The 14-year-old secondary school student was killed on Saturday 4 April after being hit by a stray bullet while inside her home. The fatal shot was reportedly fired by military personnel engaged in celebratory gunfire during a wedding ceremony at a nearby event center.
A family friend of the victim said:
“She (the deceased) lived in the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) quarters with her family and was inside her home when the tragedy occurred. She had just finished applying henna for her mother and herself, joyfully preparing for a family wedding scheduled for that same day.”
While her funeral was held this morning at Maiduguri graveyard, her family and friends are left seeking answers for a death that was entirely preventable.

NASA’s Artemis II Mission Leaves Earth Orbit for Flight around Moon
For the first time in more than 50 years, astronauts on a NASA mission are bound to fly around the Moon after successfully completing a key burn of Orion’s main engine.
With the approximately six-minute firing of the spacecraft’s service module engine on Thursday, known as the translunar injection burn, Orion and its crew of NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and CSA (Canadian Space Agency) astronaut Jeremy Hansen accelerated to break free of Earth’s orbit and began the outbound trajectory toward Earth’s nearest neighbor.
“Today, for the first time since Apollo 17 in 1972, humans have departed Earth orbit. Reid, Victor, Christina, and Jeremy now are on a precise trajectory toward the Moon. Orion is operating with crew for the first time in space, and we are gathering critical data, and learning from each step,” said Dr. Lori Glaze, acting associate administrator for the Exploration Systems Development Mission Directorate at NASA Headquarters in Washington. “Each milestone we reach marks meaningful progress on the path forward for the Artemis program. While we have eight intensive days of work ahead, this is a big moment, and we’re proud to share it with the world.”
NASA’s SLS (Space Launch System) rocket and Orion spacecraft lifted off from Launch Pad 39B at the agency’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida at 6:35 p.m. EDT on April 1, sending the four astronauts on a planned 10-day test flight around the Moon and back.
After reaching space, Orion deployed its four solar array wings, enabling the spacecraft to receive energy from the Sun, while the crew and engineers on the ground immediately began transitioning the spacecraft from launch to flight operations to start checking out key systems.
About 49 minutes into the test flight, the SLS rocket’s upper stage fired to put Orion into an elliptical orbit around Earth. A second planned burn by the stage propelled Orion, which the crew named “Integrity,” into a high Earth orbit extending about 46,000 miles above the Earth for about 24 hours of system checkouts. After the burn, Orion separated from the stage, flying free on its own.
The crew then conducted a manual piloting demonstration to test Orion’s handling qualities using the ICPS (interim cryogenic propulsion stage) as a docking target.
At the conclusion of the demonstration, Orion executed an automated departure burn to safely back away from the ICPS, after which the stage performed its own disposal burn and re-entered Earth’s atmosphere over a remote region of the Pacific Ocean.
Prior to its re-entry, four small CubeSats were deployed from SLS rocket’s Orion stage adapter.
Other tasks completed so far include a transition to the Deep Space Network for communications, the crew becoming acclimated to the space environment, completing their first rest periods, performing the first flywheel exercise, restoring the spacecraft’s toilet to normal operations, and configuring the spacecraft for the translunar injection burn.
During a planned lunar flyby on Monday, April 6, the astronauts will take high resolution photographs and provide their own observations of the lunar surface, including areas of the far side of the Moon never seen directly by humans. Although the lunar far side will only be partially illuminated during the flyby, the conditions should create shadows that stretch across the surface, enhancing relief and revealing depth, ridges, slopes, and crater rims that are often difficult to detect under full illumination.
Following a successful lunar flyby, the astronauts will return to Earth and splash down in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of San Diego.
As part of a Golden Age of innovation and exploration, NASA will send Artemis astronauts on increasingly challenging missions to explore more of the Moon for scientific discovery, economic benefits, and to build on our foundation for the first crewed missions to Mars.

