In Damages For Violating Rights Of Businessman by Niyilight(op):
Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja today declared that the act of government agencies rearresting people in the court premises after they had been granted bail is unconstitutional.

Ekwo gave the pronouncement during a ruling in a fundamental human rights case instituted by billionaire businessman, Babatunde Morakinyo against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The judge went further to award N50million in damages to Morakinyo, who was re-arrested and detained by the EFCC on the court premises after he had been granted bail by a court for charges filed against him by the agency.

PoliticsLooting Of N5 Billion At KWIRS: The Facts And The Lies by Niyilight(op): 2:46pm On Dec 12, 2019
It is indeed sad to read the many lies this administration is putting out there as truth without thinking of the larger consequences of such public lies and the collateral damages of such to the institution in question, in particular, and the state, in general.
When the news broke out that the past administration of the revenue service shared and looted about N5 billion, one expects that any serious government will sieve through the information and guide appropriately the integrity and sanctity of the government before throwing such into the public domain. But because they are quick and eager to rubbish the previous administration, anything damaging, whether true or not is jumped at by the government.

They did not just stop at championing these lies but also sponsored the spreading of these lies as much as possible through their campaign media that has been idle for a while.

Knowing fully well that the entire populace of Kwarans cannot be dumb and unreasonable, certain reasonable questions are being asked by reasonable Kwarans who have followed all the trantas, and responses to such have been making a ridicule of the claims of the state government.
Some of such questions are:
1.Who and who looted these N5b and how was the act perfected?
2. Between when and when did the looting take place?
3. When was the looting discovered and what has the government done in the process?
4. What plan has the government to safeguard such from repeating itself if the allegations are true?
In response to question 1 we gathered from the news flying around and sponsored by government that the erstwhile chairman of the revenue service is at the centre of the sharing/Looting of the said sum. Facts emerging from sources within the revenue service have revealed however that the consultants engaged by the service in its four years of existence were properly engaged in accordance with the laws establishing the service and the payments in question were commissions due to and paid to those consultants. It was also confirmed that the service is even indebted to some of these consultants who are being owed for services rendered. So, if these consultants were engaged and paid for services rendered according to their terms of engagement resulting in the indisputable successful performance of the service, how can such payments become looted funds as being claimed by government?

Concerning the period under question, the State Government's claim that during the 4 years of the past administration the said sum of N5 billion was looted. If the service was able to raise about N85 billion in 4 years an equivalent of what the state ever generated in previous 16 years, it is obvious that such accomplishment could only have been possible with concerted efforts and sacrifices and those efforts would not have been that of the members of the revenue service alone particularly with the level of hostilities of our society. Making a remarkable change like that must surely have come at a cost and this administration will only be undoing itself by the approach of castigating those who made the contributions that led to the enviable results possible. If the government is not careful the distraction of what they have decided to do will make them loose focus and end up achieving nothing, our source added.

Looking at when the supposed looting was discovered which shows that the new chairman of the service is sending a wrong signal to the staff of the service and the taxpayers thereby making her job more difficult going forward. It cannot be taken away that the erstwhile chairman had established an agency that has become the envy of others both within and outside the state. "For somebody to come and inherit such a well established agency that is internationally certified and begin to smear the image of such an organisation rightly or wrongly speaks a lot about the leadership and management capacities of such a leader, and in this our society it is just a matter of time that the system will teach such leadership a bitter lesson. The man you think you are trying to destroy has served and moved on handing over to you to show what you can do so why inflicting pain and agony on yourself and the system instead of facing the challenges of generating revenue for the development of the state," our source added. It is obvious that nobody will measure your performance with what the previous administration did or did not do, rather your performance will be measured by what you are able to generate for the state to use for its developmental agenda and for this to happen you need the institution bequeathed to you and the trust of the residents of Kwara particularly when you are also coming with a baggage of EFCC cases on your neck to KWIRS the top management staff said.
Our investigation reveals that the present administration that is accusing the past administration of looting through the consultants engaged for services to the revenue service is already considering and presurising the revenue service for the engagement of their own cronies as consultants to replace the terminated consultant while those not terminated are still rendering service to KWIRS, the source added.

In conclusion, it is obvious that the whole of these are political and the danger is that the revenue agency should not be made the basis of scoring political points because of the significance of the agency in the future of the state.

