If you read some legends, you will discover that the people who actually turned out destroying their lives are those who tried to force their lives to fulfil the futures some oracles foretold for them.

Knowing the future can be disastrous in the long run.

Well, she doesn't love you if her reason for marrying you is that you abandon ur beliefs or their absence thereof.

Love transcends all forms of religions, creed, tribal, ethnic and racial divides. True love actually recognises no boundaries whatsoever.

But u can't really blame her because their bible advised them not to be unevenly yoked to unbelievers.

So obviously, you're gonna lose ur girlfriend to her bible. And if that happens, I pray her bible gets to marry her.

When Love is pure and true, nothing else, I repeat, nothing else matters.
Christianity EtcRe: Fellow Defenders Of The Christian Faith Please Come In by nobilis: 8:15am On Apr 16, 2016
And lest I forget, since we have agreed that Inspiration doesn't mean Verbatim dictation and at best, implies the prompting of the mind by the spirit, then it means that the words they wrote are not the words of God but their own words.

For example, if I have a girlfriend who is a poet and I am her inspiration for a lot of her works, it doesn't mean the words she used are my words. No. Those words are entirely her words.

So if we agree that Inspiration doesn't mean dictation, we should agree that the writers wrote their own words. And if we agree to that and the bible also says that man in imperfect and is, at best, trying to be perfect, it also means that the words written in the bible are imperfect, seeing as they are the products of imperfect humans.

And if we agree on the above fact, we also have to agree that it is then wrong to make the bible the standard for didactics. Meaning that the portion of Paul's "Timothian" epistle that suggested otherwise is also in error, which continues the endless cycle of errors contained in the Bible.
Christianity EtcRe: Fellow Defenders Of The Christian Faith Please Come In by nobilis:

Ok.

Are there any similarities between Mark and John, Mark and Luke or Matthew and Mark? Well, thus saying you are simply regurgitating the views of some.

Inspiration does not necessarily confer omniscience thus making one an island independent of fellowship and its benefit!

All Scripture is given by Inspiration, holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Ghost!
Inspiration is not dictation word for word!
Obviously, you're the first Christian I'm coming across who actually realises that inspiration doesn't mean verbatim dictation.

For that, I say, Bravo.

Inspiration doesn't confer omniscience. We agree. But inspiration, by a divine being, for the purpose of teaching his followers and revealing himself and his ways to his followers (even as described by Paul in his epistle to Timothy), has no excuse for not being perfect.
For example, every scientist, although imperfect, meticulously records his findings and discoveries for the exact purpose of instructing his protégés and the generations to come.
So, I keep asking, how come it that the "holy" men of God who wrote under the perfect inspiration of God could come out with imperfect works.

Even the Encyclopedia Brittanica with its many volumes is totally coherent from the letter A to the last entry.
So how come it that the stories of different men of God, inspired by one and the same God could have some discrepancies and in some places, outright antitheses.

As for you asking me if the Gospel of Mark has any resemblance to that of John is accusing me of what I didn't say. John isn't one of the synoptic Gospels. I didn't mention John's gospel
But if you deny that the gospel of Matthew and Luke have no resemblance to that of Mark and to each other, then I'll be convinced that you're deliberately trying to conceal an open truth.

As for the other post where you gave me a link to another argumentative post where Josephus was mentioned, I just want to inform you that that particular 4-5 sentence paragraph about Jesus in Josephus' Antiquities of the Jews was not part of Josephus' original work. That passage was added by St Eusebius of Caesarea. After which he destroyed all other copies of the work that were available and made sure that only his adulterated version survived. The "saint" himself surreptitiously acquiesced to that fact during one of his debates with one of the "pagans" of his day.

And moreover that your link doesn't answer the question of how it is that there is a 10 year gap between the date of Jesus' birth in Matthew and that in Luke.
It doesn't also explain why the descriptions of Judea in the bible do not correspond with the actual land of Judea during the time Jesus was supposed to have lived.

And there is no explanation you can give that can explain how Jesus had more ancestors according to Matthew than according to Luke.

