Fashion / How To Choose The Right Haircut (for Men) by NNFems: 1:31pm On Feb 05, 2017
Oval face

Men born with this face shape are really lucky. It suits almost all of the hairstyles, so rock anything you want, because you CAN. However, try to avoid long fringes, as this makes your face look rounder than it is. Instead of that, try to push it back. Choose a haircut depending on what face features you want to enhance. Sharp angles and volume makes it look a bit sharper and more masculine.

Round face

With a round face, try to choose a hairstyle with sharp angles and volume. Make the sides shorter and the top longer, this will make your face look longer than it is. Creating a side part also makes sure your face looks longer. Avoid haircuts with full fringes and buzzcuts, because they make the face look rounder.

Oblong face

Oblong face also suit quite a lot of hairstyles, except for ones that are really short and tight on the sides, as it can make your face look much longer. Try something that are longer on the sides and layer the top. Wearing the hair down also could make it rounder and a bit shorter.

Square face

Considered by many the ideal face shape for men, it suits all of the hairstyles, even sharp and angular ones, because it will bring out the masculinity even more. Current modern hairstyles such as the undercut and fades look great as well. Hell, even the buzzcut looks awesome!

Diamond or triangle face shape

These type of face shapes often look the best with shorter hair on the sides and longer on the top. Modern fades and the undercut look great on this face shape as well. Side parts also bring out the masculinity with these face shapes.

Fashion / How To Get Thicker Hair Naturally by NNFems: 10:40am On Feb 01, 2017
Hair loss is a common problem nowadays. As hair is regarded as an asset that enhances one’s physical appearance, balding or thinning hair is a problem that many want to correct as soon as possible.

Some of the common factors contributing to thinning hair are excessive physical or emotional stress, hormonal imbalances, nutritional deficiencies, pollution, allergies, use of wrong hair care products, poor hair care routine, and heredity.

Here are the top 5 ways to get thicker hair naturally.

1. Eggs
Regular protein treatment is essential to enjoy stronger and thicker hair. For a protein hair treatment, the best ingredient is eggs.

2. Olive Oil
Olive oil will also add body to your hair. Plus, it will help soften and strengthen your tresses.

3. Avocado

4. Fenugreek Seeds
Fenugreek seeds can also be used to prevent hair loss and enjoy better hair growth.

5. Indian Gooseberry
The anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antibacterial and exfoliating properties present in Indian gooseberry can help a lot in maintaining a healthy scalp and better hair growth rate.

Fashion / 5 Easy Tips For Super-soft Hair by NNFems: 9:26am On Jan 31, 2017
Prepare to be everyone's hair crush! These tips make your strands sooo silky.

1. Suck Up Excess Water
The drier your hair, the more nutrients it absorbs. After you shampoo, wrap hair in a towel for two minutes to dry it a bit before you add conditioner.

2. Only Treat Ends
Don't condition roots- that hair is new and healthy! Apply a palmful of treatment from midshaft down and distribute with a wide-tooth comb to make sure every strand is coated,

3. Trap Heat
Dampen the inside of a terry-lined shower cap, and wear it for 10 minutes while the conditioner is in your hair. The cap will trap in steam that opens up hair follicles, so your hair will really soak in the good stuff in the treatment.

4. Don't Rinse Too Well
Fight the instinct to get squeaky clean! Rinse with cold water until your hair is slightly slippery. The conditioner that's left on your strands will keep working throughout the day.

5. Pick Your Perf Treatment
Fine and dry hair: Keep your do bouncy! A deep conditioner with vitamin E hydrates without adding the heavy oils that weigh hair down.
Color-treated hair: Your DIY ombre is amaze, but dye dulls shine. Amp up gloss with an oil treatment- it will smooth brittle ends too!

Damaged hair: Your strands need love! Pick a formula with keratin- it adds shine and strengthens hair to prevent future breakage.

Fashion / How To Lighten Hair Naturally: And Add Highlights by NNFems: 2:35pm On Jan 30, 2017
1. Lemons
Lemon juice, diluted half and half with distilled water, will lighten dark blond or light brown hair and won’t leave reddish tones unless your hair already has them.

