An innocuous auto accident which occurred last Wednesday at the Ekiti State University (EKSU) escalated into a full blown violence two days after, which led to the total crippling of the university, and eventually led to the indefinite closure of the institution. The rampaging students completely razed five cars, one Toyota bus, the institution’s security van, a motorcycle; damaged the institution’s ambulance and vandalised five other cars. The students also did not spare buildings as they smashed windows of almost all the buildings on the university campus. In the confusion, students also looted the institution’s Teaching and Research Farm on the campus, carting away 3,500 chickens, 75 sheep and rams; 30 pigs,25 rabbits, 10 goats and 120 crates of eggs. The EKSU officials on the farm lamented that the students tore the bags of feeds on the farm, spilled thecontents and used the bags to cart away their loot. Students of the institution told newsmen on Saturday that an accident injured a student, and that had triggered them to this action. This is really a sad news and we wonder what have resulted to this mass reaction from the students. We will update more as soon as we are better informed. |
Flamingoes coach Peter Dedevbo said he would like to win the team’s quarter-final match against France as an Independence Day anniversary gift to Nigeria. He said this at Nigeria’s 52nd Independence Day celebration in Baku, Azerbaijan, on Monday. “I wish Nigeria a happy 52nd anniversary. We want to win our mach against France and dedicate it to God first, and present it as an Independence Day gift to Nigeria,’’ Dedevbo said. “I want Nigerians back home to pray for the Flamingoes and wish us luck in our match against France on Thursday. “We thank God for being able to qualify for the quarter-finals of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup. We’ve been working very hard to make sure that we present a good and winning team for this competition. “Nothing less than victory is expected from our match with France because we have all it takes to defeat them.’’ Dedevbo recalled that Nigeria crashed out at the quarter-final stage of the competition in 2008, saying, “We are not ready to make the same mistake in Azerbaijan. For this reason, we are working very hard on the team to make sure we defeat France.” France coach Ferrier Guy told the News Agency of Nigeria that the Flamingoes are a good side. “All I know is that Nigeria are a very good team and I am waiting for the great day when we meet them,” he said. www.naijabase.net/sports-news/we'll-beat-france-as-independence-day-gift/msg957/ |

Godogwu: Nigeria is 52 tomorrow and so we should not have any problems what so ever? Please don't be so gullible....every country had issues of theirs at 52 and still have issues at whatever age they are now. Then again, power has been improving, new and better roads have been built, education is thriving, economy is growing etc.....people should understand that everyone in Nigeria can't boast of success; that is very impossible....some people suffer, some smile and some are very happy, that generally how the world is. I'm forever proud of my country at 52 "Nigeria, great people, great nation"nice one |

Johannesburg – A man who benefited from President JacobZuma’s special remissions programme appeared in court on Thursday for allegedly raping a 94-year-old grandmother. Spokesman of South African Police Service (SAPS), Col. Vincent Mdunge, told newsmenin Johannesburg that the suspect is “a habitual criminal’’. He said that the suspect appeared at the New Hanover Magistrate Court on Thursday. “The woman was raped in her KwaSwayimane home in Emabheleni Ward, at 1.00 a.m. on Saturday. “Police have been looking for him for another case,” Mdunge said. Mdunge confirmed that the suspect had been one of the 3,150 granted presidential parole, and that police had been searching for him for his part in an armed robbery case before the rape. KwaZulu-Natal Correctional Services Commissioner, Mnikelwa Nxele, confirmed that the suspect had been released at the start of the presidential remission in June. Nxele said that the alleged rape was regrettable and sad. http://gossiptone..com/2012/07/ |
