Jungle Justice Again In Ughelli; Three Suspected Robbers Set Ablaze For Stealing DJ Equipments

Sequel to the lynching of two suspected robbers in Afiesere community on Wednesday morning, three robbers were on Friday burnt to death at Ofuoma Community, near Afiesere in Ughelli, Delta State.

Focus Naija can report that they were lynched along Isiokolo road after they were allegedly caught trying to rob a boutique.

According to reports obtained from multiple sources, an indigene of the community said to be the gang leader confessed that his mother usually prepares charms for them before embarking on any mission.

They were said to have stolen DJ equipments worth millions of naira prompting a community manhunt against them.

A source wrote in pidgin;

“Them don da thief since but nah today them catch them so. Them first thief one dj full instruments oohh, so today nah one boutique for the junction them wan go thief nah them catch them. The ofuoma boy say nah he mama da do jazz for them if them wan go rob. The ofuoma boy so two girls get belle for am.”

As at the time of filing this report, our correspondent notified image maker of the Delta State Police Command of the development.

A less graphic footage from the scene where two suspected robbers were burnt to death at the entrance of Afiesere Community in Ughelli, Delta State.

Focus Naija can report that they were lynched in the early hours of Wednesday, 9th March, 2022.

Circumstances surrounding the jungle justice as to what they stole or how they were caught could not be ascertained as at press time.

A source disclosed that onlookers were only attracted to the scene after the victims have been set ablaze. More details as it unfolds.

In another development, operatives of the Anambra State Police Command rescued three armed robbery suspects from a mob that wanted to lynch them.

According to a press release issued by the spokesperson of the command, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, the suspects identified as Ifeanyi Nsiegbunam, Chinemelum Nwafor and Nnamdi Nwakwesili at about 10am on the 8th of March, 2022 dispossessed off the belongings of a female student of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam before they were apprehended by the angry mob.

“The timely arrival and intervention of some police operatives at the scene saved the suspects from being lynched, he said.

Incriminating items found and recovered from the suspects include: one locally made single barrel pistol, a white coloured dagger, a big saw, a big hammer, a black and brown coloured lady's bag, an Infinix phone, a black Panasonic phone and three(3) phone chargers.

A Toyota Camry driven by a group of young men caught fire along the way and burnt completely to ashes in Ughelli, Delta State.

Focus Naija can report that the incident occurred on Friday evening at London Street in Oteri Community of Ughelli.

According to reports obtained from an eyewitness, a jerrycan of fuel that was just bought from a nearby filling station was in the boot of the burning vehicle.

It was also reported that concerted efforts made by the young men and passersby to put out the fire was futile.

Although no life was lost to the inferno, phones and other personal valuables that were left in the car while they were hurriedly trying to put out the fire also burnt to ashes.

A POS operator, Excel Matthew Okorie on Thursday afternoon, returned N100,000 naira to a bank staff that overpaid him in Zaria, Kaduna State.

Focus Naija can report that the POS operator had gone to withdraw N192,000 from the PZ road branch of FCMB to kickstart the day’s business when the cashier wrongly paid him N292,000 instead.

Narrating the incident on social media, the POS operator who combines business with academics said that his integrity was put into test by the encounter.

According to him, he told the bank staff to properly confirm the amount before he left the banking hall that morning.

He said at noon he surprisingly received a call from the same cashier telling him to cross check the amount paid to him as it seems he was overpaid with N100,000.

He wrote in part;

“At noon my phone rang from the bank and it happens to be the cashier that attended to me , pleading I should recheck my cash , because he thinks I was given extra 100,000 naira.

“Immediately I checked the cash and saw an over cash of 100,000 naira immediate many things came into my mind but i imagine the mental stress the poor banker will be and his job is almost at risk.

“On getting to the bank at about 30 minutes been called, he was happy seeing my face with the 100,000 and asked please what business do you do which I told him.

Indeed my integrity was tested by the universe today and soon we believe our business is having branches in no distance time.

He was later given N200 (two hundred naira) by the banker for transportation.

Operatives of the Issele-Uku Division of the Delta State Police Command on Thursday, quashed an ongoing cult initiation ceremony at Ukwu Nzu Forest.

Focus Naija can report that thirteen suspected cultists were arrested after the DPO of the Division detailed a combined team of operatives and civilian anti-cult to raid the forest following a tip-off.

According to a press release issued by the spokesperson of the Delta State Police Command, DSP Bright Edafe, a locally made double barrel shot gun, twenty-five live cartridges and two cars were recovered during the raid.

“On 24/2/2022 at about 2100hrs the DPO Issele-Uku Division, acting on intelligence that Aiye confraternity will be holding their initiation ceremony at Ukwu Nzu forest, detailed a combined team of police and civilian anti cult to the venue of the initiation and successfully foiled the initiation process.

“During the raid, thirteen suspected cultist were arrested, a locally made double barrel shot gun, twenty-five live cartridges, a Toyota Corolla with reg no. GRA 68 SG and a lexus 350 SUV with reg no BDG 689 GQ were recovered. Investigation is ongoing.

A notorious Delta Robber, Getay has fallen to police bullet after a shootout with operatives in Warri.

Focus Naija can report that he gave up the ghost while receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital after bullet hit him during the shootout.

