Chadwick Boseman, who played Black icons Jackie Robinson and James Brown before finding fame as Black Panther in the Marvel cinematic universe, died on Friday of cancer. He was 43.

Boseman died at his home in the Los Angeles area with his wife and family by his side, his publicist Nicki Fioravante told The Associated Press news agency.

Boseman was diagnosed with colon cancer four years ago, his family said in a statement.

"A true fighter, Chadwick persevered through it all, and brought you many of the films you have come to love so much," his family said.

"From Marshall to Da 5 Bloods, August Wilson's Ma Rainey's Black Bottom and several more - all were filmed during and between countless surgeries and chemotherapy. It was the honor of his career to bring King T'Challa to life in Black Panther."

Boseman had not spoken publicly about his diagnosis. He is survived by his wife and a parent and had no children, Fioravante said.

Born in South Carolina, Boseman graduated from Howard University and had small roles in television before his first star turn in 2013. His striking portrayal of the stoic baseball star Robinson opposite Harrison Ford in 2013′s 42 drew attention in Hollywood and made him a star.


His T'Challa character was first introduced to the blockbuster Marvel movies in 2016′s Captain America: Civil War, and his Wakanda Forever salute reverberated around the world after the release of Black Panther two years ago.

Black Panther, the first major studio superhero movie featuring a predominantly African American cast, went on to become one of the highest-grossing films of the year and was nominated for six Oscars, including best picture.

It won three Academy Awards - in the best original score, best costume design and best production design categories.

The news of Boseman's death prompted an outpouring of grief on social media.

"This is a crushing blow," actor and director Jordan Peele said on Twitter.

"This broke me," said actor and writer Issa Rae.

Captain America actor Chris Evans called Boseman "a true original. He was a deeply committed and constantly curious artist. He had so much amazing work still left to create."

Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden tweeted that Boseman "inspired generations and showed them they can be anything they want - even super heroes".

Boseman's Marvel co-star Mark Ruffalo tweeted: "Brother, you were one of the all time greats and your greatness was only beginning. Lord love ya. Rest in power, King."

Leading US civil rights organisation the NAACP praised Boseman for "showing us how to conquer adversity with grace" and "to walk as a King, without losing the common touch".

Being a last born isn't always rosy as people perceive. Growing up as a last born I was made to do almost all the house chores, from sweeping to washing and then to cooking.

The only time I enjoyed little privilege was when our parents are around. Once they step out my siblings out of (I don't know if it's hate or Jealousy) will turn me to their errand boy.


So this last born got tired also and penned down an open letter to the family.

A Nigerian doctor has narrated how he and his friend who is also a doctor were "charmed" by two female residents of a community they served in.



According to @Maxvayshia, the incident happened in a South-South village. He further disclosed that while the charm worked on his friend and almost made him marry one of the girls, it however didn't work on him.

During youth service, i was charmed by a female native of the land i served in. But the story was bizarre, even for the lady who did. I always wondered what my friend (A Medical Doctor with high tastes then) saw in this pear-shaped dusky lady with dimples like drops of Jupiter..

Quietly worked on getting the reversal cos "her life now depended on it". After 2 weeks, it was done but money was spent. Yes. A week after this, she was taken back to my friend (to give the reversal time to work) and made to narrate the confession in his presence....

My friend in the meantime had been waiting for her to come and clear up her things from his apartment as he was confused as to what so many of her belongings were doing in his room. Now here is the surprise.... She had a "bff" best friend, who i and my friend knew and were friendly with. I noticed she liked me but i was indifferent. She was lively and fun before this whole incident. My friend:s lady was not going to go down alone so she had her join us in this confession. Turned out that this lady charmed me too but to her shock....

It didn't work. She went to her source THREE times and tried it 3ce. Didn't work on me, she observed, despite intensifying it. It made her turn against her source as she believed she was duped. Clashed with her source. I was a bit perplexed and a little amused. Not upset. No....

My guy got over her immediately but till today, even when married to another Medical Doctor, with 2 children, still cannot forget such experience cos he never believed such was possible for him. It is good we can laugh over it now bit that is how a Medical Doctor could....

U are definitely a survivor. I still maintain that over 1million Nigerians have caught the disease and got healed. Majority at home like you. I had the same experience like you. I am ok now but my husband caught it too ans his own was moee severe. His cough is horrible. But thank God he is back to his feet.

Yea I wasn't tested but the symptoms were too glaring to ignore. All my life I haven't fallen ill and lost my sense of smell and taste at the same time, plus the fatigue. Mehn the fatigue was something else.

We are indirectly or I should say unknowingly doing that already. Thus far it has been working cos the rate of fatality is very minimal considering the number of infections (actual infections o, not the figures from NCDC)

Two weeks ago two of my colleagues at the office fell sick and went on sick leave. Days later I went home and ate beans for dinner. The next morning I started having a runny stomach and unusual weakness. Maybe it's dysentery, I thought to myself. At work the fatigue got worse that I can barely stand up. Then I noticed that foods have lost their taste and my sense of smell is gone. Jeez! All of a sudden it dawned on me this might be Covid-19. Immediately I packed up and left office. Getting home I went straight to my room and self isolated. I have almost everything but food in my room so I ensured nobody entered my room unless to drop of my food. I didn't tell them though I might have contracted the Covid-19, my reason was to avoid causing panic in the house. Also when I exhale the air I breath out is hot and kinda burns the nose. I also have intermittent shocks.


To my medications I took the normal anti malaria medicine, lots of fruits, especially sour sop, pineapple and avocado. I took nuts and veggies too and avoided dairy products that could build mucus in my system. I exercise a lot even with the fatigue. I was also heavy on vitamin C (this is aside my "reload men" supplement)

Apart from the tiredness, shock and other little symptoms I listed above, I didn't develop any other issues. Four days later I began to gather my strength again but then I started feeling woozy at times. By this time I have finished my malaria treatment but continued with my supplements and vitamin C.

After a week I was strong enough to go to work. At the office I got to learn that more than half the staff has fallen sick with the same symptoms. Learnt some passed it down to family members but good news is they are recovering fine.

My thought on this is that this Covid-19 is grossly under reported.

Nigeria as a nation cannot handle the containment of this virus. All this face mask and curfew na nonsense.

The greatest scam is the over hyping of this disease. It is not as lethal as the media projects it. In 2017 influencer killed over 1.5 million across the globe and the world didn't go on panic.

I wouldn't say it is our weather that is inhibiting this virus. Our weather is almost the same with Brazil but the virus is ravaging them there. Maybe God is just merciful on us.

Going by the under reporting of this disease in Nigeria, my submission is that the government should lift this curfew and save the economy! These restrictions on movement is not and won't work. Bad as it may sound, the solution is allow the virus to go round and go. Restrictions on movement is just adding to our woes because by and large this virus will certainly go round. It's just a matter of time.

PS: I'm in Anambra State for those of you wondering.