The Governor of Kwara State, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, and the Speaker of the House of Assembly of the State, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Saliu Danladi, were seen a few days ago at the Shoprite Complex in Ilorin.

The Shoprite complex, which was built during Bukola Saraki’s time as the Kwara State governor, as part of the former governor’s efforts to create new jobs in the state, has served as one of the prime economic centers in the state.

To those people who say that Saraki did nothing for Kwara State, they should refer them to the fact that if Saraki had not facilitated the building of the Shoprite in Kwara, the new governor would not have a Shoprite to visit.

Just my two cents.

RACE FOR NEXT KWARA CHIEF OF STAFF : WHY ABDULBAQI JIMOH MUST SHUT UP NOW.

APC Integrity Vanguards

*……Decorating a highly corrupt man like Yusuf Lawal is funny*

*…… AA should be mindful of Sarakis mistakes of family dominance in government*

The great determination of responsible kwarans to chat a new course in governance of the state have yielded a very good fruits and ushered in a new dawn in the state. We congratulate our new leader, Abdulrazaq Abdulrahaman on the success and the entire people of kwara who stood firm by us under the thicks and tin of elections.

Indeed, the destiny of kwarans now lie on Governor Rahaman resolves to either surrounds himself talented people who possess requisite knowledge of political economy, diverse ethno-religious landscape of the state or bunch of overrated egoists who believe solely on their intellects as responsible for their successes rather than determination of peoples and supports of almighty God. This is why as progressives; we shall not fold our arms while pompous political naiveties take the wheels and render the new government impotent.

As a group committed to success of this new government and development of kwara, we have very strong reservations to an uninformed articles put together by one Mr Abdubaqi Jimoh where he clandestinely attacked sensibilities of so many APC stalwarts to pave ways for Yusuf Lawal nomination as COS or SSG to new government. Aside the fact that the said articles tends to portray other APC members as lacking intellectual or academic capability, it also revealed the magnitude of hyper desperation of Yusuf Lawal to outshine other committed party members who have interest in that office . While we have no issue with Abdulbaqi engaging in promotional stunt for his friend, telling other APC members that their CVs cannot stand that of Yusuf Lawal is unwise to say the least.

First, we wish to lecture Abdubaqi that the people he claimed are calling him for clarifications on Yusuf Lawals interest becoming Chief of Staff by all means are people who have more information to the heavy underground lobbying being perpetrated by Yusuf Lawal in respect of the office , aside from this, the same people also know how individuals who are to manage such exalted office do compose themselves as men of virtues and exceptional charidsma. Therefore , these people have stakes in the affairs they are calling you upon and do not deserve the kinds of derogatory words being used by Abdulbaqi in his off-sense articles. As an educated person presently serving in public office, ‘GERRA THERE’ is the least area boys utterances that is expected from you. in fact, with this kind of utterances, we are beginning to get scared of the kind of people to work with the new government.

Abdubaqi remarks where he claimed Yusuf Lawal a humble and un-ambitious man very funny, truly ,Abdulbaqi has forgotten he is not the only one who know Yusuf, in contrary, thousands of people whom have interacted with Yusuf actually see him as very rude, greedy, insolently arrogant and cunning individual who can trade anything for material wealth.

Mr Abdulbaqi attempts to now decorate a stinking corrupt element like Yusuf Lawal as an humble man who backed out of gubernatorial contest due to his humility and love for kwara is not only laughable but misleadingly mischievous. Contrary to Abdulkbaqi thinking that his friend involvement in dirty financial fraud in his office has remained a top secret affairs, we are glad to inform you that all the processes which led to Yusuf Lawa backing out of gubernatorial race was due to the financial mess he found himself after selling almost all his properties acquired through fraudulent means to settle himself out of the investigative panel set up to uncover the multi million naira scandals he perpetrated alongside few others.

From the look of things , it appears Yusuf Lawal did not confide in his promoter how he went secretly to some villages in Asa LGA to obtain APC membership card and citizenship form in preparation towards the partys primary before the burble busted on his Indictment in financial misappropriation scandals which he later sold properties to cover up and in return backed out of gubernatorial contest due to financial bankruptcy

To His Excellency Governor Abdulrahaman , we advise that you be guided in your appointment so as not to make similar mistakes of the Sarakis whose family monopolized the state at the detriment of other citizens . morally, the current deputy governor , *Mr Kayode Alabi* will not address any member of Abdulrazaqs Family as his friend, he will rather address them as brothers and sisters owing to over 30 years of relationship with your family. Your Excellency, do we need any prophet to tell us how dangerous it will be to proceed and use your immediate cousin, Yusuf Lawal as COS/SSG to your government?