2. Vinegar
Vinegar, like raw apple cider vinegar, will leave reddish highlights in the same hair color. Mix apple cider vinegar 50/50 with distilled water. Spray on all over to lighten all of your hair or apply with a cotton ball or brush for strands of highlights. Leave on 30 minutes and rinse out. Dry as usual. (Of all of these options, I’ve used this method the most. I have naturally reddish tones to my hair and try to keep it looking natural.)

3. Peroxide
Dilute hydrogen peroxide half and half with water as well. Apply as directed above and test after 15-20 minutes. Peroxide will lighten quickly without the worry of drying out like commercial hair bleaches. Wash out well after you get to the shade you want.

4. Chamomile
My grandmother used to swear by chamomile to lighten darker hair. She said to brew a really strong cup of chamomile tea and let it cool. Then apply to individual strands of hair for highlights, or pour over entire head for all over color. Go out into the sun and let it dry, usually about 30 minutes. Wash out and style as usual.

5. Henna
On most hair, henna will only darken, but on very dark brown or black hair, henna can lighten and leave reddish highlights. Use about 3 tablespoons of henna powder to ½ cup of boiling water. Let this sit for 12 hours or overnight. Then apply to your hair and let sit for 2-3 hours. Wash out well and style as you normally would.

Fashion / Back To Basics: How To Wash Your Natural Hair by NNFems: 12:54pm On Jan 29, 2017
[img][/img]If you have a head full of natural hair like myself, wash day can be a bit intimidating if your new to the healthy natural hair scene. A bit of water touches your hair and you're instantly introduced to shrinkage, tangles and knots. Knowing how to wash your natural hair is priceless. I'm going to give you my top tips for getting through wash day with natural hair.

1. Prepoo With Oil

If you need to familiarize yourself with the details of prepooing. I try to do a prepoo before every single shampoo, especially my clarifying shampoos since the entire process of washing can be very rough on the hair. Applying a natural oil to the hair from root to tip about 30 minutes before a shampoo can be nourishing and give a protective shield to the hair. I recently found out that coconut oil applied to the hair at least 20 minutes before shampooing can reduce stress known as hygral fatigue on the hair. So prepoo with coconut oil before hand to give your hair a fighting chance.

2. Section And Wash

If you have 6 inches or more of natural hair length, washing the whole head of hair loose may not be the best way to do things. Try sectioning your hair into 4 or 6 sections that twisted or braided. Remove one braid or twist at a time and wash that particular section only. Re-twist or braid the section when the section is washed. This process takes a lot longer, but fewer tangles, knots and breakage is totally worth it.

3. Lather Once With A Sulfate Free Shampoo

Shampoo is for cleaning the scalp, and the run off of water and suds work to clean the length of hair. If you get the scalp and hair sufficiently wet, you should be able to get shampoo right to the scalp and work a good lather. Rinse well with lukewarm water and your hair should be clean. If you feel like you need another wash, opt for a conditioner wash (co-wash) instead.

4. Follow Up with Conditioner

Don't forget to always follow up your 'poo with an instant conditioner and if you're really feeling yourself, hop out and deep treat right quick with a gentle heat source! You will need to replenish the moisture back into your hair, as well as detangle your hair with a moisture rich conditioner. Check out this list of best products with slip.

5. Dry Hair With A Microfiber Towel or T-shirt

Traditional cotton towels can really tangle and break hair due to the structure. Try a microfiber towel or plain t-shirt to dry the hair instead. Be sure to squeeze and blot the water out of the hair and avoid rubbing.

Just remember that a little bit of breakage while washing or doing anything to the hair is inevitable, but be sure to keep an eye out for excessive breakage. Give yourself a good protein treatment, balance your hair out with moisture and assess your diet in this case. When all else fails...consult a physician. Doctors (sometimes) know best!

