FORCED PROSTITUTION HOTEL BUSTED IN LAGOS BY NIGERIA POLICE
A 16-year-old girl reported herself at a police station, alleging that she was being forced into prostitution and subjected to maltreatment in a hotel in Lagos Island.
Following her report, the Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai lead a team to the hotel where the girl and about 30 other underage girls were reportedly being exploited for prostitution.
The owner of the hotel was not found during the operation. However, about 12 of the girls were rescued and taken into protective police custody.
The woman who allegedly brought the 16-year-old girl to Lagos was later arrested. Investigations revealed that the girl had been brought to the city without being informed that she would be forced into prostitution.

Death toll climbs to 55 after powerful earthquake hits southern Philippines
Thousands displaced and housed in temporary shelters while emergency responders race to reach isolated communities.
Death toll from the powerful earthquake that struck the southern Philippines earlier this week has risen to 55, authorities said Thursday, as search and rescue teams continued efforts in the hardest-hit areas of Mindanao.
Reports from the Philippines indicated that dozens of people remain injured, while several others are still missing amid widespread destruction caused by the strong tremor.
According to the Philippine News Agency (PNA), local disaster management officials confirmed the updated casualty figure after additional bodies were recovered from collapsed buildings and landslide-hit communities. Rescue operations have been hampered by continuing aftershocks, unstable structures, and damaged roads leading to affected towns.
The 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Mindanao, triggering panic across the southern Philippines and causing extensive damage to homes, schools, hospitals, and public infrastructure. General Santos City and parts of Sarangani province were among the worst-affected areas, with authorities declaring states of calamity to speed up emergency response and relief efforts.
Thousands of residents have been displaced and are staying in evacuation centers as officials assess structural damage and distribute food, water, and medical assistance. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology has recorded numerous aftershocks since the quake, prompting warnings for residents to avoid damaged buildings.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has pledged full government support for affected communities and ordered national agencies to accelerate recovery and rehabilitation measures. The Philippines is located along the Pacific Ring of Fire, one of the world's most seismically active regions, making earthquakes a frequent occurrence in the archipelago.