According to a press statement issued by the spokesperson of the Delta State Police Command, DSP Bright Edafe; Getay and his gang were operating around Erejuwa by Old Welfare Road when patrolling operatives of the Warri “B” Division while acting on a tip-off swooped on them.

On sighting the police team, the gang reportedly opened fire and the operatives replied swiftly. The ensuing gun battle led to Getay sustaining gunshot injuries that later claimed his life during treatment.

A cut-to-size double barrel gun, a live cartridge and two expended cartridges were recovered during the operation.

“The team immediately proceeded to the area, upon sighting the Police Patrol team, the hoodlums opened fire on the team and the team equally responded. In the ensuing gun duel, Getay who is the leader of the gang sustained gunshot injuries and was taken to the hospital where he gave up the ghost while receiving treatment.

A little school girl has burnt to death with two others severely injured in a fire outbreak at Oghara, Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State.

Focus Naija can report that the fire outbreak occurred at Ajanesan street opposite Oghara Police Station and was caused by a motorcycle conveying petrol in jerry cans due to fuel scarcity on Thursday.

According to eyewitnesses, the motorcycle‘s stand while on transit, scratched the road resulting to fire that engulfed the petrol in jerrycans.

Caravans housing shops with properties worth thousands of naira were also damaged in the inferno.

A fully loaded Multi Line commercial bus conveying passengers to Owerri, Imo State has caught fire along the East—West Road.


Focus Naija can report that the commercial bus was conveying the passengers from Multi Line’s head office at the water resources in Warri to Owerri when the fire broke out from it’s engine.

According to an eyewitness account, the incident occurred at the ECN junction axis of the road, just before Eruemukowharien community and that all passengers were able to disembark before the fire totally engulfed the bus as there was no casualty recorded.

As at the time of filing this report, men of the Federal Road Safety Corps were sighted patrolling at the scene.

A placard with the inscription, “I can’t pay N250,000 for school fees, I nor wan do ritual” has been trending on social media after students of Delta State origin took to the Roundabout at Effurun to protest against the hike in school fees across tertiary institutions in the state.

Recall, Focus Naija had reported that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s personal phone numbers were leaked to the public over the school fees increment.

Also leaked were the phone numbers of the Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof Patrick Muoboghare, Vice Chancellor of Delta State University, Abraka and that of his counterpart at the Delta State University of Science and Technology, Ozoro.

Widespread condemnation has trailed the sharp increment of school fees in recent time. Student leaders and stakeholders alike have expressed displeasure with the state government demanding that education is a right and not a privilege.

According to Counsellor Dennis Agori, an educationist and author, the school fees increment is too much to bear.

In a video shared on his timeline, he said government must take back the decision as it is against the social contract of leadership reached with the people.

So we admonish the government which ought to represent the people to be empathic, democratic and plan with realistic balance between what is needful vs what the people can bear.

I am using this opportunity again in saying NO TO TUITION HIKE in Delta state universities. I heard something similar going on in College of Education, Warri (unconfirmed).

Definitely, the protest continues by Monday. I hope Asaba may be the next destination. If you want to lend your voice, come on. We move!

I also say NO TO FUEL HIKE in any guise that will mount undue pressure on the citizenry.

Let's speak more against what we don't like. Say no to the conspiracy of silence. Don't push the wall, it will collapse, he wrote.

Following the public outcry and backlash against the Delta State Government over the sharp increment of school fees across state owned tertiary institutions, Dio Oghale Emeka Rex, the Deputy Coordinator of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS Zone B has leaked the personal phone numbers of the Governor of Delta State, His Excellency, Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa.

Focus Naija can report that the phone numbers of the State Governor was leaked to the public via the social media pages of several NANS comrades after it was first sighted at the Deputy Coordinator’s page on Thursday morning.

According to him, an ultimatum issued by the apex students union to the State Government to reverse the increased school fees has elapsed hence, students are expected to take out time to meaningfully engage the Governor on phone to press home their demands.

He said students should not be made to bear the brunt of a state that prides itself with the appointment of thousands of political aides without office and work description but are busy receiving huge allowances and salaries monthly.

He noted that the outrageous hike is detrimental to the welfare of Nigerian students as those responsible for it, actually enjoyed free education during their own university days.

He pleaded with the students not to save the number for personal gains but to ask the Governor salient questions on how much he spent to attain his medical career and how students had offended him to warrant such increment at this crucial time.

Nigerian Students please take out time this morning to ask Governor Ifeanyi A. Okowa what’s the offense of the students to him? Ask him how much he paid during his days in medical school.

In a state where by we have thousands of political aides with no office and no work but busy receiving huge allowances and salaries at the detriment of the students, ask him what is the offense of Education to him? Ask him why must students pay for their security, ask him how much is the students bursary and what happened to the free education he met. The protest will be held against the unaffordable school fees increment at Delta State University, Abraka and the newly created Delta State University of Science and Technology, Ozoro.

A cross section of Nigerians are calling for the arrest and prosecution of four young men captured in a trending video on rituals.

This is as Nigerians grapple with the effects of escalated incidents of ritual killings across the country, Focus Naija can report.

According to the visuals, the young men said that the sure way to make success is to engage in ritual. That it is better to use girlfriend or outsiders than to use biological mothers and sisters.

They also stated that all ritualists do not necessarily end up mad especially those that patronize their sure plugs.