In mr Abdubaqis uninformed articles , hen talked about experience and academic competency, if we are to be guided by this, what happened to Mallam Lukman Mustapha that he cannot be more fitted for COS than Yusuf Lawal? Mallam Lukman Mustapha contributions to the success of the OTOGE mantra cannot be rated low. If we are to talk of experience in government offices both at the state and central levels, then Honorable Moshood Mustapha and Yinka Aluko are not baby in this game, why are we not looking into their directions ? if we are to talk of vibrant young personalities who are successful in their private businesses , we cannot underrate the contributions of vibrant youths like Yahaya Seriki and Mallam Salhiu Mustapha , these are well rooted personalities that are more fit than those who swim in avalanche of fraud scandals in their office.

However , if its about those who made serous sacrifice for our struggles and who can as well do well as Chief of Staff or SSG, we cannot override the likes of Prince Sunday Fagbemi, Chief Akogun Iyiola Oyedepo , Benjamen Issa and host of others . why should we now rubbish our government from start by making it appear like it’s a family affair?

Your Excellency, these above listed names are famous among party members who demonstrated exemplary qualities with much more leadership qualities much more than Yusuf Lawal whom Abdulbaqi ; his friend is trying to sell for uninformed publics. Your Excellency, your conscience should be cleared that you did not favor or fix more of your family members in key positions at the detriment of other kwarans who would now struggle for other office

Also, Kwara youths were quick to converge at the metropolitan square, to say no to Buhari and the APC. They have nothing to offer they said, rather than tell Kwarans what they want to offer, all they did was to sing Saraki throughout their rally.

PoliticsKwara APC Chair, Balogun-fulani Hails INEC Decision To Abide By Court Judgement by Niyilight(op): 7:16pm On Jan 01, 2019
The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Kwara State, Alhaji Ishola Balogun-Fulani has hailed the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to abide by court judgement nullifying the Bashir Bolarinwa-led executive committee of the party.

A Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin had recently sacked the Bolarinwa-led executive committee and asked INEC to only recognise the list of members of the executive committee presented by the Balogun-Fulani faction.

In a statement on Tuesday, Balogun-Fulani described the decision of INEC to abide by the court ruling as a welcome development, stressing that it is binding on the electoral body to obey court judgments.

“This is a victory for democracy and we are grateful to INEC for standing by justice,” he added.

He reiterated that Alhaji Kayode Omotose remains the authentic and only recognised governorship candidate of the APC in Kwara and advised Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to stop parading himself as the gubernatorial candidate of the party.

Balogun-Fulani said the party would forward the names of Kayode Omotose and other candidates who emerged through the primary election conducted by his executive committee to the national chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomole and INEC as stipulated by the court judgement.

He said the party would soon flag-off its gubernatorial campaign and expressed confidence that Omotose would emerge victorious in the forthcoming election.

Moshood Mustapha meets IGP to device new strategy to pull down his former boss

Erstwhile aide to the Senate President, Hon Moshood Mustapha was yesternight with the controversial Inspector General of Police at his Abuja residence where the duo had Iftar together and also discussed on other subject matters. This has become a ritual for the disgruntled former aide, who’s desperation is obviously beyond his selfish ambition, but very much a sinister plot to ridicule Ilorin and the peace and piety that the ancient city is known for.

Prominent among what both men discussed according to inside source revealed that the former had sought the IG support to aide him in his sinister mission to subvert his former principal in the political control of their state. This is coming after the first attempt to implicate Senator Saraki was botched before its arrival.

The former aide who clandestinely walks into the IG residence at dusk categorically informed the IG last night, of his readiness to help cook up conspiracy theories which the IG may use in bringing down Saraki.

"I am known for dirty jobs from time immemorial and so it is easy for me to come up with believable tales of anarchy which we can blame on the man Saraki, if you assure me of your support. The fact is that I cannot go anywhere in my ambition and one must use what he has to get what he wants , you are the only one i have right now here and at home. People of Ilorin and Kwara at large are solidly behind him (Saraki)." Mr Moshood Mustapha was quoted telling the IG who wore a rather sinister smiling face

The IG who thanked Mr Moshood Mustapha immediately granted an order detailing a full compliment of police officers to be attached to Mustapha and told him he will intimate him on next action plan .