Abdulsalami Abubakar has revealed the dramatic events surrounding the death of Sani Abacha in 1998, following which he became Nigeria’s new head of state.
In his autobiography, ‘Call of Duty’, to be unveiled today in Abuja to mark his 84th birthday, the retired general wrote that he was deceived that Abacha wanted to see him on the morning of June 8, 1998.
But on getting to the Presidential Villa, he was locked up in a room for over one hour without any explanations — until the late Ibrahim Coomassie, then inspector-general of police, came to open the door.
The autobiography, published by Cable Books, an imprint of Cable Media & Publishing Ltd, is distributed nationwide by Rovingheights Bookstores and can also be ordered on Amazon.
‘THEY SAID ABACHA WANTED TO SEE ME’
He wrote: “On Monday, 8 June, I received a call very early in the morning that he (Abacha) wanted to see me. I quietly prayed that he would not send me to Togo where there was going to be an ECOWAS summit. I was tired of going everywhere.
“By this time, Lt-General Diya, his No 2, was in detention (over an alleged coup plot). I was effectively the No 2 man in government and I was always representing him at events. I told my wife I was not happy with the call because I didn’t want to travel to Togo. I told my orderly to pack my travelling bag and other personal effects.
“As I entered the bathroom, there was another call. I was told again that the Head of State wanted to see me. Out of frustration, I asked if I was travelling to Togo and the caller replied that it was on another issue. Because of the urgency, I didn’t wear my uniform. I wore a tracksuit and slippers and proceeded to the Presidential Villa.
“On getting to his residence, I was told he was in the office. I wondered why he would be that early in the office. As I was climbing the stairs, one of the guards informed me that Abacha said I should stay in the waiting room. What struck me was that anytime I went to see him, regardless of who was with him, I would still go in.”
‘IGP BROKE THE NEWS OF ABACHA’S DEATH TO ME’
Abdulsalami was in the waiting room for a while and felt something was not right.
“After waiting for about half an hour, I reasoned that it was odd. Major-General Ishaya Bamaiyi joined me shortly after. We waited for about an hour. I decided to go and see Abacha by any means because I could not understand why I should be kept that long. To my greatest surprise, the door of the waiting room had been locked. I asked Bamaiyi if he was aware that we had been locked inside. Something kept telling me that something was wrong but I could not place a finger on it,” he said.
“After some time, the door was opened and the Inspector General of Police, Alhaji Ibrahim Coomassie, came in. He said: ‘Let’s go.’ We walked towards the residence and I informed him that I was told Abacha was at the office. It was at this stage that he informed me that Abacha was dead. I was shocked. I asked him what happened and he insisted we proceed first. He did not tell me anything else.
“When we got to the residence, I asked to see Abacha’s body. I was told it was inside. I entered the room and removed the covering. I was in shock at the sudden development. I prayed for him and left the room.”
Abdulsalami did not reveal who ordered the door of the waiting room to be locked but insinuated that some military officers had “other plans” as events unfolded.
Later in the day, Abdulsalami was named Abacha’s successor after a vote by the Provisional Ruling Council (PRC).
He organised a very short transition programmed and went on to hand over to a democratically elected government, led by President Olusegun Obasanjo, in May 1999.
Abdulsalami Abubakar (born June 13, 1942) is a Nigerian statesman and retired Nigerian Army general who served as the de facto President of Nigeria from 1998 to 1999. He was also Chief of Defence Staff between 1993 and 1998. He succeeded General Sani Abacha upon his death.
During his leadership, Nigeria adopted a modified version of the 1979 constitution, which provided for multiparty elections. He transferred power to president-elect Olusegun Obasanjo on 29 May 1999. He is the current Chairman of the National Peace Committee.
Abubakar from the Hausa ethnic group was born on 13 June 1942 to his father Abubakar Jibrin and his mother Fatikande Mohammed, in Minna, Niger State, Nigeria.
From 1950 to 1956 he attended Minna Native Authority Primary school. From 1957 to 1962, he had his secondary school education at Government College, Bida, Niger State. From January to October 1963 he studied at Kaduna Technical College.
Presidency
Nigeria had been ruled by military leaders since Muhammadu Buhari seized power from Shehu Shagari in a 1983 coup. Although democratic elections had been held in 1993, they were annulled by General Ibrahim Babangida. Reported to have had an initial reluctance to accepting the position, Abubakar was sworn in as president on 9 June 1998 after the unexpected death of Abacha. He declared a weeklong period of national mourning.
A few days after assuming office, Abubakar promised to hold elections within a year and transfer power to an elected president. He established the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), appointing former Supreme Court Justice Ephraim Akpata as chairman. The INEC held a series of elections first for Local Government Areas in December 1998, then for State Assemblies and Governors, National Assemblies and finally for the President on 27 February 1999. Although efforts were made to ensure that the elections were free and fair, there were widespread irregularities that drew criticism from foreign observers.
Transfer of power
Surprising some critics of the country's military, in May 1999 General Abubakar, handed over power to the newly elected civilian president, Olusegun Obasanjo and retired from the army.

Bond_not_james shares a video arguing that Nigerian "jazz" or "juju" used by kidnappers and "one chance" operators is likely scopolamine, a real substance causing compliance, disorientation, and amnesia rather than supernatural forces.
Scopolamine, derived from plants, is covertly administered via powder or drinks and documented in South American crimes for inducing suggestible states where victims hand over valuables while appearing conscious.
This is most likely the same substance kidnappers and one chance operators use in Nigeria, but we call it Jazz. 😂