U guys should just stop trying to justify things that are wrong. Abeg. It's just appalling.

Visitor700:
Can you reconcile them instead?
Believe me, I have tried.
But tell me, how do you reconcile the report that Jesus was born during the reign of Herod the Great whose reign was from 37-4 BC (he died in 4BC), as reported by Matthew; and the report that he was born during the Census of Quirinius, Governor of Syria, which census occurred in 6 AD as reported by Luke?
How do you reconcile the gap of 10 years?

How do you reconcile the report that Jesus had, for instance, 200 ancestors according to Matthew and, for instance, 150 ancestors according to Luke and still claim their reports were inspired by one and the same person?

How do you reconcile the fact that the terrain and topography of Judea in the narratives of the gospel are not in line with the correct terrain and topography of Judea at the time Jesus was said to have livedhuh

So tell me, what actually convinces you people that the Gospels are accurate?
Nothing.
They fail to measure up in every way they are being measured.

Again, where did you hear that only the 12 and Mary were in the upper room? Now read:
14 These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.

15 And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples, and said, (the number of names together were about an hundred and twenty,)
Acts 1:14,15

Mark was a disciple too and a close protege of Peter!

You could as well ask when Jehezkel became Ezekiel!

Anyway Marcus-Greek, Mark-English. see here;
http://biblehub.com/interlinear/1_peter/5-13.htm
Okay. Let us assume that the Mark of the gospel and the Marcus of Peter's epistle are the same person.
Let us also assume that Mark was there with the apostles in the upper room when the 120 were counted. And we are assuming because apart from the apostles and a few other women, no other person was mentioned. So he might have been and then again, he might not have been.

But I also wonder how it came to be that Mark's was the first gospel to be written and then formed a template for the other synoptic gospels written by an apostle and a disciple who were much closer to Jesus than Mark was.

But let's get back to the issue of this post.
How does the inspiration of the Holy Spirit lead to the discrepancies between the reports of the times and lives of Jesus and his contemporaries?

Bear in mind that we have now moved from foolishly saying the Bible was "inspired" (even as you Christians interpret that term to mean "dictated word for word" ) to agreeing that the stories in the Bible are the results of oral transmission of the happenings during that period.

At least, that is a step in the right direction.

And what did you mean when you said it is obvious how Matthew and Mark got their stories just after u mentioned Mary being in the upper room with the apostles.

Thirdly, if Mary "kept these things in her heart" as you quoted and told them to the apostles as you hinted, and if Mark was not in the upper room with Mary, how did Mark get his own stories?

And how come it that the person who was not in the upper room was the first to write an account of Jesus' life before the apostles even started writing some 10 years later.

Finally, why make reference to "Marcus my son" Peter's first epistle? When did the name Marcus become the same as the Mark?

I like u, and I like the way u presented your points, but what you forgot to note is that, the whole Gospel scriptural text acknowledged and gave an account of the birth of Jesus according to the inspiration they receive, you are trying to see things from the perspective of mistake but that is where u failed because the Bible is not some literature book it's a book has so many metaphoric saying, I respect your opinion but I will want you to study the Bible as a spiritual and religious text and not some Literature book in so doing you will see the true meanings and messages, by the way what religion do u practice?
Obviously, you are missing the point all in your ploy to avoid seeing the errors in the Bible.
Stop turning things upside down and stop reasoning from your an*us( pardon my language).

Whether the bible is read as a text of literature or as a divinely inspired book doesn't justify the errors that abound.
In fact, because it is divinely inspired by an all-knowing and perfect God means that there should not be any errors.

Even your bible says: "by their fruits you shall know them". And one of the fruits by which the bible should be known is by its historical accuracy. Just as a prophet is known to be a true prophet if his prophecies turn out to be true, one of the most important ways we can test the bible's accuracy is if we match its writings with history and find out that it tallies with historical accounts.

The bible itself says we should test all spirits, in order to find out what to believe in. How else should we test the bible?