It is not clear how much was handed over to the IG by Mr Mustapha but the source revealed a briefcase laden with hard currency of unknown denominations was handed over to the security man attached to the IG after the conversation.

PoliticsNBC Boss, Moddibo Kawu, Defrauds Kwarans, Uses In-law As Front by Niyilight(op):
NBC Boss, Moddibo Kawu, Defrauds Kwarans, Uses In-law as Front

The recent celebrated Digital Switchover in Ilorin, the Kwara State Capital, may be a precursor for a grand fraud spearheaded by the Director General of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Isiaq Moddibo Kawu.

The switch over on of the Digital Terrestrial Television Services in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, which took place on Wednesday 20th December, 2017 was attended by the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed who was the Special Guest of Honour at the event.

However, as Kwarans who attended the ceremony were jubilating over the excitement of an enhanced picture quality and wider contents, two significant advantages of the programme; DSO from analogue to digital transmission; there is a well crafted sleaze operation buried into the whole process.

Information available to this medium confirmed that while the NBC Director General, Isiaq Kawu Moddibo, contracted out the technical aspects of the DSO program to professionals, the nontechnical ones, especially the sales and marketing of the Digital box was contracted to family members who served as fronts. Our sources confirmed that while the Digital Terrestrial Television Service (DTSS) project in Ilorin was coordinated by a consultant,  Integrated Telecommunications Services (ITS), the contract for the buying and selling of the DSO Decoder Box was given to an in-law of the Director General, Moddibo Kawu. The in-law (name withheld) has since gone on a racketeering mission, selling a box that was originally advertised to sell for N1,500 now goes for 3,000 naira or higher. The in-law, the front, used by the NBC DG, has the mandate to buy and sell the decoder boxes in bulk from manufacturers and sell at exobitant prices.

A number of informed individuals who spoke to this medium on the now exposed Free TV fraud spearheaded by the NBC Director General, Isiaq Moddibo Kawu said they were not surprised with the emerging fraud stories.

According to Alhaji Alasela Kabir, "A man's past goes a long way to determine the confidence to repose in his business. If only you know who Moddibo Kawu is, you won't be surprised over all this fraud issues. A man who will deceive his God would deceive anybody. May be you were not even aware that Moddibo Kawu was a freethinker until he was appointed the General Manager of Kwara State Television. That was when he started praying. Now, someone who played double with his maker would definitely find it easy to defraud mere mortals."

Another source, who crave anonymity, said Moddibo Kawu is a shady character who do everything to take advantage of a situation. "If Moddibo Kawu greets you good morning, you had better open the windows to confirm before you answer." He was my very good friend. In fact, we attended the same Secondary School and we virtually grow up together. I began to fear Moddibo when I noticed that he would speak good of people to me for some time and started castigating them after a while. He did it with General Abdullahi Muhammed. He did with Bukola Saraki. The case of Saraki was even funny. It took a while before I discovered that Saraki entered his bad record because he took a proposal to reposition The Herald Newspaper to him and that one turn him down. You see, Modibbo Kawu has always been a dubious character and I won't be surprised if this allegations of fraud relating to his present assignment turns out to be true".

Meanwhile, a team of consigned individuals under the aegis of Kwara Indigene Right Protection Network (KIRPN) have indicated their resolve to petition the National Assembly over the fraud associated with the DSO project in Ilorin. The Chairman of the group, Comrade Kunle Dan-Alhaji told this medium that the association is aware of situation and is putting its petition together for onward dispatch to the National Assembly. "We can't fold our arms and allow this racket to go unchallenged. Whoever is behind this must be brought to justice and we would ensure that is done", Comrade Kunle vowed.

Falana Admits Buying N1bn-Worth Forfeited Abuja House for N600m

After several denials over the years, Human rights lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana ( SAN ), has admitted he purchased a N1 bn property located at 43 Gana Street , Maitama, Abuja at the paltry sum of N600m.

The property was one of the properties the embattled former chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team, Abdulrasheed Maina, helped to seize from pension thieves and handed over to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

An order of interim forfeiture was granted in favour of AMCON over two years ago. However, Mr. Falana has claimed he bought the house after the order of interim forfeiture which had been obtained by AMCON was set aside.

The Attorney General of the Federation , Abubakar Malami ( SAN ), had accused Falana of buying the building which was seized by the Presidential Task Force on Pension Reform.