How pretending not to understand Yoruba helped me date twin sisters simultaneously in boarding school — Actor David Oyelowo reveals
Award-winning British-Nigerian actor David Oyelowo has shared a hilarious story about his time at a boarding school in Nigeria, revealing how he pretended not to understand Yoruba while secretly listening to everything happening around him.
Speaking during an interview, Oyelowo said he spoke Yoruba fluently while growing up but decided to hide that fact when he attended boarding school in Nigeria as a teenager.
According to him, his foreign accent made many of his classmates assume he could not understand the language, and he used that misconception to his advantage.
“It was like being the invisible man,” the actor said, explaining that students freely spoke around him in Yoruba, unaware that he understood every word.
Oyelowo recalled overhearing conversations about himself, including girls discussing their feelings for him. He said some would pretend not to like him while saying the exact opposite in Yoruba.
The actor jokingly revealed that the situation even led to him dating twins at the same time, a confession that left the interviewer stunned and laughing.
He also admitted to hearing classmates gossip and sometimes speak negatively about him in the dormitory, but said he had the discipline to keep his secret throughout his two years at the school.
The biggest surprise came on his final day. Oyelowo said he went around speaking Yoruba to everyone before leaving, leaving his classmates shocked after discovering that he had understood their conversations all along.
“Their faces,” he recalled with laughter, describing the priceless reactions he received after finally revealing the truth.

The first batch of Nigerians repatriated from South Africa following recent xenophobic attacks have arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos Thursday morning.
The returnees were transported aboard an Air Peace flight which departed O.R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg on Wednesday night.

Security agencies, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), FAAN officials are on ground for through documentation and profiling procedures of evacuated Nigerians.
The aircraft’s landing followed hours of waiting by security personnel and other border management officials who kept vigil at the airport.
Scores of personnel had thronged the airport airside to witness the arrival of Nigerians, who continue to recount their ordeal in South Africa.
The Nation reports federal government had fully funded the repatriation exercise and also put in place the necessary reception and support arrangements for the returnees.

The repatriation exercise follows concerns over attacks targeting foreign nationals in parts of South Africa, prompting Nigerian authorities to facilitate the voluntary return of affected citizens.

Nigerian man explains why he cancelled his wedding on the day and left his bride stranded.
"I cancelled my wedding last month and I'm going to give you the reason. And judge me if na bad thing I do [if what I did was bad].I was dating this beautiful girl. While I was dating her, I know say I get money [I know I have money], but people just dey see the money, they don't know say eyes are these two smart [I'm smart too].So this girl wey I dey date, the relationship don dey serious.
And before I marry you, I must run a lot of tests around you to make sure I'm not tying myself in bondage or something like that.
So look here properly... What I did is, I go buy one tiny rope light camera. I put one tiny camera inside the bulb near the chandelier bulb in her bedroom. And every day, blue film [porn] — watching her sex different guys while we are planning marriage. She no know [she didn't know] say every day I dey watch free blue film. She was cheating all along — six different guys slept with her on her bed in her bedroom.