Or we should just believe that the bible is divinely inspired because the bible said it was inspired?
If you say so, that means that anybody that comes and says we should believe God sent him, we should just believe him without any testing.

Pathetic again.

Mary, mother of Jesus was with the 12 Apostles and others in the upper room; she was taken home by John the beloved when Jesus was crucified; meaning she was there throughout the 40 post resurrection days.Hence you dont need to look too far as to how Matthew or Mark knew about the birth of Jesus and all that transpired before His birth.

Who else could have been able to say this but Mary herself:

And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.
Luke 2:51
Oga sir, Mark was not one of the 12 apostles (that is, assuming that the Gospels were written by the original apostles, but that is talk for another day).

If I say that you Christians don't even read your bible, it would seem like an insult but everyday it is always evident.

Mark was not one of the 12 apostles. So he was not in the upper room. He was not there during the apparitions of Jesus after his resurrection. He was not there during the Ascension. He wasn't there during the Last supper. He wasn't there during any of the intimate conversations Jesus had with his apostles. Read your bible properly.
But he was the first to write a Gospel and that was about 33-35 years after the death of Jesus.
So don't tell me that crap you're writing up there.

The names of the 12 apostles are as follows:
Simon Peter, Andrew, James and John the sons of Zebedee, Philip, Bartholomew, Thomas, Matthew, James son of Alphaeus, Jude Thaddaeus, Simon the Zealot, Judas Iscariot. Where is Mark's name there?
Go and educate yourself properly.

I'm done talking with you over this issue until you upgrade your understanding of the bible you seem to profess.

Dear nobilis, I think the differences may have arisen out of copyist error or purposeful miscopying of the original text..... Matthew's geneology is from Abraham down to Jesus while that of Luke is from Jesus back to Adam. I think why some ancestors are left out is probably because the original writer of one gospel skipped some of them while the other wrote some of them. But I will like you to write any other discrepancies... Thanks...
Now I can see you're determined to remain blind.
So much for my enthusiasm over someone who I felt was beginning to see the truth.

When I asked you to check for discrepancies, did I ask you to check just the copied versionshuh
And you're telling me it is due to copying errors.
U once said u had access to Matthew's original Aramaic gospel, why not gain access to it and study the genealogy there. And look for Luke's original Greek gospel and study it too.

Or maybe you're too lazy to make deep researches in order to discover the truth. And this laziness is the bane of Christians. And that is why they perish. Even their bible said, My people perish because of lack of knowledge.

As for the genealogy of Jesus, tell me this.
Whether I'm tracing your family tree from your furthest ancestor to you or tracing from you to your furthest ancestor, what would justify the omission of several names either way?
What would also justify the discrepancies in names?

I told you to study the different genealogy accounts and you went and just counted the names there. You didn't bother reading through to see that some names in the two accounts didn't tally.
And u offer this silly explanationhuh

And yet you want me to show you another discrepancy.

Christians sef.

I will show you.
And now you will have 3 discrepancies which no amount of explanation can explain away.

This is about Paul's encounter with Jesus on the way to Damascus
Acts 9:7 And the men who journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice, but seeing no man.
Acts 22:9 And they that were with me saw indeed the light, and were afraid; but they heard not the voice of him that spake to me.

This is my response to you

It seems you are just a Sunday Sunday goer and not a studying Bible type,
Get this fact right, The Bib the doesn't have mistakes had it been it had the people that edited it, sealed and packaged would have amended it, but everything was left that way so that the authenticity of the bible is no affected, Take note The Gospels were inspired by the Holy spirit and written by different writers according to individual account of the events witnessed,
If an even happened in a place where 4 or more people are and u asked them of the event individually their response will be different hope you know, and mind you they are all saying the truth but from different views or scope. Cherish the Bible it is a very wonderful Book that can do wonders in ones life if you assimilate and use its words.
If you have any questions ask me I will be willing to clear your doubts
Hahahahahahahahaha.
Christians deceiving themselves since 30AD.
Interesting.

Now, u say when more than 5 people are at the scene of an event and you ask them, they would give different accounts.