Fashion / Why You Should Use Apple Hair Groom: 5 Advantages Of A Long Hair by NNFems: 11:49am On Jan 28, 2017
1. Looks beautiful
Long hair is like a huge, beautiful landscape. It makes a woman look more beautiful and gorgeous. Long hair adds oomph to her persona. This is probably the reason why most celebs like Penelope Cruz, Beyonce Knowles and Salma Hayek prefer long hair.

2. Attracts men
Most men find women with long and beautiful hair attractive. Long hair is a turn on for most men. Long hair makes women appear more feminine and sexy. Women with short hair, on the contrary, are stereotyped as ‘tomboyish’ and ‘lethargic’.

3. Lets you experiment with hairstyles
The best thing about long hair is that you can wear it in so many different ways. You can braid it, curl or perm it, tie it into a stylish bun or just let it loose; it looks gorgeous no matter how you keep it.

4. Keeps your neck warm in winter
When you find the cold breeze of winter hitting your neck, just let your long hair down. It serves the purpose as a scarf and will keep your neck warm against the winter. Long hair also keeps your scalp and shoulders warm.

5. You don’t need to wash it every day
Short hair tends to become very oily. As a result, it becomes mandatory to wash it everyday. Long hair, on the other hand, builds up its natural oils over a period of time. Hence, even if you wash your hair once in 2 or 3 days, it’s enough.

Fashion / 7 Tips To Get Rid Of Dandruff Permanently: by NNFems: 10:08am On Jan 27, 2017
Here are a few common reasons and solutions for dandruff

1. Ineffective brushing
Brushing helps the scalp get rid of dead skin cells. Brushing also gets the blood flowing and increases air supply to scalp and hair.

Solution: Invest in a good quality brush or a wide-toothed comb and brush out your hair twice daily.

2. Infrequent shampooing
Not washing your hair enough creates a residue of dead skin cells and oil on your scalp. This leads to dandruff and an itchy scalp.

Solution:
• Use a gentle herbal shampoo and wash your hair every alternate day.
• Apply the conditioner half an inch away from your scalp.
• Make sure you wash it off thoroughly.

3. Stress
Stress affects us physically as well as mentally. Excessive emotional trauma or work-relatedpressure, or even exam time, can cause dandruff and lead to hair loss.

Solution: Whatever the situation, try and keep to your regular routine. Make sure you eat fresh and healthy food at proper times. Keep yourself hydrated.

4. Excessive hair products

Daily Moisture Repair Shampoo
Keep hair looking healthy and shiny
Don’t get taken in with gorgeous, salon-treated hair. More than half of it is digitally manipulated. The rest is overloaded with chemicals and various unhealthy treatments.

Solution: If you don’t want to feel left out and wish to take the plain and boring out of your hair, go for natural hair products and use even those in moderation. Any chemical present in them could worsen your dandruff problem.

5. Improper diet
Our grandparents never seemed to suffer from issues like dandruff. Blame the modern diet for that. Processed items, refined sugar and fried food rich in fats can cause inflammation, which could lead to flaking and dandruff.

Solution:
• Cut down on sugar, salt, and trans saturated fats.
• Chuck that processed diet and welcome home fruits and green leafy vegetables.
• Eaten cooked or raw, these are arich source of antioxidants and yummy minerals including zinc and vitamin B, and omega 3 fatty acids.

6. Tips to get rid of dandruff for dry skin
People with dry skin suffer from dry dandruff more, and it seems to worsen during the cold season.

Solution:
• Oil your hair regularly.
• Use a deep conditioner that moisturises your scalp and keeps the dryness at bay.

7. Tips to get rid of dandruff for oily skin
And then there are those who suffer from dandruff because they have oily skin.

Solution:
• Wash your hair regularly to avoid oil build-up.
• Use home remedies like baking soda masks to soak up excess oil.
Now that you understand the various causes of dandruff and the solutions, you know how to get rid of dandruff permanently. If nothing else works, do try Head & Shoulders Anti-Dandruff Shampoo to get rid of the dandruff.