Malami had while testifying before the National Assembly last week , echoed the allegation , saying the property was sold to a ‘Lagos lawyer ’.

However , Falana said , “I have decided to take issue with Mr . Malami over his false claim that the EFCC had sold the property in question to me. Contrary to Mr . Malami ’s claim, I never bought any property from the EFCC.

“If Mr . Malami had conducted a search on the property in question , he would have found that it was one of the assets used to ‘ collaterise’ a loan obtained from Bank PHB by A Group Properties over 10 years ago .

“He would also have found that the property is a subject matter of a suit which is currently pending before the Federal High Court sitting at Abuja . ( See Suit No / 2015 between Assets Management Corporation of Nigeria v A Group Properties Limited ) .”

The human rights lawyer added that the suit was instituted by AMCON due to the failure of the company to liquidate the loan.

Falana said in granting the ex parte application , filed by AMCON in the matter, the court ordered an interim forfeiture of the assets of A Group Properties Limited including No . 42 Gana Street , Maitama District , Abuja .

He added , “The said order was granted on November 11 , 2015. However , in a bid to pay the loan , A Group Properties Limited decided to sell some of the properties . The sale of the property in question to me was made subject to the setting aside of the order of interim forfeiture which had been obtained by AMCON .

“Up till now, the case has not been concluded as the parties have asked for time to resolve the dispute amicably and file terms of settlement . To that extent , the transaction on the property remains inchoate.

“Although the said order of interim forfeiture was granted in favour of AMCON over two years ago , Mr . Malami has not deemed it fit to disclose to the Federal High Court that the property at 42 Gana Street, Maitama District , Abuja , was recovered by the Presidential Task Force on Pension Reform.”
PoliticsNigerian Accuses Sahara Reporters Of Money Laundering, Tax Fraud ...notifies IRS by Niyilight(op): 6:56pm On Oct 06, 2017
Nigerian Accuses Sahara Reporters of Money Laundering, Tax fraud
...Notifies IRS in United States

Sahara Reporters Foundation has been accused of evading taxes both in the United States of America where it claims to be registered and in Nigeria.

A Nigerian, Mr Bamikole Omishore who made the allegations said details of multiple bank statements by the foundation in the last one year shows inflow of hundreds of millions of Naira from questionable sources but no evidence of tax payments or exemptions.

Omishore said he had contacted Mr Omoyele Sowore of Sahara Reporters Foundation to provide evidence of tax clearance but he refused to do so.

Omishore said that as a good citizen of Nigeria and America who does not want to see any law broken, he had filed a petition with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) in the U.S. and also notified the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) in Nigeria to probe the tax status of Sahara Reporters and Sahara Reporters Foundation.

He acknowledged that although some non-government organisations and non-profit firms were exempted from tax, they were still required to file an annual tax exemption form and make it available to the public.

“Over the years, Sahara Reporters has claimed that it is not registered in Nigeria but only registered in New York in the U.S., hence he does not have to be held accountable under Nigerian law on anything.

“I somewhat disagree with him on that, if you are a registered business in New York, even though you are trading in Nigeria, you ought to be registered in both places, most especially if you are running accounts that collects funds from international organizations, Nigerian businesses and questionable individuals.

“A private citizen sent me details of multiple bank statements, with two Banks in Nigeria with some of the accounts showing the last three years transactions that Sowore of Sahara Reporters Foundation has had with these banks.

“The transactions for last year alone ran into hundreds of millions of naira, from foreign organizations, politicians and other questionable transfers, including cash deposits of tens of millions in one day."

“In Nigeria you are supposed to report every income and pay taxes on them, as a foundation even though NGOs do not pay taxes, by U.S. laws, NGOs are required to file for tax exemptions as the law provides that: "All tax exempt organisations must annually file the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) form 990 an informational tax form. This form gives the IRS an overview of the organisation’s activities, governance and detailed financial information.

“The non-profit must disclose to the public upon request, three of the most recently filed tax exempt forms and the organisation’s tax exempt status.

“Many charitable organisations post this on their websites, what this is meant to do is to make sure that terrorist organisations, drug dealers or corrupt politicians do not use the NGO as a money laundering tool to destabilise the world economy,” he said.

Omishore added that it was in view of this fact that he had filed a petition against Mr Sowore for refusal to file his tax documents in the last three years for Nigerians to see if it correlates with the hundreds of millions that goes through his bank statements.