First let me ask:
Among all the gospel writers, just mention the one person that was there at the scene of the birth of Jesus. Bear in mind, that the very first gospel to be written was the gospel of Mark and that was written around 60AD, that is about 60-65 years after the supposed birth of Jesus. That should give you an idea of when Matthew and Luke were written.

Secondly, if you ask any human being who was around when World War I or World War II began, they will give you the exact year with at least a month or two months difference.
If you ask those who were around when the Biafran War started, they will give you the exact year with a difference of years.
If you ask any Greek historian the date for the Trojan War, they will give you the exact dates.
If you ask and Roman historian about the Punic Wars, they will give you the exact dates.
If you ask any body about the year of birth of figures like Socrates, Plato, Ptolemy, Alexander the Great, Xerxes, Julius Caesar, they will give the exact years.

But yet the accounts of the birth of the supposed most important personality on earth are not in concordance and this is the best reasoning you can offer?

This is beyond pathetic!!!!.
And you're busy copying and pasting this your pathetic response for different posts.
SMH.
Maybe you will still copy out that post again in reply to this one.

Please Scholar8200, malvisguy212 and others who know a lot about the Christian faith come in and contribute.............

I have recently discovered a problem which might pose a threat to the authenticity of the Gospels and the authority of the New Testament... I noticed a significant difference between Matthew's gospel and other gospels. In Matthew's gospel, the event of Matthew's calling to discipleship happens before the event of the healing of the demon possessed man but in other gospels, Matthew's calling takes place after the event of healing the demon possessed.... I want to know if anything has been said about it..... Thanks for contributing.........
Very very good.

I'm glad your eyes are opening gradually.

I'm glad you are not being blinded by the silly dogmatic belief in the errors of the bible.

I'm glad you're realising that there are so many discrepancies in the scriptures and that you're realising that there is no way a book said to be inspired by one single person, who is touted as being perfect, all-knowing and all-seeing, can contain so much discrepancies.

I'll point out two more discrepancies:
1. Check the genealogy of Jesus Christ as presented in Matthew and check the genealogy of Jesus Christ as presented in Luke.
Go through all the names one after the other and do a thorough comparison.
Not only will you discover that the two accounts of the genealogy of the same person are grossly dissimilar, but you will also discover that the number of ancestors of Jesus as reported in the two accounts are not even the same.

2. Historically, find out the exact time written as the time for the birth of Jesus in Matthew. And find out the exact time written as the time for the birth of Jesus in Luke. You will find out that these two dates and times are different by about 10 years.

If you need more discrepancies, I'll reel them out for you.
But digest these ones for now.

Iliyande, you made no point at all.
Where did the Bible say Adam and Eve had daughters?
Adam and Eve had only 3 sons: Cain, Abel and Seth.
Even Seth was not born immediately after Abel's death. So for all we know, Seth and Enoch, the first son of Cain, might be age mates.
The bible didn't record the birth of any daughters between the birth of Abel and that of Cain.
And if Adam had any daughters, they were born long after Cain took a wife.
So which daughters are you talking about?
I'll like a biblical quotation to support that claim.

Back to the issue, at hand.
This question is one of the questions that should make human beings who have well-trained minds to reason and finally see things for themselves. But it is so appalling that people will see these obvious errors in the so-called Bible and yet deliberately close their minds to knowledge with silly statements such as: "the word of God should not be doubted". Others try to offer faulty explanations and along the line, they get stuck.

So the word of God should not be doubted even when it's obvious there are glaring mistakes. So in our bid to not doubt the word of God, errors should now be translated into Dogma? That is so shameful and appalling. Even the bible said "my people perish because of lack of knowledge" and obviously christians have been perishing since time immemorial.

OP, that question has no answer that can be found in the bible. Because if you believe that Adam and Eve were the first humans on earth, then Cain's wife must be an illusion.
So if u want to find out who Cain's wife was, you have to abandon your bible and search for answers elsewhere.

Until Christians learn to leave the bible alone, they will always be shrouded in darkness.