Fashion / Top 6 Vitamins For Hair Growth by NNFems: 12:05pm On Jan 23, 2017
The truth is that hair loss is a complex process that involves various genetic, hormonal and environmental mechanisms. Just like our skin, the hair follicle is subject to intrinsic and extrinsic aging. Intrinsic factors include our genetic and epigenetic mechanisms, and extrinsic factors include smoking and UV radiation.
Sometimes hair loss is due to a vitamin deficiency too. Luckily, a deficiency can be corrected by adding vitamin-rich foods to your diet or using supplementation. Some vitamins have antioxidant properties that help to fight the extrinsic factors of hair loss, and some vitamins help the body balance hormone levels, another factor that stops hair growth.
Try these vitamins for hair growth if you’re wonder how to thicken hair naturally.
1. Fish Oil
Oils rich in different fatty acid species have been used extensively in both animal and human studies to evaluate the effects on skin and hair health. Omega-3 fats nourish the hair, support hair thickening and reduce inflammation that can lead to hair loss, which is why fish oil benefits hair and is one of the top six vitamins for hair growth.
2. Zinc
Oral zinc compounds have been used for decades for treating disorders such as telogen effluvium and alopecia areata, forms of hair loss, because zinc benefits hair follicle health. Zinc is an essential co-factor for multiple enzymes and is involved with important functional activities in the hair follicle. Zinc is also a potent inhibitor of hair follicle regression, and it accelerates hair follicle recovery. Studies suggest that some alopecia areata patients have zinc deficiency, and oral zinc sulfate therapy serves as an effective treatment.
3. B-Complex Vitamin (Biotin & B5)
Biotin and pantothenic acid (vitamin B5) have been used as alternative treatments for hair loss. Biotin benefits your hair by rebuilding hair shingles that have been damaged from over-shampooing, exposure to the sun, blow-drying and ironing. Vitamin B5 supports the adrenal glands, which helps stimulate hair growth.
4. Vitamin C
With age, the production of free radicals increases and the amount of antioxidative enzymes that defend the body decrease, leading to the damage of cellular structures and the aging of hair. By working as an antioxidant, vitamin C fights oxidative stress that contributes to hair graying and hair loss.
5. Iron
Several studies have examined the relationship between iron deficiency and hair loss, and some suggest that iron deficiency may be related to alopecia areata, androgenetic alopecia, telogen effluvium and diffuse hair loss.
6. Vitamin D
Hair follicles are highly sensitive to hormones, and vitamin D is a hormone that plays an important role in calcium homeostasis, immune regulation and cell growth differentiation. In the scientific world, it’s well-known that alopecia areata is commonly found in patients with vitamin D deficiency, vitamin D-resistant rickets or vitamin D receptor mutation.

This says it all:
Benefits of Organic Shampoo and Conditioner
By: Global Healing Centre

Ingredient quality is the primary difference between organic and conventional hair care products. Think of it as natural vs. synthetic. Organic products gently infuse your hair follicles and skin cells with natural minerals, herbal extracts, and oils. Natural ingredients such as organic tea tree can help address skin conditions such as dandruff and scalp irritation. Beta glucan is another ingredient that helps sooth an irritated scalp.

If you are looking for shampoo that stimulates healthy hair, look for products that contain aloe vera and coconut oil, as they are natural moisturizers. If you need enhanced shine, choose something with organic shea butter.

When you use organic shampoos and conditioners, you’re also helping the environment by letting biodegradable substances go down the drain instead of harsh chemicals.

Fashion / 10 Ways You're Ruining Your Hair But Don't Know It (part 2) By Loni Venti by NNFems: 3:54pm On Jan 20, 2017
The Culprit: Touching Up More Than Just Your Roots
When you DIY your dye job, it's tempting to apply the product all the way down to your ends and not just touch up the new growth. Avoid this temptation! Pulling the color all the way to your ends can dehydrate your hair and result in uneven color (since the length of your hair will end up being colored over and over and over). To make sure you only tint your roots, apply conditioner from the mid-shaft of your strands down to prevent the dye from running, suggests Bodt.

