The Delta State Police Command on Monday morning commenced a show of force to build confidence and curtail the threat by the proscribed IPOB to enforce sit at home in Asaba, the state capital.

Recall, Focus Naija had reported that surveillance helicopters were earlier seen deployed and hovering around the state capital.

“He assures residents of their safety and urges them to go about their lawful business(es) as the Command is willing and able to deal decisively with anyone or group of persons who try to cause any form of trouble in the State.

“He admonishes members of the public particularly residents of Asaba and the entire Delta North district to remain vigilant, monitor and report any strange and suspicious movements or persons in their neighborhood to the Command or other law enforcement agencies.

Nairaland GeneralOvie Omo-agege Commends Workers, Berates Governor Okowa For Neglecting Pensioner by Nksleek(op): 9:22am On May 02, 2022
MAY DAY: Ovie Omo-Agege Commends Workers, Berates Governor Okowa For Neglecting Pensioners

To commemorate May Day, the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege has applauded workers for their diligence to duty and berated Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for ill treatment of pensioners across Delta State.

Focus Naija can report that the Delta Central lawmaker hailed the workers and commended their sacrifice through a statement issued on the Ist of May, 2022 and signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yomi Odunuga.

According to the statement, he bemoaned the refusal of Governor Okowa’s led administration to pay pension and gratuities of senior citizens that had meritoriously served the state, saying that it is the efforts of workers that are largely responsible for the greatness of the country and the respect that Nigeria commands in the comity of nations.

The statement reads in part;

"The continued neglect and refusal of the state government to pay their pensions and gratuities speaks to the disdain, aversion, contempt, derision and hatred by the Okowa-led government for workers.

"Unfortunately, many retirees have passed on without collecting their entitlements while others have resorted to riding commercial motorcycles popularly called Keke to make ends meet. Current workers are also not that hopeful that they would be receiving their entitlements as and when due upon retirement. This does not speak well of an oil-rich state like Delta.

"It is a sorry state that those who have diligently served the state for the most productive part of their lives are treated like second-class citizens by the state government.

"Our message of building a new Delta hinged on Employment and Empowerment, Development, Good Governance and Enduring peace and security (EDGE) will usher in a better deal for workers. Frankly speaking, Delta State workers deserve better and we shall deliver on all promises to them," he said.