The Artemis II mission crossed a crucial and historic threshold Thursday when the Orion spacecraft ignited its engine and propelled four astronauts toward the moon, setting them on a days-long slingshot trip that will reach deeper into space than any human has traveled before.
The burn, as these engine firings are called, lasted for a brief 5 minutes and 50 seconds, while Orion was just 115 miles (185 kilometers) above Earth, according to NASA. But the engine firing marked the first time humans — in this case NASA’s Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover and Christina Koch and Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen — have made a move to leave Earth orbit since 1972 with the Apollo 17 mission. And with Glover, Koch and Hansen aboard, the journey represents the first time a Black astronaut, a woman astronaut and a non-American astronaut, respectively, have ventured this far.
“Humanity has once again shown what we are capable of, and it’s your hopes for the future that carry us now on this journey around the moon,” Hansen said right after the burn.
Orion will now be on what’s called a “free return trajectory.” That’s spaceflight parlance for a slingshot trip: Because of orbital dynamics and the moon’s gravity, even if Orion never fires its engine again, the capsule will still swing around the moon and head back to Earth.
The mission, which took off at 6:35 p.m. ET Wednesday, marks the inaugural crewed flight of NASA’s Artemis program — a long-term plan to return humans to the moon and eventually establish a lunar settlement. After lifting off atop a towering Space Launch System rocket, the astronauts immediately began putting Orion through its paces, including taking their Orion spacecraft for a 70-minute manual test-drive called a “proximity operations demonstration.”
For just over a week, the crewmembers will live, eat, sleep, workout and carry out science experiments inside the campervan-size space of Orion. All the while, they’ll face a multitude of risks that are inherent with a deep-space mission.
Here’s what you’ll want to watch for as Artemis II makes its way around the moon.
Live views of the crew
While the astronauts will keep much of their lives tucked inside the 16.5-foot-wide (5-meter-wide ) Orion capsule private, NASA plans to offer a brief broadcast from inside the capsule nearly every day of the mission.
NASA will occasionally give the public the opportunity to tune in and listen to the so-called downlink events as the astronauts speak to journalists and other inquirers on the ground. The first such event happened on Thursday, with reporters prompting the crew to share some fascinating details and reflections.
Wiseman, the mission’s commander, detailed a moment that left the crew speechless.
On Thursday evening, “Mission Control Houston reoriented our spacecraft as the sun was setting behind the Earth,” Wiseman said, “and I don’t know what we all expected to see at that moment — but you could see the entire globe, from pole to pole.
“You could see Africa, Europe, and if you looked really close, you could see the northern lights. It was the most spectacular moment, and it paused all four of us in our tracks.”

A key comms test
Among the activities planned for Day 3 is a test of communications equipment via the Deep Space Network, a communications system that supports space missions and provides radar and radio observations.
The DSN is “a ground-based network of large tracking dishes all around the world that together can determine Orion’s location while it is in deep space outside the range of GPS,” according to NASA.
The network consists of antennas positioned equidistant from one another in the United States, Spain and Australia, according to NASA.
These aren’t your typical TV satellites that give you the latest cable channels. Each DSN antenna is about 230 feet (70 meters) wide — taking up about two-thirds of a football field. DSN satellites also have a tracking capacity, providing measurement to the ground crew to allow them to determine a spacecraft’s precise location and velocity.
However, there will still be moments during the remainder of the mission where the Artemis II astronauts will lose all contact with the team of mission controllers as they attempt to go farther than any human has ever gone before.
One of those blackouts will occur during the roughly 40-minute period during which the crew is traveling closest to the moon’s surface as they venture to the lunar far side, blocking data from transmitting to or from Earth.
Entering the ‘sphere of influence’
En route to the moon, the Orion spacecraft will use its engine to stay on course, carrying out what NASA calls “trajectory correction” maneuvers. It’s all in the name of keeping the vehicle on a precision course toward that silvery orb in the sky.
At one point on Day 5 of this flight, late this Sunday, the spacecraft will officially cross the threshold of the lunar sphere of influence — the point in space where the tug of the moon’s gravity is stronger than Earth’s gravity.
A record-breaking lunar flyby
Day 6 of this mission will bring the highly anticipated crowning achievement. A sweeping lunar flyby will offer the crew unprecedented views of the moon’s far side — and allow the team to surpass the record for the farthest humans have ever traveled in space.
If all goes as planned, Artemis II will best the record set by Apollo 13 in 1970 by 3,366 miles (about 5,400 kilometers), reaching 252,021 miles (about 405,000 kilometers) from Earth.

No permission was granted over the period. Sadly, he had to make the compulsory trip because his wife had called that one of the babies had died. And she urged him to come see the other twin in case he will die too.
I asked him why he didn’t leave earlier than he left. He replied that he waited with the hope that salaries will be paid, since today is second, but it wasn’t, unfortunately. How then do you intend to make it, I asked him. He showed me all the money he had on him –4,500 which wasn’t even enough to get him to his destination.