The Culprit: OTT Detoxing
If you love using hairspray or salt spray (who doesn't?!), you know the importance of a good clarifying shampoo to eliminate buildup. But relying on this deep cleanser too often can strip your hair of the good oils it needs to stay healthy and protected, Bodt explains. Try using them once a month and always apply a moisturizing mask after to re-hydrate the squeaky clean strands.

The Culprit: Your Lifetime Blowout Bar Membership
We get it. Blowouts make everything better. But if you're hitting up a jam-packed blowout spot more than once a week, you may be risking excessive heat damage. "Some blowout bars focus a little too much on doing hair quickly," says Ricardo Rojas, a celeb stylist in NYC. This means they might be turning the heat up a too high and not protecting your strands as much as they should. Ask your blow-dry stylist to rough dry your hair instead of starting the blowout when your hair is wet and to keep the dryer on a lower heat setting when possible. And BYOP (bring your own protection)! We love Tresemme Thermal Creations Heat Protection Spray.

The Culprit: Not Protecting Your Hair Poolside
Aside from drying out your hair, chlorine will definitely alter your hue—especially if you have highlighted hair. If you go for a swim, always rinse your hair immediately after, recommends Rojas. Better yet, coat your strands in a hair oil (like Leonor Greyl's) or coconut oil before diving in to create a protective layer that will block out chemicals. (Plus, the heat will help it penetrate and you'll end up with a deep conditioning treatment.)

The Culprit: Nozzle-Free Blow-Drying
Your hair-dryer attachments do more than just direct the air to create a better blow-dry. They also create a bit of distance between your hair and the hot metal prongs at the tip of the dryer, which get super hot and can instantly burn your strands. Never dry without the attachment.

Planning a trip to the salon soon? Make sure to avoid these major mishaps that could sabotage your cut and color.
Fashion / 10 Ways You're Ruining Your Hair But Don't Know It (part 1) By Loni Venti by NNFems: 9:45am On Jan 18, 2017
Everyone knows that endless flatironing, bleaching, and using tons of styling product aren't exactly the best thing for your hair. But ponytails, clarifying shampoos, and repairing masks seem pretty harmless, right? The truth is, there are many healthy-ish or NBD habits that can actually lead to breakage, damage, and excess shedding. Here,10 sneaky little ways we're making our hair hate us (so you can stop doing them ASAP).
The Culprit: Detangling Wet Hair
Wet strands are especially delicate, so ripping through them post-shower with a brush or comb can lead to serious breakage, explains Rachel Bodt, senior colorist at Cutler salon in NYC. Instead, use a wide-tooth comb or a Tangle Teezer (it's equipped with flexible bristles that are gentle enough to use on wet hair) while you're still in the shower and your hair is coated with conditioner. Bonus: Your conditioner will be more equally distributed and your hair will be insanely shiny and soft all over.
The Culprit: Your Perma-Pony (or Bun) Positioning
We're all guilty of wearing the same topknot or low pony for days on end. Unfortunately, repeatedly placing tension on similar areas can result in hair weakening and even excess shedding, says Bodt. Make sure to switch up your style regularly and use snag-free hair ties (these neoprene Emijays are super cute!) or Goody's Spin Pins to secure with the least possible tearing.
The Culprit: Sleeping With Wet Hair
It's so easy to twist freshly shampooed hair in braids or a messy bun, pass out, and wake up to tousled mermaid waves. But if you're dandruff prone, this is a huge mistake. Since flakes can be caused by a fungal infection, resting your wet head against a warm, damp pillowcase for six to eight hours a night will encourage the white stuff to show. Try to shampoo a few hours before bedtime or rough-dry your hair on medium heat until its nearly dry, then hit the hay.
The Culprit: Using Too Many Protein Masks
Protein-packed hair masks are great for repairing bleached and damaged hair. However, your hair needs a balance of moisture and protein. If you load it up with just protein, it can leave your strands parched and brittle, according to Bodt. To ensure you're getting enough nourishment, swap your conditioner for a mask just once a week and alternate between hydrating and repairing treatments.
The Culprit: Only Using UV Protectant Outdoors
Of course it's important to spritz sunscreen on your hair (and everywhere!) when you're hitting the beach or hanging outside all day. But even when you're not getting lots of fresh air, you need to stay protected. Skipping this step can screw up your color because sitting near windows, the light from your computer, and even fluorescent office lighting all add up to color fading. A quick spritz will save you major $$$ at the salon and keep that flawless balayage in tact.

