The issue of Petrol smuggling persists because it is a northern affair and also because the NNPC uses fake import quantities to loot and from there claim the huge daily consumption is as a result of smuggling.

There is fuel smuggling and it is limited to the northern borders and is a fully northern affair but not at the level the NNPC claims. All the southern international land borders are heavily policed or closed like that of the Cameroun border. So any smuggling that is occurring is going on in the north.

The NNPC is using smuggling to steal and loot in the name of non-existing fuel imports.