Soldiers, Armoured Tanks Deployed To INEC Headquarters Abuja Over Planned ADC Protest
Armed soldiers and heavily equipped police operatives on Thursday took over the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja following threats of mass protest by members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), SaharaReporters has learnt.
Pictures obtained by SaharaReporters show a large deployment of Nigerian Army personnel stationed around the commission’s premises, alongside armoured tanks and officers of the Nigeria Police Force bearing assault rifles and other weapons.
The security presence comes amid rising tensions within the ADC over a deepening leadership crisis that has split the party into rival factions.
Sources told SaharaReporters that the show of force is linked to reports indicating that aggrieved members of the party were planning to stage a protest at the electoral body’s office over recent decisions affecting the party’s leadership structure.
On Wednesday, INEC announced the removal of the names of David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola from its official portal as National Chairman and National Secretary of the ADC respectively, citing an ongoing court dispute.
The commission said it acted in compliance with “preservatory orders” issued by the Court of Appeal, which directed all parties to maintain the status quo pending the determination of the case before the Federal High Court in Abuja.
According to INEC, the order arose from a legal battle involving Mark and another party chieftain, Nafiu Bala Gombe, with multiple factions laying claim to the party’s leadership.
“The names of the current National Working Committee members led by Senator David Mark… would be removed from the INEC portal pursuant to the order of the Court of Appeal to maintain the status quo ante bellum,” the commission had said.
INEC further disclosed that it had received conflicting communications from rival factions, with one group warning against recognising Gombe as acting chairman, while another demanded full implementation of the appellate court ruling.
Amid the confusion, the commission declared that it would suspend recognition of any faction of the ADC and refrain from engaging with any group until the court delivers a final judgment.
“The commission shall not receive any further communication or deal with any of the parties or groups… and will not monitor any meeting, congress or convention convened on behalf of the ADC by any group,” INEC stated.
The development has since triggered outrage among party members, some of whom accuse the electoral body of bias and political interference.
As of Thursday morning, security operatives had cordoned off parts of the INEC headquarters, restricting movement in and out of the facility, while maintaining a visible show of force to deter any potential unrest.
Fresh Violence As Gunmen Kill Two Persons Near Plateau Polytechnic, Students Flee In Panic
Fear and confusion gripped residents of a community opposite the Plateau State Polytechnic late Wednesday night after suspected gunmen launched a deadly attack, killing two people and leaving others injured.
The attack, which occurred around 11pm in Ban community, sent shockwaves across the area as multiple gunshots forced residents — including students living off-campus — to flee for safety.
Sources told SaharaReporters that at least three persons were hit by bullets during the assault and were rushed to hospital for treatment, while two victims were confirmed dead.
The sudden eruption of violence triggered panic among students of the polytechnic, many of whom abandoned their lodges amid fears of further attacks.
“It was a night of buzzing guns. These guys kept firing unchallenged for almost an hour. We had to find ways to escape,” said James Nanbut, a student of the institution.
In a related development, another deadly incident had occurred hours earlier in Riyom Local Government Area, further heightening tension across the region.
At about 8:15 p.m., gunmen reportedly ambushed a group of youths along the road between Baten village in Wereng Ward and Du’a village in Kwi Ward, killing 27-year-old Amos Monday.
The back-to-back attacks have raised fresh concerns about worsening insecurity in parts of Plateau State, particularly in Riyom, Jos South, and Barkin Ladi areas.
Rwang Tengwong, spokesperson of the Berom Youth Moulders, confirmed both incidents and urged residents to remain vigilant.
“We are calling on people in Kwi, Wereng, and neighbouring communities to stay alert and take necessary precautions,” he said.
Attempts to get official confirmation from the Plateau State Police Command were unsuccessful, as calls and messages sent to its spokesperson, SP Alfred Alabo, were not responded to as of press time.