Fashion / 10 Tips To Prevent Hair Loss by NNFems: 1:51pm On Jan 17, 2017
At the back of our shirt, on our comb, on our pillow and wherever we may rest our head, we see signs of hair fall. Resolve them with easy hair care tips.
It’s not rare to find your comb, clogged with your hair strands, everyday. Hair loss can be controlled with the right hair care routine and awareness. Here is what you need to do to keep the hair loss issue at bay:
Tip 1: Coconut oil is the cornerstone for every hair care regime. A regular coconut oil massage will help strengthen hair growth, right from the roots to the tip. It does this with the help of the moisture it contains which protects the hair shaft from any impurities that may cause hair damage.
Tip 2: Hair fall is a sign of lack of vitamins in your body. Amla is vitamin C rich and highinantioxidants which help solve most hair problems. Amla could be applied onto the scalp. You could prepare a small mixture by crushing an amla or using its powder. The crushed amla juice could be added to 2 teaspoons of freshly squeezed lemon. Mix well and apply to the scalp and leave it to dry; then rinse using warm water.
Tip 3: Eggs are great for treating hair loss as they contain proteins and minerals. A hair pack containing egg whites and olive oil works very well for the hair. To prepare this, you’d need the white of one egg and mix in a teaspoon of olive oil. Beat it well to give a paste-like consistency and apply this to the scalp and hair. Keep it on for about 15 to 20 minutes and then rinse it with cool water and a mild shampoo.
Tip 4: Acupressure is known to stimulate hair growth considerably. Balayam, which is an acupressure therapy increases circulation in the scalp and stimulates hair growth. For this pose, you should sit in the padmasana pose and place your finger tips facing each other. Let yourthumbs be away from your fingers and rub the nails of one hand with those of the other hand. Make sure you rub only the broadest part of the nails together.
Tip 5: Other yoga asanas like kapalbhati, balayam and anulomvilomalso help hair growth. These asanascleanse our system and open blockages for proper oxygen and blood flow, which results in nourishing hair follicles.
Tip 6: Your diet plays an essential part in healthy hair growth. Proteins are one of the very important nutrients to stimulate hair growth significantly. They help new hair grow, in place of the old ones. Foods like beans, cheese, milk, nuts, grains, and fish, chicken should be included in your daily diet.
Tip 7: Lack of iron weakens hair, right from the roots, and causes itto fall excessively. Ensure you eat spinach, soybeans, dal, red kidney beans, chicken, meat, eggs and fish for iron intake.
Tip 8: With exposure to pollution, dust, heat and humidity it is imperative that you take steps to protect that mane. Tying the hair up, when outside, and covering the head with a scarf could keep away from such unhealthy exposure, as advised by hair stylist Rod Anker.
Tip 9: As aromatherapist Dr Blossom Kochchar suggests, people suffering from hair fall should apply a mixture of castor and sweet almond oil on the scalp. Apply this with the help of a cotton ball and massage gently with your fingertips.
Tip 10: Regular straightening, colouring, blow drying and perming should be avoided as these commonly cause hair loss. With consistent check on ours diets, some yoga and exercise, as well certain haircare practices, it would be rather easy to fight hair loss and avoid it.

Fashion / How To Make Your Hair Grow Faster by NNFems: 11:58am On Dec 20, 2016
There are no shortcuts to growing luscious, long locks. On average, hair grows about a half an inch per month. Your general health, well-being, and genetic factors affect your rate of hair growth.
You can encourage hair growth by maintaining healthy hair through a good diet and proper hair care. Certain herbs can help make your hair grow faster, too.

Here are the top 6 tips to help your hair grow faster:

1. Eat a healthy diet
2. Use castor oil
3. Massage your scalp
4. Flip your hair upside down
5. Stay stress-free
6. Whip up an egg mask