Now this is what happened: I knew I was not into that wedding. I let her and we cook [I went along with the planning]. Now from decor outside control [the decorations and everything were set], first day talk to them for you do this show them [I left them to handle it]. Yeah, they are not there. Nigeria again.
‘Let’s finalise the divorce’ — Peggy Ovire accuses Frederick Leonard of affair with mother of 4
Peggy Ovire, the Nigerian actress, has publicly accused Frederick Leonard, her husband, of having an affair with a married woman.
In a series of posts on her Instagram stories, Ovire shared a video of Leonard holding hands with a woman she claims is the married woman in question, describing the pair as “shameless lots”.
The Nollywood star also alleged that the woman is a mother of four. She claimed that Leonard had previously denied her accusations and insisted she was lying until she presented evidence.
Ovire further accused him of failing to appear in court for their divorce proceedings, despite initiating the divorce.
She urged him to attend the next hearing on June 23 so the marriage can be formally dissolved.
“Married woman oh. Shameless lots. Please don’t avoid coming to customary court June 23rd, for the 2nd time,” she wrote.
“So called traditional Igbo man with another Igbo man’s wife with 4 children, you ran to a blogger that I was lying but when you were served & saw details of my petition, you knew I had seen 1 out of many, yet refused to show up in court but sent your lawyer.
“You said you wanted a divorce yet you didn’t show up when you were served, please don’t avoid customary court for the 2nd time on June 23rd because I’m coming with receipts & let’s make this Divorce done & dusted. So both of you can be finally together.”
The actress also reposted a message from February 8 in which she asked her followers: “What will you do if you find out that the man you are dating is sleeping with a married woman with kids?”
In that earlier post, she described a scenario where a woman discovers that her partner, whom she later marries, has been secretly involved with a married woman, repeatedly denies it, and continues the affair even after marriage.
The post appeared to mirror Ovire’s alleged experience in her own marriage.
As of the time of this report, Leonard has not responded to the allegations.
Leonard first introduced Ovire as his partner on her birthday in 2022, and the couple married a month later.
Meanwhile, a throwback video of Peggy Ovire openly showered love on Frederick Leonard during their traditional wedding saying “I can beat my chest that he doesn’t womanize. Please don’t change,” has resurfaced online amid the marital brouhaha.

A married woman identified as Oluchi has been found in a hotel in Delta State after she faked her abduction and demanded N50 million from her family.
Children of the woman, including her daughter in Canada, had pleaded with the public to help them raise money even as the kidnappers reduced the ransom to N20m.
They had told the police that their mother was kidnapped at the Ikpoba Hill area of Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State.
But the police investigation led its crack team to Delta State, where the supposedly kidnapped woman was found with her lover in a hotel.
A source said, “Police traced the number of the man to a hotel in Ubiaroko, Delta State. They met the man and the kidnapped woman inside a hotel. They called the husband, and he was happy. It was at the station that the police broke the news to him. The wife begged the husband not to tell her children what actually transpired.”
In an online video, her daughter, Anita, who is based in Canada, said her mum’s action has shattered the family. She vowed that the family would allow the law to take its course.
According to her, “My mum has been released. My mum is involved in this kidnapping case. I only did what I did to save my mom. The family is in shock. This is not right. This has shattered my family. My dad has some health issues. This is so unfortunate. What did I do wrong?
“My reputation has been ruined. I am short of words. I am so mad. I have no hand in this. I never knew. I only wanted my mother back home. The law will take its course. I am sorry this is happening. I only did what any daughter would do. My family has been shattered.
“We were called that my mum has been released. We didn’t pay the kidnappers. The money is intact. We are going to make a refund. We involved the Police from the beginning. We now know it was not a real kidnapping. They said my mom is involved. They are having a relationship. The guy was traced. They had agreed to take what we already raised to N20m.”
The Harmony Ladies Club, a social club Anita belongs to, in a statement on its WhatsApp group and forwarded to journalists, dissociated itself from the staged kidnapping.
It expressed deep disappointment, shock, and embarrassment at Mrs. Oluchi’s actions.
The statement read, “When news of her alleged abduction broke, the club acted swiftly in good faith. Out of sisterhood, love, and a sense of community responsibility, we rallied immediately.
“Our members provided extensive emotional, logistical, and financial support during what we believed was a life-threatening crisis, carrying the heavy burden of anxiety alongside her family.
“It is with a profound sense of betrayal that we have now discovered, through investigations, that the entire kidnapping incident was staged by Mrs. Oluchi herself.”
Edo Police spokesman, Eno Ikoedem, confirmed the incident and said four persons have been arrested in connection with the incident.
She added, “I can confirm the incident and also let you know that four people have also been arrested in connection with the incident.”
"There has been an ongoing investigation alleging the involvement of my mum in this kidn@pping case. I am in shock. This has shattered my whole family. My dad has heart issues; I don't know how he will get through this."