Here is a clean technical breakdown of these incidents:
1. FCMB: The ₦3.5 Billion Heist
This was a logic based exploitation of the bank's digital transaction pipeline
Attackers identified a flaw in the API reconciliation layer, specifically involving the Payattitude integration
By exploiting this vulnerability, hackers initiated transactions that the system validated as successful even though the source accounts were unfunded. This is known as a Zero Balance or Double Spend exploit.
While the system eventually flagged the anomaly at the ₦3.5 billion mark, the latency in the bank's real-time fraud monitoring allowed ₦677 million to be successfully routed to mule accounts and withdrawn before the kill switch was activated.
2. Sterling Bank: The 900k+ Record Exfiltration
This event was kinda like a Network Intrusion targeted at customer identity data, allegedly carried out by the threat actor ByteToBreach.
The breach targeted a critical vulnerability in the Oracle WebLogic Server. This middleware sits between the public facing applications and the bank’s private databases.
Attackers bypassed authentication to extract roughly 2.2 GB of data.
The data contained Personally Identifiable Information (PII) for over 900,000 customers, including names, contact details, and internal Customer Information File (CIF) numbers. This data is highly valuable for "Social Engineering 2.0, where scammers use real account details to trick victims into revealing OTPs or other lateral valuable infos
3. Remita: The 3TB S3 Infrastructure Exposure
This was a Critical Cloud Misconfiguration representing one of the largest infrastructure level exposures in the Nigerian fintech space
A massive Amazon S3 Bucket (Cloud Storage) was left in a Public Read state. This meant the data was accessible to anyone with the endpoint URL, requiring no hacking tools or passwords to download
The volume 3 Terabytes indicates an entire archival Data Lake was exposed. This typically includes millions of individual files and logs accumulated over years
800GB+ of KYC Documents, Massive troves of sensitive personal data, including Passports, Government IDs, Bank Statements, and Utility Bills
Core Databases: Full exports of MySQL and Postgres databases, including three primary databases and over 35,000+ password hashes
The Master Keys: Exposure of Government HSM (Hardware Security Module) keys, which are used to encrypt and authorize high-level financial transactions
Developer Blueprints: Source code, Docker registries, and GitKraken-to-S3 backups, providing a literal how-to guide for attackers to find further vulnerabilities in the system's logic
The exposure included transaction archives, RRR (Remita Retrieval Reference) metadata, and internal system logs. Most dangerously, logs of this size often leak secrets such as API keys and session tokens, which provide a roadmap for attackers to move laterally into other connected financial systems.

Residents of the Bukuru Low-cost community in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State were on Tuesday thrown into mourning and shock following the discovery of the dead body of a woman dumped in a river in the locality.
The gruesome discovery was made on Tuesday by residents who gathered at the riverbank, expressing shock and disbelief over the incident.rrrrr 2
A video showing the concerned residents pulling the woman’s corpse out of the river is circulating online.
One of the residents, Tina Gabriel, who spoke to our correspondent, confirmed the gruesome murder of the deceased by unknown persons, expressing shock and outrage over the incident.
“This is terrible, we can’t believe someone would kill a person and dump their body in our river. I have not seen a thing like this before.
Another male resident, who wished to remain anonymous, condemned the act, saying, “We need justice for this woman. The perpetrator must be caught and punished.”
He said the police had been notified and that investigations are ongoing to identify the victim and apprehend those responsible.
“When we were alerted to the discovery of the corpse, people gathered. Some policemen also came to the scene. The woman’s body was taken to the mortuary for further examination.”
At the time of filing this report, the state police command’s spokesman, Alabo Alfred, had not responded to inquiries regarding the discovery.
Our correspondent reports that last week, a similar incident happened where residents of the Special Site in Pankshin Local Government Area of Plateau State expressed outrage over the discovery of aborted twins dumped in a polythene bag at a refuse site.
The remains of the male and female fetuses, believed to be about five months old, were found on Wednesday behind the residence of a commercial driver, Enman Danladi, sparking grief and condemnation across the community.
Eyewitnesses said the discovery was made by a farmer who noticed a dog sniffing a polythene bag with flies hovering around it at the dump.
Recounting the incident, Danladi said the farmer alerted him after making the discovery.
“I had just returned from work when the man knocked on my door and asked me to follow him to the refuse dump behind my house,” he said.
“He told me he had been chasing away a dog that was sniffing a polythene bag. When he eventually opened it, he discovered the aborted twins and quickly came to inform me,” Danladi said, adding that he immediately mobilized neighbors to the scene, and the remains were later buried at the site.

Golf superstar Tiger Woods was arrested and charged with driving under the influence Friday afternoon after he was involved in a rollover crash, Florida authorities said.
The crash happened shortly before 2 p.m. in Jupiter Island, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office said.
There were no injuries in the crash, which also involved a truck pulling a trailer.
According to law enforcement officials, Woods, 50, was driving a dark Land Rover and clipped the truck.
The driver of the truck told officials that he was starting to turn into a driveway off a two-lane road when he looked in his mirror and saw Woods driving “at high speeds,” officials said Friday evening.
When the truck’s driver tried to get off the road, the Land Rover “overtook” the truck at the last minute, swerved to avoid a crash but ultimately clipped the back of the trailer.
Woods’ SUV rolled on the driver’s side door. The golfer climbed out of the window, officials said.
Neither Woods nor the truck driver were injured.
Responding law enforcement officers suspected Woods was impaired. He submitted to a breath test, but refused to do a urine test, officials said. He told officers he had taken medication for prior injuries, officials said.
He was arrested at the scene and taken to a local jail.
The golf star is also facing one charge of refusing to take a test, officials said.
Earlier in the week, Woods played in a match Tuesday in the finals for Tomorrow’s Golf League, where his team, Jupiter Links Golf Club, lost to the Los Angeles Golf Club.