He said that the bank statements did not even include some funds which Sahara Report received as donations from foreign organisations adding that a certain foundation even publicised its donation of $450,000 to Sahara Reporters.

“I am only saying that for the sake of posterity, the American government should clarify if truly Sahara reporters, is registered in America and the country is in support of the organization 's activities of collecting money from questionable sources"

“I have filed a petition to the IRS to know the status of Sahara Reporters foundation, a copy of the petition is attached to this. He is collecting money on behalf of Nigerians and saying he is registered in New York: We just want to make sure no law is being broken in Nigeria and in U.S.

“I have contacted FIRS in Nigeria over this matter as well and I will also follow up with both tax institution. I had given him the benefit of the doubt to provide his tax exemption or evidence of payment which he refused to do, now the onus lies on Sowore to clear his name", Omishore stated.

PoliticsOmoyele Sowore And The Unknown Rape Victim by Niyilight(op): 6:49pm On Oct 06, 2017
OMOYELE SOWORE AND THE UNKNOWN RAPE VICTIM

Somewhere in Nigeria there is a grown woman, who has been a victim of rape. She probably has two or more kids and married to a good man. This lady might sometimes have psychological trauma or she might be frigid in terms of sex. Her sexual frigidity might make her have to compromise as regards her marital vows which the husband ought to keep. She is a lonely woman, failed by the world around her. She would have lost faith in the Nigerian system if everyday she sees the face of her alleged rapist being hailed as a hero both nationally and internationally. This might be the fate of a woman that Mike Okiro claimed Omoyele Sowore allegedly raped .

I have received e-mails from countless individuals who claim they have sent petitions to NGOs.

The irony of it all is it seems that even the NGO’s are scared of Mr. Omoyele Sowore. The only exception amongst these NGOs is the NGO with the twitter handle ‘endrape’. Mr. Sowore has been enjoying so much popularity and living on the fact that many Nigerians believe him to a certain extent but he is yet to come out and openly deny if he truly raped the unknown victim or it was just a false allegation. Many of his paid stooges go as far as accusing anyone that dares bring the issue up as using the rape story as a blackmail weapon or politicizing rape. The allegations as regards politicizing rape is wrong and mischievous and only goes a long way to show how we have sacrificed values and decency for political gains. No one has nailed Omoyele Sowore on the cross of judgment but what we require is for him to step out and clear his name. It is very insensitive of a man occupying such a position in journalism like Omoyele Sowore to be silent on this issue, this is a man whose reports ensures that people are sacrificed or judged in the court of public opinion yet refuses to do what is honourable.

Mr. Omoyele Sowore is a powerful figure, a journalist and also an activist and if all he claims he stands for the truth, then his character ought to stand the test of time. We can’t have shady characters hiding under the guise of being activists; it portends great evil if truly Omoyele Sowore was guilty of rape and he is moving around freely, living like a hero. What about the poor victim of rape, has anyone ever taken time out to think about her state? What about are children that we are told that she has? What about the fact that she might have psychological trauma anytime she sees Omoyele Sowore being celebrated? What about her husband who might be having hard times with his married life? What about the children who will grow up to see society celebrating the man who allegedly raped their mum? Don’t we feel society has failed them? Let us forget politics for once and put on our thinking cap.
It is high time we put pressure on different Non governmental organizations and ensure that they raise petitions against Mike Okiro or the police force in order for them to re-open the case or Omoyele Sowore comes out in the open and deny this allegation. Anything other than that is nothing but an act of insensitivity towards the oppression of the female gender and the deification of certain individuals as being above the law of the land and being above the scrutiny of morals.

Falana Acquires 1 Billion Naira Maitama Home With Help of EFCC

Few days ago, report circulated on social media that celebrated activist Femi Falana is one of the beneficiaries of proceeds of corruption recovered under the current embattled Acting chairman, ibrahim Magu. The report stated that the current Chief of Staff to Magu (Ola Olukayode) was seconded to the commission by Femi Falana.

According to available documents, Mr Femi Falana in the space of 6 months purchased a building with address 42 Gana Street, Maitama Abuja for the whooping sum of 1 Billion Naira from Alhaji Aliyu Abubakar popularly known as AA Oil.

There has been concerns in the presidency on how Falana who is not known to have any high profile company as client can make over a billion Naira in 6 months to pay cash for a property.
